I received a Dash today to use while I work on finding my lost phone. Right now there is no SIM card installed because I need to get one from my carrier. I flashed the ROM RUU_EXCA_3VOLUTION_WM65_3VO.3.00.112509
The phone will vibrate when I turn on or select vibrate as a sound, however no other sounds will play. Not in the sounds menu under settings, or if I try and play a wma file through the media player. The phone volume is on high, and I set all the alerts under sounds to loud, still nothing comes out.
Any suggestions on how to test and see what problem is, or possible causes for the lack of sounds?
Welcome to froums
A hard reset could help
or try installing another ROM
Good luck,

Just earlier I noticed that my ringtones don't play. It wasn't vibrating aswell unless it was on the vibrate mode.
Now it seems to vibrate aswell normally.
But i'm still left with the problem where on an incoming call the ringtone doesn't play.
In "sounds and notifications" on the incoming call option when I press play nothing happens with whichever ringtone I select. However on other alerts its fine.
[EDIT] I've just realised that I can't chaange any option in Sounds and Notifications. Even when I press the OK button it loads but it doesn't close and no alerts or any notification changes. However I've tested some notifications just to see if the play button actually plays the tone that is selected and it does play but on incoming call alert I can't get anything to play. Either way whatever I change in SOUNDS AND NOTIFICATIONS I can't save it and I cant close it.
Very wierd....Any ideas..?
AND YES...I've soft reseted and tried.
AND NO.....I am not willing to reflash as Ive just got it setup the way I want and installed everything nicely and want to leave it the way it is..
Question: Did you install any other media play which might have re-assoicated the wav or audio defaults. This will cause the rings not to work.
Double post sorry

Try this cab file it may work, if not you may need to hard reset that is the only way, you can always do a back up first.
I've had a O2 XDA Orbit for about 3 months now without any problems, but it seems to devloped a strange fautl today.
This morning (around 7am) the alarm went off as usual, but come about 10 when I tried to make a phone call the call was placed but I could not hear the other person (and she could not hear me). I checked out the phone and noticed that both volume sliders where set to off, changing them and I still could not get any sound out of the device.
In Settings Sounds & Notifications when I press the play button theres no sound, and trying the built in sound/video/midi results in no sound.
Oddly when someone calls, I changed the ring tone to an mp3 wich will play, but again I cant hear the caller, or they hear me.
I've done a soft reboot, with no help, before I tired a hard reset I was wondering if anyone else had any ideas?
I'm having exactly the same problem. If anyone has any advice regarding this I'd be greatly apperciated!
My Phone seems to have itself stuck with the Ringtone on silent. Every setting says its up. Audio Manager has all the volumes up. Message tones work and so do system / media and alerts. But the ringtone will not make a noise..
When I press the volume up button on the home screen.. it comes up with Silent Ringtone Selected..... Is there any way to get rid of this?
Thanks in advance
Solved....
Just Wipe data + cache
reload ROM and restore all apps back from default and bingo...
I know this may seem over kill but it works and I really need my ringtone on the phone (wife due to go into labour any day soon)
Thanks

Lol. If people would read, this forum would be so much more usefull.

Silent Ringtone
I'm actually having this same problem, and it's 2 years later. I believe that I have found the solution though.
I'll start out by saying I got my Droid Pro about a week ago.
I downloaded the "Voice Recorder" app by Mamoru Tokashiki.
I would record audio for ringtones (generally song snippets because I'm too lazy, or stupid, or I like to make more work for myself than downloading the actual ringtones). I would retitled the files (.3gp) and hit "Set as Ringtone." Then if I toggled my volume rocker it would say Silent Ringtone Selected.
I came to these forums and immediately knew that I didn't want to root my phone or do anything like that. So a lot of people suggested it was the software. I ditched the software and downloaded "Tape-a-talk" by Markus Drosser. It records in both .3gp and .wav. I use the .wavs because they sound so much better.
It worked for me once, but then I started getting the same message. It couldn't have been a problem with the software because I ran two different apps. It's something with the way that the android system saves the files.
I tinkered around with a process that is working for me now (it involves a lot of turning on and off which is annoying, so get prepared).
1. Open recording app (I use tape-a-talk) and record your audio. It shouldn't matter the duration (I thought I was getting the silent ringtone error because my files were too long, but that's not the case).
2. Immediately set the recording (labeled with some generic date like 03-19-2012.wav) as your ringtone. Toggle the volume rocker to check if you get the silent ringtone selected. (If you do, then try re-recording as .3gp. If that still doesn't work then this process probably won't work because something else major is wrong with your phone).
3. Turn off the phone.
4. Power back up (30s downtime).
5. Open up Settings>Sounds>Phone Ringtone. If 03-19-2012 is set as your ringtone then you should be pretty okay. Go back to the home page and toggle the volume rocker again to double check.
6. Turn off the phone then power it back up.
7. Go back into your recording app and find the generic file, rename it to what you want.
8. Set the newly titled .wav or .3gp as your ringtone.
9. Toggle the rocker to make sure it saved properly.
10. If it did, then turn your phone off. Turn the phone back on and open Settings>Sounds>Phone Ringtone.
If everything worked it should have your ringtone set and saved with the new file name.
Then you're free to enjoy.
That process works for me.
Some people may still claim it is the software, but in my experience it is a matter of how your phone ends up saving the recorded files.
This information is useless if you're talking about downloading a ringtone, btw.
Hope this helps anyone in the future.
solution
i had the same problem so i searched in every option from settings
so here are the steps...
settings -> sound -> ringtone -> phone ringtone
when you open the "phone ringtone" you will see that your phone is set on "silent". well all you have to do is to choose another ringtone from that list, or, if you want a song from your music player you just set a random ringtone from the list and then go in "music" and set as ringtone your favourite song.
hope it helped ^_^
Sometimes when receive incoming call, phone won't ring, just vibrate. That's happening randomly, sometimes it's ok for 2 days and then start, sometimes on every couple of calls, for 2-3 calls it's not ringing and then start to ring normally again... Of course, I'm not in silent mode, volume is set to max, when enter settings and select ringtone, it plays fine...
This start when I upgrade to Lollipop, on stock rom and custom roms, tried 4-5 roms, all Sense. I run RUU for couple of times, for clean start of new rom, my firmware is up to date, but it happens every time, so I think it is Lollipop problem, not rom.
Is anyone experienced this problem too, or know some solution?
Thanks.
So no one have this problem? For everyone phone rings fine every time?
Try to restart the phone. It will solve the problem for you. My wife's phone had same problem and that's what I did.
Yes, I restart the phone and the problem re-apear shortly, so that is not the solution.
m8 problem
I have the same fcking problem for over 2-3 months now and I think it's lollipop problem, it's very annoying every day I got dozens of missed calls ...i don't know what to do, did you find anything ?? Thanks
Did you set some ringtone which came with Lollipop, or some of yours personal ringtones?
I always use my ringtone, simple mp3 file, but I select one of pre-installed ringtone about 3 weeks ago and have no problem since. Don't know why, but it seems that Lollipop have some problems with some mp3 files. Those files plays perfectly well in any music app on phone, but if you set it like ringtone, sometimes ringing and sometimes not.
I found some program that helps to "convert files to Android-playable" so I convert my mp3 ringtone with that program (still mp3, but larger size) and will see if that helps.
I have done it today so must pass week or two to be sure if it helps or not, will post here.
So, my converted ringtone didn't work. Then I tried to put the mp3 file in to /system/media/audio/ringtones where the other ringtones are, but that didn't work either. I noticed that most of stock ringtones are in .flac format, so I converted my ringtone to .flac and it worked! My phone rings normally for 2 weeks now.
So, if anyone have problem with their custom ringtones, just convert them to .flac format with any sound converter on PC and that will be fine.
Ok I will do it your way, just to inform you, I did a factory reset for nothing same as before everything is working like, notification sound, message sound, music player but still no incoming sound, this is a really fcked up thing, it's nothing to repair the software is fcked up I guess,I am so dissapointed
Just convert your ringtone to .flac format with any free converter (ask Google), and it will be fine. For me, it's working over the month now.
The ringtone sound is fine now(tried it your way), but now I have another problem with mic, when someone tries to call me they can't hear me only on speaker mode, really mad now X(.
It might look silly, but try to make G calibration (Settings>Display & gestures>G-sensor calibration)
This is the weirdest problem:
My phone doesn't ring. My phone makes no sound at all. When I change ringtone in Settings I don't hear the tone I select. When I play a song with a player, no sound. And... the player freezes its timer almost immediately, as if it decides to stop since it can't make itself heard.
However, when I pair with a BT headset, all sounds are there. The only salient thing is that ringtones sound very distorted and slow, while sounds from a player or radio are OK.
When did this start? I really don't know. I first suspected Macrodroid (which had a scenario where notification sounds were turned off at night), but I don't think that's it.
What did I try: I even tried a factory reset but even in a pristine state it won't make a sound.
Could this mean that the speaker is broken? Is there a sure way to check this?
Rooted H815, stock rom V10a
Well, went to Service Menu with 277634#*#. Tried Ringtone. No sound.
But... when I get a call and turn to speakerphone, it works. So the speaker's OK. ???
Hello, I just had no sound when playing music/video, when I play them nothing comes out of the speaker but I did restart and everything is ok now. That's weird I almost thought that something is wrong with my speaker/phone. Has anyone experienced same problem?
P.S. Just before doing this I connected my device to PC and uploaded new songs.
