Probably old news, but I thought i'd mention it anyways for those who don't know.
HTC is giving a rebate for trading in your old PDA and getting a tilt 2 (or Pure).
I jsut sent in my old kaiser and should be getting a $100 rebate shortly.
$50 for the phone and $50 for getting the tilt2

yeah i posted this about 4 months ago when i got my tilt2. I think they extended it because i remember the deadline being mid february and now it says May.
I have an old HTC Wizard laying around that i've been meaning to trade in but the screen is marked up so badly that i'm afraid they won't take it.
What do you think, should i take the risk?
I wouldn't bank on a quick response. I sent my Kaiser in the last week of January and still haven't gotten anything yet. They say something like 8-12 weeks?? My kaiser was in perfect condition, so if I don't hear anything I'll be royally pissed.

Got my check yesterday, Ordered my Tilt on 12-15-09 and sent the rebate in within 3-4 days of getting it.
It's one of the few rebates i've ever actually gotten back! I cannot tell you how many i have sent in (not for phones) that i have never recieved!
Glad to hear they do actually send out the check, even if they do take their sweet time about it.
always keep coppies of everything and call them. dont be surprised if you complain to them and some how end up getting double rebates out of nowhere. its happened to us a few times.
ANYWAYS, i would send in the tilt for trade but they wont give me a dime since the water mark in the battery compartment is turned red, although the phone is fine.

Wife and I got our T-Mobile TP2s about the same time you got your Tilt...and our checks just came this week. Yes, they still sent 2 to the same household. I got $50 for my old Nokia 6263, which I was surprised they would take.
Thanks for this! I was almost past my 30 days. Tilt will be sent off tomorrow morning. They didn't ask if it was scratched but only if water damage, hinge damage and working.
My TILT, about a month after I got it, it fell out of the belt holster and I drop kicked it face down the asphalt street. Didn't scratcht he screen but the buttons and rim were not so nice anymore. Works perfectly but I would never get 100 bucks for it on ebay.

I may wait to send the package in until I get your reply. I dont want to loose a working phone. At least I have it as a fall back if flashing the TILT2 ends up bad some time.

I got my rebate on Friday.. for the full $100.
Make sure you have a fully charged battery, copies of all paperwork and you should be ok. I sent in a HP 6315 and they accepted it.
Here is my status:

I don't believe so. I am fairly certain the rebate website mentions there is no guarantee you'll get the full $100, and if your phone fails their tests you do not get it back.
Well, that would stink since I would have just kept it as a back up if there was a chance of just losing it. How can they just keep it..I would be willing to pay shipping to get it back. Wish I hadn't sent it now. Well, wish me luck!!

Looks like this is a pretty risky venture if your phone isn't perfect. If I had read this first I wouldn't have done it. I met all the criteria but since the buttons are scratched I'm sure they will lower what they pay me.

I accidentally dropped my phone on concrete floor and shattered the screen My claim has been approved yesterday morning, but hasn't shipped yet. I'm wondering if anyone here knows how long am I gonna have to wait to get my replacement? They said up to five days, but I just figured i would ask people here who have already gotten their phones replaced.
They were extremely fast when I had to make a claim. Unfortunately that was the only thing they did good, I got stuck with the phone they sent me even though it was garbage and had a busted speaker.
I have best buy's warranty now since there is no deductible and you can make more than one claim, I havent had to use it though so I dont know if they are easy to work with.

When was that, exactly? Also, you should call them up and demand a new phone. That's unacceptable and they will replace your phone, no questions asked.

It was around December last year, it was for my old HTC Touch. I had just quit smoking at the time and had to leave the sprint store before I got arrested, I was seriously about to back hand the girl who told me "it wasnt that bad."
I have been compensated by sprint in other ways so I havent left them yet but I just noticed on my new bill they are charging me fees and taxes for Arizona + the state I actually live in. And I have never lived in or even been anywhere near Arizona. So yeah, they are trying my patients.
I've had the same phone number for almost ten years now, great way to treat your loyal customers huh

asurion is a major insurance provider, almost every carrier. and you are supplied with refurbished replacements as necessary.
Just made a claim for my EVO yesterday. It seems to me that they're too new to be replaced by refurbished models. A couple friends who work at separate Sprint stores seem to think the same thing, but have yet to see any EVO's replaced yet. We will see and I will update when it comes in.

I made a claim on Tuesday (7/27), it was approved on 7/28 & the CC information was taken then as well. I have no idea when my replacement will come but I will also update when I get it.
My current shattered evo still works & I am trying to consider the cracks in the screen a live wallpaper, but thats not really working.
despite what the best buy sales reps might tell you, their insurance gives out refurbs as well. personally i really like refurbs, since your less likely to have problems since the item has now been double/triple checked. my experience with refurbs has been excellent, YMMV. best buy salesman told me sprint insurance deduct is 150 (lie) and you can only make 1 claim a year (lie) and best buy gives you a new phone, not refurb (lie again). i actually have both insurances on my account right now, not sure why. if i break it maybe i can get 2 new (refurb) phones

Why would you want to pay for both insurances?
I learned the hard way about BB insurance - Dork Squad protection only covers manufacturer defects, normal wear & tear, and does NOT cover lost, stolen, physical or water-damaged phones. Nor do they repair your phone on-site in their store (unlike some Sprint stores) - rather, they send it out to a repair center to get it fixed, with a $150 deposit for a p.o.s. loaner phone while it's out for repair, and they will ONLY replace it with a new phone if they deem your phone unrepairable at the repair center. Funnily enough, it took the dork at the Dork Squad counter longer to fill out a repair claim form than it ever did for me to fill out a claim online at Asurion.
Considering BB charges $10/mo for their insurance (which is already covered by Sprint, or whatever phone company, as well as the manufacturer) and a $150 loaner deposit, whereas Asurion charges $7/mo with a $100 deductible for a refurbed phone (although I think Evo's are new, since my replacement was hehe), I wouldn't waste my money on BB's insurance again. I'm still fighting with them to replace a laptop they've fixed 3 times within a year under their dork protection's 'lemon' clause, and they continue to insist my screen was replaced 3 times for different reasons each time...but that's another story lol.
oh, and the ETA for my replacement Evo was about 5 days (claimed on a Friday night, got it on a Wednesday).

The phone is coded as such. ##786# will tell you refurb status and date. If its new it will say " <Not Available> " under both of those.

Thanks. I thought my replacement was refurb as the store manager was claiming as such. I had to file a Sprint warranty repair since my USB port snapped off the board from normal use.

i know there are a couple of phone insurance threads floating around already but i felt like there needed to be a separate one strictly for the people that bought it through the play store...it falls under different warranty and its a different circumstance
for anyone that has/will buy insurance for this phone please list the company, rate (yearly or monthly) deductible, waiting period and if it excludes anything major that we may need (for example some policies dont cover loss only theft)

A few things to note:
Does not provide coverage if you simply lose your phone, it must have been stolen and a police report must be filed, if so. Also, if the phone was stolen from your car, there must be evidence of force-able entry: i.e. taken from a car with unlocked doors or open windows = no coverage.

i looked into worth ave group..best price by far...2 reasons why im hesitant to go with them
1. no loss protection (as you mentioned)
2. i was reading the claims q&a and it says for damages you have to bring it to a store first to get it evaluated and it seems like if you can get it repaired they will send you a check for the amount of necessary...and if its beyond repair they will need a letter stating so from the store... all this nonsense instead of being able to simply ship a broken device to them and pay the deductible...are you aware of that?
also...did you ask you them specifically about the device? my main concern is that they say they cover it, then when the time comes they give you a comparable replacement because its an overseas (unlocked) phone

Yeah, I am not too concerned about the non-coverage for loss as I am pretty good about keeping my phone with me at all times. For the repair issues, I am aware of that disclosure and can live with that, especially when factoring in the cost of the insurance.

not a fan of that procedure

I'm not too worried about that. I actually prefer getting money for the phone instead of a replacement anyways. There could be a better model/phone available at the time of making a claim which I could then buy.

I haven't decided who to go with yet. But, I do prefer this procedure. If they just send me a check for $399 instead of replacing my Galaxy Nexus, then a year down the line, I can get the best phone available for $399, which I'm betting won't be the Galaxy Nexus. Think about that!

agreed...but i feel like since they are handing out money instead of a device they are going to make you go through hell to get it...no one likes to hand over money
2ndly...i have double and triple checked ensquared...they definitely cover the international nexus...i made it a point to distinguish the verizon model and stated that i dont want a SG2 or comparable phone as a replacement because i already have that and thats why im making the switch in the first place..he told me that comparable devices are only given if the customer is rushing them to locate a device ,if its been discontinued or if its not a popular device and you bought it from a small market company or carrier...which google obviously is not...i even got the reps name and a direct line (which i called)
im going to go with them...$59 for 1 year and it covers damage, loss, theft and many other things...sweet deal with a $75 deductible...beats my $7.99/mo and $130 deductible with tmobile

Since this thread comes up in a quick Google search, I figured I'd give my .02 cents while I'm in the middle of a claim with Worth Ave Group.
My phone dropped and has a cracked screen as of Sunday. I filed a claim via the website and waited 24 hours. No response. Monday: I sent an email through their website. No response. I called later and got a representative that said they received the claim. After the phone call, I got a reply to my initial claim. Tuesday: I get a 2nd response from the email I sent from their website. My first issue is not only are they not 24x7, but they also take 24-48 hours to respond. The customer service rep says we should wait 2-3 business days for a response. My previous claims with Asurion had a new device on my doorstep by the next day, so this is stark contrast in customer service.
I was instructed to get a quote from a local repair shop. Even though Worth Ave instructed me to go to a specific repair shop, they didn't seem to be aware of Worth Ave's policy. I was not able to get a written estimate nor did they send me the follow-up email they promised me. I still sent an email back to Worth Ave's claim department with the amount quoted. Most likely, I'll have to wait another 24-48 hours for a response on what I can expect next (maybe a repair of my device). If they agree to pay for the repair, reimbursement can take up to 2 weeks.
TL;DR: Don't go with Worth Ave Group if you expect to get a quick turnaround in case of an event. Time is money. Pay a little more for 24x7 service which will ship you a replacement.
I recently purchased a GSM Galaxy Nexus from the Google Play Store which I am extremely happy with.
My mother (who is in dire need of an upgraded device) was drooling over this phone when she first saw me with it. So, as a mothers day gift I purchased one for her and shipped it to her address.
She called me when she received the device (last thursday) and told me that the shipping packaging was completely sealed, but the nexus box inside had a broken seal and the device's plastic protectors were pealed off and stuck to the inside of the box.
My mother gave me a ring and asked me to contact Google and would not power on the device because wanted an unopened one.
I rang Google yesterday and informed them I received a device in an opened box with a broken seal. Google said that was a bit weird, but if the device is working properly they see no need in taking any action.
So, this was relayed to my mother and I had asked her to try the device for a day or so and report back. She called me this morning to tell me that the phone was constantly turning off when charging.
I immediately called Google back today and reported the issue and asked for a replacement device. They instructed me to contact the manufacturer to resolve any issues with the device.
Now - I'm at work and I wasn't able to scream my head off, so I kindly ended my conversation with the Google representative.
I have yet to contact Samsung, but I would imagine they would want to service the device.
My question to you is: should I continue to argue with Google about replacing my device or is it really something I'm going to have to deal with Samsung about?
I really don't think that if I purchased something from a store the seller should tell me to contact the manufacturer if the purchased merchandise was open and not functional upon receipt of that merchandise directly from the seller.
Should it not be a simple refund or exchange?
UPDATE: According to the Google representative I just spoke with, Google no longer handles exchanges as of Friday 4 May. They redirected my call to a Samsung representative for an exchange. Samsung took down my IMEI number and processed an RMA for the device. I must now wait up to 24 hours to be contacted by Samsung so that I may provide my credit card information in case I don't return the device within 30 days.

Yes it should but Samsung is only going to tell you send in the device and they will fix it but I wouldn't want a refurbished device that was supposed to brand new

14 days but there is a restocking fee of 15% I believe. However, they should replace the phone by overnighting a new one. If they won't, call them back until you find someone who will.

I just think they're hesitant on giving me an RMA for a replacement because I've already replaced my first device due to a grainy discolored screen with a lot of ghosting.
The one I have now is great.
Hopefully they won't give any more troubles with the replacement of the second purchased device.

They shouldn't. The gnex you bought for your mom is a completely different order. Besides, if their policy is to replace it, that's what they'll do.
I no I'm not in America but on every phone box I have scene in the uk. The label says don't accept this item if the seal is dam aged in anyway!

Sorry to hear about your experience. I suspected that if the majority of complaints were legit and were widespread beyond XDA perfectionists , that Google would be contacting Samsung and telling them 'this is your baby', because they were pissed that they were wasting as much resources answering calls, determining whether person merited a new unit, paying postage to return defective unit and send out new one, etc. I love my phone and am happy I got it, but until I know that quality control is better I'd be apprehensive recommending it to others. I know 400 US is a great price for a phone with these features, but it still is a lot of money and for that much people should have no remorse or fears that they're not getting exactly what they paid for.

Pretty much this. There has to be some push back on their end. If you stay polite but firm and persistent, they will most definitely overnight you a new phone.

I was pretty pleased with Squaretrade when I had my Note 1, as the turnaround was incredibly fast and the repair work was really well done.
Picked up a new warranty for my Note 2 and sadly had to use it rather quickly after getting the phone.
November 27 I filed a claim with Squaretrade for my broken screen. Dumb mistake, set it on my wallet and it eventually hit the kitchen floor. Really didn't seem like much of a drop, but the cracks were there and I figured I might as well file the claim. Now I wish I waited. Had 2 large cracks on the phone and a small chip on the bottom right of the glass.
Everything went off without a hitch, they emailed me the 2nd day UPS label, and off it went. They received it on the 29th with the standard (potentially) "fixed and returned" within 5 days message. It's been 11 days now. I called last week Friday and was told that they were waiting for a digitizer that was to arrive that day and would have my phone out that night. Was pretty happy with that and waited to receive an email with a tracking number. Nothing.
Back on the phone with them today and I'm getting the same story just different ship date. They received the part on Friday, and would hopefully have it repaired and shipped out tonight. It's a cellphone shop and repair depot (Cellular Fantasy in LA, CA), so I'm wondering if they are just backed up with repairs or they don't work weekends? I was also advised that if I want a tracking number I need to call them tonight to ensure it actually went out this time.
So overall I'm probably looking at 13-14 days without my phone. Had I known about the delay, I probably would have waited a month considering the phone actually functioned like normal despite the large cracks.
Anyway, just putting this out there for anyone on the fence about a Squaretrade warranty. I will update with pics of the repaired phone once I finally receive it.

I had horror stories with SqureTrade and my Samsung Galaxy 10.1 Tab. There was a well known issue with displays on that device with what looked like wet spots (Newton Ring). Sent back my device a total of three times, and always came back with a replacement screen that had the same exact problem. Wrote Squaretrade corporate of the issue, and they never replied. I am not sure that I will use or recommend SquareTrade again.
I never considered using them for a cell phone, as the turnaround times with no cell phone are not acceptable for me.

Well, when I did my Note 1 claim, there was an option for waiting for a replacement to be sent and mail back the old phone (though I opted for repair which was quick). Was really hoping this was going to be the case this time, but I understood because this was a new phone that it was going to need servicing rather than replacement. The turn around is pretty unworkable for me with my job and will make me think twice next time. I'm just hoping they do a good job as this wait has been maddening.

Thanks for posting your story, and I'll be interested to hear your updates. I read your original review of Squaretrade, and your story actually motivated me to get coverage of my Note 2. Well, it was also significantly cheaper to insure it through Squaretrade than through AT&T or Best Buy ($90 for 2 years and $100 deductible is reasonable). I know Squaretrade doesn't cover lost or stolen devices, but that's not why I wanted insurance.
When I first bought coverage, the Note 2 wasn't an option on the website yet. I called customer service and was connected to a well-spoken rep within 30 seconds. He was extremely helpful and recorded my device info and confirmed coverage right on the spot and sent a confirmation email. This was far better customer service than I've ever had when dealing with AT&T.
In the end though I hope to never need to use the insurance *fingers crossed*

You still have coverage for a repair, but if they send you a reimbursement check, your warranty is done. As far as I understand, you are covered for up to the cost of the device. So if I'm not mistaken, the cost of repairs is deducted from that price (~$600) and continues to dwindle upon each use. Only problem I can see with that is they determine the pricing and never tell you the costs. So this repair + parts might be $300, so if I really have a bad accident causing the device to die in the future, I might be refunded $300 (really $200 after deductible). And ya, you will have to pay another deductible.
The warranties are easily transferable for the life of the warranty, so I don't think you'll run into any problems with names on receipts and such.
My main reason for going with Squaretrade is just like yours: price. AT&T is $200 or $250 for deductible on top of their $7 a month. That's quite a lot for an item that always drops in value as weeks go by and newer, fancier phones come out.
best buy is $240 for two years ($10/mo)and no deductible. not necessarily $240 either. $240 is only if you have the phone that long. its only $180 if you have it for 18 mos...

best buys warranty is $10/month or $170 for 2yrs, does not cover lost or stolen, and No deductible.
If something were to happen within the first 7 months where they wont fix, send refurbished phone, or give you credit towards a new phone. Which has happened to my brother you get the prorated amount back from them. He got back $170 from his Black tie plan and they also let him pick any phone that was the same price of the dell streak ( $600 at that time). So he got new phone and the money he paid for the black tie plan back since you get a discount if you purchase 2yrs upfront. Not bad deal if you ask me and with the note2 it seems to be one of the few phones that will last 2 yrs at least or with how fast these phones are coming out you will be covered through the black tie protection.
It beats AT&T's insurance plan including several other out there right now, besides there is no B&M store to bring your device to when you need warranty service and no one to yell at in person when something isn't right.
It seems that best buy's insurance would be a slightly better deal if you ever need to file a claim. However I would rather only pay $90 for two years and pay the extra $100 if something breaks down the line. Considering I used my last iPhones case less and never had an incident, hopefully the same will go with my Note. $90 for two years peace-of-mind is basically what I bought.
Got my phone back this morning. I called last night for a tracking number and they said I would get an email within an hour with the information. Unfortunately it never came. Went to work this morning a bit annoyed as I didn't get an email, but received a call that I had an overnighted UPS box waiting for me at home.
Looks like new, so I won't bother with pics. They did all sorts of diagnostics and included screenshot proof (3 pages) of each test they ran. Only thing I am curious about is the battery test conclusion. Since the phone was barely in its second week of use, it was graded as Good rather than Excellent. Just curious what they would consider to be excellent since this is pretty damn close to brand new.
Anyway, besides the long wait (due to being a new phone) and lack of communication towards the end, I am pretty happy with the service. Screen protector and case now applied so hopefully I can keep from paying out another deductible.
*edit* Just a fun side story, but I went to AT&T to get a new micro sim set up, and I was asked to browse around as I waited for someone to be available. Was a bit odd since the store was practically empty besides the 9 employees. A plain clothed Samsung rep was at the store and asked if I was buying a Samsung phone as I was looking at the cases. After informing him I was just waiting for a new sim to put in my Note 2 he spent the next 15 minutes showing me all sorts of features of the phone. Must have been bored as I mentioned a few times I already owned one so selling me further on the features wasn't going to do much. Probably wanted to practice his sales pitch.
Back from the dead.
Dropped my phone yesterday while on the treadmill. It fell, got pulled by the aux cable, then fell a full foot from where it detached. I was thinking, "damn, glad I have a screen protector and case on it." Well, the glass is intact, but it's bleeding internally. Screen is getting worse and worse. Another $100 down the drain to squaretrade.
Or so I thought!
I called them and told them I really didn't want to wait as long as I did last time. They told me I had the option of finding a local shop to repair it at no additional deductible. All I have to do is pay for it, fax them the receipt, and I will be reimbursed as long as it doesn't go over $599. Took all day but found a shop that could have the part in by tomorrow and repaired same day for $360. Fingers crossed. Still impressed.

That's awesome.
For me I just got my phone back today from a local shop. He fried the first screen and had to order another so I had to wait another few days. Shop has sworn never to touch another note 2 though haha. Works flawlessly now and with the commuter, though huge, feels secure like it did when I had one on my note 1.
Anyway submitting my receipt today for reimbursement. Fingers crossed it goes smooth. Gotta say that this warranty has paid for itself multiple times and the lack of deductible on this fix was over the top.

I've had my Pixel since launch day (lucky me). Bought through Verizion... 128gig XL in black.
Just a word of caution for any out there that feel comforted in having insurance! I broke my Pixel digitizer/lcd (screen is not cracked, but digitizer under it is DEAD) on Friday of last week. I started a claim with Asurion on Saturday, and they said it's on backorder, and i can't choose a different phone or anything...
So I'm phone-less at the moment and in limbo waiting for Asirion! Anyone know of any other options I can pursue? I was in a chat with an Asurion rep and they said "the average wait time for backordered phones is 3-7 days" they added they would follow up every 48 hours... But go figure - no follow up yesterday...
I'm also wondering if that backorder estimate is for "ALL backordered phones" and doesnt relate directly to the Pixel? (The Pixel could be longer???)
Any other options/things I should do? Luckily I have a wifi tablet i've been limping along with...
That sucks, and from what you just explained your only other options are to get a loaner phone or something like that. the reason they can not replace your device with another device is because the device is unique being that it is googles first device and that you have the xl (the more expensive model), and the 128 gig (the most expensive model) if the device is back ordered than you really are unfortunately out of luck, they would not be able to offer you a lesser device and they can not offer you anything better or comparable, because nothing exists.
my recommendation for you my good sir would be to take advantage of Google finally opening a sales portal that has a dedicated customer service staff. the customer support for the pixel and other google products is awesome. i could tell when i contacted them that they are trying to be on par with other major companies in regards to accountability and customer service standards. i would call them up and complain like crazy. tell them you bought the most expensive phone they sell, bought all the ancillary products that were sold such as insurance to protect your expensive investment and now you are out of a phone. tell them you don't mind waiting but can not do so without a phone, you need your phone for work and life. From here just tell them you will not require a full refund if they in turn send you a nexus 6, tell them it can be refurbished and you will send it back to them once your device is replaced. They will have to bend, they have no other option, its google who has massively underestimated the supply and demand of this device, they are the reason that all companies with access to selling these devices do not have them stocked.
Following up - I think I have very good and exciting news to share. There's a 1:1 support I filled out online, and they literally called me within like 2 seconds of hitting submit and i was connected to someone.
They directed me to www.ubreakifix.com/google -- as their official partner. I called the location closest to me (like a 20 min drive from my work) and they said they can likely replace it in 45 minutes on lunch!
If all goes smoothly, like i expect (they were very nice to talk to) - I'll report back and will likely end up dropping insurance. This should only cost $149 ($50 cheaper than insurance deductable) - and I'm throwing money away monthly for insurance!
Game = changed if all goes smoothly on lunch today!

FIXED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Took about an hour and cost around $160. ($40 cheaper than insurance!)
Definitely dropping insurance today.
I asked about Galaxy phones (my wife has an s7) and he mentioned that they are much more expensive to fix screens... (Just FYI). But they do repair any phone. I think the good prices on Google products have to do with the relationship/partner agreement they have with Google.
Very cool and two thumbs way up to both Google support, and www.ubreakifix.com!
I'll add that i literally can't tell the phone was taken apart. Very solid work. No marks or any indications of any sort.

I have dealt with them before and getting stuff replaced doesn't void the warranty. I personally will keep insurance until more parts are available. They couldn't fix my water damage pixel xl (i got it working myself)

That sounds like the price he mentioned for Galaxy's. I assume the edge screens are the big cost there... My wife has a standard s7 - i should ask approx what that would be.

Don't drop insurance... Because although they can fix phones... They can't make them appear out of thin air if yours is stolen or lost... Just use them if it's physical damage... But I'd have the insurance for when/if the worst happens.... Just my .02¢
I don't know if it has changed, but I use to use asurion exclusively for all my devices, and I stopped using them when I found out all of their replacement devices are actually refurbished devices. Just pointing it out because if this is still the way they operate, it would explain why the device is on back order.

Very interesting... I'm liking what I'm seeing on their website. I always get a new phone every year, so I would just buy their yearly plan. Doesn't help with stolen? Or does it?

Good points. Worth noting that I ended up NOT dropping Asurion. But the SquareTrade idea is intriguing.

I didnt think the insurance was optional if bought thru verizon? It was just added to my acct, nobody asked me if i wanted it or not. Not that i mind, i have used it twice before on diff devices and had a replacement within two days (not the xl obviously).
