Flash 10.1 - Desire General

Will it or will it not have Flash 10.1 out of the box?
Will it be good enough to play iplayer etc?
So many conflicting reports!!!

It will not have Flash 10.1 out of the box. It will have Flash 4 and be 10.1 ready for an update later this year. However having seen how my wife's Hero performs with the Beebplayer app I am confident it will play iPlayer admirably.

could you please provide the source of this information.
Look here at the htc website and it says is flash 10.1 ready (although I guess you can argue that is like the 'hd ready'
http://www.htc.com/www/press.aspx?id=124748&lang=1033
Also the desire roms put onto the nexus one have flash 10.1. Is this because they put 10.1 onto the beta rom to show it off at WMC10?

Yes I wondered about this but I think it means it OS capable because of the hardware.
Are the ROMS you speak of actually 10.1?

yeah from what i saw it was 10.1
i guess we only have to wait a few weeks to find out.
i havent seen any video reviews on the desire covering flash which makes me think it might not be there on release.
if its not then it will be missing flash, 720p recording and divx support which is strange as they are 3 major selling points that wont get the publicity from an update

guys, i think it was mentioned is nexus one tread, than this version of flash is somewhere between 10.1 and that flash 4.somethink lite

[Q] Will the Note II get an official CM10?

Hello there peeps, I'm an X Note I user, really enjoyed the experience until my phone got broke heh! And then I bought an S3, my current phone. Im currently running CM10 on my S3, runs good, but because of the close sourcing of the Exynos processor, its still not THAT smooth as it should be. But my taste always is a bigger screen, so I want to get back a Note II. I highly DOUBT that Im ever gonna use Touchwiz....
So the question is, will the Note II get a hands on from Teamhacksung? And we'll get an official support from CM10?
Besides, Samsung has finally decided to give devs some documentation of its Exynos4 source !
Replies would be appreciated as I'm considering to buy the Note in few days, still not so sure! Hope you can help
The current CM team isn't touching any future exynos devices besides the S3 and the Tab if im correct. But if someone new want to come in and start developing for the Note 2 than it would be possible, which we already have a few members here working on CM10 for the note 2 and made some progress. CM10 in the works
Don't expect any official support for CM tho on the Note2..
Running a AOSP build just goes against everything the Note 2 was meant for

Then why did we have a CM10 support for the Note 1 ? Same idea, the whole idea about the Note was with the pen. And yet, the Note I got an official CM10. I dont care about the pen features, Im after a gorgeous 5.5 inch screen actually...and run AOSP rom on it. I can't bare touchwiz.

Those who have tried AOSP roms and figured out that it beats Samsung's Touchwiz ROMS ? Easily and clearly. Forget about the feature Sammy plug in which are awesome for intance. But when it comes to performance and UI ? The Vanilla pure Android experience is the best one out there....

because it uses a older processor than the new Note 2 and GS3 (Exynos 4210) we use Exynos 4412, the GS2 even have problems with CM and other aosp roms. (Didn't some of your roms the menu button didnt work?)
Also the US version of the Note 1 came with a snapdragon processor..
Samsung just don't want to release the right docs for the Exynos line. you can build a AOSP rom for the note 2 it just would be a a$$ to get everything fully working with out the sources you need.
Reb0rn and simone are both working on an unofficial CM10 for the note 2, and I believe Entropy said if they get it working and all their gerrit **** is OK there's no reason for it not to be made official with them as the maintainers.
I may be wrong about that last bit though, it's best to just go read that thread.
I believe cm10 is a downgrade from the stock software. Multitasking for example separates this phone from the rest. Never thought that I'll say a phone out of the box better suits my needs than cm10, aokp, or paranoid. Sorry

Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 Google Play Edition

This tablet line has really sparked my interest but there are almost no roms (only cm11 that I see) and I'd like a nexus experience with physical buttons.
How long before we get some news on the GPE tab pro? Seems like that is what's holding back rom development for this line, correct?

I would say that what is holding back ROM development is a complete lack of developers...
With my CM11 device tree repos, it should be relatively straight-forward for someone to build other source based ROMs. But, none have appeared.
Then there is the world of ROMs that are based on the stock ROM. We don't have anyone that has stepped up and made the standard debloated ROM. Sadly, that means that there probably aren't any people that know how to do that either.
That said, the hardware is great and I get to piggy-back on a lot of the work that Cyanogen does for the Note 3 which makes some of the hardware support very advanced. FWIW, I'm quite happy with my purchase.
As much as I love my 8.4, A black 32GB Google Play edition would pretty much require me to buy another :good:

Agreed. I really wish I had the equipment and know-how to use your kernel and device tree and build SlimKat (my ROM of choice). Hopefully more folks will buy this tablet as time goes by, and we'll get some more talent in here. I did have a pm conversation with someone from the Slim team who expressed a little interest in the device, so fingers crossed.

Any chance your work will be submitted to be an officially supported Cyanogenmod device?
Or is it too much work to be a maintainer for a device.
Thank you so much for your work already.

My goal is to make it official when I have everything working. But, I have to finish it first... I already maintain one device so adding a second wouldn't be that big a deal.
I just couldn't hold out any long. Picked up the black on yesterday and WOW this screen is amazing. I'll be running CM11 from your thread by lunch, and will help to provide feedback over there. thanks!!
I was wondering why any root/rom discussion seems to only be focused on the 8.4; are there reasons the 10.1 isn't included (I realize less people seem to be getting the bigger tab). Looking to love my 10.1, as the 8.4 is too small for my reading needs. Thanks for any info!

Two reasons. One, I have a tab pro 8.4... Two, the 8.4 is based on the snapdragon 800 (msm8974) processor which is very well supported on other devices. The 10.1 is an Exynos processor which is not well supported by source built android roms.

Thanks for the quick and helpful reply. Pretty new to Android world, but I loved switching from my iPhone 5 to the Nexus 5 so much, and how easy it was to root, and add Franco and Gravity Box, that I jumped on the 10.1 to replace my iPad Air. Knew Nexus' were known for being easy to root, but didn't know about Samsung's Knox Warranty Killer! But still mostly pleased, and as I despise Apple's $200 for 64gb(- os) policy, love being able to carry around 3000 books, several movies, and 30gb of flac music.
Hopefully it will be safe to root soon.

[Q] Anyone Heard of any Developers?

has anyone heard of any developers that have shown interest in creating Rom's for this tab? I am very interested from the spec point of view in the 8.4, but I do not like the sense UI and would want a speedy rom for it, but it does not look like much is happening on here. I know this is a new tab, but that is a sticking point for me before buying. If not this then I think I will wait for the galaxy tab 8 (rumored), the specs on it look great as well and it will have good support from google updating the base software so I think it will have a good development forum. Any thoughts?

We just got recovery so something should happen soon if at all. Crpalmer has Cyanogenmod 11 working on this tab. It is an expensive tablet so it will not get much interest due to the price.

It is a darn great tablet spec wise though, it looks like it could handle anything you threw at it. I am really salivating over it, I wish I was a better coder to be able to create some roms myself.
With crpalmer's CM 11, anyone wanting to develop their own AOSP ROM, or port another, should have a relatively easy time of it, since kernel is already built.

Unless you're willing to flash roms from other devices, I'm don't think you're gonna get anything lower than Kit Kat... Tab's still new enough there's barely any roms out for it.

Which device rom i could try on T320?
Lol that question is out of my league. You can wait and see if another more knowledgeable person respond to your question. Or maybe look in the sections for devices with similar specs (Snapdragon 800) and then post in the help forums and ask them if their roms are capable of being used on our tablet.

Do not flash a ROM intended for another device. There is no chance that it will work and could hard brick your device.

If you flash a Rom from another device you are going to brick it. There is also almost 0 chance any dev will ever make a Rom lower than than Kit Kat. Clear the cache on the game and see if that helps. Un install and re install. If the prob, em persists find a similar game that works but do not trash your expensive device man.
I'm going to at least empathize with the OP here. The biggest downside of the 8.4 to me is that it turns out that a lot of the web stuff I do is expecting flash to run. And please don't tell me flash is dead and html 5 rUleZ - yes, I know, but a lot of web devs haven't gotten the memo yet.
I would love it if there was interest in the CM community in making n-1 releases available for devices, as they are so good at getting the current OS and the N+1 releases available.

New hardware often requires new software. The tab pro 8.4 is a dual dsi device that is on the bleeding edge of what is supported. I can't even guess at the level of complexity involved in porting an older CM version. Next year, there will be n-1 (kitkat) support but before then I will be shocked if anyone tries and even more shocked if someone successfully got an older android running on this tablet.

But not in Flipboard, which embeds a lot of video into articles. I can break out of Flipboard and into dolphin, then load the file that way but it's a much better experience on my 4.2 device which can simply load the video.
The experience is similar with other apps that embed links.
Oh, and of course I'd forgotten - the magazine UI is basically flipboard, so it must spend a lot of time *trying* to show video and being unable to, because so much video out in the world won't work with Kitkat, or barely wll at best.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is dual DSI?
I understand that the n-1 support is difficult, especially given how long folks often have to lobby to get source code. I still empathize with the OP, though - if I want to run an older linux on newer hardware, I very often can. I may sacrifice a feature or three, but it would be nice if Android supported doing that as well.

There's the thing - as far as I know, folks with build tools and knowhow aren't that interested in trying.
My impression is that it's ultimately down to the difficulty of getting source for hardware drivers, to support building without dependencies on newer system features. A lot of times, though, it's expressed along the lines of "what idiot would want to do that?" - and the transition to Kitkat is starting to highlight some areas where the newer OS seems incremental at best, and for many, purely lateral.

Dual dsi means that your big lovely pixel rich screen is actually two screens that are so carefully aligned that you can't tell and android is splitting the display between the two screens.
This is very new (for the CM 11 build I had to pull in fixes that were newer than what CM was currently supporting) and whether or not people want to try to port and older android, I would be shocked if someone did so successfully.
