UNLOCKING Branded Rhodiums for 3G service - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Hey guys,
I'm not pro like some of you here, so hopefully some of you could help me answer my questions/concerns.
Basically I have a Tmobile Touch Pro2 right now, but it's NOT unlocked, so I could use their 3G service for faster internet speed.
1. My question is if I unlock this phone, would it change the 3G bands, which will then take me back to EDGE speeds?
2. I also want to know if I unlock this phone, will it work with 3G ATT service.
3. In regards to #2. What if I buy the ATT version (Tilt 2) and unlock it. Will it still have the ATT 3G bands?
Basically the 3G isn't for reception, but mainly for faster internet usage. I have had my Touch 3G for sooooo long now going through edge speeds of around 20kb, so it's time for me to move on. lol. The ATT network is with my wife, so if she can use the Tmobile one on 3G, it would save me about $50-100. The Tilt 2 is more expensive
Thanks in advance!
p.s. Tmobile sucks for having their own unique 3G network

1. Yes it will still work on Tmobile 3g if you unlock it.
2. No a T-mobile branded phone will not work on AT&T 3G ( it is due to hardware.
3. refer to 1 & 2

unlocking the phone doesnt allow you to use att bands. and you dont need to unlock a tmobile phone to get tmobile 3g. if you buy a tilt 2 and unlock it and put a tmobile sim card in, you will not get 3g.

Thanks guys for the reply.
So basically if I unlock my Tmobile one, I can still get on their 3G service right? This helps a lot since now I can get rid of all their splash screens and HSPL my phone!
As for the ATT Tilt 2 version, if I unlock it, it should also stay on the ATT 3G service right? Since you mentioned the hardware is different.
Thank yoU!

Correct. Unlocking (SIM, CID, bootloader) isn't going to change anything at the hardware level no matter what phone.

Help with configuring my HTC Tilt(8925) for T-Mobile 3GNewwork?

Hi everyone!!
I'm a rooky with this. I'm currently using RUU_Kaiser_HyperDragon_III_BlackStone_WWE_20081203 rom. I'm currently getting Edge service. Is there anyone kind enough to help me or guide me through how to setup my HTC Kaiser 8925 into T-Mobile 3G network? is this possible?
T-Mobile 3g configuration
hey... i have a tilt also and i have unlocked it and am using it with T-Mobile. It is my understanding that the tilt is incapable of operating on the T-Mobile 3g network as AT&T uses the 2100mhz frequency to both upload and download on their data network. T-Mobile uses 1700mhz and 2100mhz frequencies. One of them for uploads and one for downloads. I do not know which is which, but you would need to have both to function on T-Mobile. To the best of my knowledge the latest version of the factory unlocked kaiser has all the frequencies required to function on T-Mobile 3G network. I believe it is the 140 version.
wrong answer. ATT doesn't use the 2100 band at all. Otherwise we wold all be importing phones like crazy. Tmobile has the 2100 band but it slightly off from the european version. There is no way to use Tmobile's 3g on the tilt.
BTW JaceNSteale you should know what your talking about before you start making assumptions as everything you said was incorrect. The only reason this angers me is because hacking these phones has become so easy you might cause someone to brick their device with some bad advice.
thanks for the answer everyone. one other question.
when i reconnect data connection or reboot my phone i do get G service but after few minutes my phone backs to Edge mode again. is there something that i could work with on the hardware part?
EDGE is faster than G which is GPRS. So when you phone boots up its using G then is negotiates a faster speed and starts using E.
Slow >>> Fast >>> Faster
GPRS(G) >>> EDGE(E) >>> 3G
Tilt AT&T to T Mobile
I paid cash for my Tilt and have had a contract with AT&T for 3 years, so I called and they gave me my unlock code with instructions to unlock my Tilt. It was a breeze.
I changed to Tmobile this week, and thought I did all my research......................but I can't get anything faster than Edge. This is very dissappointing!!!!! .... I use my phone as a tether to my Laptop.
From reading this post, looks like I'm stuck.
Question? .... If I got an unlocked Iphone, is there a way to unlock it so I can tether with it? ... and would it get 3g or HSPA.
The sad sad things is, I was using Kaiser Tweak with AT&T, and I was getting HSPA speed with internet. Amazing really .... so going down to Edge is like taking an inch on my privates. ha ha

Unlocking T-Mobile for AT&T service

hi everyone:
I have been looking via numerous thread online on many Android forums especially here and have been unsuccessful for the past 2 days now. So I figured I would need to create a thread and finally give in and ask for some help. I have a T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy 3 phone and I need to unlock it so that it will work on my AT&T service. Now i understand about rooting the phone and being able to play with themes etc, but its not that great if I can't use the phone itself.
Now without coming up with some kind of answer I must have watched about 40 youtube video's hoping to find out some kind of information. Mostly what I got out of it was numerous website that offer unlocking for phones at a certain price.
unlockcodesource(.)com
unlock2go(.)com
mobileunlockcodes(.)co.uk
Has anyone ever used any of these website or can someone give me some good advise on how I can get this phone unlocked please/
~Aqua
I think the toolkit stickied in the development forum has an option to SIM unlock the GS3. I have not tried this, and do not know if it works, but if the option is there, you might want to give it a shot.
If you're on contract with t mobile and your account is in good standing with them. Call them tell them you're going over seas and need to unlock your phone so you can use it. They will send you unlock code ... then pop in an att sim card and it will prompt you to enter the unlock code t Mobil gave you. Done

OK thank you. I followed your instructions and they said it would take up to maybe 24 hrs for the phone to be unlocked. If it isn't unlocked than she said to call back with the conformation number she gave me. If that doesn't work than they would have to give Samsung my info and could take up to 14 days. She said when you buy phones almost all stands and corp stores have already unlocked phones.
she also said it would be auto unlocked for good. Can they lock the phone back up once it is be unlocked?

edited: Once I have it unlocked ( if all goes good ) do i use the same APN settings that I needed to put into the phone in order for my phone to work on the AT&T network as I did with my S2 that I got unlocked ?
Don't they use different frequencies for HSPA+
You would be relegated to edge speeds, correct me if I'm wrong

I really don't know. That would be a great question if someone would be nice enough to help me with this information? Again i have a T mobile S3 hopefully its unlocked would I be losing speeds by being on the AT&T network?
thanks

The T-Mobile S3 has the 850/1900 3G bands so it will work on AT&T's 3G network. It will not get LTE though.
You can unlock either by paying for a code from the various resellers online or requesting an unlock code from T-Mobile if you have an account in good standing with them. If you can't get the code from T-Mobile I suggest searching 'T999 unlock' on eBay and you'll find some good options.
The tmobile galaxy s3 will work on the ATnT HSPA+21 frequency. Same frequency the International version runs on for that network.

Edge network and 3/4G Question
I found an excellent place so far on eBay for buying unlock codes. they have almost 3800 sells with a 99% positive feedback. Great customer service. The guy answered numerous questions of mine and made sure i did everything correctly. Payment was $24.95 US, so hopefullly everything will go good.
He was talking about being on something called an " Edge " network which is a little slower, but he said you won't notice a difference between your unlocked S2 and the unlocked S3 now. Right now my S2 says I have 3G service when I use it. I dont understand how i had a inspire4G, what is the 4G for if AT&T only gives you 3G service? And where I am in United States I should have 4G service no matter what. I'm confused on that.,

Edge is 2G speeds, which are substantially slower than 3G speeds. IMHO, 3G speeds are livable, 2G/Edge is not.
Different phones have different radios which work on different frequencies. Some phones are not compatible with other services at all, and some will work on other carriers but often not at optimal speeds.

So than why would someone suggest that I would get "edge" instead of what i have now? I'm getting 3G now with my T-Mobile S2 unlocked on AT&T, but now I'm going to have an unlocked S3, why wouldn't it be the same?
Because the radios in the devices are different.

Because he/she doesn't know what he/she is talking about. You will be fine with a T-Mobile S3 on AT&T.
That's what I said earlier in not so many words.
Voice willl work fine you will not see HSPA+ speeds on At&t with a T-Mobile Galaxy SIII.
If the T-Mobile SIII has the hardware capability to support the At&t HSPA+ bands you would need modified radio software to unlock this ability.
I believe this was done on the Galaxy Note to tun on T-Mobile HSPA+ network before it was officially launched on T-Mobile.
kmdub I believe your the one that's wrong.

I unlocked my t999 and am using an att straight talk sim getting HSPA speeds. Going to switch back to tmobile prepay because it is way faster than att HSPA with better latency. Although coverage may be lacking, i may just switch to an att ST sim.
To answer your question, a Tmobile S3 will work on ATT HSPA+ network with the HSPA+ Speeds of up to 6-7mbps in NYC area. The average I've been getting is around 2-3.5 mbps. With the tmobile prepay sim I have, it's usually around 2-18mbps down in NYC area.
The T-mobile S3 will not work on the ATT LTE network because it lacks that radio (or so they say for now); there have been other threads suspecting it's just a matter of flashing the right radio to "turn on" the ATT LTE radio. However, if all you want is HSPA+ speeds, rest assured it will work fine.
The ATT S3 is lacking the AWS bands for TMobile so it will not get the HSPA+ on Tmobile.
Best regards.
radio issue
First off, I would like to thank everyone who has been helping me along with my issues with my phone. I appreciate it a lot and I'm picking up more knowledge more and more everyday from you guys and reading heavily on the forums.
if the hardware in the phone doesn't support HSPA+ 1) will i have to root the phone and 2) change the radio? And 3 ) if I change the radio does that mean I would need to install a custom ROM i order for it to work properly?
Also, from one of the post they said "The T-Mobile S3 has the 850/1900 3G bands " - of that is true will than I should be able to have the 3G speeds correct?
I really hope I am not making some people angry, I'm new to this and trying my hardest to understand everything so I don't make mistakes. Please bare with me. Again, thank you so much everyone who has contributed so far. I still have a lot to learn. The reason why is because I just don't want it to work ( I do, want it to work ) but I want to understand why everything is working they way it is and I've over the past almost month have been picking up a lot of knowledge. Can't wait to hear from you guys

No, actually, you are wrong. The T-Mobile S3 does not need any modification to work properly on AT&T's HSPA network. Seems you are confusing something else with frequency. Quit spreading bad information.
OP: Don't worry about it. Some are making this way more complicated than it needs to be. As said before, if you have the T999, you will be fine on AT&T's HSPA network without any modifications (other than an account...lol). Just get the phone SIM-unlocked, pop in the right SIM, you are good to go. Seriously, it is that easy.
Well there it is, I stand corrected!
I had no idea the T-Mobile SIII supports At&t HSPA+ bands.
Is the same true to all T-Mobile HSPA+ phones?
Sorry for any issues, just learning
Hi everyone,
thanks so much for the info. Will the S2 I needed to put in certain APN settings inorder to receive MMS ( picture ) via texts. Do i use the same settings for the Samsung Galaxy 3?

AT&T S3 on Tmobile

Hey guys I'm about to buy an at&t galaxy s3 but my service is under tmobile so I have a few questions. As for making it run all I need to do is unlock the phone and put my tmobile sim in right? I also have seen that the 3g won't work, does this mean I have no internet access (other than wifi)? Also is there any way around this?
And any other issues I should know about before buying the att version?
I realize some of these have been answered already, but I am very new to the smartphone game so a lot of the terms I see in other posts confuse me :silly:
You can run edge which is pretty slow internet.
You can unlock for free. Look into general section.
I guess you need to change apn but not sure on that

Unlock the phone
You can get 2g/edge speeds whatever you want to call it, just in put the tmobile apn. If there is 1900 service on tmobile you would get the 4g. I'm using an iphone 5 on 2g speeds, it gets the job done for basic browsing and email.

T-mobile s4 in nz

Hi, I'm planning on going on a long trip to nz and would like to use my phone over there. I know it has to be unlocked and stuff, but once that is all said and done, would I still have to change the radio to have good signal? The last time I went on my vacation with my sensation, the signal wasn't all that great until I flashed a radio that worked well for nz users, was wondering if that'll apply to the s4 as well. Thanks.
bump
I am an American living in Australia. (very similar mobile infrastructure w/ NZ. Kiwis to Aussies are just like Canadians to Americans)
I actually ordered the Tmo m919 sent here because all the avail bands for tmo (I still have tmo in the US). I bought it in full. Just got it a few days ago and after unlock it works great! IMO I think the tmo variant is one of the best out there. The octocores are a joke as they do not save anything on battery life not to mention performance gains. I've used tmo S3 and the tmo S4 has just about all the avail international bands out there. The only thing is there are not many dev in tmo based roms but plenty can be ported over from the i9505 variant.
On stock firmware:
1) no need to change APNS. After unlock I popped the local SIM here works great. The beauty is I pop my Tmobile SIM in, turn on wifi calling. Turn off roaming and make calls home w/ 100% clarity over wifi dialing direct US numbers w/o incurring any international fees.
Wifi calling really shines here. Will only work with active Tmobile SIM (tmo phone number).
2) All data, mms works great
3) AU and NZ do not have LTE. Just be thankful they just rolled out 4G for most networks here. There are plenty of patchy areas of 3G. Sometimes really bad in the city.
On custom firmware:
1) works even better!
2) wifi tethering hack is really good when u don't have decent internet access.
3) a lot of cheap prepaid packages here. cellular communications is about the only inexpensive thing here in AU/NZ compared with other commodities/services in the US.
*** You should call Tmo and get the unlock code well in advance. It has taken from 5-14 days to get an unlock code. My phone is newer so the free unlock method does not work (manufacture date 8/10/13). A good thing I do unlocking on the side so I plug it into my programmer box and unlock in about 3 secs.
Hope this helps

Running T-mobile on ATT note 2

Hello everyone.
I'm sorry if i write bad English because I'm not really good at it. Sorry in advance.
I have a ATT Note 2 which i bought from a friend and i unlocked it by using the free method from the forms.
When i first unlocked it my phone went to lte signal and my data was working fine and i was getting lte speeds.
I made a phone call which usually drops the single to HSPA+ aka 4g/3g but for some reason my phone doesn't go back to lte after.
I even called t-mobile they said they see my phone was on lte but they don't know why it's not going back to lte.
If anyone here running Tmobile sim in Att note 2 and still getting lte speeds after phone call is made please provide me some instructions as because I've tried everything possible i can from the forms. I've been trying for almost more then 3 to 4 months i still haven't found any solution to this problems.
If anyone can help me out that will be great.
Thank you and sorry for my bad English.
That's odd, mine is unlocked and I use Tmobile but I dont have those problems... maybe it's the modem, could be reception... sorry to head you're having issues dude.

First things first, what solutions have you tried? If we don't know what you've tried it won't help much. Also what method did you use to unlock it?
If you used the free unlock then you have the J2 modem - that's the earliest stock AT&T modem. Since you were able to downgrade, I'm assuming you can upgrade too. Depending on your location (whether t-mobile is using the refarmed AT&T bands or using their own) you can use the latest modem or you can search for a t-mobile modem.
But speed is what matters, not what icon is displayed. Check the phone status under the settings menu to see the actual network type you're connected to.
