Dear member,
I am new to this rom update. I am confused with many rom available for updating WM6 to wm6.1. I am using At&t 8525-wm6. Now i want to update it to wm6.1. Can any one please help with the best rom link to download and update my 8525 os.
I am using HP laptop with vista ultimate-32bit.
Thanks in advance.
Krishna
"the best rom" is all preference really, you should try them out and see which one works best for you etc.
im using CrC's rom, however people are having troubles with V10 so go for v9 in my opinion however other people have other views.
I tried crcs and farias r32 wm6.1,, I think wm6 is better to tytn, cos wm6.1 needs more ram.. and the device cant work well with multitasks..
now I´m using schaps wm6 4.31. and its better than all wm6.1 in my opinion
bye
I definately agree with sebastianmc. Schaps WM6 (4.31) is one of the best roms available. My suggestion is to steer clear of WM6.1 ROMs since they tend to be buggy and if you still have hair in your head, you'd be ripping them off a hand full at a time.
Schaps is supposedly going to release his WM6.1, so hang tight and give it a shot when it is posted here.
Thanks for the question and the answers. I have been running JJ's Black Magic ROM since way back and it is still going strong on my device. But am feeling the urge to jump to a new ROM. I will try Schaps 4.31 and see. I will wait for a 6.1 ROM.
Thank you
Dear Members,
Thanks for the valuable information. I am going to install Schap's wm6 Pro 4.31 on my 8525. Is Schap's wm6.1 final version released?
Well I had Schwaps, (sp) 4.31 on my phone for months without a single issue.
Until I was getting random deaths with my Bluetooth GPS and TomTom, then I was getting hard times to answer the phone, would hit answer and it would still ring 2 or 3 times before I could get it. Probably just from being stale in my phone for months with dozens of apps installed and removed.
I changed to the latest CRC release and was loving it, until this AM the phone was locked up completely. It was so locked I did a hard reset on it. I did stay with the CRC. Its a great rom. I love the speed of it, I really like the way it handles SMS messages, ah hell I like everything about it.
Only draw backs is that it is not a "loaded" app. There is no office, no games, no big clock on your desktop. You have to add all that stuff in later. Ands it appears to be a game of Russian roulette when you hit the button to install.
I would browse around all the roms, even do a quick install of a few and play with them for a day. If you don't like it change to a new one.
I am in the same boat as you , I want, I need, a rom that has all the windows bells and whistles with office. Pocket Rar would be good. Windows Audio player would be good. Ah well I am going to keep searching.
Thank you for ur advice mr . it was helpful .. the question now is did u find something better as u said coz i am looking for something as u do
Shadow CE
I don't know why you guys experience such headache with 6.1 ... I've tried every 6.1 posted and they had mostly all given me issues (mostly speed) .. But the one 6.1 rom that i daily use is Shadow CE . It's fast, reliable and never (seldomly) ever gives me issues .
I reboot once a week, sometimes less . with Shadow CE 6.1 ..
I use ShaDoW's rom too and I love it as far as 6.1 roms go. I haven't had to reboot it at all since I've had it on, ... wait a minute - yea I did, 1 time. Sorry, and I have been running it since it came out a while a go.
The only trouble I have with it is the MMS service. I don't use bluetooth or any of that other stuff though.
Its a very stable rom for 6.1. I've been trying a different 6.0 rom lately and miss ShaDoWs rom. Will be going back to it in the next day or so.
try this one....
i love it ....

Hey,
Firstly i would like to say Thanks for this XDA Developers forum, its a goldmine of help and a great community!
Ive just got an Excalibur and im not sure what i want to upgrade to in terms of ROMS, I know theres the ROSE and the KAVANA, there both use Windows Mobile 6.1 as far as i know, both both come with different software.
I would use it mostly for MSN, and Downloading Games and software onto it but not sure what to go for!
Which are you all using and what would you recommend?

I would guess your gonna get different answers from different people. My personal answer would be to go for Ricky/Stylez Rose ROM v1.6 Completely stable, its got ya MSN in it that ya want, but also includes Opera Mini which is a great little browser for surfing, either via Wifi or GPRS if ya out and about. If you did choose to go for the Kavana ROM, go for the re-made by Ricky v24, but like i said, v1.6 Rose ROM would be your best Hope that helps
I would go for either Ricky's version 24 of the 6.1 Rom or the Nrg Rose Remake Rom by Ricky and Stylez... That would be your best bet... and just follow the tutorial that shows you how to upgrade...
Here go here Click here
I would suggest a nice Rose rom, followed with a succulent dish of SmartToolKit build RC08, sprinkled with several spicy apps that pepper this fine forum.
The best way is to try the 3 best recommendations from users and keep the one suits you better according to your needs
Me recommendation is: WM6.1 Kavana 080408
Remade By Rickywatt
Good luck,
I also love the Rose Rom Remake, it is amazing...
I am a bit of a newb to the hermes and was wondering what is the best/most stable rom for wm6.?? (I'm on orange UK by the way)
Would appreciate any opinions and links to the roms.
I have spent ages reading through various posts but keep getting lost/confused.
I have done the hard spl upgrade and have a sd card ready for the upgrade. Now it's the big question of which rom.
Would like one that is ready to go with most of the basics already there rather than one of the really lite ones I think, but not sure which would be best ?
I probably should say it's an M3100
Thanks in advance....steve
Which one that is best for you, might not be the one that is best for someone else. Each cook has their own style.
Try several, I would suggest CRC's, Tai's, Josh's, or kareme's
You really will have to try several to see what fits you best.
I have not tried any of the 6.5 roms out, mainly because it seems there are still bugs to be worked out.
Don't bother with WM6
There's not really that significant a jump from WM5 - and you can get an official WM6 ROM!
IMHO 6.1 is the way to go, for now...
Spoiler Alert!!
Umm.. I've been trying the WM 6.5 Version XXX76 from Tai... I am mighty impressed... I thot it'd need lots of ram to keep 6.5 running.. this is fast man... 6.5 though there are no paradigm shifts from 5,6 or 6.1... even the beta seems better that 6.1...
currently my rnaking would be
1. 6.5 ( I am liking waht I am seeing.. this is the speed king... 76 fro TAI is stable as any other ROM)
2. 6 (faster... than most of the other Versions and not plain as 5
3. 6.1 (lots of fixes on this but slow.. slow...slow)

There are 2 new 6.5 ROMs worth trying
I just bought a 8525 for $125 USD. It's awesome. I first settled on one of Schap's ROMS - Schaps_WM6Pro_Hermes_4.31_WWE_Full.
It was really nice but now it is sadly behind the times. There are 2 new 6.5 ROMs worth trying:
1 21189_Lite_V9_Update1
2 21193_Lite_V10
I installed the 1st and stopped there because it is so awesome. The Hermes no longer has to hide in the shadows of all the new $600 Pda/phones out there.
One thing about 6.5 is that there is no "programs" section per se in the titanium feature(?). So I went to a SPBplus4 Today Screen.
It's much more convenient for accessing fexplorer and task mgr.I did do an auto hide on the tabs and minimized the icons so it would look like one of the newer phones. Appreciate all the hard work everyone put in.
My ROM request (if anyone's interested) is for a full featured 6.5 -something like K's ROM with TAI's finesse dominating - BUT without IE or OFFICE or WM built in. I am surprised all the great cooks include these. I have found Skyfire, TCPMP work great and I don't need Office at all.
And the START MENU sections on the 6.5 should go directly to the same categories as before except more like :
Programs, SYSTEM Settings, Connection Settings, Personal Settings, TODAY settings, TOOLS (regedit, fexplore, taskmgr), GAMES, PICTURES, VIDEOS, MUSIC, AND the option to add or customize your own AND be able to have it show before Programs, and stay there after a SR!
I am a newbie but I know what I want. Thanks again to all the cooks for making carrying a phone everywhere exciting and useful and for showing the big companies how to really do it. They keep putting out these improved ROMs (performance-wise) but they have no idea what to do with them.
Jupiter and Titan from AZ USA.
I am also trying to figure out how to automatically add my apps from the SD card after a HR. Autorun or something like that. Anyone know of a thread that shows a newbie how to do it?

Yes Josh what do you mean?? i've also downgrade back to WM 6.
I've tried your WM 6.5 Its great but for now im looking forward for the hybrid rom.
I personally like Tai_SW's 21109 rom. It seems to be really stable though that could be because its a hybrid WM6.1/WM6.5 rom.
Have 2 Hermes, on my main I use 21109 but test others on my "spare"...
I don't tend to like the Hex or titanium roms as the RAM is low and storage space seems to abot 45Mb or less while I use about 50 Mb for the apps I like. I need to have as much RAM as possible too so I don't end up with system freezes when I run a REALLY RAM hungry app.
Cheers...
binky11 is the most stable ever, but it will be the perfect rom when manill2d them inside.
PERFECT
thanks
Tai_SW's wm6.1 lite roms are superb, fast, stable, & lot's of free memory!!

Josh meant that WM6.5 is great and once you've tried it, you don't want to back to 6.1 anymore
I use DarkWinter2 from Josh and it works fine for me.
PDAViet DVH_V27... I have tried other ROMS - some of them really nice, but there was always something, which made me to go back to DVH_V27.. too bad this guy does not cook for hermes anymore..

Not neccesary. I tried one day 6.5 Josh rom (GS or else edition), but it was lagging, so I re-flased it the same day. Now I'm using Josh V15 colored 3G and is wonderful

English?
Anyway, I can't say I agree with what I think this guy said. I've run Kavana and Ricky's v24 for extended periods of time and both were very stable and fast compared to either of the new Rose roms. Also, the battery life is MUCH better with the older roms.
The software offered in the roms are pretty close across the board, though I would compare NRG's Rose 1.3 with Kavana and the 1.7 Ricky/Stylez remade Rose with Ricky's v24.
The Rose rom is supposedly easier to customize because of the new core being used, but honestly, I don't screw around with my homescreen much after I have it set the way I want, so I don't care about having to soft-reset from time to time after changes.
The only reason I'm sticking with the Rose 1.7 at the moment, is because I do think that it's more polished than the older roms (aesthetically)... though I may end up going back to Ricky's v24 in the future if the battery life and occasional freeze ups piss me off enough.

So what ROM did you settle on? I'm considering going back to Ricky's v24... running Rose v1.7 with Miniweather 1.3 and my network connection never disconnects on its own after an update, which I think is killing my battery life.
Kavanas this week lol.... i didnt have my phone for about three months and when i came back the rose roms were out... the text messaging in Kavanas "not sure about ricky's i have not used that one in awhile". but the predictive text actually remembers text such as my name gymwhaley in Kavanas.. in rose remade 1.7 i dont believe it did, or i just may not have had the settings correct.. . those three are great but i test with one hand alot and sign in to places online so having predictive text that remebers words not in a english dictonary makes things a little faster
FYI, the predictive text can be fixed in the Rose rom by installing the Tegic T9 cab, IIRC. Anyway, I'm not trying to sway you one way or another... I'm just curious. As I said, I'm not sure that I'll stick to the Rose yet myself... my biggest pet peeve with it is the bad battery life, which I believe the network connection not disconnecting may be a contributing factor. It's also more prone to lockups when trying to get into the new comm manager and a few other places.
i saw that a few days ago about the fix for predictive text, but had already swiched, batt life was not vay good, but i know i need a new batt so until i get one i really cant comment on it... and alot of lockups i had were do to smart took kit rc 09 or what ever on 1.7. using 8 now and have no problems.. ( on 1.7 and kanvanas )i know 9 had problems but i had to give it a try anyways. and i did have a few comm manager issues in 1.7... cant wait till another rom comes
Just a quick update... it seems the network never disconnecting is a byproduct of NRG's MiniWeather 1.2 and 1.3 application. I tried them again, using the appropriate roms, and the network connections stays on regardless. So please disregard my previous assertion that the Rose roms were causing the connection issue.
thank u so much for the feedback..
im thinking i should stick to kavana for a while, i am really new to these stuff so i am thinking of sticking to the basics.
yeah battery is another main factor,
i noticed that since ive been using kavana... the battery isnt giving that much time as it used to in WM5... i havent really checked it.. its just a hunch...

Which version(s) are able to cope with the german keyboard layout of my XDA Cosmo? Somewhere I read that some versions are English only, which does not hurt, i am just curious if i can select the proper keyboard...

Number of hours isn't a good question, because many of us are no longer using the oem battery, so it's not apples to apples. I'm using a Seidio battery which is the same size, but approximately 30% higher capacity than the stock battery.
With Ricky's v24 remake of Kavana's rom, I would typically need to charge every other day (36-40 hours). With the Rose, I need to charge approx. every 18-20 hours or so. But I don't know how much of the decrease in battery life is attributable to the rom and how much is because of the Edge connection staying on constantly because of NRG's MiniWeather.
I would definitely consider Ricky's v24 if you want to maximize battery life...it's very similar to Kavana, but has numerous apps already installed with the rom. I started out with Kavana and had "upgraded" to v24 within a couple weeks.

No You can'. At least for now. This Touch Pro 2 is running TF3D, which don't exist for qvga devices
gregorysl is right. However the most similar to that is M2D. Something like http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=458456
running TouchFlo on Hermes always a problem, it just dont have enough RAM for it.
I have been trying to find a ROM with TouchFlo that does not leave me with 15MB of RAM for a while now. So if any body can find me a TouchFlo ROM that works on Hermes, please let me know
Yes, M2D don't have enought memory for hermes. The best combination I have found it's tai's lite rom and HTC Home. M2D=allways problems.
i have m2d running on tai's rom with no problems really, well nothing that is too irritating anyway
