Hey there,
I use 1and1 for my exchange access and they require you to use some sort of security enforcement policy on your phone. On windows 5 I was able to put in a 4 digit pin and set it to only ask me for it after 24 hours of non-use. It also asked me for it on reboot. I keep my keypad locked because there's nothing I hate more than having my phone dial random people. To do this of course, I just held down the end key untill the screen locked. To unlock it, I just pressed the center button on the d-pad and the asterisk key. Everything was peachy.
Well in windows 6, they still require me to enter a PIN in and everything, BUT I cannot change the time in which it requires me to enter my pin to unlock. Additionally, every time I screen lock my phone I have to enter my PIN which is incredibly annoying.
Is there some sort of reg hack that I can fix this with?
No, the point of security enforcement is to protect the device from having sensitive data stolen and as a result these kinds of policies can not be overridden through any fashion except settings on the exchange server. You need to contact 1and1 and ask them to remove this policy, or switch to another exchange provider.
4SmartPhone doesn't pull this stuff.
Thanks for the response, but I don't think I made myself clear enough.
I don't want to bypass the security, I don't care about that.
I just don't want to have to enter my password every time I want to use my phone. Who does that?
Start>Settings>security>device lock
from there you should be able to adjust the phone's lock settings.
whether you want to get round it or not, it is most likely the policy set at 1 & 1's end and they need to adjust it at their end....
it might be that this function on the exchange works differently on the server cos it is windows mobile 6.
As WM6 is optimised for Exchange 2007, it could be a bug in the MS Activesync set up when using these policies on an exchange 2003 SP2 server.
I don't have a WM6 excalibur, but i can test it with an S710 and our Exchange 2007 server if you want....?
One more thought, delete the exchange partnership, and then go into the lock settings. Turn the lock on and set it to 24 hours.
Then go back in and turn it off. the time settings should stay at 24 hours even though it is turned off.
Then set up the exchange server. if you are lucky, it might just stay at 24 hours instead of the OS default of 0 minutes.
Be lucky....
try this:
Enable changing password lock time:
In the registry do the following:
\hklm\security\policies\policies\00001023 from 0 to 1.
i have the same problem with 1and1 using a cavalier with wm6. my real problem is that sometimes at startup the device gets stuck in t9 and will not recognize the numbers in my pin so i have to hard reset the device. 1an1 say they have nothing to do with the security password and will not help
Disable T9
Heh-heh, I never liked the T9 thingie on my T-Mobile Dash/HTC Excalibur. To turn the T9 on and off (toggle) press alt and then press space. This should toggle the T9 function of WM6 smartphones. At least, it did on my Dash.
Now, on with my crusade to unlock my Dash!!...
turning the t9 off is the same on the cavalier, but the problem is that sometimes this test rom decides to turn it back on at start up and other times it does not. it is really pissing me off.
thanks for the suggestion though. i just really need a way to dissable this security password.

The phone gives an error screen and says "unable to perform this operation".
on my wm5 ppc i removed the exchange account yet I can't turn off the pin security. Now thats annoying.
you can also try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1269318&postcount=7

cool that worked thanks!
Before you can change the registry keys, you need to run the "Application and CID" unlock program provided on this site. I did it on my Cavalier and it worked like a charm.
Any ideas anyone?
Hey mtvkilledusall -
Did you ever get this figured out? It is annoying the ****e out of me!!!
I'm the Exchange admin, and I'm considering turning off this "feature" for my device.
Like you, I just want to be able to KEYLOCK the device (so it doesn't dial 911 in my pocket, etc.), but I'd still like to keep the security.
This used to work fine on my MDA. Very annoying.

Same issue here after upgrading from Samsung Blackjack 1 to a Blackjack II, WM6 and 1and1 Exchange server. On top of that, after configuring exchange, my phone also looses the menus quick access numbers. Very frustrating.... Anyone found a fix yet?
Thierry.
I am having a really annoying problem on my phone, I've setup a clients exchange emails on my phone to test it was working and it's forced my device to have a password. I've since then taken his exchange details off, and set the device back up with my exchange server but it's not letting me take the password off.
I don't want any password at all on my phone.
Any help would be good
Thanks,
DJ

from what i read you also need to change the reg entry in HKLM/system/policies/policies/00001023 to change the security of the exchange server on the phone. I may be wrong but i also made that change and it seems to work perfect for me. Phone doesnt lock and the security policy never refreshes. I believe if you do not change this reg entry you are going to still get prompted for a password when you boot up.

Simple... just edit the register at the following
HKLM\Security\Policies\00001023
0 = Enabled; 1 = Disabled
that is actually exactly what zenyee's stayunlock does.
It monitors the regkey and changes it back when exchange touches it.
Manually changing the reg-key does the trick as well, but the exchange server may decide to re-push the security policy at any moment in time. If you are lucky, the server is not set to auto-update the policy every x hours.
The server I sync with unfortunately pushes the policy every 24 hours, so manually changing the key back every time is no option for me
If anyone finds a hack that does not involve a 3rd party progran, i would be interrested tho
Thanks for the replies
I'm guessing a hard reset will stop this too?
Just I've decided to send my phone back to MPD because of the wobbly screen so I'll be hard resetting it tonight.
Does anyone know how to hard reset it?
Thanks,
DJ
Turn the phone off;
Hold start call and end call keys and (short) press power on;
Release start call & end call keys;
Follow on-screen instructions.
Hello all!
I recieved a brand new HTC Touch Pro 2 today, and was very excited to have finally got it! However, since getting it - 12 hours ago - I have been trying and failing to set up the e-mail side of things. I use both a normal googlemail account, a POP account through outlook, and three accounts that use google aps (mail) as a host. I have followed this to the 't':
https://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=78886
But still no joy on any of the accounts except the bog standard '@[email protected] account. The phone keeps asking for my password, which I know is correct.
Anyone else have the same problems/have any ideas how to resolve this? Before I throw it against the wall! :-(
Hi
I'm having the exact same problem getting my hotmail account to work. I have a vodafone uk branded phone which I bought on eay but I'm using an O2 sim. I've managed to get everything else working but not the email. It's very depressing. It was dead easy on my trusty Xperia.
Thanks for any help...
e-mails not forwarding
Can anyone shed any light on this?
I don't know if this will help, but for your username try putting "username"@gmail.com instead of just your username. That is what I've had to do in the past and it works fine.
My issue at the moment is i have entered all the details correctly but when i try to do a send receive it says "error synchronising" and then popups up a box which says "Cannot connect with current connection settings. To change your connection settings, tab settings". Which i have no clue about because its taking me into all the TMobile data connection stuff.
I get this no matter what connection i setup. But the strange thing is when i very first did it, it worked. Every time since then has failed though.
Tried calling T-Mobile or HTC? I don't know if they could help you.
Mine is working with IMAP gmail

Two things I found.
1. Go to Settings, All Settings, Connections Tab, Connections Icon, Advanced, Select Networks. Top box should be set to T-Mobile Internet.
2. Press Edit (Just under the top drop-down), Proxy Settings. I found the default ROM (UK) was set to 149.254.201.132 - not sure if this is a hard coded ROM error, or a Network wizard setup error - either way, untick the "This network uses a proxy server...."
If this was ticked, all should be OK now.
If not, then do call T-Mobile Tech Support.
Good luck !
I had the same problem on my TP2, unbranded byon T-Mobile. Unticking the "This network uses a proxy server" box solved the problem. I had the same problem with my old TyTn2 as well.
Remenber, if you hard reset you will probably have to do this again!! Hopefully this will solve your problem.
I had the same problem with the exact same error message on my 1and1 email account. I found that when usines imap 1and1 block port 25 (to prevent spam) so when setting up the outgoing server address I had to specify another port (got that from 1and1's FAQ's where its buried and simply says that sometimes port 25 is blocked and if it is try using port xxx (can't remember which one). Anyway that worked straight away for me. Unfortunatley Winmob's error messages are pretty useless so good luck in isolating why the problem has occurred - took me two days to work it out.
Cheers
Barney
Hi guys, my little one was playing with phone and has locked my phone after doing the pattern unlock. Dont know how many times she has done it.
It is now saying unlock using email address.
I have done the following:
If you have forgotten the screen unlock pattern, you have up to five attempts to try and unlock your phone. If this fails, you can unlock your phone by entering your Google Account user name and password.
1. On the unlock screen, attempt to enter your unlock pattern five times.
2. When prompted to wait for 30 seconds, tap OK.
3. If the display goes off, press the POWER button to turn the display back on, and then press the bar on the lock screen and slide your finger down to unlock the screen.
4. Tap the Forgot Pattern button in the lower right corner when it appears.
5. Enter your Google Account name and password, and then tap Sign in.
When i do this it just says invalid username and password, just does not let me go past that screen i can still receive calls which is good for now.
I have tried turning phone off still same thing.
I dont know wat to do now to gain access to my phone. Only had it 2 days.
I have been online to make sure my email address and passwrod are correct and the gmail address is correct. Could it be a different address, as the only other address i use aint working either.
My internet connection is disabled too, am i totally fecked or can someone please advise best way. MANAGED TO GET INTERNET CONNECTED using hold power button still no good.
Thanks and fast reply would help majorly.
Nad
Re: **major screw up help pls**
when you have the login with Google account screen, put your Google mail address in as normally and for the password type "null"
excluding ""
give that a go. it will mean you won't need to reset your phone.
You can hard reset the phone (starts the phone like new - will delete all user prefs and apps contacts etc) and will return it to the state it is in when it's new
Turn the phone off
Hold down VolDown and turn the phone on by pressing the Power Button (keep holding VolDown)
Follow the onscreen instructions to wipe your phone

The only time I know of when you have to use @ in a Google login is if you are using a Google apps account with your own domain, otherwise it is always just your username.
ActiveSync seems to fail after sleeping for 10mins or more. I currently have the latest OTA stock rooted. Exchange ActiveSync works great unless my phone sleeps (screen shuts off and does not receive other alerts, email, SMS, whatever those will keep it 'awake' I guess) for 10 mins, at which point even if I turn it back on I still do not get email. I would really be thankful if someone with exchange (and a gmail or other account) could try the following and let me know their results.
1. Shut the screen off on your phone and let it sleep for 10mins (if you get an email or SMS or phone call shut the screen off and start the 10 mins over)
2. Turn the screen back on and go to the gmail app (assuming you have this) and send an email to your exchange account.
3. Wait to see how long it takes for your phone to alert you of a new email, for me it never does, if I go into the Mail app and refresh, or manually sync, or turn off Mobile Data and turn it back on, or restart the phone, then and only then do I get the alert.
This is with what I think is the HTC exchange code, right? I thought I heard Froyo was adding some kind of exchange support but I don't see it.
Again, thanks for any help.
Oh forget to mention, this is with Exchange 2003, I do have 'Enable Always-on mobile data' enabled, and this does not happen when on wifi.
Google Stock 'Email' app works
I switched from the HTC 'Mail' to Google's Stock 2.2 'Email' app someone pulled from the Nexus one, and the problem is gone, I'm not sure if I anyone else ever tried this or had the problem but if they do, thats the solution I used, too bad I have to lose the nice HTC widgets.
