After installing the Swype keyboard I noticed that SMS no longer predicted the contact name I was entering into the TO: field.
On the off chance that it was Swype causing the problem, I uninstalled it and restarted my phone.... which still doesnt predict recipient names.
Any suggestions as to what I can do?
Thanks
I've seen this happen with both swype and fingerkb -- try entering a few letters, then BACKSPACE -- the pick-list will then pop up. Works for me...

I have noticed a problem with my Blueangel, when writing a text message it tell me in the bottom left corner that it will be two messages, even when the counter is less than the 160 character limit.. I didn't think anything of it, and presumed it was just a bug in the counter, but I've now recieved my bill from O2, and the phone has indeed been sending 2 messages!
Anyone know a solution to this?
I'm using Rom 1.40 with Radio 1.10
Cheers
messaging>tools>options>accounts>text message>uncheck unicode when necessary...
Yup
Yup mine did/does it too. No idea why. It happens when you leave a ' (and other characters too but i forget which one's) character out of a word. So for example if you typed "youre" it would replce it with "you're" but the added ' reduces the max characters to 70.
I think it is something to do with the encoding microsoft is using for the character set. Obviously the autocorrect is using a character with longer encoding than it should be. (I'm studying character encoding for an exam as we speak! )
Anyway you can stop it doing it by going to Start -> Settings -> Input -> Word Completion and un-chcking the box "Replace text as you type".

Actually guys,
This happens because of some character foreign character codes e.g. sometimes when doing an 'o' i get a 'oe' (but squashed together) ... those will cause the message to shorter. The same is also for using ` instead of '
Everytime I've encountered this I've just retyped it ... in actual fact, I'm using block recognizer because I'm an ex-Palm user and am now more familar with that so I rarely have these problems now.
.......
Vicer, I think you've got it bang on there!

Now I can't even reproduce it! Sweet as
JUST SEARCH, Just a few days ago i answered the same question!

Thanks Vicer, that seems to have done the trick!
its much better to turn off autocorrect found in your input module than turn off the Unicode in sms ..

the bug is already been fix in WM5.0 but not in WM2003SE
Sorry to go off topic but since it's to do with different character sets, then I thought of asking my question here.
Does anybody know how to tweak pocket word (maybe registry) so that it can read a different character set i.e. Hebrew character set?
So I've been searching all over the place for an answer. When adding multiple recipients to a text message it doesn't auto put in a ; after the persons name. so it only sends the message to the first person in the list. Is there anyway to enable this or do I have to manually put it in. Any help would be appreciated.
its alway been that way if i click on "To" & then select contacts. if you start typing a contact in the "To" field & then select it that way it should insert the semicolon
I know I have had many phones and many roms on those many phones but just today I tried to send to a few people only the first person in the list got it.

Give this a try.

Yeah that is still not as easy as just typing the names into the sms field and having it auto put the semicolon in.
figured it out
i changed the reg setting for predictive text and that took the semi colon away. hard reset and no predictive and got my semicolon back
Previously, when I would start to type the To: of an email, at the bottom of the screen there would be an entry with a match from my contacts - or at least I thought it was from my contacts. Recently I lost my email account and had to create a new one. Now the auto type does not work. Is it because of the new account? that the auto type really worked from previous email addresses entered in previous messages?
if you use a keyboard with predictive text then it doesn't work. If you're using the slide out keyboard it should work.
Does it work of the contacts list or previously sent emails?
in my experience, it should pull from your contacts...it's a bit buggy, to say the least...in the "message to:" field, you can press the "enter" button to select from your contact...i end up having to do that most of the time...
Did you install swype recently? I noticed it wouldn't pull up contacts when I installed swype, only when I backspaced one letter would the contacts be pulled up.
that may be it...ive had swype installed for quite sometime...
It is swype that has made the closest match selection stop working. Even though I am individually typing each letter (not swyping), the swype keyboard does not seem to allow it.
Hi!
I have this very annoying problem. Sometimes when I compose a new message, and I'm about to type in the name of the recipient, the letters and list just disappears after about 3 letters, and "deselects" the recipient window, so I have to touch it again to activate the keyboard.
Often when I write with the keyboard, my phone appears to kinda "forget" that I just typed in a letter when I follow up with the next letter to fast. This doesn't happen as long as I keep pressing the letter before typing the next one.
Anyone experience similar problems? Would've been awesome if there was some kind of fix to this...
Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone, it's good to be back after a while!
Whenever I send a text message to someone, no matter who it is, I type everything correctly, like ã, é, õ, ç and all the special characters that my language has, and I also send emojis, as everyone else does.
My problem is that the receiver only receives normal letters without the special characters, a capital Ç and blank spaces instead of the emojis I've sent.
This has me believing that for some reason, my Pixel "turned on an option" that only lets me send SMS in the most basic format possible, like it used to be back in the day, before SMS evolved to supporting emojis and all that. The only way I can send "emojis" is if I type ": - )" instead of choosing an actual emoji.
I've been in touch with my carrier (Vodafone) and they said there's nothing wrong with my SIM and that the problem should be on the phone, with a reasonable doubt.
Has anyone around here experienced a similar issue? I've tried everything I can remember, including a Factory Reset but nothing did the trick.
EDIT: I forgot to mention that I've had a popup message show up on Messages saying "to support a message from your carrier, the message needs to be converted" (or similar) and it makes you tap Yes or the message won't be sent.
Best Regards and sorry for the long post! :good:

Hi there , where you able to solve this?
I'm on Vodafone PT too and I'm having the same problem , the Pixel 2 only sends blank texts when I send a emoji.
The problem isn't with your P2XLs guys. Ask your recipients if THEY have the simple character set enabled in Messages. If they don't the problem is possibly font related on their end.

The problem is some incompatibility with AOSP and the way it manages the Unicode with Vodafone PT or something like that, beacuse the Emojis work with other mobile carriers and with Vodafone PT they don't.
It's really something or with Google or with Vodafone.
Vodafone more than likely. If it were Google it would be a global issue, affecting all handsets. This issue isn't affecting mine.

But do you have Vodafone PT as a carrier?
No I don't, and that's why Vodafone is the likely culprit.
