i ve used blackberry, sonyericsson and motorola phones before.
this is my first htc and windows mobile phone.
and im not very happy with the sound quality of this earpiece.
i still have a good ear and can definitely tell its a quality earpiece it sounds clean just not crisp.
the volume is all the way up but the upper frequency band is missing.
its very hard to understand what people say.
blackberry had a great feature called audio booster which let let you bump up low or high frequencies and it made a big difference.
on this phone i cant find any eq settings for earpiece at all
look around and search, there are a lot of similar complaints

T-Mobile? If so, they neutered the earpiece to comply with something-or-another, search around for the file to drop into \windows to fix it.

Hi.
Somehow my AT&T Rhodium has a VERY LOW mic gain. It shows in very low audio when I use the phone (I listen OK, the third parties do hear me very low).
If I use the voice recorder, the recordings have very low audio level as well.
Now I have an Energy ROM, but the problem is the same if I go back to the shipped AT&T ROM.
Anyone can help me out in boosting the mic gain ?
Thanks in advance.
David.-
i would say your MIC is broken. as you already pointed out. it's not a radio problem and it's not a rom problem. There suppose to be two mikes in rhodium, for the echo cancellation. maybe one of them is dead. mike is not an expensive thing, but you need to search for it, find out what type is it and get similar. I think if you will go search for rhodium microphone, it would be more costly.

Not a good solution

Hi.
First, sorry for my english flaws. I´m not a native english speaker (my native language is spanish).
I do live in Chile, and around here there is ZERO possibility to get a replacement mic. I can easily import one from the states, if I find one, but so far I have not found it, so I thought a software increase in the gain may at least solve part of the problem (at least meanwhile).
Thanks.
David.-
the joke wasn't about the language, but sorry anyway.
Your english is pretty alright. Mine isn't any better.
My idea was more about getting a mike from an old phone. In a mobile repair shop maybe. Microphone is a generic part. If it will fit by size, it will quite for sure work ok.
don't bother with headset's mics as they are far too big
And as rhodium microphones would be for sure overpriced, I was suggesting you to find out what kind of mike rhodium have, and get a replacement which will fit. Like if you go to mobile shop, they probably would know. then you can get e.g. mic from sonyericsson, anyway if it was kaiser I would say it would fit SE mic. But rhodium I didn't have opened yet.
And don't search "rhodium" but "pro2" as rhodium is chemical element and you'll get rhodium made mikes instead
As for making it lauder, I don't think that's quite possible for 2 reasons.
As you can't amplify digital audio signal, it has to come on maximum level you would use, while still analog, from before A/D so that the dsp can regulate the level from 0 (for maximum) down to whatever -12db. Means it can't go lauder and analog part is on max always. That's the easiest setup. I am not saying it's like that in rhodium, but even if not, second reason is, the phone has an AGC (auto gain control) and that would rise the level itself if it could.

hey dude dont give me others review and link...i can find it dat on googling something...but i want ur opinion about this phone..and also wana confirm that call recording(2 side) is possible in HTC desire..
just reply me about this
So.. what do you want?
You start another thread instead of spending 2secs googling and maybe half an hour reading? :/
Sorry... but did you even bother clicking on A|ex' link? The first link has a bunch of reviews from other pages.. so why not bother reading them instead of asking a question which may have been answered before?...
To your questions..
I don't think recording is hardware specific.. so I believe it's an Android app you're using..? and as the x10 is on Android 1.6 and the Desire now on 2.2.. I believe recording should also work on the Desire and even other devices..
I didn't try it though. So don't blame me if it doesn't work like you imagined or doesn't even work at all..
The speaker volume is ok for me too. But maybe using a headset solves this issue for you? Again I can't compare to your x10 as I didn't test it..
And if you consider the audiohack I've read from your "low volume @ x10"-thread be aware of the fact, that the N1/Desire currently seem to be incompatible with this method of increasing the volume what I've read?
And again, do some research pls.. As I saw now, most threads you started seem to ask for links or step-by-step tutorials for things already discussed.. and I don't think everybody is patient enough to answer the same question for the 100. time, just because someone seem to be too lazy to read a bit more :/
And a "thank you" to A|ex would have been nice too, as he tried to point you in the right direction (I think so).
- battery life (1 -2 days )
- optical track pad
+ everything else
in call recording, don't have a use for it, so never tried it.
You can't say that the optical track pad is bad. It's just different from the track ball :/
I myself prefer the track pad over the ball..
Before I forget.. I'd like to mention that the camera seems to need some tweakings in my opinion.. just because of the colours.. but it's all to your likings
I like the optical track pad aswell. I can't find anyhing bad about the device except the sound from the speaker...
I remember back in the good old days when I had a Nokia N73, the speaker sound whas GREAT, and it even had stereo speakers! Then when I got a HTC Diamond I was almost shocked about the crappy sound quality, the Desire has a bit better sound than the Diamond but far from good.

Indeed, I can't believe the poor speaker quality. Some phones that cost 1/4 of the desire can overshadow this device.
And, yes, other than that it's excellent.
thank you guys
thank u guys..
but my idea is not clear yet about call recording yet...
i think there is no two way call recording in HTC desire yet...
I got 2 links to share with you.. the first one is about (I guess?) asking the same question some time ago.. but focus more on the legal issue.. which isn't quite unimportant I believe..:
http://androidforums.com/t-mobile-g1/3228-possible-record-your-phone-conversations.html
The second one is a link to an app you might consider testing? Or asking somebody to test it..
http://de.androlib.com/android.application.com-opensystem-callrecord-jjDw.aspx
What I'm still wondering is... what you really want? 2way-recording? You mean ingoing and outgoing calls? Your AND your partners voice?
I don't have any need for recording phone conversations.. so I did not bother spending more time researching that topic... just like you I guess?.. but IF I read your first post correct, you said that there are several apps for your x10 allowing call recording..
My question now would be: Why would those recording apps, which are on Android, run on your x10, but not any other phone? If I recall correctly, both devices run Android? (different versions though)
Either way, try to TEST the desired phone before buying it.. reading reviews and asking for flaws is a good start, but research should just start here.. and continue

I placed an order for the eartones this am.......I will let you know when they arrive whether they work or not. I emailed iskin and asked if they worked and the rep said they work 100% for mic, volume, everything......same as headset we get with phone.......so heres hoping he wasn't wrong!!
UPDATE..........
So I got the eartones today and they do work great for an apple earbud replacement! HOWEVER, there is NO volume control........they are not even capable of it so not sure why the rep at iskin told me on two occasions that volume control works???? They sound far better than apple earbuds and the mic works great on the S3 as well as answering and declining calls, playing and pausing music. That was my beef with the apple ones as the mic didn't work on the GS3.

Yeah thats exactly what I thought too, but then it said it supports the S3 on the site and so I decided to inquire about it working and they claim it does......at any rate I should know is I just wasted my money in a few days.
Do u have a link or model number for the earphones
Yeah so I went to the home page then clicked on shop. Then clicked on vibe under Samsung on the left side. This brought up a page that has the GS3 cases (vibe and aura) as well as it stating the eartones are compatible with the phone too. So yeah the weird thing is there is only one type......not a model for the iPhone and galaxy........so don't worry, I, like u are quite skeptical. But I guess we will see. I still have the email from them stating they work exactly like the Samsung set we get with the phone so I guess I should have no problem returning them if they don't work.

I am really crossing my fingers cause I hate in ear headsets......they never fit me no matter how many tips I try.
"Hello Garret,
Thank you for your question.
The eartones absolutely work with the samsung galaxy s3 in regards to the functionality you require.
Playing music...answering and ending calls and the volume buttons are all fully functional.
Hope to see your order soon!
Thanks!

My goodness is it too much to ask for a decent set of ear buds with working mic, volume control!?!?! I just need something that doesn't block out all noise around me.......since I use them for work. As much as the apple buds sucked, they suited my needs exactly! I was very disappointed that they didn't work in the GS3. Any other bud style suggestions?
Thanks xda members!!

Do those have volume control? Probably not as it seems that is always the kicker. Thanks for the suggestion......they are less than $10 so I will likely buy a pair just to try out.
The link I give for black earphone have volume control for asking galaxy s3
Guys, I thought I would post this here as well so you can get my review for the eartones........
Hey fellow xda members I just wanted to share my take on the iSkin Eartones that I just received today. These are great for anyone who doesn't like in-ear headsets. The fit in your ear is very similar to the apple earbuds which for me was a huge plus because I use my headset mostly for business calls etc while I drive (which in-ear were too unsafe as they block out all outside sound). The sound quality is actually very good for an earbud. There is good lows and highs and there is an included set of foam covers to put over the tips which would give you better sealing of the ear to further enhance the sound for the music junkies out there.
They have some flex in the earbud part which allows it to fit very well in different ear shapes.
The sound quality on the other end of a phone conversation is extremely good according to my business partners.
The only downside for me is that there is no volume control. This is a letdown since the rep I spoke with at iSkin prior to ordering these said to me on two occasions that they had volume control and that it worked flawlessly with the GS3.......not sure where he was pulling that info from but he is wrong.
They are $39.99 for www.iSkin.com
Also, the shipping was super fast. I am in Calgary AB and they shipped form Toronto to me in less than a day!
Feel free to ask me any questions you may have!

Yep........I ordered a pair of those........so we will see how they work and sound. The guys at iSkin said they would fully refund my shipping and price for the Eartones if I didn't like them since they misinformed me about the volume control. I will likely keep them though as they do sound pretty good. But I have my fingers crossed the HTC ones will work for everything and not sound like crap.
Hi there people, I am looking for to buy a nice set of in-ear headphone for my HTC one X, however I have realized by trying a cuple that i have here at home, the sound is actually really bad when I use a different set of headphones, nevertheless when i use the original ones that came with the phone it sounds better, but, to be honest for me they do not seem to be the best ones, I am always using the same app for music which is PowerAmp which I really love. Now what I need to know is that if some other users have experienced the same situation, not to say problem, cause i really do not want to buy a new and perhaps a expensive set of in-ear headphone if they are going to be as crappy as the rest i have tried so far. Any sugestions, advices are always welcome, and, if you also want to share and recomend your experiences with other headphones i am always willing to read about it.

Hello mates.
Is there any way to test if the phone calling quality and volume are correct?.
Being this a phone with great audio, i feel that call quality is a little muddy with voices not being deep enough to understand every word and the volume is just average and not very loud.
Connecting earphones the volume feels to be only above average and not loud or very loud.
Is it just me feeling that only the speakers of this phone are loud and great quality?, And that calls and music with earphones is lacking quality and volume?.
Im running on Global Version, not Global Rom on chinese version.
Thanks ?
Edit:
