TOM TOM 7.9 installing maps HELP - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

hey guys
i downloaded latest tom tom for my Tilt 2 from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=556316&page=12
Can someone please help me with instructions on how to install maps (step by step).
Thank you

Well you need to put your maps in the root folder of your SD card as they can be very large. You also put your voices and art (car pics) in the root directory (storage card\art).
Any POI's you have are put in the map folder. Mine is USA_and_Canada.
If you are asking how you activate maps that were not purchased from TomTom, so that they work with TomTom that is a totally different question that we dont deal with here.
If you are having a specific issue then post it here and I will try and help you out.

TomTom 5 Maps Install problems

Hi
Please help me before i go completely mad. I cannot get those pesky maps to install. I am installing from the original tomtom 5 cds in the Software + maps of western Europe version. The main software and UK jane voice all install Ok. But when i insert the second cd and select any of the UK maps option the install programjust disapears. I tried doing a Hard reset on my Universal and starting again. Still get nothing. When i run the TT sw it says "no maps found".
Then i stumbled accross this thread read it through and see that there are many more hurdles needed after i get the maps but found a few usefull threads on maps so. I did another hard reset and tried the suggestion of copying the Cab files direct to my SD card and running from there this time I get the message "Installation of Great_Britain_Plus was unscessful" I have tried this on 2 different SD cards a 1 gb and a 4gb both with plenty of space.
I would be really greatful for a step by step guide or a pointer to the correct thread on this or any other site. I am even happy to pay someone who lives in London to install for me. I am going away on a driving holliday in the UK next week and was hoping to use GPS for the trip but am feeling a bit dissapointed about it now.
Many thanks for any helpfull suggestions
Regards
Try putting the SD card in a reader and install the new map to the card reader (you get the location - where to install option during the install process) instead of on the PDA through active sync. Then simply open Tomtom and go to options and select change map and select from the one/s that you have installed through the card reader.
Hope this makes sense, and possible helps
put the maps into your root of storage card , remeber to keep the orginal names of foldesr. it looks like this in my case..
\storage card\great_britain-map.v5.66
you also have CurrentMap.dat file put in the TomTom folder in My Documents and creat empty TomTom folder in storage card. voices should be put it Voices folder of the storage card .
cheers, cudo
hope it helps ..
get the lastest update from the tomtom website for the universal otherwise youll have trouble getting it to work the isnt set to write protect is it
TomTom 5 latest version is 5.21. That said, the map installation software is horrible.
The only way to install the maps is to specify to a memory card. Do not use the install to Pocket PC or Folder. Select Other and use a memory card.
It goes very slowly ... so have some patience, get some coffee/tea/snacks while you do this.
I can't believe that this is a commercial software. It just not workable in this manner.

tom tom

hi all.
i have got orbit with new wm6(B&B 3.7 eng.)

ps:for the first one it worked after that i want to install german speed camera
but i totally screwed it up.
i installed twice the german map but it didn't work
Bluetooth browsing!
Disable Bluetooth Browsing, hard reset and it should work. If not, try moving the map folder inside My Documents on your SD card.

How to get tomtom back?

I flashed B&B 4 to my german O2 Orbit and everything works great except tom tom is not installed (obviously) I noticed that the tom tom files are still installed on the memory card but I can't find a way to actually get it up and running. Any help appreciated
Hi, if you got an DVD/CD from tomtom you need to remove all the tomtom files from your SD card and reinstall it from the DVD/CD on you phone, this worked for me and tomtom 6 is working again, when you don't have the DVD/CD i really don't know what you need to do.
Fill
Not sure
I have the cd\dvd but it only has voices, maps and POI's. Not the program itself. Can someone with an O2 orbit confim how tomtom is restored after going B&B 4??

Yes, no problem. You don't have to do anything.

On your DVD is a program called TT Home. When installed on your PC, copying the maps to the phone is quite easy. Don't need to worry about the location, TT Home knows where to put the files.
You may also download an original image from o2online.de and flash it to your device. You will find ttn.cab in your windows folder. Install it and you have your original tomtom back.

How to install TomTom Navigator on storage card

Hi All,
Anyone know how to install Tomtom Navigator on Storage card?
Similar question applies to other CABs I have I would like to know for those which do not offer choice of destination installation, how to install either alter tha cab to give the choice or other solution?
Please can you help?
I asked similar question earlier but only answer I had was to use WINCE CAB Manager which I don't know how to change...
Thanks
Whenever I install Navigator it gives me the choice of storage card or device. Do you not get those choices? And it still installs a lot of files to the device even though I chose storage card, I think it's unavoidable.
Can you send me a link of TomTom Navigation software so I would discover out and tell you ?
The way I did it was to install TomTom onto the devices internal memory as normal then move the program files directory etc over. Point the shortcuts into the correct exe location and it all works perfectly fine. Even after flashing the device several times since I'm as yet to reinstall it as I don't need to!

Help With TomTom

Right so i have my Touch HD and i have installed TomTom 7 following instructions:

Can't help you with the freeware (aside from Google Maps, and the missus reading the instructions out loud, or maybe a map!)
To get TTN7 working (this is legally):
Go to this thread to get the link to 7.915 which works on the Touch HD.
In case you haven't installed stuff before:
Connect your Touch HD via ActiveSync
Copy the cab file to your touch (anywhere, I keep cabs I'm gonna install in a folder on microSD card)
On your HD click the cab to open and follow the instructions. I installed to the microSD card and it works fine, but people on here have said it works installed on the device too - whatever floats your boat)
Try running TomTom to check it works (you'll get a warning about having no maps, but it should give you the option to download a mall city map. I got the London map which only took a few seconds to download).
I'd then unplug the HD for the moment. Download the latest version of TTHome (this always give the latest version)
Before connecting your Touch you have to doctor TTHome to recognise the HD. Thanks to Noiz for helping me out here:
Go to C:\Program Files\TomTom HOME 2\xul\chrome and paste this over the contents.
Now you can plug your HD into your PC and TTHome will recognise it.
Finally in TomTom Home or the website buy the maps you want (the USA maps are still down for TTN7 last time I checked, but you can get full Europe, and lots of others still, and traffic and speed camera subscriptions).
Once you've bought them they'll appear in TTHome. It shouldn't (after the Noiz fix) say the map isn't compatible, but it won't install it. It should let you download it, it will go to the download directory (you can set that in TTHome options). Simply go there, extract the zip file to the root of your storage card with a folder the same name as the zip file. Extract the cab file that begins activation in the same folder.
You can now download new cars, voices, mapshare updates, speed camera subscriptions.
Sorry if I've written any of this wrong, in front of a different machine with none of this installed so doing it all from memory and glancing at bookmarked pages.
(None of this work is my doing, I have just got some hints from people on the way and combined it onto one post). All thanks to them!

so i have got to the part where i have added my free map, but i have a quick question before i continue - can i move the maps i have downloaded to a new memory card or will i have to redownload / buy them?
as im using a 512mb card at moment as mine didnt arrive with its 8gb card
you should be OK using a different card, because TomTom uses Device ID (switching Phones wouldn't work) not Card ID
anyone know differently?
okay thank you for the help - i just wanted to make sure before i go any further
