Help with Verizon TP2 teathering - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

I was an Alltel customer forced to Verizon. That I won't get into. Anyways with my old Alltel 6800 i could share the internet when I was out of town on my laptop. Is this possible with the VZW TP2? Do I have to pay to teather? If I do I will be pissed as it will be another thing that VZW has screwed up for me.
I have gone as far as running the Modem Link but farther than that I have no idea.

Try a program called CM Internet Sharing. Do a quick search and you should have no problem finding a cab. It turns your phone into a wi-fi hotspot. I don't know specifically about sharing via bluetooth or usb for Verizon, but that program should do the trick for ya.
Just be cognizant of your data usage

microsofts internet sharing app doesnt work? if they removed the icon its in the \windows folder. you have to sync it up with active sync just before. if not, what i used to do on my old cmda phones was set it to modem mode and set up a a dial up connection on the computer with the number being #777 (i think) and no user name or password. you cant have data and phone at the same time on cdma and the speeds of verizons 3g are as slow as atts 2g, but whatever works.

You can also try WMWiFiRouter. It turns your phone into a wireless router that you access via WiFi.

may i ask why i must pay attention to the amount of data i use? i never had to before, and since i used pandora and a few other websites 9 hours a day, i use alot of data. is "unlimited" not really unlimited. I'm at 1.4GB for the month.
I appreciate the help, i will try all of these.

there is pretty much no way to monitor data usage. thats how they getchya. if it says unlimited it probably is really unlimited. there would be too many lawsuits if it wasnt. if you really dont have unlimited then i wouldnt tether. computers are not frugal with data usage.

they do very much frown on tethering and the phone "phones home" althouh there are easy way around it.
CM wifi is very cool app and i used june fabrics"PdaNet" when i used verizion on palm 600; so easy to use that i installed on this sprint phone

well i was still able to teather on the alltel based phone, on verizon network, without getting yelled at. I really only teather when i am out of town for car meets and we need to get online for the schematics. Like i said, im not frugal when it comes to data, even just on the phone. I just don't need another $30 added to my bill for this. Also i did hear that ATT (I am verizon) is limited 5GB/month on their "unlimited" plan

i did 5gb a month a few times (ive torrented on my phone ), ive never gotten extra charges.

the $24.95 unlimited definitely lets you use the dash as a modem. i just did that a few weeks ago (i had a sprint mobile broadband card with me & that didn't even get reception where i was. my phone did though!)

[Q] Speed Problems with SGN

I have the stock Samsung Galaxy Nexus. AT&T Store put in a new Sim card. I kept my grandfathered data plan. I used Speedtest to check download speeds to confirm my observations.
Using wireless at home, I am getting about 11Mbps download speeds.
With cell phone connection at work or on the road or at the A&T Store - I am getting about 7kbps download speeds.
I went to the AT&T Store. They say there is nothing wrong with my data plan or AT&T linking. The APNs are right. I am on the high speed (HSPA+) network.
I am think that the wireless radio is different from the cell phone radio. If so, then the wireless radio is working right, and maybe the cell phone radio is not? Does this make sense? Is anyone else had this problem and found a solution?
Thanks in advance,

Unless your wireless internet in your house is from a tethered/hotspot device or some sort of "mifi" (does AT&T have these yet?), it will certainly be faster than your cellular connection. That is a function of the backhaul behind your internet connection at home versus the backhaul to the towers your phone is connecting to outside of your home. And even with those towers, each one may have a different load and different server access, and so speed will vary between towers, or even the same tower throughout the day. The wifi radio and cellular radio are separate in the phone, and the difference in speed you are seeing is a difference in the signal delivered to the phone, not the phone's ability to receive signals.
I live in Shaker and i'm getting 5mb/1.5 most of the time. When i head downtown my speeds drop by 2/3.
I'm using the suggested APN settings from this forum.
Thanks for the info.
The rep at the AT&T Store using his iPhone had 8Mbps download speed. Many of the posts here on the forums are reporting cell radio download speeds of 3-8 Mbps.
I realize that download speeds over the cell radio can vary, but when they never go above 7kbps, that suggests the cell radio is defective.
I guess I have to try to exchange the phone, if Expansys will help me.

Maybe it's defective. Try comparing it to AT&T's Galaxy S II (not the skyrocket!), or the Atrix, or any other HSPA+ Android (should have similar kernel when stock) device in the same location (the iPhone probably routs more power to its antennae since it has a battery-life surplus due to a smaller screen and lack of true multi-tasking/background processing).
My speeds have been dead on with what my Atrix got.
redo your apn's, make sure you're using auto or USA bands and try wcdma only temporarily. In the *#*#4636#*#* menu. The apns I think are under call settings.

Well I called AT&T Support. I finally got to 2nd level support. The tech their checked. He finally said there does not appear to be anything wrong with the phone. He said my unlimited data plan (grandfathered from 8 years ago) was the data plan for a feature phone. He asked what I had previous, and I told him an AT&T Tilt, which I ordered with the Media Max 200 Bundle.
He must have scratched his head, but said that the data plan I had did not support smartphones (huhh?), but he could upgrade my data plan to a smartphone plan for an extra $10. I asked about my grandfathered unlimited data, and he said the new smartphone plan would still be unlimited. (GREAT!) And no new contract!
He had me change the APN to the HSDPA one. Then he had me reboot the phone and check speedtest. My download speed was now up to an incredible 1.2Mbps, lots better than 7kbps. So I can live with that. I am not sure why i can't get the 3-5Mbps that others talk about, but this'll do.
Thanks for code reveal, very useful.
The reps are doing something weird trust me (At&t rep here). They're either putting the wrong plan or your device may be defective. If you have unlimited you got to have a 30$ feature called SMT PERSONAL. If its the 2gb plan it should be 2gb for smart phones.

I did get an $30 smartphone unlimited plan (old one was $20.). Is "SMT PERSONAL" some add on feature in addition to Smartphone Unlimited Plan?
Thanks for all the feedback. I have a callback scheduled Mon at work when I'll have a better connection. Data from home generally sucks anyway

Talk and Text on your tablet

I just found out about this app. I'm so mad!! >=.[
Once my Sprint plans runs out, Ima get me a MiFi device. For home use, I'll connect my laptop to this device, then I'll bridge my router to my laptop, thus allowing unlimited devices. =.P
I think this solves any Unlimited Talking and Text over data. Talk about cheating the system. The only downfall is that the MiFi devices usually have caps. =.[
Groove IP says it uses 1.2Mb per minute on a call, but I don't talk a lot. And I average 2GB per month. But that's only because I'm still in school and since I work there I can use the employee WiFi getting 12-15Mb speeds and at home I get 10Mb speeds. LoL!!
I kinda doubt I'll go to far since once I did 30GB from NetFlix on the Wii with about 4 other devices using my internet. Though now I think I'm just ranting. LoL!!
I have a Mifi from work. That thing doesn't provide a reliable connection for anything and its battery doesn't last long.
Save that money, get a GSM phone and a MVNO plan (Simple Mobile). You can also tether the phone to your Nexus via bluetooth.
Well by MiFi device I meant anything that does the same thing. I should have said a portable hotspots device. But I thought they're reception was just as good as a phone. So if you had a phone with the same service that means you wouldn't be getting as much service from work. And I have a 5000 mA battery charger. So battery isn't an issue. What's an issue is what you're telling me. If that's so, then it looks lyks my idea won't get me very far. LoL!! Thanks for the insight.
I have sprints unlimited data mifi...connection is great and f a s t.

S3 and Go Phone Plan

I am going to buy the US Version of the S3. I want to put it on the $50 go phone plan.
Through some research people said it will work, what I want to know is if you go over a certain amount of data per day, if you can trigger any kind of limitations? I realize there is probably a cap of under 2g which is fine.
I looked at ST, and when I read some threads on their "unlimited" plan ( Using ATT Network ), you will get kicked off the network, or get a phone call if you use more then 100mb a day... Which, if you wanted to watch some streaming videos for awhile you can hit that easily in one day. Unless someone has some other experience with ST and using more then 100mb and being fine, as long as you stay within their 2g limit?
ATT has the best coverage around me so the others really wouldn't work for now.
Thanks

at&t wifi hotspot on t-mobile

Hi, I was one of the att customers who was getting screwed/throttled after paying monthly for unlimited data for many, many years. After 2 consecutive months getting shut down on day 2 of my 30 day cycle I said "screw it", bought an unlock code, and now have tmo no contract, truly unlimited for $80 monthly, (with only 5g tethering). I downloaded the tmo app so I could track usage and pay my bill, (but froze tmo hotspot with titanium backup)
Using my att hotspot (which can't communicate with tmo) I routinely tether 6-7 devices using about 100g per month and have eliminated my $180 per month Uverse with mid-speed internet.
My speeds are routinely at 30-40 mbps - Life is good!
Flash back 3 months ago ............
I talk my friend into ditching sprint and his silly little iphone 4s, telling him about tmo truly unlimited, and I buy him a tmo branded N3 off of swappa, (since he was going to tmo). I knew very little about tethering back then, but knew tmo hotspot would meter his tethering.
So now he has hit 5g and his hotspot has been turned off.
Is there a way to install an att hotspot, (or any other) on his stock tmo N3 (which is rooted) or do we need to install a whole new rom? Looking for a quick, unmetered fix -
(PDA net has been mentioned a zillion times but does it really work like my att hotspot, set it/forget it) masks all tethering?
As usual, my answer is pay $2.50 for Wifi Tether Router... set a password... everything else default... Done.
At least... it works for me.

Not working for me, tried a zillion settings, (it's been a couple of weeks).
Funny thing is, I can get to google, I can type in "nfl", a bunch of links pop up, but when I click on one, won't connect, spins round and round, then times out. Links to pages won't load? How can I access google, (and other sites), but then that's it?, I thought I was either connected to the internet, or NOT? anyways .......
I think is has something to do with T-Mobile turned off the hotspot at 5gs tether, and these programs are NOT hotspots, they just mask the data so it cannot be measured. and when they turn on tmo's hotspot, it doenst work.
If I turn on tmos hotspot, I get redirected to their upsell page).
(maybe wifi tether routher will work in a few days when the new billing cycle begins and the hotspot is turned back on)
That being said, I originally asked how I could install the ATT "hotspot" so I could use that to tether, (like I do on my unlocked att N3 that I run a tmo sim in). the att hotspot cannot communicate with tmo so I tether 100gs per month and tmo measures zero data tethered.
So how can install the att hotspot?
I probably have to install the entire att rom, that's fine?
The phone in question is a rooted tmo. Can someone tell me how to install the att rom so I can get my friends N3 work the same as mine has the last 5 months using atts hotspot?
"at&t wifi hotspot on T-Mobile"
I still haven't received an answer to this question.
I'll expand it a little bit .... Can I install the stock at&t rom on my tmo N3?
(if so, can u post a link so I can get started - thx
Forget installing a at&t rom... If you are rooted.. Just install a different rom that has unlimited tethering.. Trust me it will work.. I tether WAY more then the 5gbs thats allowed.. And I havent been throttled or anything... My hotspot still works great
