I am apparently an idiot when it comes to attempting to do anything.
I cannot get my phone out of fastboot.
I am ****ed.
I need my phone to work.
This has become a 72 hour nightmare.
So here goes:
If I start the phone with CAMERA+POWER held down I get the following:

FASTBOOT
<CAMERA STEP2> HBoot Mode
<SEND> Reset Device
<ACTION> Restart to HBoot
<MENU> Power Down
If I start the phone with HOME+POWER held down for approx 15-20 seconds I get the following:
[Home+Back] Reboot system now
[Alt+B] Nandroid v2.2 backup
{Tons of other options}
Welcome
Build : RA-dream-v1.2.3
I have tried to install the RC29 firmware from the sdcard via the [Alt+S] Apply sdcard:update.zip but get the following response EVERY TIME!!! (I have been through this on 2 different sd cards now!)
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0)
(Invalid Argument)
Can't mount sdcard
I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING. I AM STUCK. I AM VERY ****ING UNHAPPY. I FOLLOWED A GUIDE TO RUN A MODDED ROM TO AN ABSOLUTE T. NOW I AM ****ED. PLEASE HELP. AND THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR TREATING ME LIKE A **** AND SAYING I AM AN IDIOT. WE ALL KNEW THAT ALREADY AS I HAD AFOREMENTIONED.

[Q] Phone Stuck on HTC screen

I was running CM7 nightly 38 and everything was fine until my gps was not working so i tried to reboot it got stuck on the boot screen so then i tried to do a restore to an earlier nightly and now i get stuck on the HTC screen i can still get into the CW recovery but i dont know what to do help please
Edit : i dont know if this will help but i also get the error when i restore

And when i try to wipe Dalvik cache it also says unknown volume for path [/sd-ext]
It appears this is happening quite a bit lately. I too am plagued with this issue.
No help well can anyone answer this is it possible to unroot s-off the phone through clockworkrecovery mod so i can return for warrenty
Edit : Wondering what would happen if i did reset to factory in hboot would that make things even worse? i dont want to do it unless i get some information
hey man
don't worry so much your phone seems to be fine
just go and reflash your rom or flash a fresh rom
for example, go dl the stable version of CM and flash that instead~
hope this works
and btw when you flash a new rom, you want to wipe everything meaning wipe to factory settings
i have tried flashing a new rom to no avail it get stuck on htc boot screen i keep getting the cant mount cache error when doing things i think it might be the problem but thanks for the response
i was trying this method http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/15623-how-to-fix-a-semi-bricked-g2/#entry175839
But im stuck on one part
~ # dd if=/sdcard/misc.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p17

Did you use Rage/gfree to root your phone? Then you should be able to flash PC10IMG.zip again. goodluck
i used Rage for the perm root im pretty sure. But how will i flash this PC10IMG.zip?
put it in my zip file then restart phone? I think ive read not to do this as it will certainly Brick you phone

You have to hex edit... because the PC10IMG.zip is older and you would need a newer version. I used unforgivens way of s-off and I would always have to hex edit, so my phone won't be semi-brick when I flash the orginal PC10IMG. Anyways am to to sure how to use ADB...

[Q] (Q) Issues with flashing etc on Desire

Well, I have rooted my phone with unrevoked it installed the recovery mod 2.5.0.7 and I'm a bout to flash my phone. Thing is though I've been here for a while.
The story goes like this.. Relatively chronological..
I download HBOOT drivers install them on my Windows 7 64bit. I then download and run unrEVOked3, hook up my phone and choose charge only. unrevoked3 does it's thing and everything seems fine. I partition the SDcard with 6,5gb fat32 and 1gb ext4. Then i go into recovery i then go to wipe data/factory reset and chose it. Then i cant find dalvik data at first but i later find it, so i wipe that. Then I chose to install zip from sdcard which earlier moved. The InsertCoin A2SD+ 1.0.9 mod.
It starts up finds the file and starts flashing or so it seems.
It stops, and I cant remember the error message. So, I go searching cant really find anything except the fact that I should have wiped cache partitions also.. So I go back do a full wipe again and run it.
Then I get this error message: ( i tried again with a Cyanogen mod, and i got assert_failed write_raw_image...)
- assert failed: Package_extract_file("boot.img","/tmp/boot.img")
E: Error in /sdcard/InsertCoin_GB_Sense2.1_A2SD+_1.0.9.zip
(status 7)
Installation aborted..
I then find the baadnwz irc and ask for help there.. repartition my sdcard with gparted, and run through it all again...
Same error..
I then notice that CWMR is saying:
E: Cant fint MISC:
E: Cant mount Cache:recovery/command
E:Cant find misc:
E:Cant mount cache:recovery/log
E: cant fin misc:
I ask if this is normal, NO, is the clear answer i get.. so i test different things, new repartition correct sized and everything..
Still same..
Then I go and download the Froyo RUU and install it reset everything (of course i forgot to sync my contacts..) and i do everything from the top root, cwrm and try flashing but the same errors are still there..
So i then create this thread hoping that this error already isnt here after search.. And hoping someone can help me..?
I'm running the HTC Desire on HBOOT 0.93.0001, radio 5.11.05.27.
Worst thing is no matter how many times i wiped the different things no changes were made on the phone, when i rebooted i still got up my original bckgrnd image and everything...
So, what is going on?
It might be worth watching a few vids and reading a few guides. Here's a start http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016084. Also, don't worry. I messed up too when I first started to root and flash.
I can't remember what the status 7 error is and how to fix it. Think it's just to re-download the rom and try again.
If you have PVT4 device, you need to use AmonRA recovery.
I guess you're S-ON? If S-OFF try recovery from my sig.
Ironically I have used the tutorial in the development forum.. Used all the videos i could find, except s-off cause i was told i didnt have to do that when i was just flashing a new ROM..
How do i know if i have a pvt4 device?
edit: i found out.. im a pvt4 device..
Then root again, download recovery from my sig unpack .img and choose "custom recovery" in unrevoked and select it.
You can also use AmonRA recovery.
Or if you don't want to root again, S-OFF and flash new recovery in fastboot.
I don't really understand why they made CWM default recovery in unrevoked, people have so many issues with it. :-(

Somehow, installing alpharev and s-offing the phone, and then installing a new recovery helped me. Im now running cyanogen 7 om my phone

Unrooting and reverting back to stock ROM and recovery image

need to exchange the phone, so i need to revert the phone back to fully stock. phone currently has cyanogenmod 7. just want to make sure i'm doing this right...
so as i understand it, following the g2\desire z wiki, i can just use clockword mod recovery to install the stock image and flash it with CWM right, via the "flash alternate recovery" option?
and more importantly, the wiki says that to install the stock rom, i need to make sure my main version is not higher than 1.19.531.1, but i was not able to find my version. i booted into hboot, which number is that? and regardless, if i use misc_version to set the main version, does it matter what version i have? also, i used gfree to root before, and still have the original partition 7 saved on my pc, if that matters. thanks
Here follow my guide, it describes how to return to stock. Only change you might want to make is use a proper stock rom to flash instead of my modded ones.
-Nipqer
thanks! how do you flash stock recovery???
i did fastboot recovery recovery.img and it said:
"sending 'recovery' (4652 KB)... OKAY [1.021 S]
writing 'recovery'... FAILED <remote: not allowed>
finished. total time : 1.031s
Fastboot flash recovery only works on eng hboots or htcdev unlocked hboots.

so then what can i do? thanks again
Use the xda wiki to get full root. That will give you recovery in the process

Similar-sounding problem
I've attempted to install ClockworkMod and CM7 on my G2 with Gingerbread 2.3.4, and have wound up putting it in a semi-bricked state. (Whole process went fine on my old G2 last year, but had to return that due to a wifi problem). Here's what I've done so far:
1. Started the root/CW process (http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/TMobile_G2:_Rooting). Once I got to the psneuter step, I got "Failed to set prot mask (innappropriate ioctl for device)", which I figured meant I needed to do the downgrade, since that was the only difference I could see between my new G2 and the old one (which had Froyo when I went through this process).
2. Downgraded to Froyo (http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Desire_Z:_Firmware_Downgrade_(Froyo). That seemed to go just fine.
3. Re-did the root/CW process. That also seemed to go just fine, until I rebooted into CW, at which point I got:
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/command
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
At this point, attempting to select any of the items in the CW menu just showed the hat-with-ring logo, no text. I figured I must have screwed something up, and decided I'd best roll back to stock (I'd just done that on my old G2, so I could send it in, and that process had also worked fine).
4. Rolled back to the original PC10IMG.zip (http://theunlockr.com/2010/12/01/how-to-unroot-the-t-mobile-g2-htc-vision/ but without the OTA part). When I rebooted, I got the green-on-white "HTC" screen, for at least 10 minutes. Retried several times. Using power-volumedown, I could still get into recovery, which was still Clockwork, but with the same errors as in step 3. I could still connect via ADB (when in Clockwork) and get a root shell with that, at this point.
5. Big goof: I decided I should rollback to stock recovery. Did that using the http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=834545 guide. Rebooted. Phone still sticks at the initial HTC screen, forever. Using power-volumedown, I can get to the screen whose name I do not know, the one that's white with three skateboarding androids at the bottom, and the "Fastboot, Recovery, Factory Reset, Simlock, System Info, Image CRC" menu.
6. Recovery now takes me to what I presume is stock recovery, which has a "E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/command" message at the bottom of the screen. Menu is "Reboot system now, Apply sdcard:update.zip, Wipe data/factory reset, Wipe cache partition." Factory reset and wiping the cache partition, then rebooting, still results in the eternal HTC screen.
7. If I do reboot and do power-volumedown to get back to the three-skateboards screen (someone please tell me the actual name, so that I can sound like less of an idiot), I can select fastboot, and then connect via fastboot-windows. I haven't done anything with that yet, however, as I figured I've gone too far already without stopping to ask for help, and don't want to cut myself from off from fastboot the way I cut myself off from adb.
Right now, I just want to get the phone to a usable state again. Not expecting any hand-holding, but I'd appreciating someone pointing me to the start of the path back.
...the three skateboards screen is called bootloader
is it still s-off and what hboot-number does it show?
At the top of the bootloader (thanks!) screen, I get:
VISION PVT ENG S-OFF
HBOOT-0.84.2000 (PC1010000)
MICROP-0425
RADIO-26.01.00.17_M2
eMMC-boot

ok, this looks good.
first i would flash a recovery.img through fastboot (you do have eng hboot so it should work)
download the 3.0.2.4 image from here and put it into your platform tool folder:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wik...sion#Rooting_the_Vision_.28G2.2FDZ.29_and_DHD
then connect your phone to pc go to your platform tool folder and type:
"fastboot flash recovery recovery.img"
enter recovery and wipe data&cache&dalvik cache afterwards flash a new rom...
if you get the same error as before, have a look here:

Thanks immensely. Going to try this in the morning (hitting 2am for me). Just one final question: at the "flash a new ROM" step, should that be the stock T-Mobile ROM, or does it matter? My original intent was to install CM, so if it makes no difference I'll go with that, but right now I'd be happy just to have a phone that boots, so if I need to I'll use stock and count my blessings.

damnit... now i can't seem to downgrade the new phone, with the 1.22 firmware. following the cyanogenmod wiki, at the step where you enter:
Code:
/data/local/tmp/fre3vo -debug -start FAA90000 -end FFFFFFFF
adb shell
i get a whole bunch of:
Code:

nope, it's android version 2.2, but the build number is 1.22.531.8, so that means i have to downgrade it, right?
you need a different guide for a froyo downgrade - try this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905261
i´m not sure if it works... other thing you could do is make a official update to gingerbread and then downgrade with the guide you used before.

Installed clockwork, and can get to it through the bootloader. However, when I try to wipe the cache -- or select any of the other menu items -- I just get the hat-and-ring logo, with nothing else. Power button takes me back to the CW menu again. No error messages at any stage, but nothing happens either.
Should I proceed with the steps in the second link you pointed to? Or does this sound like a different problem?
Hm don't know... Maybe try to find out if your cache is corrupted or your emmc chip. So yes follow the link i posted, but before you do the same as the op there (means using your sdcard instead of emmc) try everything else... (i think nipqer posted a link there related to corrupted cache...)
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Thankfully, I didn't have to go through hardly any of the contortions CollegeBound had to in that thread. Installing 4EXT was enough -- it was able to get past the "E:Can't mount /cache/..." errors (which started again when I used fastboot to erase the cache), whereas Clockwork was stymied by them. Did an update using a CM ROM, and everything seems fine.
Thanks again for your help. I don't think T-Mobile would have let me RMA two phones in two weeks.

[Q]+1 A100 bricked

Hello forum Seniors
I have a problem with my a100 device, I searched for days a solution, but had no success.
I bought this device with original HC and updated with ACER_AV041_A100_0.002.00_ww_GEN1 ICS rom, to this point everything working.
everything worked, boot recovery/gps/games/ics/ everything
And I used it for a long time. Then I reseted the device.
And the problem began.
the device does not turn over.
I can START fastboot, but it dont sync with pc (I got drivers instaled)
I can START recovery, but dont install nothing ( I think my recovery is damaged)
I hope that there is a solution. But have not found any yet.
my recovery does not install or mount sdcard and external sd
when I enter, I see a red triangle with a dead android
I PRESS HOME key and recovery list this

That's recovery. Its saying recovery doesn't exist. If you can wait for a bit I'm working on fixing this but its going slow as some people aren't as clear about whats happening as you are, I was chasing a fix that didn't even need fixing, thank you. Its either something different and new, or its something thats been happening this whole time, but no one mentioned the error output aside from the update.zip failure.
I'll begin work on this new issue, and hopefully it can be fixed with the rest. The other devices seem to have recovery, however it seems it only works in CWM or TWRP, you seem to have stock recovery. I would suggest maybe trying to install CWM from HERE. Follow the instructions exactly and see if you can flash the CWM recovery and get into that. Please report back if this works or not, and what happens when you try.

Your english is fine, don't worry
Ok, so previously mmcblk0p1 was NOT found, now it IS found? Well thats better then nothing. I've seen this on another device, though it was cache that was mounting and not mounting at almost random times.
I've been tracking this as far as I can, and it appears the A100 shares an issue with the A500 (and maybe A200?) that results in a bad sector(s) and must be partitioned around. If this is the actual cause, its a hardware failure, not software, and isn't anything you did, it just died.
This explains the string of bricks that seem to occur out of nowhere.
My original method was to DD a working image to the device, completely restoring the partition with a clone of my working system, cache, recovery, etc. However if its a damaged EMMC, this will not work either. This also explains why past attempts have failed on other devices that I've tried helping with off the forum.
As I can emulate a "bricked" device, I don't have a device with this actual issue to diagnose and attempt to fix, my device doesn't have this problem. I'm not real sure I can proceed much farther until either my device does this bad sector thing, or I get my hands on a device that is already bricked and begin finding the method to repair it.
Ok..now dealing with what DOES work...
==========================================================
Android system recovery <3e>
Android system recovery utility
reboot system now
apply update from external storage
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
apply update from cache
=========================================================
have you tried selecting any of these options? Highlight with volume, and hit power to select, try from
apply update from external storage and record what it says (hopefully it just installs and your're good to go)
then
apply update from cache and again record what it says, hopefully it works fine.
then
wipe data/factory reset and again record what it says
then
wipe cache partition and record what it says
Do these in the order I mentioned, only doing the next if it fails. If it does install, don't do the rest, just report back success and what you did, in the order you did it, to get it going again.
Edit: Oh and reboot after each selection if it fails, and reboot into that menu again.
This is the problem, can't select any option
I select a option with VOLUME key, put cursor on apply updade from external storage so i hit power
And nothing happens.
If i hold power, device force power off...
Power key work perfect, only in recovery dont work...
Thank you
My friend have the same device with the same update 0.002.0_WW_GEN1, his device work normaly, when i go into recovery, I cant select any option too
I think if i reset his device, this cant boot to...i dont try it
I can upload video in youtube for you, if it help u see my case.
Ok, if power doesn't work on either device, try the home button. It's been so long since I ran stock recovery I may have gotten the buttons mixed up with CWM recovery, which uses Power as Enter. And good call on not doing anything on the other device, you never know. It shouldn't cause issues, but just in case, don't. We don't know exactly what is causing this, and if its anything like the hardbrick bug in some Samsung devices, anything can trigger it if it happens in the right order or time.
pio_masaki
Recovery does not select options when press power /home/reset/volumes
I need a guide for use EUUs_SBK rom, I have my CPUID
And in my friend's device, how i back to original hc?
Recovery have the same problem does not intall update.zip, if I install the CWM, Can I do official update to back original state? I really need back to factory rom and recovery.
Thank you for help
If the device is having issues, I wouldn't suggest going back to HC, it can only cause more problems. If you run the official update.zip it returns back to how it came from Acer, stock recovery, locked bootloader and unrooted stock ICS.
The EUU and SBK stuff has been attempted before and failed. Its in various threads with the same bricking issues, and doesn't seem to help, or work. At this point I think NVFLash is about the only option we have left to try to bring these back from a bricked state. Sadly Acer decided to try to lock out NVFLash, so it'll take some time to see if it will work with our A100s. Vache has the NVFlash config files, so its a start, it may work it may not, however I can't test much as my device doesn't have this bricking issue, so any testing on my a100 doesn't really mean anything.
I've actually looked around locally for a bricked a100 to see if I can get and begin working on a method to repair it, but either there are none locally bricked, or none are up for sale (sent back to Acer for repair).
I'm working on it, but I have a couple roadblocks preventing me from really trying, time, and no bricked device.
Ok doing some more digging around, I've come across a thread with some posts that seem to lead me to believe that (non stock) our bootloaders don't respond to the correct SBK, mine doesn't either, and I think it's because our method for unlocking the bootloader uses the A200 bootloader, which will NOT accept the SBK, even if correct, because its wrong for that bootloader.
This leaves out NVFlash, it can't authenticate with the bootloader so it gets blocked, so while it would fix the bricks (outside of hardware failure) it's not an option for us until we find out the correct SBK for our bootloaders.
For those on stock, the update.zip failures seem to be common, however I have a few things for you to try (I think you're stock ICS right?)
download this update.zip
Its ICS 014, should work.
It seems people had issues with it working because it originally came encrypted, and had to be decrypted to work. If it wasn't, you got update.zip not found or various other errors like you did. Thanks to azmode for this.
Take your external SD card, insert it into your PC however you can, and format it FAT32. Before doing this, copy any and all files you wish to keep safe to the PC as this will erase the card completely. If your card reader has a light, wait for it to stop flashing before moving on.
Take the update.zip file you downloaded and place it on the card. Nothing else, no folders or pics or music or anything else. Again wait for the activity light to stop for a few seconds BEFORE hitting eject. Also verify the file is named update.zip nothing else, and not update.zip.zip which can sometimes happen. All lowercase letters.
Once that is done make sure the tablet is OFF, completely, not sleeping but off. Leave it off for at least 30 seconds (or if its been off the whole time don't worry about it) then insert the SD card. Hold Volume Down (closest to lock switch) then press and hold Power and hold for about 3 seconds until the text FIRST comes up, immediately release the buttons as soon as you see any text coming up.
This should once again attempt to read update.zip from the external sd card, and hopefully finds it, or gives a different error then before.
These instructions aren't much different from before, as various other users have outlined this procedure before, in particular blackshinobi who has spent alot of time on the bricked threads.
That update.zip should be decrypted which should allow it to pass the bootloader checks. I think this is where some of the issue is coming from, its that stupid bootloader encryption blocking even valid attempts to restore the tablet to working condition or updating.
If anyone is willing, could they pull their 100% official stock bootloader and stick it somewhere to play around with? Or, I suppose, someone with a 100% official stock ICS system try NVFlash on their system and see if it allows or gives permission denied? If the 100% official still denies, then our SBK generation is wrong, if it does, then its our bootloaders, and we can attempt to fastboot flash the correct bootloader to pass SBK for EUU.
Have you a alternative link? For update.zip

Did you ever have any luck getting your tablet running again?
It looks like I am having the same issue as you are. with a couple of minor variations. I've tried all the recommendations in this thread and the ones linked from here but I'm not making any progress. I fear there is nothing I can do and that the device is now a fancy brick does anyone have any other ideas on getting this fixed?
1. When I boot to recovery, get to the dead Android I see the following messages in yellow
E:Can't open /dev/block/mmcblk0p5 (No such file or directory)
E:failed to mount /cache (No such file or directory)
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/command

Those errors have been identified as a dead emmc, which is currently unrecoverable. And is happening on quite a few of iconia's. This thread was prior to the devs and users finding thee issue. See all the brick threads here.

I PRESS HOME key and recovery list this
Android system recovery <3e>
Android system recovery utility
reboot system now
apply update from external storage
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
apply update from cache

Well this isn't a forum for that device, and not being familiar with it I can only guess. mmcblk1p1 is usually external SD card, if one is inserted, remove it, if one is not, insert one. See what it does on each try. It may be internal SD card too, hard to say since I don't know that device, although a link to it's recovery.fstab would help there, or just /system/etc/vold.fstab.
Sorry,
I'm one concept

[Q] noob help, phone stuck in fastboot menu

Let me start off by saying I'm an old man and I need some help from you whipper snappers. I am such a noob at the phone thing, and have been reading and searching threads for three days to no avail.
Ok. my wife dropped her phone in the washer so we ordered her a new one just like the old one. It came with the 2.1 version of the software. She couldn't download any apps that she needed (no Google play store) so I went searching for how to install the update manually.
Found the update.zip file and put it on the SD card then rebooted the phone to the boot menu and ran the update.zip now the phone only boots to the fastboot menu.
I tried to do a recovery and a factory reset and can access everything in the fastboot menu.
So I thought just go follow the guide and root the phone and then remembered usb debugging is off
Then I went and found a RUU file and ran it with the same result.
Since then I have tried many different RUU files froyo, gingerbread just to name a few as well as the PB31IMG for each .
I am just completely stuck here. I am somewhat computer literate
Ok I've done a little more digging and when I try to do a factory reset I get the error
"E: invalid command argument
E: cant mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 (or /dev/block/mmcblk1)
( no such file or directory)"
I'm also getting an error that says "E: can't open /cache/recovery/command"
Anybody?
did you atleast unlock your incredible and then root it successfully (s-off) before you tried going flashing anything?
did read this thread?
