Radio roms : best minimum radio rom (stable + least consuming) ? - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Hi,
On my HTC P3300 i noticed a different radio can be a world of difference in battery life.
There was an older one, which was just stable enough, and my battery was standby for almost 1 full week!
I have the Touch Pro 2 now, and i'm wondering which radio is the minimum and most stable rom with best battery life? I flashed the latest radio here in the topic above, but it consumes reasonable.
Thanks!
Cheers,

All of your radio questions will be answered in the depths of this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=549939
The battery usage is dependent on which RILPHONE.DLL has been cooked into the ROM you are using. However, I digress, for all of that information is available at the above thread. Please post future radio questions there

Yeah everyone knows this topic, but it's 90 pages man, this takes ages to read all!
Just want to know someone that tested a lot of radios and knows the minimum required and most stable with less battery consumption.
On Artemis forum there was simply a poll and people voted for best radio or least consumption, and it was correctly, my battery lasted a week!

Basically you have to do your own tests as it depends on the ROM you are using in combination with the radio.
That will give you the results you are looking for, but you have to test several to get conclusions
Let us know your results please

I'd love to know your results as well. I recently flashed the Tmo 6.5, and the radio blows!! I have a helluva time hearing people, it always seems to be breaking up mid-call. I am considering flashing to the radio I had previously, but am not quite sure how well it will play with my current rom.
And yes, that radio rom thread has a million posts and is quite tedious to read.

i use dotcompt's deepshining rom with the radio 4.49.25.17 and i'm extremely impressed with my battery life...i've been up for about 12 hours now and during that 12 hours i've used my phone extensively...i text a lot and play music a lot too. My battery is showing a still solid 60%...not too shabby for a days use

Telstra Australia Radio Rom

Hey guys,
I just moved from the Netherlands to Australia and I got a contract on the Next G network from Telstra. I am currently running Radio 1.54.00.1 which is not bad, but it can be better I think. I was wondering if there are other people here that are on this network and if you have any recommendations?
Thank a lot

Welcome to the Land of Oz!
Best I've found so far is 1.40.30.00 running with Black RC rom, tried all the others but always end up back here. With a newer rom base 3.61 or 3.62 a newer radio may???? be better, but until I find a better rom than Black RC (haven't yet) this is the radio that seems to give the best all round performance.
i am using htc original based rom (hacked) which i find extremely stable and reliable.
I use 1.43 which is an awesome radio and designed for australias conditions, fast internet, fast lock on, little switching, good reception.
battery is pretty good unless u use hspda a lot ( eg messenger constant 4 2 hours will suck ur battery quicker than talk time)
i updated to 1.54 but it sucked big time and wnt back to stable fast reliable 1.43 never failed me yet.
my recommendation, try this combination.
hey mate,
I use 1.20.31.10 that was the original that came with my handset, i have tried others but this gives me the best reception, batt power and speed. Im in vic.
pdajas
1.48 working great for me. 54 was chewing up a ridiculous amount of battery life!
Another vote for 1.40.30.00 working well on NextG in Melbourne!
Using 1.43 in Melbourne. No problems at all.
Must admit that I havent tried any others so cant say how well it compares with others.
Thaks guys, I'll give your recommendations a go!
Cheers

New user question/advice

I'm getting my O2 branded diamond from UK this week so my question is:
Which cooked rom and radio rom you would recommend for optimal performance and battery life. Thanks

For the radio, i would look into this poll: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=432770
And about the rom, i will advice you to try them yourself.. A place to start could be this benchmark test: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=406640
Happy flashing & next time, please use the search.
This question is almost a daily thread on this forum
As Sayed its a daily question and please read radio thread and for waht the best rom Just READ !!
a tip of mine is just look wich roms have the most reply's so you will know whats the most used ROM !! test em and you will get one u like
OR Cook your own
Can't go wrong with Duttys ROMs, although Panoshas Roms are good too.
As for Radio, i tested a few. 08 seems the best for me. The GPS lag isn't as bad with that radio. It was only bout 1 second behind.
Battery Life?
Thank you for your replies guys, I know should have searched but I'm too excited about finally getting it and a bit nervous about battery life.
How long does it last for you on average use?
I'm used to having 3g and beams turned off cause i don't use them.
Can one get 2-3 days of battery life with all the tweaks?
Thanks a lot!
If you will be using 3G, then not even a day! May be 9 hours with moderate use with the 900mAh battery. I wrote a little article to improve the battery life of the Diamond. You may visit it

[Q] Best ROM to use for performance +battery life AND RADIO

Ive used both the Virtuous sense and stock sense ROMS i have heard that sense in general kills battery life and i get horrible battery life so im starting to believe it i have heard Cyanogenmod 7 is great on battery life while offering great phone speeds and performance any recommendations? also i understand having a incorrect radio can give you batter life equiivilent to a brick if i where provide the radio version number and any other info would you be able to point me in the direction of the right radio to flash

Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
so use the one that matches my build number?
My experience is that you don't need to select radios in any particular way, although I think using radios for your location (TMOUS / WWE / AUS) is probably beneficial. Pfak / rmk's ril-automatcher has also helped me.
In most cases it seems to be experiment until you find one that works for you.
My phone lasts a full day, on reasonably high use. I'm on the 12.50.60.24_26.08.04.16 (WWE). In the past I've used 12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26 (TMOUS), which installed when I downgraded to root. It gave me poorer battery life, although I found 12.28e.60.140f_26.04.02.17 (WWE) worked quite well for me.

[Q] Can New Radio Improve Battery Performance in Rooted Desire phone??

Weheyyy! Hello to all you lovely helpers
I am very happily rooted, s-off partitioned etc etc and have lovely new Insertcoin ROM!!........but........have another question, I hope someone would be kind enough to answer please, which is:-
My phones battery seems to have become quite poor (was poorish anyway) but now a little worse and am thinking its because of all the lovely Insertoin bits on it. I am wondering, my battery version is 5.11.05.27, and thought if I updated it to the most recent version would there be an improvement??? Also, occasionally experiencing a few dropped calls.....
Any info at all very appreciated.
P.S. If I have incorrectly started a new thread, sorry but I did search and nothing else came up!!!
In my experience, no. Moving to a ROM like LeeDroid can make a massive difference. I personally love AcesMod for the full 'Sense HD' experience but the battery was bad and there were some FC's that I sufferred. Leedroid 3.3.3 doesn't give the full 'HD' experience but it's reliable and has exceptional battery life.

I have discarted your disclaimer and substituted it with my own: BravoS ROCKS, dudes!
Stable signal - means better battery life.
It can't hurt to change your radio to the most recent one to see if this will help out your battery life. I'm sure you already have but also look at your sync frequencies on things like email and weather as they can eat into your battery.
From what I've read, the sense based rom's will always eat a lot battery because there's so many processes going on in them all the time. For best battery life switch to an aosp rom.
If you want to flash the newest radio look here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=687464&highlight=radio
to get the newest one (5.17.05.23).
Then go here and get this...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=794638&highlight=radio
which is a flash utility to use on your pc/laptop. Seems a lot of people use it to flash stuff onto their Desire (useful for flashing a new splash screen as well). I used it to flash my radio and all went smoothly.
If you need any more help just ask

[Q] CM7 kernel + radio

Does anyone have any recommendations for a kernel (that supports 2way call recording) and a radio (that works well on the vodafone australia network, if they are network specific), as I did a bit of searching but there isn't really any recommendations, eg should I always go with the latest radio etc, or quite what..
Any help would be much appreciated.
I was looking at "LorDModUE V8.5" -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1085725
I'm unsure which radio though...
Lordmod is definitely a good kernel, and it has a 2-way call recording option
As for radio, I assume you've seen this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=877295
I know that some Vodafone phones are shipped with the 26.09.04.11_M2 radio, so you would assume that Vodafone know what they're doing and have used that radio for a reason. I'm using that one now and it has good reception and battery life (although I'm with Optus. There's only so much a radio can do to help out poor Vodafail )
In the end though, if you're comfortable with the process you should test a couple out because it might be different for your phone

Yeah, ended up running his CFS kernel with 2-way recording.
Yep seen that thread, ended up running 12.65.60.29_26.14.04.28_M for now, just because it has some good reports.
Haha I know, vodafone is terrible, just had a cheap plan which did what I want with the phone I wanted at the time
It's stupid that in UK vodafone is rather good, and alot of other places. *sigh*
Thanks though, may go through and test them if I don't like how this radio goes..

No worries mate. The only reason I'm using my current radio at the moment is because I saw some DHD's were shipped with it here, so I thought I'd give it a go to see if it makes a difference to call quality. I found the 26.13.04.19_M was a bit dodgy on the call quality although battery life was very good. Let me know how your one goes, I might consider another change!

Yeah you should check out blackice, and the other CM7 mods, there's some good tweaks and improvements made in all of them. And battery life is amazing

Hi, I am using CM7.1 Stable at the moment. But with stock kernel and 26.13.04.19 radio. I had 26.14.04.28 installed on my DHD before, but found it drains too much battery (I might be wrong through and the culprit could be some of my apps or setting.)
Could you please tell me how it goes in your DHD? Battery life good?
Just want to see if it is the radio or the apps caused battery drain.
I tried the stock one. Works well. The regional stock one.

The battery is draining fairly fast, going to test the stock one you're using against the one I'm using at the moment.
I'm using 26.14.04.28 at the moment and it's the best so far. However, I'm not sure whether with different radio shouldn't come different RIL to prevent battery drains (and where to get such RILs for CM).

An update for you.
My most recent battery tests have had crazy good results. I got an overnight drain of about 0.3% per hour!
The setup is:
Radio: 26.09.04.11_M2
RIL: 2.2.1003G
Kernel: LordModUEv8.6-CFS-b5
ROM: a recent BlackICE KANG
So if you're getting high drain still, you could give this a try. I won't be changing anything for a while, I don't want to lose these amazing results!

No worries. Keep in mind that radios act differently for every location so your mileage may vary. But I hope it's a winning combo for you!
@maatsby, i have the same config like your's, but with the 26.14.04.28M the internet connection is faster than 26.09.04.11M2. I seek issues but don't find. Just the ril in g mode to get in the folder blackice isn't exist imo.
