well i give up. i rooted my friends evo awhile back for him and now he want's it back to stock cause he never uses the power of the root. it is on 2.2. i have the RUU_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.26.651.6_Radio_2.15.00.07.28_NV_1.40_release_140444_signed. his say the same thing except it's .5 not sure if this makes a difference. i have been through at least 150 different threads and tried about as many ways to get this done. what i'm doing is plugging the phone in. run the ruu. go through the menus until it hangs at accessing bootloader. unplug phone per most instructions (though i have tried it with not unplugging also.) restart ruu. run through all menus. goes past bootloader hang up. at this point it looks like it's doing things but there is no progress bar on the phone like in some of the pics i've seen at this step. then i get an error pertaining to the bootloader. phone reboots...all fail. what am i missing? i've been at this for a combined 7ish hours with no luck. i've seen people ask about this but the ways they were resolved aren't workin for me for some reason. any ideas? thanks in advance
edit: correct if this is wrong but the .6 update came before .5 ? so i'm tryin to flash backwards which isn't an option. so i need to use the 3.7?
nevermind got it just had reflash the same exact rom as the one that was on there. funny they never tell you that and i didn't pay attention to the order in which they were released. i'm a jackass
Can you just updates from the newest spring over the air update?
I spend quite a bit of time here on the forums, just don't do a lot of posting.
I'm trying to update my sister's Evo. It's a stock evo, it's never been rooted and so of course is running the stock rom. It's still running froyo. As I was doing some research on my Thunderbolt a few weeks ago I learned that the evo had gotten gingerbread before we did.
I checked her phone and it hadn't updated. I searched for an update and it told me that there was one, but she suddenly had to go so I hit cancel insted of telling it to install.
When I went back to the update section, and searched, it says "No Update Found" or however the exact wording is. I've spent a lot of time searching for a way to force the update or use an RUU like I would with a custom rom but in a stock version, but nothing I've found is for a stock phone.
I tried the basic stuff, rebooting, pulling the battery and holding the button to drain power, waiting a few days, none of which has done any good. So how can I got about either forcing the phone to recognize it needs an update, or downloading the update from the computer, without wiping the phone clean?
The update isn't worth enough to her to wipe her data and then have to go about restoring it and there's really no other advantage to rooting that she would use.
Was the update downloaded onto the phone?

It's possible that it could have run in the background later or the next day but between the time I told it to find the update and the time I told it not to install, it was seconds, maybe 15 20 seconds at the most. And I checked a couple times right after that and couldn't find evidence of data transferring in the background.
I'm thinking possibly it created the filename that the OTA checks for, but it's just an empty file. So when it checks for the update it see it, even though there's not much more to it than a file name.
I just felt sure that I can't be the first person to have this problem. But the closest thing I've found similar was a problem with an evo shift and the user was going to a custom rom anyway so a real solution wasn't ever given.
If its rooted, check the cache folder for the update and delete it. You can only see in the folder if you are rooted but you may be able to do a file search and find it without being rooted I believe, don't remember. The only problem is you can't delete it unless you are rooted. Either way it will be in that folder. What I would do is try to make a recovery file that will load upon restarting and just delete it from the folder then after just turn on the phone, doing it that way doesn't need root.

First off, hi again XDA.
Second, I've been having this problem for a while now... One day, I was working on something and I was running Team PSYCHO's JB ROM (...or someone close to that name) and all of a sudden my phone said "Shutting Down..." and turned off. I went home, plugged it in, left it charging for about three or four hours. I go to turn my phone back on and find out it's lagging out all the way. I thought it was just a root issue that happened because no matter how many times I attempted to take the battery out and restart it, it didn't want to stop lagging. I wiped the cache, almost everything (I didn't wipe the /system because I wanted to get something off there if I could, and yeah....that didn't turn out so well.) So, I go to unroot my phone and find a PGIMG32 file from XDA that everyone was using, just to be denied by my phone saying that the radio/firmware is higher than the one trying to be installed, aborting, so-on-and-so-forth. Tried doing CM9, lag. Tried going back to the JB ROM, lag-city. Decided to go to CM7, it worked fine (for the most part, still had some lag here and there.)
So, I switched back to MIUI and Venom (I now use the Venom wiper everytime I switch a ROM) to find out that those two were still laggy. Currently, I am sitting on MIUI and I am going to try that INC2 respiratory that someone put up (100% forgot the name, but saw the thread.)
My question is, does anyone know how to get rid of this lag?
Thanks again.
P.S. I don't get an upgrade until March, so if it could just last me out until then.

Try connecting your phone to your PC, mounting as disk drive so the PC reads the card and not your phone. If the lag goes away then it could be something with the SD card maybe. Don't unroot yet before researching. Be sure you are checking md5 before flashing to ensure a good download. If you narrow down to a SD issue, remove any files you need, and wipe and reformat the card.

Hey there guys!
So I'm having a bit of a situation with my Nexus 5. It is a first production run as I ordered it the hour it came out.
Today it started having HUGE issues. This is a few days after I downloaded Marshmallow 6.0. The device would shut down and then go into a boot loop for HOURS. Sometimes it'd start back up fine and be usable for a few minutes, but then shutting down and becoming unusable. Sometimes it'd start up and the "Optimizing Apps" screen would come up as if I had just made an Android upgrade, and it would complete after some minutes and become usable until it restarted again.
The phone "seems to be working" now OK. This thread is gonna be a bit multi-faceted, so sorry for asking so much :/ Just having a situation with my phone I want to remedy.
First, I'm looking for a good unrooted backup program I can use to backup the stuff on my phone to my computer or somewhere else. I want it in case I get the phone working again or I get a new android and want to transfer stuff over. Is it possible to move data from one backup to a new phone? Not sure. Either way, just looking for a good backup program I can use, if anyone can recommend me one.
Second, besides the obvious possibility of Marshmallow messing my phone up, a lot of people say it could have to do with a "stuck internal power button" and that "smacking the phone against a hard surface near the camera" could help. This seems mega sketchy, but at this point Im willing to do it after a backup. Does this solution have any merit or is it, as we say, "bulls***"?
Third, is there any possible way to remedy a bootloop software-side?
Thank you!
Since you are talking about downloading 6.0, and don't mention the N5X, I'm assuming you are in the wrong forum
That said:
You can run backups with adb (search for "adb backup"), without root. Just need adb debugging turned on in Android. This will also let you restore apps.
I've always used Titanium or a custom recovery myself, so I'm not familiar with the whole process.
I think you can clear the cache in the stock recovery too - might help? Fastboot & TWRP would offer more options, of course.
No idea on the stuck button theory - hopefully mods move this over so N5 veterans can you help out.
Thanks for the help!
To be perfectly honest, I didn't even know a Nexus 5X existed until now :$ Sorry for posting in the wrong forum, thought the X just stood for some production run number. My bad!
OK guys, long read but I really need some advice. Device is op3 running 3.2.8, magisk, phh superuser and exposed. Issue started while I was reading in news app, screen froze the the phone reboots. 1st time this has happened since I got the phone in June. Didn't think much if it. So I go back to reading in same app and after 5 min it happens again. Now I'm suspecting an issue. So I try one more time with same result. I figure an app update or something must be the problem so I reboot to TWRP(latest official version) and restore my last backup from the previous day. I boot up the phone and decide to just try some browsing. About 5 mins in, it freezes again, but doesn't reboot. I have to hold power to get it to reboot. So now I boot into twrp and decide to try a clean flash, I go to factory reset and I got error message can't mount system or cache. This worries me so I try rebooting to recovery to try again and it will not boot into recovery or system now all I get is fastboot. I have to work the next day so I just put device away and go to bed. The next morning I check the phone and it boots into system no problem. About halfway through work the phone starts all over again with same issue freezing and rebooting until only fastboot works. So I try unbrick tool, everything says OK I boot up and immediately freezes and after a couple boots I can again only get to fastboot. So I start RMA and send device off, when I get it back, the paper says they reloaded the OS. I think well its probably not fixed but I'll try it. I go through process of setting everything up as it was before and it worked fine. Until the fourth day, I'm installing an app and it freezes and reboots. Then exact same story as before, the longer I mess with it the less functional it gets, if I let it sit overnight it will work a while the next day. I have tried all the different twrp versions as well as stock recovery, I have tried other ROMs also, everything ends with same result. So I resubmitted the RMA and now I am waiting to get it back again, but I'm afraid all they are doing is reinstalling the OS again. So anyone experience anything like this before or have any suggestions/ideas what is happening. Thanks for reading and for any help provided.

"I'm installing an app and it freezes and reboots"... What app were you installing, specifically?
I put my trust in XDA devs more than OnePlus devs, so... I suggest you flash FreedomOS. It's based on OxygenOS, but... tinkered by a very cool French guy . Oh, flash ElementalX kernel, too. Always better than stock. You never know

Thanks for the reply! The last time that it froze, i was installing firefox from playstore. One of the ROMs I tried was freedom with elemental. It seems no matter what ROM I would flash, device would only work so long before freezing up, the main thing that seemed to matter was how long I waited before booting again, the longer I waited the longer I could use it before freezing up again.

Interesting...
Okay, this may sound weird, but try using the phone without the SIM card in it for a while, see if it freezes up. Or, get the SIM card replaced (if you can). Back when I had the HTC EVO 3D, the phone would lock up at times. Wasn't ROM related, as I experimented heavily with it and... eventually, it turned out to be the SIM card's fault. The guy at the store said he experienced that several times with other customers, but it's an extremely rare occurance. Some bad pin or God knows what. That was 4 years ago (actually, 5. Jesus! ).
Sounds hard to believe, I know. But you never know
Still, I believe there may be something wrong with your device's hardware. Try RMA'ing it again - if you dare going through the process again and risk having to deal with OnePlus' extremely lacking customer service several times a day, like I did .
PS: I see you're new here. You should know that there's a "thanks" button next to each post, which you can press so you don't post a single "Thanks!" every time. For the future, you know.

Good to know, I actually considered the sim. I've been using it since my HTC onex. Might try that when I get device back, however it is working in my opo as we speak. You mentioned you've going through rma before. Any advice on how to get them to take a different action other than continuing to reload the os?

No idea, honestly. The RMA I did was for a replacement, since it was within 14 days of purchase, so I got to choose to get a replacement. Should have chosen the refund, wait another month and get the 3T... had I known it was going to be released. Oh well.
In your case... I guess you can do another RMA and hope for a better intervention. Perhaps explain to them... more thoroughly? Or just go with the flow - they'll reload the OS, you'll report the same issue again... Maybe they replace it, I don't know.
Interesting that they did the OS reloading IN SERVICE. Usually, this procedure is done via remote control... So they don't have to pay for shipping when such a thing can be done via a remote session, you know... Weird.
