wmwifirouter screwed up TP2 - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Well, I wanted to be able to share my phones internet connection with my laptop via WiFi, so I downloaded the HTC Wifi Internet Sharing cab and installed that, but it didnt work. My laptop would not connect for some reason.
So, I tried to download the trial of wmwifirouter, it did its thing, restarted the device, then I set it up and turned it on, and tried to connect, and it did the same thing, which leads me to beleive this is a problem with my PC and it's wireless configuraiton and not the phone.
So, I go to reinstall wmwifirouter and then I get a warning about bttray.exe not being a valid win32 application. Soft reset, and the same warning pops up, followed by an SMS error message saying "The message could not be sent, Retry/Cancel?" and after hitting cancel ~25 times that finally went away.
Looking at my com manager, bluetooth has been totally disabled.
I read some into on ppcgeeks with the same bttray issue and it said to look for two DLL files in the windows folder, and either delete or rename them using Resco. Those files werent present, I had nothing to delete. I beleive those are TomTom files, I didn't try to install TomTom yet, it was wmwifirouter that caused this issue.
So, anyway, I had to do a hard reset and use Microsoft myphone service to restore my phone.
Just curious if anyone else has had this happen with wmwifirouter on the touch pro 2? Was there another way for me to fix this other then the hard reset (Just so I know for the future)?

I use wmwifirouter and it work great! i get speeds of up to 2meg with a touch pro 2! i put the rar folder in the micro sd and instaled the program on the card and worked fine!

I had the same type of issues, WMWifiRouter would not work or uninstall, and initally HTC's Wifi sharing would not work. I had to hard reset, install Assasins Lament Certs, now the HTC Wifi sharing works well. AssisinsLament has both the certs and Wifi sharing together. Good Luck.

I have used WifiRouter with my HTC Fuze and now my HTC Tilt 2 with no difficulty. Everything works flawlessly...I would try to contact WifiRouter regarding to you issue. They are pretty good of responding to your questions regarding to thier product.

Sync problems - Activesync does not detect device (XDAIIs)

Dear All
Please help: I have an O2 XDA IIs which MS Activesync 4.1 does not detect, despite all my efforts during the last few days (I also have an old iPAQ 1940 which Activesync detects fine).
The XDA is from work, so could it be that it is somehow locked, and if so, how can I unlock it?
Also, as an alternative, can I sync the XDA with my PC via Bluetooth through the iPAQ's?
Any ideas will be gratefully received!
Many thanks in advance,
L
Hi there,
I've Looked through hundreds of forums and although I have seem similiar I haven't found a resolution to my exact problem.
Due to the fact that I've been trying to resolve this issue on and off all day it's probably something really simple...
HISTORY
PDA
Was running WM2003SE on a Xda IIS.
PC
ActiveSync 3.8 on Laptop with Windows 2000 SP4 and all updates. Laptop on a home LAN with router. No firewall software and have since removed all Spyware removal software, (after doing one last scan).
My Task \ Issue \ Problem
I wanted to to the upgrade to WM2005 and followed all the usual procedures. The one mistake I may have made was to install the very very latest 4.1 Activesync without removing 3.8. However at this stage my XDA was still on 2003SE and synced perfectly with 4.1 Activesync.
I performed the upgrade to WM2005 including patches and as far as the XDA is concerned everything appears to be working.
Activesync however doesn't work. Via the USB cradle Windows 2000 detected a device and under device properties it's was listed as Generic RNDIS, it's now listed as a windows mobile based-device. I don't have an entry in my network connections, although I think this only happens with Windows XP. I've tried uninstalling Activesync, removing the rapi.dll file, reinstalling etc, I even did the former and removed entries within the registry and running a registry fixer but to no avail.
I then decided the Bluetooth route but cannot sync via this method either. I can actually succesfully connect from PC to XDA and vice versa but cannot use these connections for Activesync.
I have another Hard Drive for this Laptop which I use for testing. I can simply shut down, swap drives and boot again to another build. The other build is also Windows 2000 with SP4 and pretty much nothing else. I've installed Activesync 4.1 onto this machine, plugged in the cradle and everything works fine.
So..... I know the XDA is fine, The cradle's okay and Activesync 4.1 actually works with my XDA OS. The problem is it doesn't work on one particular build. I believe this is actually a Activesync issue but due to some form of conflict with my build. It's currently out of the question for me to rebuild so my mission is to find out what's conflicting.
Just to summarise though..... Activesync 4.1 was working fine, I upgraded XDA to WM2003 to WM2005 and then it stopped. The other harddisk proves that Activesync does actually work with my XDA.
Pheeeew...... I hope somebody doesn't suggest lack of information....
So the reason for the post?? Well if anybody else is having frustrations, (which I'm sure I'm not the only one judging my my searching), your not alone.
I think a lot of people's problems have actually been resolved by the latest version of Activesync, (4.1), and other people have resolved by sorting out the main culprit of firewalls.
For me though I'll keep searching..... if any of you can think of any other ideas I can use for diagnosing the problem I'll appreciate it.
Thanks in advance..... sorry for the waffle.....
RESOLVED
Okay.... During further searching I noticed people mentioning VPN clients interfering.
I did have SecureRemote VPN installed which I use for work purposes.
I uninstalled SecureRemote but had to uninstall & re-install Activesync again. This time it's working.....
I will, (but not tonight), re-install the VPN client and see what happens. If Activesync countinues to work then, apart from being happy, it's worth making a note of.
If it doesn't work then I'll start to investigate why...... I know the new active sync does some form of IP connection but I cannot accept that it won't work with VPN's installed.
use windows XP (SP2) ...
first install the activesyn and then restart your computer.
then attach your pocket pc with usb cable.
and try to connect.
its works for me...

?? With newROM ActiveSync never wants to make partnRships ??

Anybody could help me?
I tried everything.
Install and uninstall ActiveSync.
HardReset, Reset....
With the new i-Mate ROM my laptop doesn't want to connect my PPC.
It starts to connect, and it seems almost ok (I can surf between the folders of my PDA, but when I click StorageCard or ExtendedRom folders it starts thinking forever), but it just tries, never connects, never gives me a chance to make a partnership.
Does anybody know what is this problem?
THX,
Tuning
One more thing:
With the same settings on PC but with an older ROM everything is fine.
Help!!!
My girlfriend has a XDA2i which has no problem syncing to the same PC. I get the same message you get " retrieving settings" which hangs for ever until I disconnect.
Another interesting thing in my discussion with myself:
Through IrDA everything works fine!!!!!
Why is that???,
Why it doesn't connect to my pda through USB???
H E L P ! ! !
Problem Solved.
Thanks to me.
Sygate Personal Firewall Pro is guilty.
(Although I setup everything what Microsoft wrote)
It seemed ok, but the problem dissapeard just when I uninstalled the application.
I'm getting crazy...
Microsoft Feardows
Sounds to me like you diidn't have all the ports you needed open, if you happen to recall what ports you had open, and post them perhaps I could spot what you missed.
Can't really say I know anything about your firewall.

You may have right, but I opened ports which Microsoft said.
Do you know which ports are these?
The interesting is if you are right, why did work my other Jasjar or with another ROM??? Another ROM uses anorther PORTS???????
what was the resolution to this? I have exactly the same problem having just installed the ROM upgrade. What ports do you have enabled?

Activsync 4.2 doesn't sync anymore

Hello all,
You've got a nice forum here, that I stumbled upon yesterday... and already I've got a little problem , where I hope you can help me with. (I've searched the forum already in the Artemis section, but didn't find anything appropriate to help me, so if I missed a solution for my little problem, I'm sorry for posting it again)
Here I go:
Since today my activsync won't syncronize with my HTC P3300 anymore.
There is a connection, but no syncronisation (I mean I can explore the folders on my phone, but it never stops syncronizing). The Optionsmenu in Activsync is also blanked out, so I can't change any settings (anymore).
The problem occured when I changed some settings that I would like to sync also. (My contacts and emails where not set to be synced, so I activated them earlier today) after that the activsync windows on my desktop only shows that he is syncronizing, but never stops -> As I tried to figure out a solution, I removed my connections that were stored on my phone (I've got 2 'syncaccounts': work and home), and tried to create another 'syncaccount',...alas. Before that I tried to softreset my phone,... also had no effect.
My activsync status (on the phone) says that the server can not be reached, and that there might be a network problem (but why can I explore my folders on the phone then?). So I tried to fix (with the standard repair-option) my lan setting for the phone on my desktop, but that didn't do the trick either...
I really don't know what happenend, and I hope that the forum's wisdom can help me out here.
Thanks in advance,
Leniad
Never mind,
resolved it myself. Hardreset the PPC and installed activesync 4.5
Now it works again.
Still wonder what caused the problem?

TOMTOM GO and WM6 (DUN)

Microsoft are going to release WM6 with the ability to enable (DUN) for legacy devices, I.e. TOMTOM GO series... are there any cooks interested in releasing a ROM with this option enabled?
this would be great. if this was done i would have nothing to complain about with wm6
Same here, it's just the final thing I need for a perfect WM6 ROM.
One vote more
Same, here. I also tried to use DUN on WM6 with TomTom Go. But apparently WM6 lacks DUN support in Bluetooth Stack.
Does anyone have a fix for this or is there any good WM6 Rom out there with Bluetooth DUN support?
Yes-Sir-Eee
I would love to see that, my 910 won't use the services without DUN...
I was browsing earlier and I think I saw a .cab file in the Wizard forums for PAN support in Windows Mobile 6, however I don't think that anyone said that it worked.
Really?
Point me in the right direction & I'll happily give it a whizz...
Cheers,

I downloaded the CAB from here, and installed on my Wizard. It says it installed but does not work.
Here's some more info:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=307235&page=2
I can confirm this fix
Used trinity files posted by MuN on the above thread.
heres what i did
Installed cab - soft reset
pasted all files from zip in windows folder - soft reset
then unpaired tomtom 910 and reparied, hey presto it found DUN support
Perfect, have been waiting for a fix for this
I've run the .cab and copied the files into the Windows directory, however I'm having a real headache trying to configure a data connection.
Which device to choose for TomTom GO 910?
@the.drone
I followed your instructions and now my TomTom reports that my phone has DUN capability. Problem is HTC TyTN or HTC Hermes ist not listed as phone in the phone list and automatic configuration does not work.
Can you please give instructions which phone to use or how to configure the data connection manually? Because DUN support which can't be configured is as good as no DUN support.
Thanks a lot.
Marc
it just worked first time automaticaly with mine, maybe i was just a fluke but it found the data coonection first time on 3g
How can I find out my TomTom thinks my phone has DUN?
Edit: when I try to add my TomTom to my Hermes, it only brings up a handsfree tick box, when in Windows Mobile 5 I think it also brought up two additional tick boxes. Any ideas if this is following the path to success of if I've screwed up?
Double post.
DUN Doin' it
Will be giving it a go first thing in the morning.
Cheers for the update, will post results....
Bargain!
You eff-ing ROCK... DUN on WM6.
My TomTom 910 loves you!!
Hoo-haa!
How did you get it to work?
So can someone share how they did it?
I followed the instructions and it now finds my ttg 300, and says it has the services - but can't set up the actual DUN connection either manually or automatically!
Any ideas?
Matt
I really am sorry to be a pain in the butt, but I'll outline what I've done.
1). Paired my Hermes up with my TomTom 910.
2). Run the .cab.
3). Soft reset.
4). Copied the files into the Windows directory of my Hermes via the storage card.
5). Soft reset.
6). Repaired my Hermes and TomTom 910 after having deleted the previous connection. At this point it says "The following features were found: Hands-free calling, Wireless data connection, Phonebook".
At this point I try and setup a data connection that it hits the fan. It's really annoying because it feels like I'm falling at the final hurdle. I also wondered if I was struggling because of an issue with connecting to the T-Mobile network, however am I right in thinking that mccreath's using a T-Mobile GPRS contract SIM connection?

File Transfer / Ubuntu

Has anyone successfully connected their WM6.1 HTC S620 to Ubuntu?
Simple file transfer would be a good starting point.
ill try tonight...
I gave it a shot but ummm let me see what is going on.

For simple file transfer could you use WM5torage and it gets recognized as a flash???
WM5torage is your best bet for file transfer. Multisync with the SynCE plugin are supposed to work for contacts and calendar, but the gods would have to smile on you, the starts be aligned, and you'd have to hold your mouth just right to get it working.
Almost forgot....obex in ubuntu (but not kubuntu) works with the Dash over bluetooth. In kubuntu, I think it's a one-way trip, but I can't remember which (the PC or the phone) that can't receive.
Not to hijack this thread but has anyone had any luck getting the dash to work with the internet sharing with Ubuntu via usb. I was never able to get this to work unless I am having one of my dense moments. My only source of internet at home right now is the dash. (Perhaps there is a driver I can download through another computer with an internet connection and save to a flash drive). I've been meaning to ask this question a couple of weeks ago but have since been busy and forgot. I figured I would ask here first before hitting up the Ubuntu forums.
I don't remember the results I got while playing with it, but as soon as you connect the Dash to Ubuntu via usb, it detects it as another network device. As far as the actual "tunnel" you need to set up to get tcp/ip over the link was always outside my realm of interest, so I never really messed with it.
to transfer file, i use bluetooth and ftp, no wm5storage
bluetooth is the best for ease use! works perfect in ubuntu 8.04. just right click file and send by bluetooth to phone.
ftp its good for complex transfer (multiple files, folders, etc). I use resco explorer on windows mobile and proftpd+gui on ubuntu
WM5torage unmount memory card from windows mobile to mont on usb. Because i use memory card to store emails/webcache, i got some freak errors using wm5storage. (like moving memory card to "\memory card 2" folder)
i do not sync anything (email, contacts, notes or whatever).. but i do backups (from time to time) using ppcpimbackup (not a smartphone app but works [bugy gui] )
I need test ogg sync or something to sync with my google account. did you try something like?
Thanks!
Thanks everyone. WM5storage works a treat over a USB connection.
Tried connecting over bluetooth but I got an OBEX error. Will take a longer look at it when I get chance.
hi @all,
i use WM5Storage for filetransfer with UBUNTU.
Funambol for sync my KAISER over HSDPA works without problems. You only have to install the funambol-programm on your PPC and config the account on myFunambol.
http://my.funambol.com
http://www.funambol.com/
The Evolution-mailclient in UBUNTU can be synced with myFunambol too. you need to install this app:
https://launchpad.net/genesis-sync
If you flash your PPC 2x a week like me, funambol is the best, because it configures by installing automaticaly the mailaccount on the device. only need to put in username and password
Thanks Acidd.
The pointer to funambol is a useful workaround for the 6.1 SMTP problem.
Where can i get a nice Wm5torage version?
The stuff i have does not want to work on my WM6 Samsung i600, i get some error?
if you dont get a connection with wm5storage, you need to check the two points in the menu-->troubleshooting --> "disable concurrency" and "disable RNDIS on activate".
i dont know where i downloaded my version of wm5storage but its V1.8.
