Hi, this is uploaded from my phone, so I'll be brief.
I bought an unlock code for my hero from, sigh, ebay.. and it (suprise suprise) doesn't work. I have contacted the seller and he says that I need to be running a stock rom (can remember off the top of my head). So, my question is - should I downgrade my villinrom3.3 with the latesr amon ra recovery image. And how hard will it be to get ir all back? I assume the rom he wants me to flash is quite new, so flashrec wont work ?
Thanks
I had the same problem. What I've done is: 1.nandroid backup 2. flashed sensehero 1.5 Rom (u don't lose recovery by flashing that) 3. Used my unlock code 4. Restored my nandroid backup. Done.

I'm not aware of any 2.1 ROM (Like Villain3.3 or BeHero 1.3.2) that will let you unlock, since they were all based on the Eris, which doesn't have a SIM.
So, flash SenseHero 1.5 and you should be fine. (as mentioned above)
I am restoring Kimera1.5, (backed up as I know 1.5 is quite important), should this work? Or will I need SenseHero?
Thanks for your help so far =D
Ok, just unlocked it... I have no signal though (emergancy calls only). I have heard I need to chage the settings somewhere, I have gone into Home>menu>settings>Wireless Controls>Mobile Network Settings>Network Operators> And then, no matter what I choose, "Your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network"... ??? I am currently trying to use a O2-UK SIM card, and you would have thought O2-UK is the most appropriate network provider to choose, this , however, doesn't work..
Thanks
Ok, just stuck a t-mobile sim in, and it seems to work. Is it just my O2 sim that is dodgey? It is just a free one that I have received in thepost - so it doesn't matter.
Do all (o2/vigin/tesco/orange/t-mobile/ect) work on the hero, or is it only t-mobile/orange?
Thanks again
Try to restore a backup first (2.1 will be good) if no success try different sim
All sims should work, I'm using 3UK.

Expiry date? The sim is like 2 years old So that's probably the problem.

On a side note, Now that I am free, and now bound to any network; what network offers good:customer care, value fo rmoney, 1 month contract/payg, £10.
I am thinking of Virgin; unlimted texts, 200 mins... It is nice to have a data plan though...
Ideas? ALSO I just rang orange to tell them what a terrible service they offer and I am leaving unless they can offer virgin's deal.. They said they will ring me back
EDIT: Ok, they rang me back - and I can't haggle for any extra airtime/whatever... :L Looks like I'll be moving to Virgin.
If pay as you go data plan then 3. They got 1 month unlimited internet for fiver (2Gb fair usages policy)

Sounds pretty good, i used to be with 3 (ages ago) and i found thrm to be terrible.. Are they better now? Are they as good (value/customer care) as, say, o2?
Cheers.
Well, I'm with them for about a year now and I have no complaints. They have improved coverage a lot in last couple of years. Check their website for reference.

Hey Guys,
Long time peruser first time poster. Heres the deal, got a HTC-S621 (on 8/15/08) with the Kavana_080408 ROM. Worked for a good while (until 8/23/08) until I used it on talkshoe.com then it simply stopped working. I can not receive a signal or on the rare occasion I do get reception, the phone can not communicate (no text, or calling service... Not even basic network communications)
but:
When I take the SIM out and put it in my old phone, the old phone worked.
When I use my wife's sim card from an alternate carrier, the S621 works.
The S621 does NOT work with SIM cards from T-Mobile.
I flashed the ROM at least 5 times (different ROMs) since the problem occurred, and the S621 still can not pick up the carrier signal.
so I'm deducing:
The radio is fine since alternate carrier sims work.
the sim is fine since it (and the recent prepaid sim i purchased) work in my previous phone.
there must be a registry entry or app that should resolve this issue.
Thanks in advanced for your helpful replies.
Reflash to 6.0 and see if the problem persists....if yes, return the phone with 6.0 on it and get a new one.

After the problem occurred, I installed:
The official Rogers WM6 rom
The official HTC Brightpoint rom
The official T-Mobile Dash rom
and the originally installed 080408 Kavan rom
of which an alternate carrier sim worked. The question still remains, "why do the T-Mobile sims not work". I have more affinity for the phone then I have for T-Mobile. Switching would be cheaper then buying a new phone but I would rather try to solve this issue.
Does anyone know how to force radio acceptance from the phone to the tower?
Maybe just maybe your sim is damaged?

Oh.. Your going to love this part of the tale.
Like I mentioned before, swapping out my sim for my wife's sim makes the phone functional. So of course I can't just take her sim, so we decided to go to the T-mobile store after church this past Sunday.
SO. I walked in and store and DEMOED the whole tragedy in front of the store rep. And I purchase a new sim for 20 bucks.
Put it in... booted up.... BUBKISS!
Then the Rep. thought the new sim was faulty or something so he got another new sim.
Same results.
Got my wife's sim.... it worked.
So I went home deflated and then I thought hey... it could be a lock on my number and the IMEI number, so I went back to the store a purchased ANOTHER sim. A pre-paid sim. 7 bucks.
El' NUMERO CERO!
But my wife's sim stinking works! Uhg!
So... Recap...
3 Sim changes
T-mobile: -3 Other Carrier: 1
Ok... to be fair... as stated above, my T-Mobile sim worked for a week and some days before problems arose.
hmmm weird.
Here's an idea, give your Dash to your wife?

Oh we wise guy...Why I aughta...
A friend of mine thinks it might be the antenna specifically the GPRS but then I trying to figure out if thats the case, why does my wife's sim work? why would the antenna presumably not work at 850mhz and olny work at 1900mhz and why doesn't the phone tell the t-mobile tower that? All assumption though.
Installed Dash WM5 image and it didn't help. Does anyone know where the antenna is located?

hmm.. so its not likely that it can be jarred loose or is segmented physically for the individual frequencies.
Guess I'll get a sim from my wife's carrier.

That might work if i bought the phone. It was a gift from my brother... likely from a pawn shop or off of ebay.
Which leads you back to my suggestion
I'm going to switch carriers (via a prepaid sim) for a month then merge with my wife's plan if it lasts the trial.

No but I would save it just in case your current ever goes bad (happened to me a couple weeks ago with year old sim). It comes wit every phone.
I was going to use the new one because my old one is 9 years old but it doesn't have any of the vpn info on it so I just stuck with my old one..
Although I did read around here somewhere that a tech told someone that we should be using the new ones with the TM on the chip side?

can anyone elaborate on this? What does the new card have that the old one doesn't?
Please take notice that older SIM cards (and phones) had 8 metallic contacts for the SIM and the new SIM cards (and phones) have 6 metallic contacts.
Older "2G" sims only have the ability to register with the network a certain number of times. Once that registration number is reached "90,000" the SIM card dies and must be replaced. This can occur within six months for smartphones.
This means no future registrations, lost contact information, and no Voice/Data/Text Messaging capabilities.
Interesting.. I didn't know it came with a new SIM card. I popped in my old one when my G2 arrived. Opened my manual and the new SIM is in there.. Put that in and I have no service or data connection.

It only took a few seconds to change the SIM with the CSR and then u just swap. Was super painless...
a sim card doesn't generally give you better service or anything. sheesh. its just an identifier so tmobile could know who's who and stuff.
I want to get my son a myTouch 3g slide. We are on a no contract plan and I want to buy one outright from Craig's List. I found one for $80 and they say they upgraded to 2.2 and now the sim isn't recognized. Is this an easy fix? Should I even consider it?
It might be a win... maybe it's just their sim card? ask them if it was working before! you can buy it and follow this guide here to ROOT it.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1025336
after that try flashing to a 2.1 ROM and see if the SIM will work now if not you can always flash back to the official 2.2.1 and stick your sim in it, go to a t mobile store, say it isn't working and they might just exchange it! assuming it has not been opened up, dropped in water etc.
That's what I thought I asked if airplane mode was checked and they said no and that they tried several diff Sims and it still didn't work. I upgraded my daughters slide to 2.2 without any problems. I just wonder why this guy didn't go to TMO themselves. Just a bit leary. Thanks for the links.

Hi there
i own a galaxy S3 TMobile version for 2 months now.
I recently update on last rom and since then i am getting the following error.
Sim card removed. Replace the sim with a valid sim and restart/reboot the phone.
I am not really sure if i wrote the message exactly as it appears but thats the meaning of it.
I have unlocked the phone to use it on Greece.
I have the same sim on it, since the beggining.
I didnt had the problem before the update. And for sure the problem poped up some days after the update.
When i see that msg the most of the times (if not always) data is enabled.
I should also say that when i see that msg the phone is just sitting untouched. Phone has never dropped or anything like that.
For sure its annoying.
When i restart phone sim is working perfectly...... ..
Has anyone heared about it? Anyone who faces the same prolem and found a solution?
I tried to google it ut i came up with no answers...
Any help is welcome.
Thank you in advance
have u tried a different SIM yet?

I had the same kind of issue on my previous phone. However, there is no data on my phone that I had to reboot my phone a few times to establish data connection. Secondly, sometime I missed called. Replacing SIM card may not help either. A few people had reported the same kind of issue on T-Mobile Support site.

I tthought I was the only one plagued by this issue..
I have this same issue. It usually happens whenever I lose network coverage......it happens repeatedly.. This issue started happening after I updated to jelly bean...ICS had no problems..
I have changed my sim 3 times, installed several touch wiz custom ROMs, changed my base bands and kernel...The issue remains prevalent after all these..
The only way I have been able to resolve this issue is by switching to an AOSP ROM like cm10 or paranoid android rom
I hope a fix for this issue is found soon cos i am tired of restarting my phone everytime i lose network coverage
I have attached a screenshot showing this
replacement sim ractified the problem

I had the same problem the other day when I was driving home from work. I think it happened when I went from 4G to 2G coverage. And also, when I'm in 2G coverage, signal fades out completely and comes back on 10 secs or so later. I went to Tmobile and replaced my sim with a new one and I had no problem of such ever since. .. at least so far so good.

First & foremost,
How did you "unlock" your phone? Did you mess with the NV data??
Or were you a good boy & had T-Mobile do it for you?
It sort of sounds like T-Mobile may have disabled your SIM card altogether....which may happen if you screwed around with the NV data.
If it was properly unlocked by T-Mobile you should be able to stick whatever SIM card in there now. Easy to test, go down the street to your nearest Greek mobile telecom store & ask if you can test a prepaid SIM card in your phone. Assuming the GSM networks are to some degree similar to the US T-Mobile networks, you should even be completely in good shape using local GSM service.
*IF* you get the same issues with the local SIM card....well screw it then. Go protest in the streets about the austerity measures in effect at the moment. Or just be a lazy Greek bastard & demand 14 months salary paid, require retirement at age 50 and lastly *NEVER* pay property tax on anything.

I even tried a factory reset
Nothing worked so far.
Has anyone figured out why it's doing this? Is it hardware related? software related?

In the same boat as you...I thought i was the only one..
on wind's sgh-t999v Galaxy SIII ... unlocked it like you did, and I'm getting a no sim card, restart required error, get it about every 8 hours or so..
i ported my number over too, but it says under "my phone number" in settings.. has a completely different number than what I'm currently using.. not sure if that has any effect..
tried restoring to factory settings too.. nothing seems to work...
if anyone has any info that would be much appreciated...
From the cold boot and after the error message goes away, does your phone has data connection?
I got the same error message on my previous phone. However, it would not establish the data connection.

mine doesn't do that, I have a data connection almost instantly where I have a signal
the error goes away after a reboot, but the error stalks you, and you never know when it's going to strike..
sometimes when it's in my pocket waiting for a call, while i'm driving with a headset on, at night while i'm asleep
for me, it isn't consistent, but it eventually happens..
I intend on taking it to the repair center for wind next week once I get back home (with the family for the holidays)
I don't think this issue has anything to do with if the NV data was messed with because my husband and I have the same phone purchased the same day 6 months ago. We both get the same error message and it's does not always happen at the same time so I am not sure it has anything to do with the network either. When it happens to him, he tells me it's happening but it does not happen to me. I googled the error because it is annoying. I will guess now that this issue has to do with the Gallaxy s3 and the update to the firmware. I can't wait for a better update.

Hi again
Since I know that there are a lot of people facing the same problem I thought it would be nice to give the solution on this kind of problem.
It seems that when you update via kies (of course on stock roms) something goes wrong. Recently I install the latest rom using odin and except that I found so many new things that I couldn't see before I also had no sim problem again.
So I am pretty sure that this kind of problem appears due to the kies updates. And from what I saw there where more.
If anyone else try the same please let me us know if it worked.
Good luck to u 2.
Btw yes I had that problem when the data signal was almost 0... Maybe 0.... Only then!

First of all I want to ensure you that has nothing to do with the way I unlocked the phone.
Second nv data is untouched.
3rd the problem came on after an update.
As I said after a clear fresh install without ba kups etc, starting from 0 the phone works great again and also there are options settings etc that I couldn't see before. Crazy but real. If anyone else do the same thing and make a fresh install with the latest rom he will agree with that.
So... As you said we make good parties and have nice womens... But how you will caption those moments those special (girls) moments without a nice camera (phone) ?

For those on the SGH-t999v version of the phone... the reason you are getting this "no sim error" is because of the firmware update to 4.1.1. I've sent my phone in for repairs and the best answer they could give to me was that there's an issue with the current jellybean.. not sure about the SGH-t999 standard versions though...
Unfortunately, I've had to revert back to ice cream ....and guess I have to wait till Lime Pie (OS 5) comes out...
The issue is not the NV data as I have used that method to unlock my phone as well.
Thank you for your replies. I'm relieved to know that it is not the nvdata menu that caused this problem.
I sent my phone in twice now and I've recieved it back for the second time today.
The first time resulted in further Sim card error messages. I'm keeping my fingers crossed in hopes that it does not appear again.
If op would be so kind to lead me to the right direction as to how to use Odin, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Hey everybody, I´ve been having more problems than anticipated with my Dinc2. Basically what happened was this:
I had a phone that I bought new, unlocked, and used on the GSM network this past summer while abroad. (Verizon). However, I had dropped it to the point where the audio jack ceased to work and thus had to take it back in November for a replacement under the Best Buy warranty.
Now, in November I jailbroke the phone again, and I still have the code that I used to do it. Or at least I think I did it successfully, because I never checked with a real SIM card. After (possibly) getting rid of the SIM lock, I rooted, got S-off and flashed the radio following the instructions here, which had been working great for the past few months in the US (CDMA). Now I´m running MIUI on Android 2.3.5 and the baseband version is 20.27W.30.0811U_1.09.01.0622 and a kernel of 2.6.35.14.
Now I´m abroad again, working in Spain for the next several months. My first issue occured when I arrived and tried to use an SD card. Guess what! It would appear there´s a sim card lock. It doesn´t recognize sim cards when they are inserted, nor does the unlock code I got back in November unlock the phone.
It gets better.
The phone doesn´t show an IMEI number, nor is there an IMEI number on the sticker on the back of the phone-just a Serial Number and an MEID. Also, since it was a replacement phone under warranty it was probably a refurb, and I don´t have any other packaging on which the IMEI could appear. As a result I have no friggin´ clue how to get the lock off and allow me to use the 3g network as before.
Should I try flashing the stock rom and radio, or just the stock RUU, and see if I can get the unlock code to work?
Or is it hopeless and in that case should I give up and buy a ****ty candy bar phone?
Thanks in advance!

I had a similar scenario while I went to NZ. I thought I unlocked my phone prior to leaving, but didn't. I called verizon tech support and got a new code, plugged into the settings and then I was able to insert the prepaid SIM I bought. Here is the non 1-800 number for you to call (I had to get my brother-in-law to call them and get a non 1800 number because it is not listed on their website): 1-908-559-4899.
Try that and hopefully they can get you a new code to use. Good luck.

I just talked to Tech support today and got an unlock code... it´s not working however. I´ve put in a card, and it doesn´t show up. When I go to the SIM Lock under Options>Security, it says the code I enter is incorrect. Also, the phone shows no signal. Could it be that I just flashed a bad radio that supported CDMA and not GSM? Or is it something with MIUI? I was pretty certain that both the radio and the ROM were fine for GSM networks...

I got that to work. Thank you! I later installed CM7 to try it out and surprisingly enough that didn´t work.
AOKP did for me-although they are both confirmed to be working with GSM? Anyway, I realized I never flashed gapps with the AOKP, so I tried to flash with the latest version (no coffee, late night) and ended up tweaking the install. Anyway, I re-flashed and I have to say that this setup (AOKP with Nova) is the slickest setup I´ve ever used! It´s been an intense couple days flashing ROM´s, reading about all the stuff that kept popping up, but then end result is so worth it!
Anyway, I´m off to go caress my telephone...oh yes.
