Running AT&T Stock ROM on the Tilt II.
My annoyance is that, if I have a text conversation open, my phone does not make a sound or vibrate upon receipt of a new text message from that person. So if I leave it displaying the messages from that dialogue, and lock the phone, it won't give me a notification when I receive a message.
Anyone know a way to disable this annoying 'feature'?
Thanks

I'd love a fix for this also. I've seen it on most all ROM's I've tried. If the HTC messaging app is open (not sure if the MS messaging does it also) I don't get notified of txt messages.
This means either you should close the app after each message, or remember to check it during a "conversation" with somebody. Very annoying.
Anybody have any ideas?
Thanks,

I have handcent (which I prefer to the standard HTC text) but whenever I receive a text I get alerts for both the HTC text AND Handcent. So I have to open them both in order to clear the notification bar. I've been looking for ages to find a way of disabling the HTC text but can't find anything.
Also I have a virtually identical problem with emails. whenever I receive email to my Gmail account, I receive two notifications, one for Googlemail and one for Mail. Again, I have to open them both in order to clear the notification bar.
Anyone know how to fix this? Thanks.

you don't need to open the message, just scroll down (pull down) the notification bar and on the top right it should say "Clear" and that will get rid of any notifications you have got exept for music when its playing or any other program you've got running that has an icon on the notification bar..
hope this helps!

Switch off notifications in the "Messages" app (within app untick Menu->Settings->Received Notification")
Switch off notifications in one of "Gmail" or "Mail" (similarly can be done via settings in Gmail/Mail.)
Regards,
Dave
Thanks for that, I have actually done so but I still have a problem when receiving texts. When a text comes in, I'm presented with the text displayed in the stock messaging box, I have to close that and open handcent to reply - which is quite annoying.
Any thoughts?

This is the answer because that's exactly what myself and many others have done. I can tell you that it works.
You must have unchecked the wrong options.

When you say the "stock messaging box", are you referring to the HTC widget? If so, you need to remove this. Also, have you ticked "Enable popup" in Handcent's notification settings?

Hello
So I have experienced my first "bug" with my GN (or maybe it's ICS?)
I was browsing in chrome when I noticed at the bottom it said "message received" in an overlay. As you do when you get a message while using the phone.
What didn't happen was it didn't scroll through the message at the top of the screen in the status bar. I thought it was a bit weird. So I opened my messages and nothing new was there. It didnt make any sound either, so I thought I was crazy and moved on.
As I was having a conversation with my partner at the time, she messaged me a few mins later wondering what my response was and I told her I didn't receive anything at all.
This is quite concerning. The phone most definitely recognised I got a message but it didn't show up. She said she sent 2 messages. Has anyone else experienced something similar?
We're both on the same network if its even possible this could be a carrier issue.
The "message received by <phone number>" toast message at the bottom of the screen is the other party receiving one of your messages. You turn this on in Messaging > Settings > Delivery reports. This will show next to the time stamp of every sent message in a thread the SMS icon with a green check mark over it whenever the message is confirmed to be received by the other party
You not receiving messages is a different issue. Try installing something like "Ghostly SMS" to see if your phone is losing SMS messages. I haven't heard of this as an issue in ICS yet.
Does anyone know how to stop the notification for delivery report or at change the tone? Right now it is set to the same tone as my sms notification and I can't seem to find a way to change it. It's really annoying because I always think I get a text but it is the delivery report. I would just change to a third party sms app but I like how my sms show up on the lock screen with the stock app. Any suggestions?
If you go into Settings in Messages you can set the notification tone for received messages and if you scroll further down you can disable the notifications for sent and failed messages and also set a different notification tone than your received one.
Sorry for the long run on sentence. My brain isn't functioning too well today.

Yeah, the notification for sent message is off right now. There doesn't appear to be an option for delivery notification which is different from sent message. It's the little checkbox thing next to texts when you send an sms to people on the same carrier.
Found it (maybe?). Settings, Text messages (SMS), deselect Delivery Reports. Also appears to have it under Multimedia Messages.
Yeah I still want the delivery report icon next to my texts, I just don't want a notification. If I uncheck it I lose them completely. That's how it has been for every other sms app I have used. I guess I'll have to just live without them.
Everytime i send an SMS or whatsapp I get a notification of my outbound message in the same way an inbound message notification.
I can't see any setting to switch this off. Its pretty annoying especially when using Android Auto..
You getting this too?

No I don't know
i dont get those messages, are you sure it's not app specific?
I am having a delay in receiving text messages even after altering the bat saver settings for the messaging app to run in the background.
So I send myself a text from another phone and I get no message.
Then I open messages and still no text.
Then I send a message out and all the messages I have been waiting one appear.
Can someone please help me on how to fix this issue?
thanks
Niko

It's like the push notification isn't activated until a long time or after I send a message. Also when I do send the message to trigger the receiving of messages there is a slight pause that says sending on the outgoing message.

Sorry, I’m interested in buying this phone and I was just stopping by to see what folks had to say about your issue. Could you tell me did you ever figure out what your issue is?
Never experienced such an issue with mine...
I get SMS messages pretty fast after they have been sent (for instance verification codes and so on)
Myne is an EU version if that makes any difference...
