Messaging Shortcut

Question: Does anyone know a registry edit or what line in the .xml file edits the shortcut for messaging? I'm not talking about the key on the phone, but the shortcut on the Homescreen. When you click on the shortcut for messaging it brings you to the screen w/ Text/Multimedia, Windows Live, and New E-Mail Account... When I click on it I want it to open up IMSMS. Anyone know how?
But if anyone knows how to remap the button in the lower right, that would be helpful as well.

Has anyone gotten this to work? I tried for a few minutes this morning and had no luck. I'm not sure which directory I should start from... Any help would be appreciated! I just started using extreme text on my phone and I LOVE it, but to fully integrate it I want to be able to push the messaging button and have extreme text come up instead of the mail program. Thanks for any help!!

try this, its worth a shot.
you will need Total commander. do a google and you will find their official site. its free aswell.
You will need to go into \windows\ and locate tmail:

after you locate it go into menu and and hit edit.
you will get something like the picture below:
at this point dont do anything to it.
locate exactly where the "exe." file is located for the program you want to use.
here is an example of my old t-zones key entry modded for Tornado low light, which is a great app by the way. i had to add everything in the quotes.
once you have found its exact location you will need to enter that information back to where image one is at. make sure that you keep "19#" in there.
let us know if that works if not we can keep helping you.
another thing i was going to mention was that you may loose your MMS and email functionality from that button. im not 100% sure of this but make sure you either take a screen capture or write down everything exactly as you see if you want your button to work like it used to.
hopefully i didnt over complicate things because its not that hard and we are here to help you if you get stuck somewhere.

Yeah, I did, actually, it was already in there, with a number after it. I'll do a screenshot on it tomorrow if I get a chance and post it.
I'm not sure if I restarted my phone yet, let me do that.

Okay, restarted it, and no worky, takes me to the WM6 Messaging Screen.
So, I went and checked, and here's what's there for the value.
"\Storage Card\Program Files\Extreme Text\eXtremetext.exe" /MAILLIST
I'm going to remove the part after the quote and see what happens.
Nope, still no worky after restarting.
I'm going to try the other method.

That didnt' work either. I double and triple checked it all, no worky.
What could I be doing wrong?

Just uninstalled it and reinstalled it to the main memory, same problems, I changed the locations so they were correct.

Yes, it didn't change any other mod. I still have the possibility to change background in all tabs, have different layout, icons etc.
And yes, you can use the same backgrounds from other tabs or you own only for this tab.
Only problem is, that this mod didn't use landscape

There is a problem with this app and dutty's v3.3 with default start menu and programs tab enabled. When u install this software, the last tab in your manila disappears. Mine was Settings, and it was gone... So it was kinda hard to get to settings to change the tab order, but i done it and made the Music tab the last and it's gone but this Today App works fine but there one more thing, try setting "Override tab height" 200 for example in MTP settings, and at the manila tab u will see 2 halfs of backgrounds, aswell as when you hold the Today tab in manila it will show "Today Screen" on the back background, not front

It overwrites my Manila preferences page. Now I want to get back the preferences page and map it instead to the stock tab.

you have another solution. In the config app, select today as target page. It will create a new page named today with your today plugins.

I created an extra tab nr.12 (with regedit) and copied the values from the settings(nr.11) tab to the new tab and did a reset then installed MTP did an other reset. MTP shows up as the last tab and your settings tab is still there and also now you're able to move the MTP tab around to the position you want.

From me it deleted the 3rth tab.. my SMS tab... noidea how to get it back, nor do i get an extra tab with MTP options or anything..

works fine for me, it overwrote my settings tab, but i regedited the Tabs so i had the setting tab instead of one of the ones i didn't use anymore (i.e. stocks).

Be nice togehter. There are many coders outside who writes pretty good and usefull software. But these guys have only one phone!!!
Not enough money to by every actually phone to write the source for everyone. Or is there a possibillity. Ah yes. Donate and the guys can do that.....
I am a coder too. Not for phones but for industrial automation controls systems. No not Siemens, i am a lucky one .
The today plugin runs on my phone perfect. OK i have an original one. Seen my signautre. But everyone who knows a loittle bit over cocking, cabbing and manila problems, use never the install cab files. Take a klook in the file what he does and do it on the old way. Step by step with your hands and a keyboard.
And another thing is: the most people ~90% forget to do a backup before install new apps. Backup files or the complete phone. However, backup is the trick to come back every time to the original status.
The trick from us users is to feel the toughts from the coder to get an idea what he has done. Why is the button green and not black
The other part of the story is: everybody is free to install apps. Or it is the story - ahh a new driver/app, i MUST have - Why that, we humans are crazy? Thanks god the coders not
Ok back to reallity. Be nice and have respect for the work from others. Many hours of coding, coffee, meal and lovely people in the background that support coders. Give all the time contsructive comments or reports.
Ahh by the way, a report from xda that is an idea. Then every coder can use that doc for user reports. I think i have work todo today.

In the main settings from MTP there you can select to use the same background as normal, or you can use a own one. There is the possibillity too, to change the hight for your own background.
Play a while with that and you find out new things. I hope it help's.

Ok, there are 79 pages. I have done it and can find out a way on every problem. Why you not? Ok the app is an older one and so as i sayed, the coder can't do it for all the phones and the installed software. My question again. The most of you are using billy soft. Is everyone from you agree what ms have done? I don't think so. But there is all the time a solution for problems. Possible the coder can fix the problems. We have to write down all the facts and inform the owner of the app, because the coder don't take a look in every thread that talks about his app. So be nice and talk with him .

There is a setting for the offset hight for the background. Play a little bit with that. I had have problems too, but in the end i have used a different background. For me it is not so important. Important is that the apps are working. Possible the coder can fix it. We have to write down all the facts and inform the owner of the app. I hoipe it helps a little bit. The bars are Thermed wisbars using the Wisbar Adv3 which can be trialed and downloaded at http://www.lakeridgesoftware.com/products/pocketpc/WisBarAdvance/. This program you should be able to use on any rom. I've found no need to used cooked rom's so at this stage I would have to say no on this.Tks for your comments.

So can u confirm that it works on cooked rom too ?? Because i still see on the first post that it works for default rom only .
The second thing is how to disable the digital clock at the Home Screen
The last one is which version of manilla should i use because now i'm using rom without manila but just miss my manilla when i saw your works.

No I can't confirm as I don't have a cooked ROM, Don't know what you mean by the Digital clock as you say your not using manila. What ROM you use is a personal choice.

what i did
i installed all the cabs one by one then moved the windows skins separately into the wmp folder as per the instructions, sort of ignored the wisbar
it all then started working after a few restarts but I didn't like the outcome, not sure if I got the full effect of course as I didn't / couldn't follow the instructions.
screen pics here look better on the top of the thread than what appeared on my phone... plus everything slowed down very much.
Again, I didn't follow the instructions per letter so maybe that's why I didn't get the full effect

All Zip's need to be opened on your home computer, CAB files are copied and pasted to your phone usually onto your storage card and then within your phone go to those CAB files and press and Install and follow any Instructions.
The Background are just copied and pasted to your phone and then selected through the TouchFLO settings.
The Ultimate WMP Folder is copied and pasted to your Windows Media Player folder on your phone and then selected through the menu options when you boot up your media player.
The Instructions are detailed as to how you get the wisbar on and to get the full affect you will need this. Just place it's folder on your storage card and then follow the instructions.

Anyway ive spent countless hours going through .xml's trying to find where it would be located. I thought i came close a couple of times but i would only get stuck in a bootloop. Its either located in an .xml somewhere or it can only be changed from the source(which would suck). There arent many of us who have taken on the task of theming the Hero so we may be alone in our efforts. There is also the "remove" and "select" that would have to be taken out possibly from seperate .xmls otherwise it would overlap the image.
Good thing is that if it is an .xml mod, then there is a simple solution. We just have to find the darn .xmls that control it.
If you wanted to try something temporary, you could replace the middle tab with the image you wanted and modify it with borders and shadows etc to give it a sort of flushed look. Like if it sits within the tab. I tried it with a few images and it came out nice. Worth a try. Anyway great work. Looking forward to your finished theme

dont know anything about xml...ive only got a weeks worth of gimp/photoshop in me lol....my start was trying to edit the google icon...and OCD took over and i got addicted so im teaching myself as i go.
as far as my finished theme...i think im ready for its initial launch....i just need to create the update.zip now with the modified rosie.apk, htccontacts.apk and phone.apk...care to do some file signing for me?

oh yeah...since u are familiar with xml....i removed the slider above rosie because i didnt know how to take the curve out....is that a xml edit so i can place that back in?

Lol i know what you mean. Im the same way. I would help with the signing but my pc is down atm. I should have a new desktop in a few days so i can help then. My own projects are at a stand still because of my crashed pc. Sucks. If you put the slider back in it will re-appear with the curve. Easiest thing to do is make it transparent. Itll still be there but it wont be visible.

yeah thats how i have it now.....so it doesnt show...but id love for the slider to go straight across...i was hoping it was an xml thing and u had a solution...no worries...cant wait to get this done....
im thinking instead of just making a transparent lockscreen im going to do some stuff there too....
my question is...do i need to make mods to all the programs that use the lockscreen i.e. music,phone,etc.?

androidupdate.tar includes
-complete updates for polymod eclair 2.1g wifi and full market.
-Most apps are themed but still a work in progress.
-HelixLauncher included with stock Launcher
-lcd.density = 150 in build.prop I use this for 320x428 nbh. Adjust your build.prop accordingly for your resolution. 160 for 320x480 and 110 or 120 for 240x320. Make sure to use an eclair nbh from http://ponack.net/poly/BT_Update/index.php?folder=S2Fpc2VyX05CSHMvRWNsYWly/
Just as an understanding I did not create any of this so thank those who did, polyrithmic for the eclair build, cloverdale for the wonderful theme, and to everyone else who has helped me along the way

give me a couple of days there are still a couple spots im not happy with once I can get them then I will be happy to give a link. I was hoping this thread would spawn a little more creativity amongst the kaiser users. There is a ton going on over on the vogue threads with theming for donut would like to see some of that here for eclair.

I figured I'd let you know the download link works fine for me. Thanks for taking the time to post this and send me the links. I probably will not get a chance to mess with it until Saturday. I will definitely let you know how it goes. Thanks again.

Since we're on 2.1D now, what effect does the wifi and market part of the update have on the system, specifically will it 'downgrade' the new settings? Just for the sake of compatibility.
I may just install the theme, see how that goes and get back to you.

hey i know you said to adjust the resolution through the build.prop file. but how do i edit it? i opened it in the notepad, but it wouldnt save the change?

The first update is based off of Poly's 2.1g Dark, I didn't know of any 2.1D but will check on it. I imagine it would work with his 2.1g plain as well. The update includes the wifi fix and market update that he has posted on his thread I just put them into one package for user friendliness.

Here are links to different resolutions, just install the correct androidupdate you need 320 has lcd.density set at 160 and 420 is set at 150 make sure it gets named properly to androidupdate.tar before trying to install

so i don't know if its just me or what, but is it smoother now or is it just me? haha. but heres my OPINION, don't take it the wrong way. but..
i thinkyou should just keep the signal bars and battery bars the same just make them blue? with a white outline maybe? and then the helix icon to scroll up the menu is nice, but is there anything different we can change it to? lastly, is there anyway to make the lock bar blue too? hahah just wondering

The Theme is designed for donut, I made it work on eclair, it does seem to run a bit smoother that may be due to the png's being smaller. As I get time I am trying to get a few of the things you suggested worked in, I don't like the dots, and I might be able to change the helix icon to the original only blue its a little tricky though.
There are a couple other things I am working on ATM and once I am done with those I will probly get back to theming. This is actually my very first theme / contribution to the community.

market?
so this is probably a quick fix, but when i was trying to download apps from market, it says start downloading, but it won't go any further then that. i've tried resetting a couple of times but it hasn't had any affect. any ideas?

Just a quick note on changing build.prop or in fact any system file, you must run 'rwsystem' (from console/teminal emulator ), before editing, this makes the system read/write rather than it's normal readonly state, after editing run 'rosystem' to return to normal.
I prefer editing system files using the built in nano editor, since i'm used to it. Not tried editing from gui so ymmv

Were you able to download from the market before, maybe a reboot will help if you haven't done it already. I'll double check again over the weekend to make sure it works for me right now I am working on a full nand install of a 2.1 sense build.
edit: Somehow I missed poly's update to 2.1D some things in this theme may not work correctly on that build due to all of his updates. Once I get squared away at home this weekend I will look into creating several different themes for that build.

yeah oddly enough i was. i tried resetting a couple of times, and even taking out the battery. i sometimes have wifi problems with the market but everything else works fine with wifi. its odd..
