Opera Mini 5 Beta - ideas? - HTC Excalibur

I downloaded Opera Mini 5 Beta 2 today. It seems that they have managed to fix the keyboard buttons - at least. But I can't click to accept the licence.
Has anyone got it running yet?

Already been discussed. You can't get past the EULA screen so it is unusable. Use Skyfire or UCWEB6 instead, they're better browsers anyway.

I downloaded it today and it worked for me, directly from my mobile.
As for the keyboard it still got issues (half of th keyboard section works fine and the other half works strange) but it's good for reading.
Still doesn't support flash videos.
(sorry for my bad english)

Opera Mini 5 beta is out
Explains how to get past the accept the license on earlier ROMs it's due to jbed version.
Also says about the inline input to which turn off.
On that note please search in future before creating a new thread.

It is there in many threads, I myself put it couple of times under couple of phones, anyways in Beta 1 it used to be called Inline Editing, in Beta 2 it is Fullscreen edit.
to fix this issue:
Menu >> Settings >> Advanced >> Fullscreen edit >> ON

I've downloaded Opera mini 5 beta 2 from Opera homepage, but it's seem to be not support unicode ? What should I do ?

thx!!!!!! much appreciated
I know this has been/will be asked a million times over, but is there any noticable difference from the July 10 "Leak"?
In the settings screen shown on HTC's website, all information matches exactly the July 10 release.
Please advise.
Opera?
Anyone know if the Official ROM includes Opera, like the july10th did?
Thanks
Do this ROM got the enlarged status icons (volume, battery, etc.) screen when clicking on status icons like on the Telus leaked ROM?
If so, is there any way to remove it?
I tried HKLM->Software->HTC->EnlargeTitleBar->Enable=0 without success.

Yes, it does include Opera Mobile 8.65.....
Curious.
How come the leaked (about a week ago) version is larger than the one just put on the HTC site?
3.03.651.4 (7/10/08) is 78.9mb
3.03.651.4_2 (7/18/08) is 76.6mb?
What (if anything) is missing or changed?
i dont see the download file - just a blank screen with FAQs etc?????
Where did it go?
I'm guessing that it was not supposed to be posted until Monday or something, because at this point it's not up there anymore.
Here is the link to the file off of the HTC site (yes the official site) which was saved in my broswer history:
http://216.139.227.226/RUU_PPST_Vogue_SPRINT_WWE_3.03.651.4_2_Radio_3.42.30_AM_NV_2.04_Ship.exe
regarding the difference (from boggsie over at PPCGeeks):
I compared the last two RUU_WWE's and while the 2.nbh file did change, everything else was the same.
I compared the contents of the 2.nbh files and the changes apperar to be very, very minor.
SYS folder is identical (binary comparison) except for \Metadata\default.hv
OEMDrivers folder is identical except for a single DSM file and the corresponding RGU file. The difference in the RGU file was one single line: "ROMVersion"="3.03.651.6" This, in contrast to the filename and the update screen, which both include: "3.03.651.4"
One difference that does draw my attention is that the PPST CAB files have the same names (PPST_08516_7500_SPCS_2.04.sa.CAB) but the files are different and the file contents are quite a bit different.
Other than these items, the differences seem to be limited to the way that the released build was packaged ...
For example, the last leaked build had nested in the OEM\OperatorPKG\Hidden.cab file, another cab file that included "Telus_NIM" which is not present in today's released build.
Best regards,
-boggsie

In my personal experience, GPS is MUCH better than any previous versions and this new version seems to be a bit quicker than the leaked .4

I installed the Telus ROM and it does not include Opera. Also, the Telus ROM does include some crap like Telus Navigator (very bas GPS software) and Telus Icons (Today addon) and Telus theme. They should not be included in Sprint ROM.
can someone please post the Instructions??? Thanks

- d/l ROM .exe file into PC
- attach Touch to USB to PC
- get ActiveSync working
- do any backing up that you may require as ALL Touch memory will be wiped
- run ROM .exe file from PC
- follow instructions, take ~10minutes
- sometimes requires an additional HARD reset (TALK+END+reset button) after install is done to bring in Opera and a few other goodies.

Is that ActiveSync step necessary, or is it just useful for the backing up part?

Something must have gone wrong
Upgraded using the download link above
and it worked without a hitch. Thanks!
GPS works like a charm in both Google maps and Live Search maps.
The Opera browser is Opera Mobile. I used Opera Mini, which is free by the way up till now, and I like it a lot better than Opera Mobile so it's a little confusing why they put this version in but then after all.. it is Sprint. Not a lot of advantage to Opera Mobile over IE to me.
The Sprint tech who reset my phone the other day because it was dropping calls all the time said Win 6.1 solves 'a lot of problems' in that area. Who knows. Maybe. Let's hope so. I will say that after they did the hard reset it quit dropping calls so beware that if you load a lot of software it can effect the call dropping. I had Skype, changed the touch flow settings, different java, opera mini, etc etc etc etc etc. so who know's which one messed it up.
GPS is cool. The new Qwerty keyboard is a huuge improvement and I probably won't need TouchPal now. I will load Opera Mini and hopefully it works.
Thanks for the update Sprint/HTC! Thanks too for the links and help above!
p.s. tried opera mini and several minutes after using it the phone locked up. sick of messing with that and don't want to bother loading
another version of java again.
bottom line... Windows Mobile still doesn't have a browser that's worth a crap.
...more
GPS works in Google Maps and Live Search Maps
Works in both for me. Didn't have to change any settings.
I thought it wasn't working at first
In Google Maps you have to have My Location enabled and select Use GPS in the menu
In LiveSearch Maps you have to select Center on GPS in the menu to show your position on map
select View, Lat/Lon to display your position
It takes around 30 seconds to get a lock for me in Redmond, Wa area once I select Use GPS
Google maps it shows it's tracking 6 satellites.
LiveSearch map does not show the number of satellites.
Upgraded smoothly!

I just upgraded from the leaked version to version 3.03.651.4 without a hitch! The only changes I noticed are the Sprint Navigation (actually works), this one has the Opera browser, and it upgraded me from Windows Basic to Professional! Not a bad deal!
The only thing I am noticing so far is I can't connect to the internet. I suspect it's because the current username (located under "Settings>Device Information") show "[email protected]", and should show my actual Sprint email as the username. I think this will change once it's fully provisioned after the ROM upgrade. I'll keep everyone updated on this.

It would be nice if someone could tweak this to have more than three tabs and cab it back up...
to make it more than 3 tabs all you need is just go to opera:config ; there is an option in there to increase tabs if i remember correctly

Right, I know, but I've seen plenty of tweaked Opera cabs as well as copies included in roms like ROMeOS that have minor tweaks like that already done. I was just curious if anyone here knew how to modify and repackage something like that for redistribution purposes.

If I don't like the new opera, is there a possibilty to get the old one back?

Opera Diamond from the Updater.

There seems to be a problem with keyboard input, whenever I use the hardware keyboard it shuts off the text input and you have to keep clicking it - anyone else got the same problem?
The same
I have the exact same problem
If I'm understanding you correctly, your wanting the on screen keyboard to not disappear after sliding out the hardware keyboard?
If it didn't disappear, you would have a tiny area for the display when you slid out the hw keyboard with the sw keyboard on the screen.
I'm not sure if that's what you mean. If that's not it, you should post in the thread for the rom your using.
Not exactly
This build lets You imput the target URL easly only via on screen keyboard.
If You open the url window and You will start using hardware keys to input URL the URL box vanishes after a few clicks an You have to open it again.
Maciek
Ahh, ok, I get what your saying now.
It's probably one of the issues they have with the build of opera. It has been stripped from a rom. I don't use that version, I use opera mini, so I haven't seen the issue. You might be able to poke around in the dev and hacking section and see if anyone has a fix or workaround. Also try the search dropdown and see if you can find the issue being talked about anywhere else.
Propably the issue is that this is a Diamond version.
Touch Pro version should work properly with HW keyborad.

I looked there and it's confusing. The first post lists a ton of different builds with a huge range in numbers, there are 15 pages of posts, and on page 15 additional builds 16453 and 16643 are mentioned.
I don't know if I would just dismiss the original poster's question so casually.
I dont understan what all these numbers mean even? Which build works best with the blackstone? Right now i think the Opera Mobile that was originally installed on my blackstone is dreadfully slow that i find myself using opera mini more often than not. Even though opera mini isnt very user-friendly.
Every build releasing until ver. 9.7 is the same like others. The default build in Blackstone is 16070 and may be the last stable. I expect 9.7 but now there are no hopeful prospects about soon releasing.

Opera 10 Beta

Anyone installed this and got passed the disclaimer? It installed fine, but after scrolling down the disclaimer and trying to press the accept button it does not go down far enough. Any ideas?

I couldn't get passed that point, either. I would guess the Opera developers are concentrating on touch screens now and don't do much testing on standard devices anymore.
After trying for about 10 minutes to get passed that point, I gave up and deleted the program.

Maybe they should say that on their download page because they indicate that it IS compatible. It just reinforces my negative opinion of Opera on all platforms.
im using it on my Dash, the only problem is that you need to download FakeCursor so you can accept. After that you made need to use FakeCursor again to goto settings and such, but other than that it works great!

To me it just isn't worth the trouble to go through just to get it to work. Opera is a has-been by now. Firefox Mobile will be coming out in a bit, and right now UCWEB6 works great, as well as Skyfire. So there just isn't a need for Opera anymore.
