Hey I have an Incredible, and recently rooted and used the skyrider 2.52 rom. Then Verizon came out with "official froyo" and i downgraded and did the OTA. Well I hate the OTA because it has so many "spam" programs... So i would like to re root.... well there are so many different roms to choose from. Can some one explain the differences between them or the pluses and negatives of them. I like sence, but with froyo the sence isn't as nice as of upgrade above the stock as it was in 2.1. I like the facebook picture to contact integration, but i really don't know if stock has that either. I would just like a rom that is fast, efficient, and not a bunch of extra "b.s." that kills my battery. Any advice or comments are greatly apprieciated.
Thanks you

Vanilla = Ruby or SkyRaider
Sense = Virtuous
I think SkyRaider vanilla still has some sense left (I'm on virtuous atm) but I don't think any ROM Ive listed doesn't have the ability to us FB pics as I think it is part of the facebook app (I could be wrong).
Ruby is VERY fast and the latest version has killed off all the bugs that bothered me, but I kind of missed sense in places and also some of the SkyRaider features.
Virtuous doesn't get as good of Quadrant scores as the other two (for me) but runs REALLY smooth and I took out all the stuff I hated about sense.
All preference, but this should probably go in the Q&A forum. There are a few other posts just like this one (mine included) so you could read opinions already posted.
Try out Virtuous or Redemption. There are some others that are vanilla - no sense - but you have to try them for yourself. Each of the ones I mentioned removed all the bloat.
With regards to battery, look at the battery calibration thread.
First root using unrevoked 3.2
I recommend skyraider vanilla, its fully functional and has all the good stuff from vanilla. The only real things that it has from sense is the keyboard and dialer. Which I think is an improvement until a fully working CM Rom is released.

Thank you for the replies, but i thought there was skyrider, with sence and skyrider vanilla (no sence) I like the sence, that is why i got the incredible instead od droid or droid x. But the new 2.2 is not good. thank you kappo9000 for your post. I used unrevoked 3.2 then used skyrider with sence (pre 3.0) and i liked it better than the new OTA. But I took a "stap in the dark" when i chose that. If this needs to move to a Q&A that is fine. I just downloaded and leard about roms here, so that is where i posted. I wish Verizon didn't bloatware our phones, it's like buying a new computer... pretty soon they will have a option to pay $50 and they will clean our phones before we get them.
Thanks again evberybody i will read this over for a few days then i will pick one. And as for the facebook thing, if i get it on any rom, then SWEET!

Pick up ROM Manager. It's the BEEEEEST way to test all the ROMs. My procedure is to go in and "Backup Current ROM" so I can name it how I like (today I backed up SkyRaider as 0908-SkyRaider3RC2 for instance) then just wipe my data and cache when I install a new one without backing up.
Then I'll play with the new ROM for a while, and, if I like it, I'll back that one up to either install a new ROM or go back to one of my others.
In effect, you can take a snapshot of a ROM/config and roll between all of them to find out which one you like better. You can do that for yours now and play with whatever you like. Be warned : with all the REALLY good ROMs in this forum, you will suck up an entire night or two just playing with them I just wish the guys I work with did such a pro job like they do.
I think there are a few ways to go:
Pure minimalistic AOSP builds - Ruby / IncredibleDoes
More tweakable AOSP builds - CM
Senseless - Redemption, Virtuous (if remove sense apks) and SR Vanilla
Sense- Redemption, Virtuous, SR Sense, Stock
PS Not so sure with Redemption and Virtuous, haven't tried them before.
I personally like the minimal style of Ruby / ID, but it's all about personal preference. These ROMs all are fantastic in their own way, so try them out!
Haha, and yes, I have spent (*ahem. Read: WASTED) entire nights tweaking / trying out just ONE ROM. xD
Anyway, happy ROM-hunting! Do let us know which you pick =]
one problem. Unrevoked 3.2 is gone, and i can't seem to root 2.2 so do i have to downgrade first? and if so what is the best way?
I too am new to this ROM installing business, but so far I think that I'm leaning towards Ruby. Seems light and will be a nice change from what I've been used to.
And about your rooting question kmcrane, it is probably best just to wait for the unrevoked team to finish up with v3.21 instead of going through a rough downgrade process. It probably will not take them too much longer anyway. (their twitter feed said earlier today that they were going to be putting out test builds soon)
OK well i went back to 2.1 rooted and installed.......... Virtuous 2.6! I think it is the closest to stock Incredible froyo that is very complete. I like the screen shots of SkyRaider Sence, but there are updates and bugs with that.. I will keep an eye on that one and maybe use the rom manager to back up, then try that one. I would like to thank everyone who replied on here to help me, and everyone that posted the endless amounts on posts on XDA forums. I have read so many "how to's" and everyone is just great! I wish we could all just go out for a beer sometime! HAHA Thanks all!
I'd recommend SkyRaider Sense any day!.. Sky Raider has put in a lot of effort into making this aesthetically pleasing and stable. With virtuous, you are as good as installing the official ota..
If you want to have the benefit of sense, with a few modifications to sense.. go with skyraider.

I 2nd these choices but haven't tried Ruby. SkyRaider was the first Rom I tried and I've on n have used virtuous the longest so far and love it. I've also tried CM, Frankenrom, and Fourth Wave but it errored on install and the forums say something about upgrading hboot which I won't do so I deleted it.
Good call!

I have v 2.6 now. I see the screen shots of skyraider with sence and it looks cool. Redemption has new 2.0 and it looks like you can add mods to change it up... if i back up my v 2.6 and try a different rom, do i reinstall all my apps? Can i use app brain to help with that? Cause i have 50+ apps. I would like a stock-like rom and maybe one totally different... also what does Vanilla mean? I see sence, stock, and vanilla..... what is the differences and advantages of each?
Thanks guys/gals

Here's what I understand and someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Sense is the ROM with SenseUI code (extra coding that makes the HTC's so neat compared to Moto)
Stock is pretty much just as it was when you bought it. (original ROM installed by manufacturer)
Vanilla is pretty much the Android OS running on a particular phone without the extra coding (like on the Sense)
Many of the ROM's have both a sense and a vanilla version so if you like Sense and it's widgets etc. you can get that one and if you want to customize the most you can get the vanilla.
Virtuous is an awesome ROM. Skyraider has both sense and vanilla avail. Ruby is just vanilla and also Cyanogen if I'm not mistaken.
Hope this helps some!
I upgraded to Virtuous 2.7 and it is cool. I guess with all the modding and roms, i have gotten bit by the customize bug. Virtuous ROM was fine, but pretty much the same as the stock (except a few small things in 2.7) I think i want something different and fresh. Circle Battery looks cool. maybe something where i can customize the bottom buttons (phone, all apps, and add to home) it would be nice to change those. The main thing is i don't want crap unwanted software, (city id, amazon mp3, etc...) Thanks again for all the help and input,
Oh kmcrane, SkyRaider vanilla latest release showed up on ROM manager a few hours ago!
I've been using the new Virtuous 2.7 with the battery saving kernel and really liking it. Basically, it's like a stock froyo with some liposuction and a bit of plastic surgery--crapware all gone, some very nice SmoothSense modifications, and rock solid (no crashes or FCs). With the alternative kernel, you can add SetCPU and customize settings to maximize battery life.

I love the rom, don't get me wrong. But it seems to have more problems then any other one i've ever used. I have issues like after unlocking the screen is in landscape, 5 random reboots a day, apps forceclosing, and stuff like that. The things I like that I'm looking for are how it's almost completely senseless. I love the phone call screen, and thats the only rom I've seen with it.
Any recommendations?
Ruby, ShadowROM, IncDoes CM.
All of them run stable for me, no reboots other than my own.
They're all based on different code, with maybe a few things forked from CM, so they're all a bit different. However, all are based upon AOSP, so also very similar.
Tryyyy and tell us which you like! =]
For me personally, Ruby was awesome until I found ShadowROM. I've stuck with ShadowROM for more than 24 hours without flashing something else...haha, sadly a new record xD
Ruby?
/10char
Ruby, by far.
Shadow Rom is the closest thing to cyanogenmod. I really like shadow rom it comes with the stock froyo launcher and has its own cool live wall paper. It's available in tom manager under the premium section. It's really stable and the kernel that it comes with can be over clocked to 1.15 gHz. The only thing that doesnt work yet is the notifications light.

I'll throw in my towel in with the Ruby crowd... it's what I'm running now and love it.
I officially hate CM. Anytime I put in a new rom, it basically puts half of it over CM. Still does the same crap. I've chosen Wipe Data/cache from rom manager and from the recovery menu. Unless Shadow is just as buggy as CM.
i just wanted some input on a few roms......currently i am running incrom 1.6 but i have cyanogenmod7, warm z twopointtwo, redemption rom 2.4 and skyraider 4.0 all installed on my sd card and i flip back and forth between all of them and can't seem to decide on which to stay with. any input on which you would choose and why would be greatly appreciated!!!!
thanks
Depends. If you like the look and feel of AOSP, go look at OMGB. It's stock Gingerbread. If you like AOSP but want more customization, CM7 or OMFGB. They are both AOSP Gingerbread but both have their own sets of customization options. On the other hand, if you like Sense UI, the Stock Sense 2.0 ROM is good for a good stock look, and it has Sense 2.0 instead of 1.0. If you like themes and mods, Warm Z is becoming good at that, with add-ons that you can flash to change the look. SkyRaider 4.0 is the best Sense ROM that has a ton of customization built in. If you want MODs on the fly with Sense, SR4 is for you. All the other ones based off stock Incredible Sense 1.0 framework are good, but if you are looking more for speed, the Sense 2.0 ones are the best at that. I run CM7 because I like customization and AOSP Gingerbread. I run invisiblek's kernel usually because they play the best with my phone and battery. I'm also trying out the HAVS MOD right now, but I wouldn't unless you know what you're doing. Hope this helped. I'll post the links to all the ROMs I mentioned below.
SkyRaider 4.0 by ihtfp69
Warm Z by incubus26jc
Stock Sense 2.0 by incubus26jc
CM7 by the CyanogenMod team
OMGB by r2DoesInc
OMFGB by r2DoesInc
I personally have an affinity for I CM7 . I more or less was doing what you are describing except with ROMS, Kernels, and Radios all at the same time ( damn new bricked my phone on a few lol ) . So far CM7 has been the most stable for me and has been the most "friendly" to use. However, what you are asking is hard to answer. It's like "What is my favorite food?" . You know that better than we will . In the end, just pick something that has everything you need and just leave it alone lol
AOSP roms: CM7, OM(F)GB, Salvage Mod. I love CM7, and Salvage looks promising too. Never really used OM(F)GB
Sense: Skyraider 4 suits me best, but I like Warm Z and Incredibly Re-Engineered (Z and Evo) too.
OMGB 112
I've flashed numerous roms, but have found that
OMGB 112 revolutionized my Incredible. With Chad's kernel,
it gets decent battery life and is fast fast fast. No issues
of any kind. If you're tired of the stock look, backup your
stuff and then flash OMGB. Use Clockwork 3008 and wipe
everything twice. After it boots up, power down and do a factory
re-set in Recovery. Now your Incredible is Really Incredible.
I like CM7 (nightlies) and IncRom, personally. CM7 has such a great community, and I found myself using adw launcher with sense, so I actually prefer the look of it to sense (I hate that you are stucj with 7 screens. I like to run 2-3, depending on my setup). The only downside is no 720 video, which is why I have a nandroid of incrom. In addition, IncRom has the most appealing and finished looking theme of any ROM I have tried.
I have flashed my fair share of roms from Sense to Sense(less), Foyo to Gingerbread the list goes on. One thing I have noticed is that they all seem to have a similar appearance. I have yet to see a Rom that is unique in appearance. Does anyone know of any Roms that give a truly unique look, something new and different?
MIUI is the most unique android rom, it's like a iphone android hybrid.
I agree. I always come back to Miui. They update the rom on every Friday, and as of late it has been incredibly stable. Every so often I'll switch to a Sense rom, but within a week I'm back to Miui.
Acer Liquid. Definitely.

Wrong lol I have to disagree and say the new liquid ui is the most unique Rom..its totally different

I found that Rom to be... I don't know, frustrating? Issues with the lockscreen, the multiple music players... I think Miui is much more solid, and the built in features are unmatched.
I would have to say that both MIUI are completly in there own. Both based off AOSP (incase you are wanting to try different kernels) But I preferred LiquidMetal. I am not a fan of the iphone. Although the options in MIUI were a lot better as far as customization. I only used each for a short time and am currently on gingersense remix (b2) (attempting to download b3 as I type. This one is nice but looking more like a sense rom with some of the new sense 3.0 stuff on it.
I say give both MIUI and liquid metal a go and see what you think.

How is that one running for you? I tried both 3.0 roms and got sick of the rosie loops.

I love Miui, I really do but it doesn't like my Incredible. It's starting to get better and more functional with the latest updates but still laggy. I have never tried nor heard of LiquidMetal. I will have to look into that one.
I am curious about the 3.0 Roms that are coming out. I'm timid to try them out right now though, I fear that since they are not "stable", I will grow a resilience to them.
MIUI gets my vote. The early versions were too much of an iPhone clone for my tastes but have since gone back to it on recent versions.
However, I'm not crazy about the way they did the launcher being iPhone-esque by keeping all apps on the desktop, I prefer having an app drawer. So I run it with the Go Launcher.
MIUI's theming engine is incredibly easy to create themes on your own, and there is a huge collection of themes online, although I like a good sleek dark theme.
It has been incredibly stable for me, and I've really gotten to like their styles of pop up dialogs and menus.
I have tried all of the 3.0 and 2.1/3.0 ROM's. I can tell you that after a few reboots and soft reboots, they will calm down, and you will enjoy them.
With that said, GingerSense ReMix by wdfowty is the best right out of the box. No loops at all, I assume because it is from a 2.1 base with 3.0 goodies added in.
Try them!

So, whats the verdict?
I'm looking for a ROM for my evo.
I just got it last week from my dad, because he upgraded to an iPhone. (He was running some old version of CM7)
I need an updated and fast ROM with everything working.
Thinking about CM7.2 RC3, but I was wondering if there was anything better that I should consider running.
Don't want anything that has too much themeing, unless it looks sleek. (Also prefer darker colors)
I also don't need 4g.
Help/Suggestions?
Decks reloaded follow the installation instructions down to a T and you'll be fine, this rom flies!

Hmm. If you dont need 4G take a peek at my Mokee port. It's almost rock solid, and there are just a tiny bit of bugs, like you cant send mms with wifi connected to a network (you toggle wifi off then it will send ), and like 2 menus crash (because there not setup to a app yet)
and it is based off of CM7.2 so you are getting massive speed
here is the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1696993
And a handful of people are using it as a daily so you cant go wrong with this if you do choose it
I don't really like the theme. Would prefer darker...
But still looks like a great ROM.
I'm also open to just flashing all the tweaks on a vanilla version of gingerbread.
If someone could like all the tweaks/fixes/mods flashable .zip files, that would be great.
only way to go when it comes to ROMs

You have got to try Nitrous ROM by raafaell before you settle on a selection. I was a flash-oholic for a while after I rooted. Until I found Nitrous. I also did not want a bunch of themed stuff, just gets to be too much. 4G does work...where you can get it. Super smooth, darker blue tones throughout, all your standard mods (battery, transitions) too if you want to metamorph that stuff.
It will certainly be worth your time to check it out I have continued to try other ROMs because there are some really talented devs out there making some great work but I always go home to Nitrous.
