Getting rid of the "Notification Panel" - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Ok. I have searched for this and cannot find it.
When I receive - for example - a text message and the icon pops up in the top bar and I click on it...
With the T2, it takes me to the Notification Panel which gives me the battery level and the remaining memory and a message that says I have a text. Duh!
On 6.1 (Fuze), you could disable that through settings>TouchFlo. I cannot find the way to disable that Notifications Panel in 6.5. Is it still possible? Perhaps w/a Reg Edit if not via menu.

There is a utility available to turn Notification Manager on or off - NRG includes it in his ROMs.
Alternatively, there is a Reg edit - find the key HKLM\Services\NOTIFICATIONMANAGER\Flags. It should be 0 by default - change it to 4. This stops the HTC notification manager running and restores the default WM functionality.
Cheers,
Jim.

@Ramsfan_Jim - Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU.... that stupid notification manager was really ticking me off, and not to mentioned.. it freed up quite a bit of memory.
Again, Thank You!!!

O2 standard Apps

Does anyone know where I can download and install the standard O2 apps that are installed as part of the WM5 customization after a hard reset?
I've just upgraded my Orbit to WM6 and am missing these as they were really useful. I'm not intrested in other apps as I know these O2 ones worked fine and didn't drain the battery etc etc.
The 3 I'm after are,
1) Running Apps for the Today screen
2) Battery Meter
3) Memory usage Meter
4) O2 task manager shortcut Icon
Thanks.
These will be the ones I'm after, all shown on this review just before half way down the page in the screen shots.
http://www.4winmobile.com/forums/4wm-reviews-hardware/7982-o2-xda-orbit.html
Meters allows you to show up to three level meters for Battery, Memory, and Storage card. Each meter can be tapped on to show; a plain bar, the bar with percentage, or bar with Mb free.
Running Apps displays a simple line of icons indicating which programs are currently running in the background, tapping the icon switches to that program.
Shortcuts allows for up to five shortcuts to be configured for launching, tapping on the icon launches the program.
Task Manager - this is activated via the 'O2 bubble' which resides in the bottom bar of the today screen. A single tap on it brings up a brushed metal pop-up which displays the running applications and an options menu. The 'X' next to the listed applications allows each application to be terminated manually when required. Options allows you to select which O2 Custom Today applets are usable on the Today screen, as well as allowing you to define the shortcuts for the Shortcut applet.
They are all in the 'Items' menu of the 'Today' setup in preferences. You need to turn on Meters, Profiles and Shortcuts.
Thanks for the reply and they woudl be if I was still running my O2 ROM and it had run the customization to install them after a hard reset but I've upgraded to BEBE's WM6 ROM which doesn't have any of the O2 utils loaded.
Anyone else on where I can get these? Would anyone with an O2 Orbit ROM be able to pull the customization CAB install files out of their ROM somehow for me?
I just sent you a PM. I can email them to you.

Can you upload these files somewhere?
I just checked the ftp site and they are already there...
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Artemis/Extended_ROMs/O2_Orbit_UK_1.25.206.101_extended_rom.zip
Big thanks to Mark for that and the email. All loaded on and the meters runnings apps and O2 bubble task manager are all there and I'm almost back to where I was on WM5..
However SPB Time fails to wake up the phone from a screen saver locked state with sound, sure it'll flash up the screen with snooze or dismiss red and green buttons but no sound errm kinda makes it useless as an Alarm Clock and as I'm sure all the rest of you out there do I really rely on my phone as an Alarm.. I've been late 2 days in a row now because of this, no joke so.. errm kinda critical for me to get fixed..
Any ideas people. I've even un installed the paid for version I had and installed the latest version (trial) from their site

Hello,
At the risk of sounding stupid, I've just downloaded the zip file for the extended roms. I've unzipped it and gathered from the config file that I should place the cab files in specific locations... My question is, is there a (semi)automatic way of installing it? If not, should I follow the paths found in the config file? Also, there are a few files missing, ie the bmp files, do I need them? Lastly, what about the config.txt the file... where is that to be placed?
Sorry for the barrage of questions Noob here, just want to make sure I understand this the right way!
Thanks for all the help!

Text Messaging softkeys after change to WM6

With WM5, the softkeys were
Left softkey: New (text message)
Right softkey: Menu
after upgrading my Cingular 8525 to WM6 it is not that useful:
Left softkey: Delete
Right softkey: Menu
In effect, to create a new message I need to select Menu and then New.
Is it possible to assign New to the left softkey?

Nope, not if your talking about in the messages screen. You can, however, set a soft key on the today screen to New SMS.
this has been a problem since the leak of WM6, search around, can't remember if theres a solution or not because it doesn't bother me that much, most of the time i'm replying to texts.
Take a look here, and here.

Thanks for a quick answer. I have no idea why Microsoft decided that the typical action when going to Text Messages would be to delete a message and not write a new message. You may store hundreds of messages without noticing a dent in the available memory.
How to create a shortcut from the Today screen to New SMS or reassining one of the softkeys to this function?

Use softkey changer (attached). If it gives you the error "missing file tnsms" then drop the attached corresponding file in ur /windows folder.
Kiitos Karhu and thanks mcorrie1121. I will test your solutions.
The SoftKey.cab from the link in Karhu's post is the only thing needed. One item on the list of commands to assign to a softkey on the Today screen is "New SMS". Works perfectly.
If you do not mind one more tap you can also use WM5 New Menu - provides more options than just new SMS.

The only thing I would like different is if it didn't open up the comm. Manager to actually switch it, if it made the change right from the home screen it would be perfect, anyone know of something like that???I found something called cicleBT that work well however its not on the Today screen home page, I have the HTC home plugin and can put it in the app launcher and its cool. Any way of making it so it works as a plugin on the home screen.

Nice! Haven't seen this one before.
can this be changed to be a plugin
Just want to see if there was a way of making this so that it was a plugin on the today home screen say just under the HTC home plugin aligned to the left side and have my calendar show up to the right of it??? A nice little icon there that is large enough to use my finger to push???
Anyone know how to do a mod like this??
Thank you I wish I knew how to do it, any help would be appreciate.
Cheers!!
are you lookin for freeware? b/c if NOT then spb phone suite has today screen components, 1 of which is like a button that displays a sub menu allowing you to turn phone, bluetooth, and wi-fi on/off and also flight mode. you can even tap and hold on each to access more options (ex: bluetooth modes, vibrate etc.) i dont want to sound like i'm selling this to you, but it's a great app. maybe the 1 app i install over every rom.

search for a program called pockettoolman its freeware.
yeah freeware
Definately looking for a freeware to do this, not really wanting to pay for an icon on the today screen. I found this cab but can't get it to work looks like what I want but it don't work
HELP needed any good coders...............
I have found a quick launcher on the web with 5 icons to launch apps. Is there any coders out there that can manipulate this for me to 3 icons, bluetooth toggle on/off, wifi toggle on/off, and phone toggle on/off, justified to the left side of the today screen, again I am using an att 8525 with the att rom. Any help would be appreciated. thank you all in advance.
cheers,
attached is the cab for the quick launcher.
I am beating this to death
I am sorry to keep on with this, this is the last CAB that i will upload I really hope someone can help me with building what I want but til then this little plugin will suffice. Please try and help me with what I described above in the other posts. thanks.
the plugin you want CommCEntric v1.11 (hell I want it if someone can make it into a today plugin for pocket pc) is an xml file. unfortunately you need some type of a homescreen to view it. I dislike the homescreen concept because they take up so much space, but I love the look of comcentric)
hopefully anyone technically inclined can make it into a cab that will make it viewable on a pocket pc screen (not just smartphone)

The easiest way to do this is to use cLaunch (http://pachome1.pacific.net.sg/~welic/claunch.html) which allows you put to icons onto your today screen. It's really configurable so you can just have a couple of icons, or your can have multliple tabs with many icons on. You need to play about with it to get it working how you want, but it'll do what you're looking for.
For the Bluetooth icon, here's a useful utility that toggles Bluetooth on and off without opening CommMgr. Copy it into Program Files on your phone and cLaunch should be able to see it so that you can have the bluetooth icon on your today screen.
An even simpler method is to stick BTSwitch in your Program Files and then map one of your soft buttons to it... No need to take up any screen real estate with pretty icons!!

Where exactly do I navigate to to put the BTSwitch so I can map it to a button already on my phone, what a brilliant idea! Thanks, I just don't know what to do with it. I have placed it in several locations and went to map the button but can't find the file....I am dumb or am I missing soemthing.
Thanks and Cheers!

Sorry, should have been more specific!
Put the BTSwitch.exe file into Windows/Start Menu/Programs. You can then use the standard Settings > Buttons method to map one of the hardware buttons to the BTSwitch programme.
You can also map one of the soft buttons at the bottom of the screen, but will need a separate utility to do that... (eg Schap's Advanced Config : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=317070)
Also, have a look at these threads for other ways of changing your soft keys:

There is no manual, but play with it and you will figure it out...
Good luck.

sliding panels customization help - please?

Is there a way in WM6.1 sliding panels to have a different panel highlighted by default?
Right now it is setup to use the topmost panel as the clock panel by default, where it shows the expanded panel.
Is there a way to put the collapsed panel "message center" above that? This way the clock is still the highlighted panel, but the message center notifications (in collapsed form) sit on top?
Can I do this through the home.cpr or would I have to dig deeper?
Have a look here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=397334
Nex tiem please use the search button
not to be disrespectful (considering I have found TONS of help here, thanks everyone!),
but I have searched. And I've read this thread. I don't find what I need.
This shows how to dock the main panel. WHich is nice, but it doesn't tell me how to make the second panel as the primary highlighted panel. When you put the phone in its default mode, it uses the top panel as the main panel.
I'd like to use the 2nd panel as the default, and have collapsed panels on top and on bottom of it. Much like the style (I think) of the WinMo 6.5 look. I don't mean simply re-ordering of the panels.
Is that possible with 6.1?
i get what your saying still have the clock as the default panel so when you hit the end key it still takes you back to the clock panel but just have the message center above it. so it looks something like this.

Yes. Exactly.
Is that possible with WM6.1? Is it configurable through the cpr file?
honestly i don't know all i did was rearranged it with chome config to get a visual but that's not what you want hopefully someone can figure it out cause that would be cool.

just use the chome config to move the message center to be above the clock, save settings and you're done, that's what I did to move the titanium weather above my clock
on 6.1 what you move above the clock panel is now the new go to panel when you click the end key. i'd say bit the bullet and flash ookba's 6.5 roms at least that way you'll get the reaction from your phone that your wanting.
I guess its not possible on 6.1, then. I'm not on an HTC, I'm actually on a Samsung JACK. I don't know if there are 6.5 ROM's out for this phone. However, supposedly we'll get official 6.5 upgrade when it comes out. I'll just wait till then. I'll keep playing with 6.1 and seeing how far I can go with it before 6.5 hits.

Brilliant! Many thanks. It is beyond me why ATT disabled this.
Uh oh, not so brilliant. Now my notification SOUNDS continue past the first notice and chime every 20 seconds or so! Do you have the original registry settings? (Yes, I failed to note them.) I'm going to have to roll this one back.
You are right hopper13
I have updated accordingly to let you select time of flash and to DE-select the repeat box...
It's working a-ok for me now!

Hi:
Thanks for the great post. So far seems to be working perfectly. I only changed the setting for SMS (using the original, pre-edited settings you posted), since I got a little scared by the previous post, but I will change the rest after testing a bit.
So far, looks great though.
Thanks again!
EDIT:
After testing some, I found the same problem Hopper mentioned before. This only happens when phone is asleep. If phone is awake it works properly. I will try the new settings.
Ahhh, much better! My entire office thanks you! lol
New settings working perfectly
Thanks so much for this, I have been looking for a long time for this fix. I even tried NueLED, which did nothing but mess my phone up to the point of requiring a hard reset.
Thanks again!!
PS:
One strange observation; If the TF3D threaded messaging is left open (whether phone is awake or asleep), the LED does not flash on incoming message. Not a big deal though, since I rarely leave it open.
One question, will this also work for reminders?
Thanks again!!

It probably could work for reminders but HTC is controlling the reminders and there is a specific .dll that you need to make a copy of and rename if you want to modify snooze times. I saw a thread about it, but am in class right now so do some searching! I will too if I find time!

Hi:
I actually do know the post you are talking about regarding snooze time (which would be so awesome if it could be changed), but apparently any reg changes seem to return it to the previous WM notifications. But, that is actually not what I meant when I asked about reminders.
What I meant was, will the type of change you posted for sms etc also work to enable the LED to continue to flash when an alarm/notification etc go off? That option is currently greyed out like the others were.
Thanks again!!
Anybody willing to make a cab for these registry changes? It would top off this thread just right!
Thanks
I have applied the changes below (select hex and input "40000019"), but the constant audible alerts continue. :-(

How many notification LED lights on Tilt2 (ATT)
Hi,
Sorry for a stupid question: how many notification LEDs are there on the Tilt2?
My old HTC Hermes (ATT 8525) has TWO LEDs (one each on BOTH sides of the earphone). The one on the left is to indicate charging etc. and the one on the right is to indicate Event Notification.
I did the fix as mentioned in this thread, but it looks to me that my new Tilt2 only has ONE LED light on the LEFT of the earphone. There appears to be a "light tunnel" on the right of the earphone as well, but I have never seen it light up.
I am still trying to figure out the behavior of the Tilt2 notification light. It looks to me that it only uses the left LED. When it is being charged, it shows yellow steady light. When it is fully charged, it shows green steady light. Looks like it blinks in green when there is event notification (but I am not sure for how long and how consistent yet). Does this match to your Tilt2? How about TP2 on other carriers? Did I get a defective one (i.e. only one function notification LED)?
Thanks
decimal 31 is 1F in hex, and hex 40000019 is 1073741849 in decimal for those who cant choose.
this worked on everything but 15F11F90 which is reminders. anybody know how to fix this?

To my knowledge, the Tilt 2 only has 1 LED. The "light tunnel" you talk about is actually the sensor to determine the amount of ambient light, and does NOT light up.

I have applied the changes below (select hex and input "40000019"), but the constant audible alerts continue. :-(

Go and DESELECT the "Repeat" checkbox under Settings, Sounds & Notifications.
Yeah. Thanks for clarifying the LED count.
It appears to me that with the registry fix, the one and only LED will NOT provide notification feature when the phone is being charged. It only shows the solid yellow (charging) and solid green (fully charged) conditions and will override any blinking event notification.
It only provide notification function when the phone is NOT connected.
Anyone notice the same thing?
