All,
I've rebuild this rom from scratch over the past few weeks.
IMAGES COMING SOON
So, to the ROM:
As of now, the rom uses the Nexus One style Launcher 2, which runs incredibly quickly.
First of all, the battery should be better with this rom. I've modified some settings (such as scan intervals, etc) which should help the battery life. Please feed back on this.
WORKING LIST:
Gmail PUSH
Google NAV (Inside & Outside of the US)
Calls – perfectly
OpenGL 3D
Launcher 2 (Select Launcher instead of HOME on boot)
2G, 3G & HSDPA (inc. indicators)
Wifi
Bluetooth file transfer (yup!)
Network location
Accelerometer
Trackball & lighting of
LED indicator
GPS & AGPS
SOME Live wallpapers - Very few though
Gallery 3D
Market (all apps, inc protected)
Camera at 2-3mp
Keyboard with (accurate) Voice Search
Known Issues:
Camera above 3mp
Bluetooth Audio during calls
Facebook contact sync doesn’t work – as will all AOSP builds (there are plenty of apps on the market that’ll do this)
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Run a Nandroid backup
2. FULL WIPE
3. Flash Vanillain1.1
4. Flash Update1.1b (ESSENTIAL, AS IT INCLUDED GOOGLE STUFF!!!)
DOWNLOAD LINKS:
Vanillain 1.1 (4Shared)
Vanillain 1.1b Incremental
I work incredibly long hours on these roms. If you like my work, please consider making a small donation. Thank you for your support!
As I have neglected Vanillain dev quite a lot recently, I'd like to thank QR for his mini-update. Please see the quote below:
QuantumRand said:
I've put together a bit of an update for the Vanillain 1.1b ROM. It's in the form of an update.zip, and a wipe should not be necessary. You can update it on top of the current 11b-signed.zip, or in place of it on a fresh wipe of Vanillain 1.1.
Changes:
-Facebook Contact Sync Now Works (you might have to wait a few seconds for the account setup to launch)
-Camera Works at 5MP
-Tried to fix lag when recieving a call
-New Facebook widget
Bugs:
-Camera might cause Launcher2 to crash when exiting
-Other normal bugs in Vanillain 1.1
You can download the new update here: http://quantumrand.net/xda/vanillain/Vanillain_1.1c_update-signed.zip

Is it possible to get A2SD on this one?
Apps2SD is supported. I haven't tested it though, as I don't use it.

I just enabled via terminal, not sure if it was auto enabled anyway.
For those who need the commands
adb remount
adb shell apps2sd on
adb reboot

Digital Clock Widget - Free from the market
Awesome! Nice to see some progress on the 2.1 Vanilla front...
Feels like ages since the last update from either of the competing 2.1 ROMs here.
Will post my feedback here after some tests.
Sync to Exchange 2010 fine, but without callendar. This is for me the most important !!! (task too)
Hey Nathan, will you be only updating this ROM's graphics or will you also be updating it for bugs, fixes, and perhaps the camera problems too?

The ROM seems quick and stable. But after enabling A2SD and rebooting, it seems like the apps keep installing on phone.
Good one Nathan, no issues so far

Modified the boot.img with the Hero kernel and ramdisk, and successfully booted Cyanogen 4.0.4 on the HERO.
It's really fast and works pretty well actually, I'll try to fix the things that dosen't work.
Things that don't work right now:
• WiFi Fixed!
• Camera - Partially fixed, still som issues
• Camcorder - Same as with camera.
• Bluetooth
• Auto APN Fixed!
• Accelerometer (Screen rotation) Fixed!
Will upload it when I believe it's stable.
[UPDATE]
Got Cyanogen 4.0.1 for 32A running on the Hero. Still work in progress, have to fix the camera, bluetooth and accelerometer before I upload it for others to use.
[UPDATE 2]
Modified Cyanogen 4.0.4 (Donut Build) so that it boots on the Hero. Accelerometer works! Camera works but with very poor quality and only black and white, no colors. Still working on the bluetooth!
See attached photos
Very nice. Good that more custom roms comes to Hero!
This sounds great. I ran Cyanogen Mod on my Magic and was really impressed with it's performance, would be great to have it as an option for the Hero also.
Great stuff I would live to try this, I'm not really using all of the HTC stuff in the stock ROM, so a clean ROM sounds nice.

Would you mind sharing the ROM you installed (with modified boot.img for Hero) in an update.zip format (when you think it's stable enough, of course )?

sure thing, soon as I get the bluetooth and camera working, I'll upload it in a update.zip
Nice. Why 3.9.7 and not 4.0.4?
P
Accelerometer should be easy enough to fix (check the init for the service, you'll probably need the binary from /system/bin), but the Camera is a potentially a bit more tricky.

I added the akm8793 from the Hero /system/bin into the rom and changed akmd service line in the init. But in the logcat it says the akmd service can't instalize, but nothing else. The akmd is the accelerometer service in android.
Need some hints with the bluetooth and camera if anybody can help

all sounds very cool guys....shame not 4.0.4 or above though
Great work, mate! I'll be following this thread with interest now. It'd be great to have the cyanogen ROM running on the Hero, to really make the most out of it!

Already done that, still doesn't work :/ the camera, bluetooth and accelerometer services starts fine without any problems in the logcat during boot but it doesn't work when I try them.
I'll do some more research about these things...
Look at first page for update!
Wow, cool. May have to do a Nandroid backup and then give this one a try
Good luck with getting camera etc to work !
Great !! Can't wait to try it i don't really about camera as i don't use it. but bluetooth would be nice
Will give it a try once the camera is working properly. Also is GPS working?

what is the advantage of cyanogen compared to lets say google ion rom (which is also very fast and tiny)
I will keep this ROM updated, always help when I can, and open to suggestions that users may want implemented into the ROM. My goal is to keep the ROM Clean, Stable, with great performance without compromising battery life.
This ROM has had the following MODS
UNIFIED IS HERE! see post #2
Improved GPS
Ad blocking hosts file.
Super SU - FULL ROOT! Remember to grant andriod system root access on first boot!
Build prop mods
420 DPI - (sorry QHD users)
Thanks to Tantrums.
It does NOT flash recovery. So if you have TWRP 2.8.6.0 then it won't get replaced with OPPO recovery.
Removed Apps
Engineering mode
Google search
Google Drive
Hangouts
Google TTS
Chrome
Google mags
Google books
Glass lock screen
Facebook
Google music
IFly speech
Play games
More to come soon...
First of all download the ROM here and save it to your SD card
If you have stock recovery you will need to go into fastboot mode (hold power + vol up until the phone vibrates)
With you phone in fastboot boot and connected to USB (make sure you have installed oppo drivers) flash the TWRP img file.
Reboot the phone into recovery (Pwr + vol down)
In recovery select advanced wipe select everything except internal and external storage.
Then go to install and select the rom you have downloaded.
Enjoy.
I have found this to be a very stable/fast ROM with very few problems.

Battery life has improved a bit, but there is more free RAM available and less processes running in the background.
Here are the tweaks I have included.
Does the error notification (3 dots) is being repaired?
Im sorry if i am being annoying its just that i had this 2,0,3 beta from oppo, and i liked how it looked but it drained my battery like crazy.. ?

The only way to fix this is to change your launcher.

Yes i saw that, so i hope there isn't a problem here just did advance wipe and flashing it now i will be over in a sec..
EDIT:
It flashed perfect so far everything is fine no problems what so ever, however if i should point out one thing, it uses around 1gig of ram now, on my old 1.2.6i were i had deleted some stock apps it used about 790 - 810
So i used a bit more ram, i guess that the normal 2.0.3 uses even more..

Yeah, oppo's apps are a bit bigger, I was going to take them out of the image, but then there is no point on having ColorOS if I do that.
I would recommend to all users to uninstall unused apps. (for example oppo music eats ram) You might need rom toolbox app to help you with this.

Using Cm10.1 with data2sd
Hi Niks255,
Thanks for your work on wildfire s, I have been using your cm 10.1 on my wfs since its release with data2sd script.
Now, I really want to shift to your cm 10 for wfs as it is faster and smoother. Is there any way of doing this without loosing me apps as I have read on some threads that data2sd can mess with back-ups.
or it will be fine if I just make a back up and flash this cm 10 rom and restore back up ?
am sorry for the noob question, as you can see my name I am a really a noob in these stuff
thanks in advance

hi, how about battery life and deep sleep compared to 2.3.5 official? thanks for this great rom and debugging, you rock!
Hi, so I am running now your ROM for the third day and it is awesome! I see only some graphic bugs like when I tried to connetct to wifi, the form appear in status bar and one time i get lock screen somehow in status bar. Will it be solved? Otherwise its perfect ROM, I like it!
Well, im finally runnin this rom, int2extv2+ seems to be flawless than S2E (maybe i dont know how to setup, but int2extv2+ its a lot simplier than simple2ext, so its a bit taste of irony for me )
Things i like about this rom:
*Its smoothier and stable, at least more for every android4 roms that i have ever tried on the WFS
*It's like able to daily driver, cause of good RIL (atm dont find any RIL comedown)
*Android4! every WFS will need it for resurge like a phoenix from the ashes, its so cool, thanks for made it.
*Customizations!
Things i think probably work better on next builds
*Graphic glitches in the framework u.u
*Battery drain with screen on
*Touchscreen sensibility
ONE THING PLEASE, PLEASE HELP:
I can't overwrite gps.conf in this rom, im trying this patch [http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1239713], tried flashable zip over recovery [aborted error:0], tried adb push [error: cant copy files files/dir] and i've tried root explorer and modify it manually, i can read it but i cant write it, i have tried changing permissions with ES Explorer and none of these things works u.u
Sorry my english, is anybody out there?
Hi, ive done some research about the touchscreen issue and i have found some interesting probes, lets see:
Its marked my finger direction and where it comes buggy, maybe in newer versions it works properly so a touchscreen fix maybe could be ported from cm10.2 or cm11, if not please tell me how can i can help u!
Thanks for this rom, battery life with screen off is SUPERB and its great! i'm fascinated with this rom!
Hope it will be helpfully
PLEASE ANYONE COULD TELL ME IF A RIL (RADIO INTERFACE LAYER) IS PRESENT AFTER A FEW ACTIVATIONS/DEACTIVATIONS OF IT OR 2G/3G SWITCH?
Please, im facing this problem and i don't know if my friend just bugged something or its a bug on al cm-branched roms, or if anyone faced this and get some feedback to fix it, please i love this rom but this bug make it unusable for my dear friend...
Love u xda, hope anyone read this and help meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee D:
no problems with RIL here, what problems exactly are you having
also good work nik
i had a problem with TTS too but its relatesd to the Gapps thats used, you have to use full gapps to get the best experience
from here is what i used , gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Google_Apps
and do a full wipe in recovery
wipe factory reset / data
wipe system (advanced-Format system) (this helps on wildfire s for some reason)
- flash cm10 rom zip
- flash cronmod int2ext+
- flash gapps gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip
if this improves things for anyone else, let us know
hope this helps
also ive been getting russian text here and there
i think the reason might be, errors in build.prop
you have duplicate entries you have EN and RU
also they are incorrect and should be like so
British english
ro.product.locale.language=en
ro,producl.locale.region=GB
American usa
ro.product.locale.language=en
ro,producl.locale.region=US
you have it incorrect
=ru, =ru
and
=en,=en

Also, our Korean developer ported Fancy Kernel r60 for MIUI V6.
(If you flashed original Fancy Kernel on MIUI V6, your phone would get into bootloop.)
It also supports F2FS, cause original Fancy Kernel supports it, too.
But you may change script from the ROM.
!(PROBABLY) NOT WORKING!
- No Root

5.5.29 and 5.7.2 use different ramdisk, so be careful when you flash other version.
If new version comes out, flash 5.7.2 kernel.
And if it not works, then I will tell the developer to port again.
Due to Fancy's root problem, he ported another kernel, Franco Kernel for MIUI V6.
It also supports F2FS.

Last time I tried MIUI v6 (4.4.4), I found lots of bugs, but it's good to see new possibilities for our ancient gnex =)
Also, it's good to know there is support for Fancy kernel, one of my fav ones.
I'm now with Cataclysm 4.3 and it is fast and stable, but the fun never ends... let's give MIUI a second chance! =)

I'm using CyanogenMod11 Latest Snapshot cause MIUI V6 has some laggy part due to its wonderful animation.

Do you have any problem about taking screenshot?
I'm using CM11 + Fancy Kernel, and screenshots aren't saved.
The error says 'Storage may be used already.'
I got report that if you use Fancy Kernel for MIUI V6 5.7.2 that I uploaded, it cannot be rooted.
Does anyone have that same problem, too?
Anyway, I reported that problem, then the developer ported Franco Kernel for MIUI V6.
I will write it in second thread.

Anyone tried google keep on miui 6?
I have installed but no sync working?
a bit slow in fact but everything looks great, using my nexus as a spare phone so I wont be using it a lot or load many apps, so great option for me at the moment. getting my way around with no google apps, lets see how it goes for now.
thanks for this thread!

its not that slow, I mean I haven't had any hangs on the phone opening an app or something (have not tried games or heavy apps, just waze, a little whatsappp and music at the same time and it performs just fine), just the way the transitions are set, that seem to be a bit slow in my opinion. I have not seen any visual bugs, in fact the only bug so far I encounter is taking a screenshot, just tried to make some to add to this post and the phone reboots, both hitting the shortcut on notifications or the old way (home+volume up) I was about to load and old version of MIUI ROM when I came across this thread and I can say this MIUI 5.7.12 is much better.
Now, what gapps are people loading on this ROM?
slds,

Not sure about the ext4. just got notified of an update in the updater app, downloaded but failed to flash in recovery, is there any catch to make the OTA updates work? has anyone tried them? could it bit that I removed a few MIUI apps like baidu ime, finance app, etc..
Finally got some google apps downloading a google installer app from MIUI market son my contacts and calendar are synced.
are we getting updates? is there a way to follow the guy that ported this version in some forum?

Guys, if you use Fancy or Franco Kernel for MIUI V6 in my 2nd thread, you can use F2FS, too.
(Of course, you should run F2FS changer tool.)

I've Busybox NDK and sqlite3 installed and init.qcom.sh is 755, but zipalign and sqlite3 aren't there. The logs are not created, neither.

thanks for trying swift! hope you get better experience.
The phone works great, silky smooth, but I had to reinstall my vendor and ROM, because the background tasks are killed too aggresively, and notifications where reaching only when each app was open in the foreground. I would suggest 2 things: an uninstaller, and unifying the logs in only 1 file.
Anyway, great work! I'll keep track on Swift Ops =)

thanks for the feedback!. about the uninstaller you dont have to reflash vendor anymore. just uninstall like a normal magisk module-remove at magisk manager. will definitely unify logs after test builds
can it be installed on arm64bit?
I installed SwiftOps 4.2, and everything seems to be working nice and smooth, but for a strange reason, the wifi internet connection is down. I've tested the network and the connection on other devices, so I tried stopping the VPN on the phone and rebooting, but the problem persists. Any idea of what can it be?
EDIT: If mobile data is deactivated, on reboot, the wifi connects fine.

Great! I'm testing it right now. About the tag in the OP title: this isn't really a kernel, isn't it?
