Android 2.1 animations on Hero ? - Hero, G2 Touch Android Development

Hi guys... I really like the standard 2.1 animations (fade in, fade out) that the nexus one has and every other AOSP build also.
But how can we enable them on our Hero ? I mean... the 2.1 leak is DAMN fast and smooth, it should not be a performance problem. Even a HTC Touch Pro 2, which is a WM device can run an Android 2.1 with smooth animations (source http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/11/...new-lease-of-android-life-loves-it-vide/?s=t5) ...
The other think... the standard 1.5 builds had this awesome fancy rotation animation which you could enable with the Spare Parts app... but for an unknown reason they don't work on any 2.1 build ??? I really liked this too...
I hope that someone can give me a proper answer!

omg.. can't believe that nobody is interested in this!!!

Thats what i was wondering too, how hard is it to port the nexus rom onto the HTC Hero?

Do you really like fancy rotation animation? Look at the iphone thats quick and realy beautiful!
Maybe Spare Parts can change fade in, fade out it in near future.

There must be even a way without spare parts.. it us just an app that enables some settings.
Maybe we can enable animations manually somehow ??? I know on WM there is a registry... but dunno how Android works!

you can flash different animations by changing the Anim folder in framework-res.apk im using blur animations on villainrom 3.3 by doing this

bonesy, can you detail how you did it?

It's easy just grab the res/anims folder from within the framework-res.apk of a 2.1 Rom to do that extract the anims folder using a live archiver like winrar or izarc, copy it into the framework-res.apk pulled from your desired hero Rom via adb or extracting the Rom update.zip, the framework-res.apk is in the following directory system/framework, and once it is copied into the framework-res.apk either adb push it back to your device or add it to a blank update.zip, ammend the update-script and sign it using a auto-signer script then flash it on your device.

Let me know which 2.1 Rom animations you want and which Rom you are currently using and I will make you a update_signed.zip to flash to your device

Cool! Thanks for the informations. I will try myself when I have time, but can you make animations (fade in/fade out like on the iphone if it's available, dunno the different animations that are available) for VanillainROM 3.4 (i'm using 3.3 but it's basically the same).

Okay I tried myself extracting the anim folder from a Nexus One ROM and replace it with the anim of my ROM's framework-res.apk but it didn't work...

I already know about needing to edit init.rc, to put customize folder in system and to copy htc apps and libs but i can't get it working, how can i do?
Well, you'll definitely need the htc framework / res in /system/framework
along with Rosie, and the associated widgets in /system/app

I have to edit framework-res too, right?
No, although you need com.htc.resources.apk.
Ok, i tried to do this but there are some problems
1. There aren't sense colors (for example highlight color is android's original orange)
2. There aren't sense images
3. Notify bar is white and not black
4. Rosie Home FC continuously
How can i fix?
1: copy over the framework from /system/framework from another rom
2: copy over the htc-specific apps from /system/app (you definitely need rosie.apk and htcaddprogramwidget.apk, amongst others)

1. Already tried, stuck on bootscreen
2. Copied all htc apps
Ideas?
Just download Villain, and copy every apk starting with HTC from system/app.
You could try copying the framework too, but I've had a lot of problems porting it over 100% working vanilla builds. Try copying the framework over, but I can't guarantee it'll even boot. I think Villain is pushing it.. there are so many Sense apps and widgets that it seems sluggish.
Adwinp had it just right with his [email protected] roms. Perfect balance of Sense and no-sense. Very quick, but looked like sense.

I tried taking sense from villain and from hero/espresso hybrid:
- With villain if i copy the framework i can't get the phone to boot, if i don't copy the framework the rom starts but rosie give continuosly FC
- With espresso hybrid without copying the framework the rom doesn't recognize rosie as home, if i copy framework phone doesn't boot
Solutions?
Well
I can safely say it's being worked on . And Even more so that it is possible.
I currently have a working build based on Espresso Rosie with only a few problems in HTC widgets to iron out.
I can't promise when it'll get released (if at all) on my current schedule, but if I find the time to finish it for my personal needs. (I can't currently afford the time to keep flashing from my stock ROM to the Vanilla 2.1 I'm building it on).
I'm sure someone will beat me to a working build, but depending on how this next week goes with my real work, I may or may not have the time to finish it.
Just tried merging villain's framework-res with my rom's one, the phone remains on bootscreen

Out of interest - are you trying to re-sign the framework-res? Re-signing it with test keys will force it to hang on the boot screen.
I believe the launcher is the same... correct me if I'm wrong.

Yeah...
I resigned it with stericson's method
So... we can't modify graphics in that res package? I wanted to customize it
Sorry for the little bit of thread hijacking here.
I too am interested in porting Sense, but to a Samsung device that's currently not supported in this forums - the Galaxy Spica (i5700).
I have tried to copy all HTC apps but the phone did not recognize them. For example, if I push all apps to /system/app and press the home button, the default home comes out and not sense (no prompt either).
Every other app FCs (for example com.htc.music or com.htc.browser).
Copying the HTC framework to the phone would result in eternal bootscreen.
Copying all the libs to the phone would result in hang

[MOD][Froyo JP6, JPA Repository] Reboot, Recovery, Download on Shutdown menu

I take credit for nothing here except adapting it for rom im currently running (Docs JP6 v1).
It should work for any deodexed unthemed jp6 (used Docs update.zip script to remove theme as he uses some heavily modified stuff in his words 'optimised' framework that renders it useless for unpacking, repacking) so framework is stock except battery and i did it only to test if it will pack properly.
IMO this should be on every custom rom from now on.
Credits: lol almost everyone but ill try to be fair.
DocRambone- (actually requested this few days back but you prolly too busy lol) most prolific and my favorite moder here just hope he stays modest. wish you would do theme templates with your releases kinda like @enomther from Nexus does since you like tinkering with frameworks so much.
Tayutama- for bringing it to i9000 (M,T) although i think you credited wrong guy for this as well as being up there with Doc (wish you only released untehemed rom and theme as add-on).
LOL it seems that im paying homage and making requests at the same time
untermensch- who brought it to galaxy S (vibrant guy) for wonderfull instructions HERE
true credit of this mod concept is lost in history as most others have it for ages
sztupy- for being my favourite Hungarian
RyanZa- for being part of every important discussion
Supercurio-for always being open to suggestions no matter how popular you get
Kalpik- for popularizing battery mod and is gaining momentum in rom cooking fast
Without you guys this forum would be dead.
That is not to say that other less known guys are any less important so big credit for all rest.
feel free to make any changes and improvements on this and really hope it becomes standard for cooked roms.
install with CWM or rename update.zip and use 2e recovery or unzip and manually copy to system/framework:
framework-res.apk
framework.jar
android.policy.jar
your phone dies. NMF i tested it on mine

USEFUL feature for compulsive flashers. I remember your request on the doc's post and did +1 to it. Can I apply this on the Doc's ROM (themed)?
you will lose theme as i have no idea of the extent the doc customized framework folder and his framework-res does no compile properly and he does not provide template with latest changes (see my request above).
thats why i added circle battery so now you can edit the rest without having to use apk manager, you can use winrar or winzip since its only pictures now.

Alright - will give it a shot and let you know. Thanks!
OK tried it and:
Recovery -> Works
Reboot -> Works
Download mode -> Works
I get the feeling its slower shutting down/booting up though - not sure if its related.
If I wanted the doc's battery, can I copy it over to your theme? Can you point me what needs to change?
Would be good if you can post this on the doc's thread so maybe he will port it into his ROM

not my theme. default froyo jp6 theme with circle battery mod.
first boot slow due to generic lockscreen (another credit to doc for providing deodexed jp6 lockscreen mod android.policy.jar as my base)
its not slower or faster its the proper slow shutdown. the shutdown should be slow so the rom has time to save info. any other way is just like yanking the battery out with big possibility of data corruption.
heres a quick Docs themed framework-res.apk and androdena themed twframework-res.apk i think they go good together.
framework-res.apk is optimised .
just replace them in original zip script and update via CWM or manually copy via root to system/framework
hope doc does not take offense but i posted separately to gain visibility so i can get my dream of standardizing this thing and it should not be turned into repository either). i just happen to like this rom and use it so thats why it was made in docs jp6, if i was on tayutama lol than i would not have to do it.
I would like this in a JPA version if possible.

If you can supply me with framework.jar, framework-res.apk and android.policy.jar i can make it for JPA but they need to be deodexed meaning there can't be any .odex files.
Btw reason i credited designgears is because i took it from his rom
But i'm working on another version that puts the 3 options into a little window by itself so you will have a button saying "Reboot" and pressing on that will bring another window with those 3 options to reboot, recovery and download in them.
Will also see about getting Hot Reboot to work.
Hot Reboot is a reboot that doesn't reboot the phone meaning it kills all services and then starts those up that are needed when you boot the phone... It's faster then a normal reboot
Also have been in the plan to make a unthemed version of my rom but been thinking that if i do that there won't really be a reason to release a rom as it will pretty much be like Doc's that you can just apply a theme to it since there won't be much of a difference between his and mine if i release unthemed... Well other then i implement some stuff before he does ^^
@Tayutama : can you please make for JPA

Reg. Hot Reboot - does adb reboot recovery use Hot Reboot? It is pretty fast.

Hot reboot would be amazing provided it does not kill my phone.
Trust me theres plenty of things to differentiate you guys. you just have different styles and priorities but its the theme flexibility that gives us users a way to differentiate ourselves not just from each other but from day to day moods and activities.
anyways just got Doc on board for theme templates current with the changes in latest rom releases for easy themeing. Are you in. it would really simplify making themes compatible with latest roms.
right now we barely have themes section for fingers of one hand which is sad.
keep up the good work.

First off sorry it's Hot Restart not Hot Reboot
Hot Restart: a new option ('hot restart') has been added that will allow you to respawn android's system server process, thereby starting with a "clean system" w/o actually rebooting the device
My current problem is getting that Window to work...
Reason is those pictures you linked to are on Sense frameworks so it takes abit to look through it and figure it out.
Also about the theme templates and that... PM me about it and we can talk.
Working great on Doc_Kalpik Froyo JP6/JPM V5.1.
Hope this becomes standard on cooked roms. Much more convenient.
Will This work on my captivate running cognition UCJI6 (2.2 2.6.32.9 kernel) and it cannot manually get into downloadload mode. Only with ADB!!
Great idea!
How about for those who want to use the AOSP lockscreen?
It also depends on android.policy.jar

How to cook an existing theme into into my roms!

Using android kitchen seems pretty limited! Want to theme my work but frustrated a little need advice! Can i just swap some files framework, res or something!
sent from my personal cooked eVoKINGS SUPERSONIC v1.1
in my experiance ... yes you can. I ooften take themes and swap parts of them into roms doing this. you may find some of the files in com.htc.resources too. The trick is to decomile the reamework/resources files replace the .png files you want and then recompile them and put them into your rom. It shoudlnt be to hard to use an exsiting them to do this unless your rom has special ui elements (ie the switch bar in the notification drop down i still cant figure out how to get correct)
I tried swapping frameworks,Res files most that worked swapped phone dialer image with gimp! Yeah! Any file folders that i can swap between roms let me know! eVoKINGS Supersonic v1.1 is my first rom that i am working on AOSP 2.2.1 posted it yesterday! Thanks for the response!

[Q] Sense and window animations.

Hi everyone. Basically im trying to enable the standard android zoom/slide etc.
window animations. Not the fancy fly/bounce etc. custom window animations.
I know it must just be a simple swapping of a file or two to enable it.
Or maybe a simple code tweak.
Im only asking this again because I have had and seen with my own eyes,
these animations working when I flashed a framework a long time ago and
I cant remember what I changed to make it work, ive swapped over my
anim folder with the anim folder from gingerbread but I still have no animations.
If anyone has any info I would be very grateful because then i can create
my own window animations.
Thanks for reading.
If I understand you correctly, you don't want these animations but the stock Android one. I've attached a zip with the stock Android animation files. You just replace the anim folder in framework-res.apk with this one as explained in the link. In the anim folder are the XMLs that need editing if you want to change something

[Theme][2.3.3][28/Apr/11][JVB] AOSP-gingerbread

JVH, JVO and JVP themes can be found in this thread!
I was using ock's gingerbread theme for JVK and really liked versions 1-2. I'm not really interested in "all in one" themes and prefer things to be a bit more modular.
This is a "from scratch" theme, decompiled with apkmanager with graphics from AOSP source.
Also likely to only work with deodexed roms I would assume.
What this does:
* Changes the images in framework-res and SystemUI, these include the window frame shape, status bars and various other graphics.
* Changes a few text colours to properly match the new graphics.
* For the moment, has AOSP stock battery mod. (not percentages).
What this will never do:
* Change your lockscreen.
* Add more lockscreens.
* Have the extended power menu. (iirc these are "unsafe" reboots anyway)
* Include the overscroll glow.
* Include the CRT off animation.
If you're after these features I recommend popping over to ock's thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1010324
But, but, but, I really like the overglow effect!
dhiru1602's stand alone mod should work with these mods: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1027935&highlight=overscroll+glow
TODO:
- Media scanner's entry in the notification dropdown is coloured wrong. (part of TW?)
- Recolour the data connection icon on the power menu.
- Odd browser combo box size error.
- Adjust xml based colours to match AOSP.

Always useful to have a backup when trying new themes, so there's an "uninstall" which will replace the files back to stock.
CWM3 Compatible Installs:
Main theme:
* Install theme - aosp-jvb-vX.Xs.zip
* Samsung stock JVB theme - stock-jvbs.zip
Lockscreen:
* Install AOSP lock - aosp-lock-jvb-s.zip
* Install Samsung lock - glass-lock-jvb-s.zip

You're probably using the stock kernel? You need to flash a custom gingerbread kernel and/or custom rom (basically you need CWM recovery) This theme is only for deodexed roms, so if you just flashed stock via kies or otherwise this probably won't work.
For a deodexed stock rom check out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=948790
Or you can try a custom rom. Check the Development forum for those.

If you just want a minor change, can I recommend the UOT Kitchen?
http://uot.dakra.lt/
It's fairly easy to use (again, you need a deodexed rom for this), grab the framework-res.apk from /system/framework/ from your phone and the SystemUI.apk from /system/app/.
Choose whichever bits you want, then upload those two files and it will generate an update you can flash with CWM.
I think everything except the Boot animation should work on the galaxy s.

I can give it a shot, but without being able to correctly test it, it might be a bit hit and miss.
It's actually not so difficult to do yourself. There is a very good tutorial in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=9978779#post9978779
For the images required I grabbed them from android aosp source, or you could simply decompile my framework-res with apk manager.
Tweaking a few things to match the AOSP xml, few colours, sizes, etc.
Will run it tomorrow on my phone and see if I find any issue then upload it if it's ok.
No problems with it, 1.5 is uploaded. Some new screenshots too!
sargorn, you somehow read mi mind with this them. I'm playing with framework pieces for weeks now trying to find the stock gingerbread look for SGS .
Your theme is looking excellent from all points of view.
Anyway ... please tell me what you did in order to fix the combo box bug in browser .. thanks.
