Hello all,
I work for a company which uses android htc g1's with data collection software at events around the us. we currently have to install the software and configure each phone individually which can take a long time considering we have 100s of phones. Is there a way i can create an nbh file, like the dreaimg.nbh, which has the system, radio, boot, etc on it so i can just deploy the phone by flashing that file, i've looked around and haven't seen a way to create the file, also we would ideally like to do this without having to root the phone, and I know when i flash the dreaimg.nbh to downgrade the phone it doesn't need root access.
Thanks

First of all I apologies because my thread isn't really phone related. But I saw that some members have experience with magellan gps devices, like Roadmate.
Triton are new GPS handled devices from Magellan. They run WINCE 5.0 Core and have custom shell(similar structure like Roadmate devices).
Issue that I have is that during upgrade of firmware power went down on my Desktop PC and flashing process gone bad. Now I can power up device but there is no connectivity to PC(shell uses special drivers to connect to PC, which now are probably corrupted or what so ever).
So what I would like to now is somebody can explain to me is it possible to change somehow startup process, or something similar. I think that word "cooking" is used to describe process of editing OS image to add, replace, modify OS. I tried some of tools for editing but I'm not sure where I'm making mistakes because I can't even get dump of files from OS image. I again say it is WinCE 5.0 CORE. I tried looking with hex editor but I can't find any reference to mgmShell.exe(that is name of shell exe). I would be very thankful if somebody could explain me these things to me because then I would probably be able to copy files back(I would add FileManCE or MortScript and I figured out way of applying OS image from SD Card) from SD card to internal storage and restore my unit.
If there is anybody interested I will put somewhere whole update package from Magellan. It contains OS image in bin format.
Again I apologies but I'm very desperate to restore my unit , and as I can see this only place with enough knowledge to help me. Sorry.
Hi all,
I have an ASUS R600 GPS running WinCE 5.0 core. I unlocked it using AsusPocket (ASUS customized version of MioPocket to keep things such as bluetooth) and everything seemed fine.
However I'm running against a "low memory" errors when running certain navi software such as Navigon and iGo. The device has 64 Mb of RAM which should be plenty for these, as my cheap Omnitech has the same amount and has no problems.
With help of MioPocket guys, I traced it down to a massive \Windows in this device's ROM. It is like 25 Mb as they dumped not only every dll they could find there, but also eg a lot of big wav and bmp files. Couple wav files are close to 1Mg each! Since according to these folks \Windows just gets copied from ROM to RAM on startup, I end up with far less free memory to play with than I'd like.
I'm new to ROM cooking but with some help I'm sure I could do it. To keep things very simple I was thinking of just replacing these big wav files with a small one. This way the file count and names wouldn't change and I wouldn't run a risk of ever running into a "file not found" condition. I really don't care if on startup the device plays a simple "ding" as opposed to 20 sec sound. Since soft that I want actually runs and only gets into low memory condition on more complex route recalculation or reality view screens, I think this would be enough to get me over the hurdle. Of course, any checksums will need to be regenerated as needed.
So, at this point I have downloaded upgrade ROM images for this device. Is that something that can be disassembled, modified as described above, and put back together? I tired naively unleashing dumprom on one of these .bin files, but got back "unable to determine loading offsets" error. I guess I shouldn't be surprised as at this point I don't know what I'm doing...
Can anybody offer any help to me? With all the amazing things I read on this site people doing with ROM modifications, it looks like what I'm trying to do should be a walk in the park. Am I right trying to go from upgrade .bin file? Or should I get some tools to read off the device? Please help.
Btw. if anybody'd like to peek at this upgrade bin, it can be downloaded here: hxxp://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?modelname=R600&SLanguage=en-us, in the firmware section, version 4.3.0 and version 4.8.0 for NA users. Unfortunately no direct link.
Thanks in advance

Hi.
I installed a starburst ROM for someone but they are not technically minded so I was wondering if there was a way to restrict the user to not give any app super user so it acts like stock ROM but with all the looks of the custom rom. I don't want them breaking anything unintentionally!
Thank you.
Tell them to not **** around with it? You can't do stuff like that with custom roms. That is the whole point. If you want it to be "idiot-proof" then install a stock rom or even an RUU. Prob defeating the purpose of what your asking but still.
Ok so I downloaded the most convenient rom from shared roms and it only comes as an exe. When I run it on my Windows 7 x64 machine I just get an error message. I get the same error message when i run it on the xp virtual machine.
I look in the temp folder and I don't get a zip but a folder with a bunch if .ini files and a .cab file.
How do I install this???
Thanks!
If it's not a rom designed specifically for your phone (and operator) then you'll need to make a goldcard - GIYF.
Would of been nice to have the error posted but seems like it is the CID issue. Just make a Goldcard but remember to backup the SD card first.
I know how to install zips but this exe is confusing me.
When I run this I get an error before I see any action, but looking in %temp% I do get the files I mentioned before so it looks like the files are being extracted but are not being transferred.
I haven't found anything on the forums about this (I have searched) so forgive me if it's a basic question. Is it possible to either:
1) Dump all data on a mango phone (in my case, a Samsung Focus, no interop-unlock) to a file on my computer, or alternatively
2) Access the data stored in the umpteen files created during a WP7 backup.
If anyone knows how to do either of these things (without interop unlocking -- I have data I need to pull off, but my firmware is too old to get interop unlocked, and I get error messages when I try to manually update the firmware), it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Beakin
Note: edited to clarify
I doubt it's even possible *with* interop-unlock.
1) A native app could map a large region of memory, but the WinCE kernel uses process isolation (same as every other modern OS) so there's no way for one app to access the full physical memory.
2) They're encrypted with a key that appears to be stored in the device itself. Nobody has yet figured out how to reverse this encryption.

On #1, I should have been more specific -- I meant dump the phone's storage; what's in non-volatile memory, not RAM.
Still no without interop-unlock, then - standard apps don't have the privileges to access the filesystem (aside from a few very specific locations, like their isolated storage folder). That probalby means no access to the storage device itself either, although I admit to not knowing how that works on CE (NT or Linux, but that's it). If the app was initially sideloaded you can use the Isolated Storage Explorer to pull files from that app specifically, but if it's a marketplace app or something built-in like the SMS store, no such luck.
Of course, you can get more permissions if you can call into a driver - which is what ID_CAP_INTEROPSERVICES allows you to do, and ID_CAP_INTEROPSERVICES is why you need interop-unlock. I'd suggest you focus on figuring out why you can't interop-unlock and fixing that. Unfortunately I can't really help you there; I don't have a Samsung phone and the steps to IU an HTC phone are very different.

Thanks for the clarification. I've spent the last month trying to figure out how to get the interop unlock working on my phone to no avail, which is why I was changing tact by asking this. Oh well, back to the old drawing board.
BTW if you or anyone know how to take a windows phone firmware CAB file and alter it (removing items) I'd appreciate it. My problem with updating the firmware is that I get a "file name conflict" error pointing to specific items in the CAB. At the risk of bricking my phone, at this point I'd try removing those items and installing it anyway.
Editing a CAB is easy; Win7 Explorer can open them natively and many third-party tools also exist. Editing a CAB so that it can still be isntalled may take a little bit more effort, but the important point is that as soon as you edit it, you'll invalidate the signature on the CAB. That means it will no longer install through the default update-OS at all. On HTC phones, you can use RSPL (or HSPL) to install custom updates, but on a phone with a retail bootloader (such as a Samsung), you can only install official updates.
Hi All,
After update to Lollipop 5.0.2 I lost some audio files.
The update to 5.0.2 was a normal "update" so I had no idea I was going to lose data, and I did not make an additional backup.
As it turns out, I'm not the only one who is missing some files. A friend of mine lost almost all downloaded MP3 songs.
For me it's not something I downloaded, but recorded. It's a few .wav files, and I really like them back!
And Yes, I'm willing to pay for it.
I have a HTC M8, but during root process, I saw it was telling me it's a M7 (???)
So, the phone is rooted.
I tried several recovery solutions (all just reading, not writing) and some can find some files, like a facebook .png that I recognise.
This means, there is still (useful) data on there.
How can I recover my files?
Is this just a HTC problem, or are there also other phone vendors who delete user data?
I hope.... and pray... and ask here

Have you tried Dr. Fone?
I've had good success with diskdigger

Yes, I have.
I am confused with the files it finds.
A lot of files, all corupt, none of it useful data for me.
I do know quite a bit about data recovery on a normal hard drive, but almost no info how it works on NAND flash.
I was not aware I had 105 times a .mov files on my phone, 3,5 GB... I dod not make them, or download them.
As dr Fone can not help me...
I am trying diskdigger.
This does find files, but also loads of files I was not aware of. (and not the files I need)
A lot of .zip files, and the strange thing is that they all seem to have the same data structure. (see zip.jpg)
Can any one tell me why I have all them .zip files and apk's?
Thanks!
