Hello everybody,
I have a problem and hope so much, somebody can help me...
Im from Germany and have bought a TP2 with english Keyboard Layout (QWERTY).
When I change settings to German Layout, all the FN-Symbols on the Keys are wrong...
Is there a chance to add only "ä ö ü" to the english Layout?
If possible, on the "a o u" Keys (with FN)?
You are my last hope...! ;-)
Greets,
blowy666
Im not sure but i think you can use this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=554240
Thanks....have installed it, but couldnt find the "Keyboard config"...
Have installed Spb Mobile Shell 3.5.....
This .cab changes fn + a to ä, fn + s to ö and fn + d to å. Im sure there is a easy way to change the å to ü...
This also adds scandic letters to the soft kb. If you want to try to change the å to ü, check and edit ET9RHO~1.001 file.
Thaaaanks....but I think it would be better to have "ö" on FN "O", "ä" on FN "a", and "ü" on FN "u"...
But looks like it is impossible...
Hi,
first of all: congratulations! You're owner of one of the best Phones ever build.
And yes, theres a way to add ä,ö and ü to youre Keyboard:
Use a registry editor and go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Tegic\eT9\IME\KeyboardLayouFiles
Look what filename there is written after the "07FF". (eT9.Rhodium...)
Then you have to use Total Commander or a similar file manager.
Go to the Windows folder, and copy the file to any other folder you like.
Open this file with the normal file manager and Change the Settings to the following:
in Row 2:
{U U.... to {U U U Ü Ü 0x06}
{O O... to {O O O Ö Ö 0x08}
in Row 3:
{A A ... to {A A A Ä Ä 0x0a}
copy the file back in the Windows folder and softreset. Finished.
PS: If you want to have the full german keyboard layout, simple change the filename in the Registry editor at position HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Tegic\eT9\IME\KeyboardLayouFiles
"07FF" to eT9.Rhodium.0407.kmap.txt and softreset. You have then the full german keyboard layout.
Hope I could help you.

Use TotalCommander. It is an file explorer with an good registry editor.
keyboard layout
I just upgraded my qtek 9100 to AKU 2.3 but the slide-out keyboard that I have is in Swedish. I tried to make the changes suggested at
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Changing_Device_Language
but that didn’t work. Has anyone been successful in changing the keyboard language?
I was not able to do it also. Can someone help?
Thanks
It just needs a hard reset
I kept on trying at this and finally after changing the value to 0414 and doing a hard reset by using the stylus in the hole it worked. I went back and tried the 041d and it too worked so I guess the reset was what was needed. Also there is a Swedish keyboard fix circulating but don't use it since it will only work for Ext_ROM ver. 1.3.7.103. Hope this helps someone else!
Can you advise how I can go to the following step?
For German layout (QWERTZ):
HKCU\ControlPanel\Keybd\Locale = 0407 (REG_SZ string)
Thank you in advance.
you need a registry editor
First of all you need to download and install a utility that will allow you to access the registry. There are a number of good freeware applications that will let you do this. Unlike regular windows there is nowhere you can type regedit. I use Total Commander and it can be downloaded from
http://www.ghisler.com/pocketpc.htm
Once you have access to the registry (in total commander you click on the folder named “\\” ) click on registry -- >HKC-- > ControlPanel -- > Keybd . Once under Keybd create a key called Locle . In Total Commander this is done by double clicking on “+Add Value+” Set the name to Locale and select String. Click Ok and then when the value box pops up enter the LCID Hex number like 0407. If you need to change the number highlight the key and click properties.
Don’t forget to reset the machine by pressing the stylus into the reset hole.
Hope this helps.
Thank you very much for the elaborate procedure. I followed every step you wrote and locale = 0407 was sucessfully entered. After reset, the keyboard still did not change to German! I tried many times but the result was the same. Did I do any thing wrong? Many thanks.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\OEM\Qwerty\Layout
Change from Ger Z: 66567 to 66569 (eng Y)
Good luck
I am sucessful!
Thank you very much. I got it now!!

Has anyone see anything on how to remap keys on the Excalibur (assuming it can be done) similar to the relatively easy remaps that could be done on the SP5M and the 8500/smartflip/3125? I looked thru the windows directory and could not see anything to modify that might relate to remapping the explorer key and/or the email key. I would like to remap one of them to the internal voice dialer. I have it set to #9 as a speed dial but would like to remap if possible.
probable solution, to be confirmed
I've found this: (sorry, I have to repeat this sequence)
"Your device Locale - how to change the letters entered when pressing keys on the hardware keyboard.
Change slide-out keyboard layout
If you have a Device from one country, but would like to use the keyboard layout of another, you can change the keyboard's language setting to do so...
For US layout (QWERTY):
HKCU\ControlPanel\Keybd\Locale = 0409 (REG_SZ string)
For German layout (QWERTZ):
HKCU\ControlPanel\Keybd\Locale = 0407 (REG_SZ string)
For French layout (AZERTY):
HKCU\ControlPanel\Keybd\Locale = 040C (REG_SZ string)
For Spanish layout (AZERTY):
HKCU\ControlPanel\Keybd\Locale = 0C0A (REG_SZ string)
For other codes, see: http://www.microsoft.com/globaldev/reference/winxp/xp-lcid.mspx
Note that the values are STRING values, not DWORDs!
"
Alas, it seems to me somewhat doubtable that it be in the HKCU section, having assumed it to be a machine-wide setting. It does not work in either place. Can anybody confirm or correct this setting for smartphones?
Thanks Michael

I thought you wanted to just remap the mail and web keys? The link I posted above explains how to easily accomplish that.

i don't get this tutorial. and i also don't have the lnk files. How to remap on the htc s620 and not on the dash?
I agree. I have a S620 and I don't have the link files either. Can someone please help?
You absolutely have .lnk files on your phone. You just must not be able to see their extensions. It's quite simple. Find the .lnk file that corresponds to the button on the phone you wish to remap. Then drag and drop that .lnk file onto your desktop computer. Now open it with NotePad or a similar text editor. Then change the path to the desired application. Save it, and then drag it back to your device, copying over the previous .lnk shortcut.
I only have the Camera.lnk shortcut. I see the extensions. There is no lnk file for the mail and the internet explorer key.
But maybe if we create them manually? Does anyone with a htc s620 got that working? i am not talking about the t-mobile version.
I tried. It did not seem to worl on my S620.

The tutorial referred above seems to be unaccessible. Could someone copy-paste it here?

You don't have a \Windows\Short_IE.lnk file?
When you change your locale, is it still possible to switch between languages? I.e. have both English and, say, Russian at the same time?

hello, can eney body pleas explain to my how i setup so i get Swedes key layout on my t-Bord agen? eney reg key i need to Chang?.
i haw tested
Go to hklm/software/oem/qwerty/layout/
make sure the hex value is 20409, you probably have 40409.
recommended of crosswind
but it don't help when I'm trying to get Å i get noting, when i try Ö i get arrow down and when i try Ä i get =
im using Windows Mobile "XDA Live" 0.10
@Kinky:
20409 gives you the default US layout. If you want Swedish layout you have to set the value 20414 (hex) for this parameter. This is effective at startup so a soft or Russian reset is required. Russian reset is better as it guarantees that the registry changes have been saved to Flash disk.
Hello. Is this trick for software keyboard or hardware keyboard? I would like to get the norwegian keyboard, but no luck so far.
@BrumBrum74:
20414 is a Nordic QWERTY layout, i.e. the hardware keyboard layout for Finnish, Swedish, Norwegian and Danish. It contains the characters 'å', 'ä', 'æ', 'ø' and 'ö'.
isnt there a file called P_Nordic_keyboard in extended rom for that? and to use swedish in software keyboard you use skandinavisktastatur5.cab. You can DL here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1150091&postcount=97
There is norwegian softkeyboard in skandinavisktastatur5.cab to.
I have installed the cab file on my norweigian Tytn, and it works perfectly with Windows Mobile "XDA Live" 0.10.
shark1 : what about hardware keyboard?
The software keyboard works fine.
Tanks now i can us åäö agen now dount ned to us a insted fore åä and o insted fore ö., on keybord

What program do you use to change the values?
Hello,
If I buy an US S620 (Qwerty Keyboard), unlock it and change the ROM to the french one, would I have a problem with the keyboard ? French S620 have an Azerty keyboard, I don't mind having keys at another place but I couldn't live if it enters "Q" everytime I press "A".
Any thoughts ?
Thanks
Find the file called eT9.Excalibur.0409.kmap in \windows folder. Copy it to your pc and edit it with notepad to your preference.

If you're talking about hardware keyboard, look at the Hermes Wiki or install Advanced Configuration Tool by Schaps.
Is this corectly i must only change the registry to use German Hardware Keyboard nomore files needed
Great Thanks
Restore local language support for sliding keyboard after upgrade to a different language ROM
This has been reported not to work, see below for another hack
You need to create Registry value of name "Locale" and type of "String" and data of "Localization ID" within
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Keybd]
Localization IDs:
German = 0407

no. you have to read carefully the wiki. you will see there that you have to create it in
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Oem\Qwerty]
the name of the key is Layout
the value (hex) of the key is 20407
do a soft reset via switching the device off (long button press of the on/off button) as it keeps your changes. otherwise you will loose your changes.
Thanks that works fine
this CAB does the registry entry for a german keyboard and installs the file (\windows\sym.0409.txt) for the german umlauts (that you get ä first and not á when you switch via dot + space)
Vielen Dank
Hello,
i've installed the rom HTC HERMES_CE OS 5.2.19949 Build 19949.1.2.0. and your tool doesn't work with this rom. Do you know what I can do to have the german Umlaute (äöü)?
Thanks a lot.
Greetz.
edit the file \windows\sym.0409.txt yourself. it is very easy.
have a look into it and you will see what i mean.

Goto the following registry entry
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Oem\Qwerty]There is a key called 'Layout' and it is in Decimal.
The suitable value for German Hermes keyboard is 20407 (132103 in decimal). =qwertz
Thanks for the posts. I installed the rom, then I installed the tool of stan23. I looked into the registry and the value is 20407. When I want to use the hardware keyboard I can't write a "ä, ö, ü" not even an "á". I can't understand it.
check the following:
- is the file sym.0409.txt still there (maybe you have deleted it?) and have a look into it.
- is the value of the reg.key 20407 HEX
- when typing: make sure you press "a" then "dot-key" then "space-bar".
if this does not work, hard-reset.
if this does not work, try a different rom
