Is the hardware in our GSM phones for the 3.5mm jack? So all we would have to do is drill a hole somewhere to access it.
Unfortunately that would be no. We are stuck as is.

Hi,
In the past I always had one common problem with my previous phones (palm treo's) and that is with the 3.5mm jack. Apparently I found out that this is a hardware issue by fixing it myself. The metal (copper, apparently malleable) that's supposed to bend back to its original position whenever you disconnect your 3.5mm plug never did. So I bent it back and it fixed everything. Of course it voided my warranty but at least I didn't have to wait for weeks.
Right now I'm thinking twice about plugging in headphones on my desire. I'm not sure if it got the same old crap inside. Maybe someone here knows if the headphone jack is now dependable?
Thanks!
I've opened my phone to fix some buttons and i got to say...the headphone jack just looks pretty standard to me...
On the G1 we did not have an option for a 3.5mm Headphone/speaker without using the adapter with built in speaker.
Now the EVO has both a 3.5mm Jack and a standard Micro USB Jack. When I tried to play music through my car stereo, the 3.5mm Jack on my double sided 3.5mm Jack cancels out the speaker, so I can't use the speaker on the phone.
I know it sounds complicated, but for normal talking, can I use the 3.5mm Jack with a standard Headset?
And for the car, would I need a special 3.5mm ---> 3.5mm (with built in speaker?) or do I use another MicroUSB--->3.5mm Adapter.

I'm looking at buying the overpriced desktop dock when it's available again, but I use a moshi moshi desktop phone since I'm on the phone all day quite frequently and holding it up to my ear kills me. (I don't like regular bluetooth headsets for a number of reasons as well.)
My question is simple: can someone with the dock (and 4.0.3+, apparently) test if a microphone-enabled headset works with that port? On the Nexus One, the port wasn't even physically able to take a 3.5mm with mic, so I still had to plug the phone into the top of the phone. On the desktop dock, that's impossible since the jack is concealed by the dock.
Thanks in advance!
Just looking at the dock pictures you can see it's the same as the Nexus One, it completely blocks the 3.5mm headphone jack.

That's because the dock has a headphone jack. But does that jack work with a microphone headset?
Apparently, they labeled that jack as headphone, no mention of mic or combo port, so i think we can assume it'snot supported.
My headphone jack on my tablet is shorting out. I can only get audio if I wiggle my headphone cable. Is there a way to fix this? Or does anyone know if it's possible to change the jack all together? I was wondering where I can find a part.

I had this problem on my phone, and it was the same with my old walkman headphones, yet they worked fine on the PC. I bought new headphones and they work perfectly. So not quite sure exactly, maybe the socket on my phone is a little loose, and on my old headphones the metal on the jack plug had worn down enough to cause problems. So maybe different headphones might be your answer.
I don't need a longer cord. The deal here is that I have a Samsung Galaxy s5 and I bought a case for it that I love in every other respect--but the opening for the 3.5" headphone jack won't let the jack go in far enough to make a good contact. I don't want to cut either the case or the headphone jack surrounding. If anyone knows of an extender for the metal jack part itself, I would like to hear about it.
I never heard about something like what you need (an extender for the actual metal part of the jack). Most probably is is physically impossible to achieve. What you could do, is get a short cable extension and trim that cable's jack.
