[SOLVED] Remove HTC Volume Control

Hello,
Does anyone have the time or inclination to make a ROM without the volume control? I only ask because I've so far found no way of disabling the program.
Basically I've discovered that the standard WM dialer is more responsive and more intuitive than the Diamond one while using about 8MB less memory. The problem is, the in-call volume won't work unless the HTCVolumeControl can be disabled or removed.
I'm going to follow up this request with a noob question - how easy is it to take an existing cooked ROM and remove applications?

Cooking a ROM without Volume control is easy. Just remove the DIAMOND Volume Control from your kitchen.

If I were to find a chef who is willing to let others alter their work, how long would it take a novice to achieve?

Try VIC's ROM for example. Also take a look at: Cooking Guides for Ultimate Noobs.

How much time would you guess it would take to do the job? I'm a complete noob but fairly quick learner.

Isn't there an option to disable this in one of the tweak progs, either schaps adv. config or diamond tweak, I'm sure one of the two can do this.

What about a .cab that can remove it ? Only if you like it, I have attached it, and it WORKS

This option does exist in Diamond Tweak but it doesn't work.
I've searched the forum and found a manual method that involves stopping a service called HTCVolume, however that service doesn't appear to exist in the latest ROMs. HTC must have changed something which would also explain Diamond Tweak not working.

I have just tested it, and it works. But you said 8mb ram will be free ? I don't agree on that point. :/

For me, the 8MB free came when using the standard WM dialer rather than the HTC one. It's not as pretty but it does match my altered windows colour scheme. I'd rather have a phone that works properly than one that just looks nice - which is why I'm not using TouchFlo 3D either.
I would guess I'm getting an additional 1 or 2 MB with the volume control also gone.

Oh, I can see that now .. Anyway, that's why I have customized mine, as hell ..
On a fresh boot I get 42%, with orginal touchflo 3d. But anyway, glad I could help you

Strange, it's overwrite the existing files in the windows dic. I will try working some thing out..

It works fine here, even with a soft reset.. :S

Just remembered, I also ran a cleanup with SKTools, I suppose it is possible that caused it to revert. I'll have a play and see if I can recreate.

thanks! this has been driving me nuts! and nearly all the roms have htc volume built in for whatever reason
flashed my phone about 8 times in the last hour trying to find one without it built in and all my apps working

Seems the DLL?? messes up the font of the USB PopUp and SIP Selection screen Will try to cook a ROM without the VolumeControl to see if you can disable it without causing trouble to the fonts on the device..

I'm already using a ROM without the HTC Volume Control, Panosha Simple 1.1, so I don't need this cab anymore. It was invaluable before I switched ROMs!
I can confirm that the SIP selection text is already broken, without installing this cab. HTC must have relied on their dialer dll for the fonts on these other menu screens.

maybe its time for me to try that rom!
overnight the htc volume reappeared...although was all blank, reinstalling the cab fixed it, still wierd tho

Not had that problem, except for the one time mentioned above which was caused by SKTools.
It's a very plain ROM - no Manila, Opera or even MMS! However, it suited my needs and I was able to track down all of the cabs I needed eventually.

[REQ] Shortcut that restarts TF3D

Like many of you, I'm constantly trying to modify my manila files and TF3D. To see the results one must reset TF3D by clicking Start>Settings>Today>Items>TouchFlo 3D then exit, re-enter and enable it.
With that being said, can anyone create a shortcut that can be place in the start menu or programs tab that does that process with the click of a button?

without using any 3rd party apps, patch, hack, i'll do it this way:
slide to settings, tap "modify tabs", tap "done"
and voila: TF3D restarts
not sure about the english wording as my device is actually german.

restart whit button program
is did what your looking for.its a program to change everything for tf3d,and if you instal this you get a extra program for restart

3g button / switch

Hello people,
I have searched the forum all over, but cannot find a solution for this: on my previous phone I used to have a 3g button in the com manager. I enabled this button with the advanced schnap config tool. With this button I could switch between gsm and 3g mode, which was nice to have to reduce battery usage.
When enabling the button on the touch hd with advanced config, it won't function. Is there another way to create a working 3g button ?

Which device are you using ?

it is the touch hd, with dutty's 1.7 rom.
But with the original stock rom it also didn't work.
I guess the 3g / gsm switch button has to be handled differently on the touch hd then previous htc phones.
But is the button working for you??

I'm using an Touch HD also and I developed it specially for HTC devices.
On my Touch HD it's working with no problem at all.
I tested vSetBand continually on my Touch HD.
Problably Dutty's ROM is the cause.

Not working on a stock rom. It does not switch 3G<-->G. It also hangs the phone.

The vsetband tools works on my old phone, but not on my touch hd. A very nice tool with the 3g timer, I prefer it above the 3g switch in the com manager.
But to be more specific:
On the Touch HD the functions do work to disable/enable internet/mms/wap.
And the function to set network auto/gsm/3g does not work.
When choosing auto/gsm/3g it reconnects network. But never to gsm.
And when leaving the tool, you cannot relaunch the program for some mysterious reason.
Could this help you writing an updated version mr vanstra?

I have the dutch stock rom on my Touch HD.
Maybe is conflicts with the WWE stock rom.
I'll let you know when I have a new version ready (including english translation).

Can you test something for me ?
Can you look if the following registry key is available on your Touch HD:
\HKLM\Software\OEM\UMTS
This registry key must have a value 'Opmode'
Do you have an unbranded Touch HD ?

"(default) (value not set) REG NONE"
Underneath the umts key, there is also one called "Bandselection"
When selecting this one, it also states:
"(default) (value not set) REG NONE"
My Touch HD is indeed an unbranded one.

That's strange.
I also have a unbranded Touch HD but I don't have that registrykey.
The default is HKLM\Software\UMTS\OpMode.
Why does HTC use different registry keys ? Strange.

hi guys, had the same problem so installed 2 things and had to write a little script (with big pauses in the script or it didnt work).

We are talking about two different registry keys in HLM\Software\OEM\UMTS namely 'Opmode' (which I have) and 'bandselection' (which some others have).
Does your script changes both keys ?

HKLM\Software\OEM\UMTS is the only key it changes.

Thats not too practical if you want to switch quickly and often. After the 20th time becomes anoying

Hi Doaly,
The app you've linked to is Schaps Advanced Configuration Tool which most of us HD owners use alongside HD Tweak.
I don't know if running two config tools side by side will cause issues - i have both installed, but only really ever use Schaps.

Few unfixed problems in the kitchen

Ok, I decided to write new thread because most of the rom makers I pm to didn't answer me at all. Some kind of secrets or whatever. I think we should help each other to improve our ROM's but maybe I'm wrong.
I have some issues in my owe ROM which I can't really fix. Maybe someone will know the solution
1. Some ROM makers wrote in their changelogs that now CommMgr is really closing without being on the process list all the time? How?
2. I'm using EZinput keyboard 2.0.33633 full qwerty and two keyboards should be available: full qwerty and phone keyboard. Only the first one is present in the system (the second one now is standard MS keyboard instead of phone keyboard 2.0 EZinput). Why? I changed the EXT package many times to make sure it's ok and all the time the same issue...
3. Is there a working method to change system rings to wav? Every time I do it then they doesn't work. Do I have to change also some registry value?
4. Windows Media Player dosen't play any videos. I changed mHub and mHubVO into some other versions but still no efect. What else could be the reason?
That's all what I'd love to know to make my ROM better

I know how to manually switch between those keyboards using registry entries [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\ezsip]
CurrentSIP set to a00 is Phone Keypad and d00 for fullQWERTY. But still it's impossible to change it in menu (WM6.5 21725)
That's all I want to share with, maybe it will help someone. Should I expect some respond? I don't think so :]

Dude, about the comm manager, I don't know which version of comm manager are u using. But I got my comm manager working good n closing when clicked on x button. All I can say is don't use any new version like 2.8 or topaz comm manager. Use the 2.7.1.4 version. It's OG diamond comm manager n works nice. I'm using the same version.

The keyboard is still my biggest problem. I wonder what's wrong that I cannot switch between Full qwerty and phone keypad in the sip menu bar.

Did u try the GEN Y sip menu..??
I heard someone there saying that if we have the touchflo installed, then only we can change between the phone pad n qwerty board. But touchflo brings some more diff probs elsewhere.
Surprising issue this.. Coz it works perfectly fine with ezinput 1.

do u have a package of touchflo..?? If not, I'll mail it to you. Try to import it n see if it works. I had in the previous build of this kitchen.

i dont know..check gen y thread..u will definitely get moe help there. its surely been talked about in that thread.

I think I know the answer. Ability to change between keyboards wouldn't work on wm6.5 without HTC menuenhancement.

nope its not only that, u definitly need the touchflo package, but that package conlicts with wm 6.5
the only thing we can do is wait for HTC to bring out its first WM 6.5 rom for diamond2, then we can take the new touchflo or ezinput package from that rom
about the windows media player issue, make sure u have the DShow OEM in your rom

I do have it - DShow_2_0_19141126_0 - or maybe there is some newer? Or older working better?

there a slight newer one in my kitchen, here are the oems i use for multimedia:
- DShow_2_00_19143426_0
- mHub_6_57_080529_E0
- mHubVO_1_75_090515_X0
u should also check the following drivers in OEMDrivers:
- qtv.dll
- qtv_mp4_decoder.dll
try replacing those drivers

And again some damn issues in my kitchen
For last two days I was looking for the source of why my Face down mute ring stopped working. In registry everything is fine. Exept of registry, is there any dll library or something responsible for that? Also when I'm in windows file explorere and want to copy the file from IS to main memory (I do tap on "Copy")and then tap on the menu to choose the location then it crashed.
Any ideas for soulution those two problems?
PS. One more thing I forgot... I used to have my clock and calendar to set up automaticly the date and time after HR but now it seems to be gone... Is it up to network type currently using? GPRS/3G? Or maybe some registry value?

Thanks dude but it doesn't work. I was trying with both, 0 and 1 to make sure but still no effect. Friend of mine checked some others 6.5 ROM's and it seems that it doesn't work in any of them.

I found out that automatic time and date set works only if 3G/SHDPA network is available. So this question is out of date.
If anyone find the solution with face down mute ring then please let me know.
Another issue that I was hoping to solve is contact list popping up every time after SR. So in titanium softkeys registry I changed SK1URL into HTCActionScreen. And now... HTCActionScreen popping up every time after SR. Any solution for that?
