Sorry if this is the wrong area...
I have both an HTC Topaz and a new iphone 3GS I am setting up for my wife. I realized that I can't access the file system to move files to/from my PC (Windows 7) to the iphone. that is a silly apple thing!
I unlocked my phone using blackra1n (blackra1n.com) and still need a tool that opens the files system.
Anyone know if an XDA forum for iphone and what tools I can use?
thanks
one can't access the iphone's filesystem unless one jailbrake it apple don't allow it

Hello,
I have seen freeware websites , there are windows mobiles 7 applications , but i cannot download straight to pc like windows mobile 5/6 , i need software like Zune Software or something like that , i have never been using windows mobilw 7 phone so never been trying.
So anybody know is that windows mobile 7 applications can install manually like
windows mobile 5/6 or do i need special pc software like itunes.
Thanks
to install apps you must use the Marketplace tile. this will let you access music, games etc. beware you must have a data connection and probably wifi for bigger files if you want to sync your music and picture you MUST use Zune software. and the sync it with your WP7 device.
so , do you mean i cannot transfer cab file to the device and then on the file explorer i cannot install cab file by double clicking like windows mobiles 5/6?
Thanks

You are correct in your assumption.
Windows mobile 7
i have owned many windows mobile phone since the xda1.
i never owned such a rubbish as bad as windows mobile 7.
i have now moved to android 2.2 and i am very happy but why microsoft ruined such excellent windows mobile 6.5 with this rubbish.
you cant sync with outlook.
you dont have file explorer.
there is no expansion slot for sd card.
i cant use any of my old softwares.
the platform is gone back to different system
Microsoft is doing same thing apple is been doing for years..... manipulating users.....

As a former wm6.5 owner, I can say you're full of crap to call WP7 rubbish.
None of the things you mentioned with the exception of SD card are missed.
Just because things are done differently doesn't make them rubbish, just different, and in this case, better.
And if you think Android 2.2 is better, you are certifiably mad!

MS didnt ruin WM 6.5, its still available and you can always get a WM 6.x device if thats what you want. WP7 is completely different from WM and as such wont suit anyone looking for the power and flexibility of WM.

there is no expansion slot for sd card.

There's a saying, "you can't please everyone."
There's also another saying that goes, "People fear change because they are afraid to leave their comfort zones. They usually stagnate."
It's Windows Phone 7.
There's no such thing as Windows Mobile 7, you cannot install or use apps from previous Windows Mobile 6/5/4 oses. Windows Phone 7 is a completely new os.

So do you mean all applications that i bought for Windows Mobile 6/5/4 oses will be useless for Windows Phone 7.
Many thanks

Yes
Yes, you are correct, Windows Mobile 6.X applications will not work on Windows Phone 7. However, as I discover daily, more and more 6.X applications are being rewritten for WP7. Today, I use many WP7 versions of the WM 6.X applications I depended on.
BTW I will NEVER go back to WM 6.x, NEVER!!!!!!
Yes, windows mobile is no longer fully supported and WP7 was built from the ground up. No Winmo apps will work on WP7 as it utilizes an entirely different file type. WP7 is not Windows mobile 7, it's something much bigger.
Dear All,
I do a lot of search on how to get WP7 RTW emulator jailbroken but without result.
I want to be able to access file system root using file explorer.
can anyone help me in that ?
Can anyone help with GENERAL/REAL( HTC MOZART Chevron'd) unlocking to access root filesystem and registry ? ie: Want TASKMGR, EXPLORER, REGEDIT... On my Mozart... Maybe bootloader/FS access too? Thanks... Happy with TASK/EXP/REG...

Other than for the spirit of hacking and OUTSIDE of putting your own stuff on the device, WHY do you want taskmgr, explorer and regedit on your mozart?
I am seeing so much push for going back to the old WM world, but that got them nearly to 0% market share...

This was due to the fact the UI sucked donkeyballs compared to e.g. iPhone. The inclusion of a filebrowser or taskmanager was always some of the positives with having a WinMo device.
With WP7 I do agree though, a taskmanager is not needed as there is no multitasking anyway. A registry editor would be nice, if nothing else so we could change the home-/search- page in Internet Explorer but not critical. As for a file browser, again it would be nice to have, but as you cannot use it as a mass storage device anyway - there really isn't much point to it.
I'm actually very happy with WP7 as is - once they do add multitasking (which is a must have for certain types of apps), socket support and a few other bits and pieces it'll be the ultimate phone OS.
I thought developers didn't have access to the file system but now seems there's a file explorer app called TouchXplorer.
Please note that he's using an HTC com object present in ONLY htc devices to get file system access.
Woohoo. Yeah, htc is always the best. Period. If it aint htc, it's broke

OK that sucks.. Why isnt the HTC Throphy for WP7 the same one that was mocked up last year ? Why dont they make something like the DVP (Which is what I now have).
This is a App I WANT, Any chance the DLL could be copied and added to a DVP ?

It relies on drivers that are part of the system software. Samsung has some similar driver hooks. I would guess that Dell does too but who knows. I'm not sure if Samsung's are as full featured as HTCs.
I have added it here : WP7 File Explorer App
does this work on non HTC devices
Love this app...its what my biggest gripe has been with WP7...no more!
im a big apple hater but i was buyin my gf a mp3 player and had to decide between the ipod touch or the zune hd and i came to find out the zune hd and wp7 dont share the same marketplace...what gives with that?
the iphone and ipod touch have the same apps available between both and now with wp7 having over 4,000 apps in its marketplace i think its time for those 2 to share the same apps since theyre trying to go the same os route (lock down)
has there been any word on future versions of zune sharing the same marketplace as windows phone 7? anybody else feel like that would be key for both the zune and wp7 to gain marketshare...its all about apps these days cool ones...
and i hate apple but i bought her the ipod touch in the end it has apps for everything..but i hate itunes and the limited bluetooh functionality (no file transfer, no bluetooth file explorer on ipod touch)
i mean why wouldnt wp7 and the zune share the same marketplace?
because iPod touch, iPhone and iPad uses the same (only a bit costumized) OS. WP7 phones and Zune HD (neither any other zune till now) don't. But it's rummored that MS is working on a new Zune wich would use a bit costumized WP7... then the matketplaces will be shared.
I would expect them to now go and release a Zune Player with Windows Phone 7 OS, without the telephone function IE Ipod Touch but Zune.
Yep, if MS wants to win this war they need to get into the iPod Touch's territory. I know everyone wants to see WP7 tablets, but if you go to high school or college and see just how many people have an iPod Touch just to avoid the data plan you would realize how much potential is locked away in that market.
Trouble with Marketplace
Hey all,
I have a problem with the WP7 Marketplace, when i go with my phone into, select an app or game and want to install it, this error message comes:
"can't get this info right now, check back in awhile"
The joke is that when i try it connected with zune, then i can klick on install, i "buy" them.
Then a pop-up comes up where i am told that the program will install shortly, but in the end absolutely nothing is installed!!
Something strange is that the Space on my phone was getting more less so the programs should been transfered by zune to the phone but why they dont get installed?
I dont know if this is the right thread to post the problem, but you would really help me if you had an idea.
Thanks in advance
Chevron.cet installed
Chevron unlocked
Touch-xplorer installed
XBMOD installed
Phone is activated
finalforce... are you using wp7 on a hd2? if so, check the http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=802971 thread.
to be honest, we need to separate the windows phone 7 forum section from the hd2 windows phone 7 section. the reason is that many issues that get raised can get easily confused. mods can this be done?
Need help :
I'm from Malaysia... can't register for this zune under my country... i'd tried this Marketplace Enabler ; but it seems ain't working as it was created for previous version...
how can i tweak this Zune under my country selection ?
Does anyone know what would be the least-featured (read: least expensive!) Nokia phone with the Symbian operating system that is capable of formatting a microSD card that's been used in a WP7 device? In other words, what model Nokia phone with the Symbian operating system should I look for (used) if I want ONLY to use it to format memory cards used in WP7 devices & want to spend as little money as possible?
The Nokia 7650 (S60) was the first, according to what I've read, Nokia phone released with the Symbian operating system; it was released in 2002 and had V6.1 of Symbian. Does anyone know if that early version of Symbian would format a WP7 card, or do I need a later version?
THanks,
Dennis
What do you just want to use it in something else...
Why not just use mini partition wizard on the PC. Is free so can't really go wrong.
http://www.partitionwizard.com/free-partition-manager.html
I've used it a ton of times on my hd2 works perfect... There's another program too... I believe it the Panasonic sd formatter.. I think it's a program that comes with a digital camera or something.
No need to buy a Nokia though just to format a card.

Unless you've put Windows Phone 7 on your HD2, which I understand can be done, it's NOT the same as formatting a microSD card from a Windows Phone 7 device. Once removed from a Windows Phone 7 handset, the microSD card DOES NOT EVEN SHOW UP IN A PC WHEN YOU TRY AND READ IT THAT WAY. The ONLY way I know of FOR SURE to make it useable again is to format it in a Nokia phone that uses the Symbian operating system.

Yah I know... Only thing that shows is 200mb.
Its the wp7 partition that doesn't show up..
Yah had windows phone 7 on my hd2 since the original dft rom... That's actually why I ended up buying the hd7.
That program will work. I've actually since then used it for several other random stuff too. Like shrinking the drive on my laptop to dual boot 7 & 8.
When you open the program make sure you select te sd card. Then delete both partitions, it will turn into one unformatted partition, then format the whole thing to whatever format you want, then click the click check mark check to apply changes, let it do its thing, all set.

Had the same problem only seeing 200 mb of 2GB. Partition wizard worked perfectly for me.Thanks for the tip @reeg420
The above is not for native windows phones
as far as nokia you can get nokia music phone and it should be super cheap to get what you need to get done
It takes less than 3 minutes I did it for a member on xda and it was no problem
edit I used my n8 and it is symbian belle. It doesn't matter which os though
