Back up Then Restore SMS/MMS - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Hello people. I am looking for an application to back up and restore a bit later my SMS Inbox, Sent and Deleted Items folders. Then, I would like to restore this back up on another device. These two devices are both HTC Touch Pro2. I had a warranty replacement, but I have many messages on my old phone. Like I said: I want to back up and restore my SMS Inbox, Sent, and Deleted Items Folder; And the same thing with my MMS folders. Thank You For Your Help!!

Microsoft's free MyPhone app will do that, along with your contacts, e-mails, etc...just not your programs. It backs them up to the cloud, so you can even access them through a regular web portal from a PC, if you're so inclined It's one of the most useful things (right out of the box anyway) that microsoft has ever spit out
myphone.microsoft.com

With the free util PIMBackup you can backup/restore SMS.
Don't know if it also does MMS?

so, yeah, it appears that myphone doesn't do MMS as well...I thought it was all along, until you pointed that out.
I've gone digging for another solution, and it seems that none of the personal-information backup solutions are able to grab the MMS messages too, including the one developed here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299705
According to that dev, the issue is with how the MMS interface (by Arcsoft software) stores/references its info in a proprietary format that's not easy to interpret and utilize.
So, for the time being anyway, the only way to back up MMS as well is to do a full system backup with something like SPB Backup or Sprite

I'd never seen it before, and it does look pretty cool...but it looks like even that one doesn't capture MMS messages

Not sure about "capture" but I think it might send and backup MMS
Much better than that app Microsoft have produced, although there's no supprise there !

From what it says on the website, even that one doesn't backup MMS, just SMS...the same problem with all the available options, it seems

you can also use www.microsoft.com/myphone, with it you can save online your contacts, sms, pics, vids, and calendar online, and if you change your phone you can easily take it on it without problems, i try it, i test it, and off course i approve it. enjoy
I think MyPhone is too much messed.... Too bad it, but PPCPimBackup is plainer and easier.... and after all it takes only few Kb of memory........

T-Mobile Dash Text Messages - Save to PC?

Hello,
I have a T-Mobile Dash and I need to find a way to transfer the text messages from it to my pc. Is there an open source program out there that I could use to do that with? My guess is that there are about 500-600 text messages that I need to save.

You could also use PIM Backup v2.8 is made for PPC's so bit fiddly on SP but does the job all the same, can save to storage card & copy to PC.
or try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3587961#post3587961
Not exactly what you're looking for, but I don't know the reason for wanting to do this, so I thought I'd point out another alternative. Take a look at Microsofts "My Phone"... it'll syncronize your entire phone (including text messages) to the cloud. If you're doing this just for backup and restore purposes, it's easy to use. Took me a little bit to get my beta account though.

Thanks all for your tips. I ended up trying PIM Backup and it worked but the formatting of the text messages came out so scattered when I viewed them in Open Office Excel that I am unable to find a formatting that will keep the dates legible. I tried different file conversion attributes and even tried converting the file to a .pdf but with no luck. I guess its enough that the program actually backed up everything but I would really like to have some way to verify that all the data can be successfully restored after I cold reset my Dash since I have been trying for some time with T-Mobiles tech support to find a way to get my picture text messaging functioning again but they are telling me that the only way to get that to happen is to cold reset the phone and that will kill all of my contacts and text messages so I need to make sure that all of that data is actually saved and restorable before I go ahead and try. I also wanted to have a copy of all of my data should the hard drive on the phone fail at some time. Any suggestions for how to verify that the data can actually be restored?

Just a personal opinion, but unless the texts are hilarious jokes or a guide to a hidden treasure, I don't see why anyone would have to save 500-600 texts!

[request] software for easy SMS backup

is there somehow some software witch can easely backup all incomming/outgoing sms's ? ? ?
like,
downloading the conversations from the phone to my pc ?
ore sync. it somehow??
Pim Backup is all you need....
link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299705
Een geluk dat er slimme Belgen bestaan hé ;-)
I often recommended PIMBackup, but several times users in other forums reported incomplete restores with backup, especially with larger amounts of SMS. So I would not bet on it. I use Sprite Backup, but maybe you wanna give the free Mobile Express http://www.efficasoft.com/mobileexpress/index.html a try. It is sort of a Outlook Express for SMS, you can move SMS to a backup folder, and of course also send/receive from your desktop PC.

For me, PIMBackup has allways done the job (even though I had 1000+ sms/mms to recover after backup).
But, like with any other apps, there will allways be some problems on particular devices/ROMs.
Grtz,
Degake
Maybe try myphone.microsoft.com ? Works for me.
Jeyo Mobile Companion is awesome!
It lets you download the messages, back them up and restore them with the threaded sms in place..
I haven't had any issues so far, but I don't use it a huge amount, just to reply to sms's from the pc while the phone is connected

By the way.. Dutty's ROMs ROCK!! (Just thought I'd add that in since I've not said it anywhere else )
I eassely exceed over a 1000+ sms a month, so i'm realy searching for a nice app what does the trick.. i'll be watching this tread and will be trying a few suggestions

The Microsoft MyPhone service would handle this nicely. You can set the options to sync when when ever there is change on the device meaning your SMSs can be uploaded to the web as soon as they arrive.
You can also use MyPhone to back up contacts, calendar, music and pictures. It's still a 'work in progress' service but I wouldn't be surprised to see it integrate with Live Mesh and (hopefully) Outlook so it can become an Exchange Service for Joe Public.

I'm not sure what SMS app you use but Vito just came out with an update for their SMSChat app. You can now backup your sms in the settings within this app...no need for any other software!
I've used POWERSMS and worked fine for me.
Ciao

this one is free, and offcourse, for me being dutch, freeware does the trick better
haha
no kidding, i'll be testing the lot, as soon as i got them. i will be ceeping my eyes open, buth this one did the trick nicely!
Sadly it doesn't work with "conversations", that's the only thing missing, you'll have to sort all messeges by date, sender, or size.
Shurely if you export all messeges sorted by time it somehow looks like a conversation.
i'll be trying the other options now

Transfer SMS

Hi,
Anyone know how to transfer SMS from Windows Mobile 6.x to Android 2.1?
WM app and Android app which can export/import SMS to certain format that both can understand?
Thanks.
Would it be possible to transfer texts from a "dumb phone" to my Android, e.g. by saving the texts to my SIM-card?
This is what I found:
http://android.modaco.com/content-p...sfered-windows-mobile-sms-to-android/page/40/
And there is also paid app:

Great find, thanks. I've just been through the entire process with sprite migrate and at no point did it prompt me to pay.
I was gonna ask this question about SE c905 sms to desire but then rememberd about myphoneexploer which can export sms from sony ericsson phones in various diff formats. should find 1 app that can import them onto desire. only issue with mpe is it dnt always save sent message times and dates so the chat like sms system on c905 wont transfer properly to desire as sent messages wud be in the wrong order.
I just did too It worked perfectly.
And I realize that this is still BETA version, that's why we dont need to pay.
The software will be expired on July 2010.

[Q] Export SMS (to email or text)?

I'd like to export my SMS messages either to my email (non-Gmail) or into text format.
"SMS Backup +" claims to back up to Gmail but I read a blog about it that makes me think it works with any IMAP server, not just Gmail(???). Not sure if it can export to text.
Similar thoughts for "Super Backup : SMS & Contacts".
There are a few other blogs around about this, but I trust answers here much more than some of the stuff out there on the web. So what are you people using for something like this?
PS - Oh, "Text via Email" looks promising. I also see "SMS to Text". Few to try out, but I'd like to hear if anyone has experience with these or other solutions.

I assume you mean for backup purposes? If so, I use SMS Backup and Restore. It backs everything up to an xml file. You can read the file, but it's not in a format that's extremely friendly to the eyes.
No, I'm not looking for a backup just to be able to restore to the phone again.
I am looking for a human-readable SMS export, so xml... that'd be my last resort -- I'd prefer text file(s) or email.
Good Solution
Tried "SMS Backup +" and found that yes indeed, although it defaults to Gmail, it can be configured to use any other IMAP server. Pretty much perfect for what I wanted. Highly recommended.

The "Restore" part of "Backup and Restore" must have not been too clear.... the app I mentioned backs up to an xml file, then restores them back, regardless of what ROM you're using... I'm sorry for not clarifying that SMS Backup and Restore would actually backup SMS messages and restore them as well.
