After upgrading to WM6.5, when phone goes to sleep mode, wifi turns off normally but after waking up, wifi is still turned off. It should start automatically. And I haven't find how to solve.
Does anyone know how to set it up? In communication manager, wifi is turned on, so I have to turned it off and on to start it. I tried searching in registry, but nothing about it.
I have exactly the same issue with the official 6.5 ROM. It's a pain everytime the device times out and goes into sleep mode.
Yes I have this problem too.
DosnĀ“t anyone here have a workaround to fix this problem?
it's normal behaviour - htc made it so wifi is set to automatically self-activate when access to the internet is attempted by an app

...but the problem is that it doesn't self-activate. If I'm using VNC, the connection is lost and I have to manually go into the connection manager and give it a push before it will re-connect.

Yes, but it doesn't work in all applications. For example, when some app uses only wifi for home use, it stays turned off. Some applications where it works display connection error before wifi is activated.
The only suggestion of a fix I've seen is to try a custom WM 6.5 ROM. I've not yet seen any registry fixes, although 'yet' is very much the operative word here.
Actually there are several registry fixes listed here. Try searching for 'wifi'.
The problem is that none of them work, either for me or others that have responded. I have tried all suggestions without success.
I have a Tilt2 but I think this is affecting all TP2 WM6.5 users. Is anyone getting good results?
What happens to me is when wifi is on the 3g icon is displayed. When the internet is accessed (either in a brower or the TF3D weather panel) the icon trys to change to a wifi symbol but then seems to fail and reverts to 3g. If I go to settings and turn wifi off then on the wifi icon displays and the internet can be accessed through wifi. If I let the phone go into sleep mode then it shows 3g upon waking.

Hello.
I just got an O2 XDA IIs for Christmas. Great bit of kit, but there is one annoyance I'm having at the moment which maybe someone can shed some light on.
When I turn the device on I connect to my Wifi network and the net connection is working fine, but if I leave it for more than a few minutes without using the connection then it seems to lose connectivity. Browsing to a page in PocketIE produces a "This page cannot be found" error. The only solution is to disable/enable the wifi connection or turn off/on the device to get the connection back.
I should mention that the device has been upgraded to the latest UK O2 rom 1.40. and that power saving settings for WiFi is set to the minimum.
Does anyone have any hints to stop this happening?
Thanks, David.
Although I think the powersaving setting isn't related, try setting to to Medium. I think I used to do this when I first got my BA.
Other than that, are you leaving your BA device completely? It could be entering sleep mode? Do you have to set your network (Start -> Settings -> Connections -> Connections -> Advanced -> Select network) when you turn on the Wifi? If yes, then set it again while it is off.
And could it be your Wifi access point dropping idle connections? Is it new? first try? or you've been using it from before?
Apart from all that, I'd suggest that you switch to i-mate 1.40 ROM or T-Mobile 1.42. Customize the device as you wish. Many people don't like the O2 customizations since they slow down the PPC.
Hello all.
Here are all of the known problems that I am having. with WM6 2.01.
(1) Icons on top (connection bubble) never change with the exception of ActiveSync. 3G icon constantly stays on even if connected through WiFi. Shutting phone off still shows Cingular bars as if connected. (Known issue)
(2) Soft button configuration changes do not stick. If I change the programs associated with them, it does nothing.
Also, today screen shows Calendar and ActiveSync as soft key programs, although programs are actually Calendar and Contacts. (Its all jacked up!)
(3) I cannot connect to the internet with my celluar service. It is as if there are no settings installed. The bottom of IE says "Connecting ... 0 KB." Then I get a message saying "Cannot connect with current connection settings. To change your settings, tap Settings."
I have tried turning on/off, soft reset, etc., but have had no luck
---I have searched the board for an answer to #3, and I have found many people who have similar problems (does not work after 30 min, soft reset will fix), but I do not remember seeing anyone whose settings have completely dropped.
Can anybody shed any light into any of these 3 problems? I really do not use Bluetooth, so I haven't tried anything with it yet. But all other problems I have had, I have been able to fix by myself.
Thanks,
Kangle

Did you put your connection settings back in after you upgraded to WM6??
No, but I didnt save them.
My Wi-Fi is working fine, but I had to config those. On other updates I had done prior, my 3G connection was fine without having to setup settings.
If you have not already done this, you have to go under connections and set up your providers settings. To enter proper settings go to Start/Settings/Connections Add a new modem connection. Enter any name you want for the NAME ( example "Cingular ISP") and make sure that under "select a modem" tab, "Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G) is sellected. Click next access point name can be what ever you want to call the provider connection (Example "wap.cingular" or "isp.cingular"). And the rest I can not help you with untill we know who your provider is. I am sure if you let us know what provider you have, some one here can post the settings you need to have.
Hope this helps or at least gets you pointed in the right direction.
Awesome. Thanks for the help.
I am to the point where I need to enter user name, password, and domain. I wonder if I am going to need to call Cingular to find out some of that info (password).
Can anybody help me out with those settings?
Thanks,
Kangle
see https://www.cingular.com/support/deviceConfig.do?content=KB71396.html
but, if you had used the "SEARCH" button you would already have found this...
Go to https://www.cingular.com/support/deviceConfig.do?content=KB71396.html for the settings.
Now I have a quick question that I need to have cleared up. When I connect onlince with my CIngular 8525 it always connects via GPRS/EDGE and not 3G. I do not see a 3G icon come up. Is this becasue there is no coverage at my home? Or did I mess up something?
I am using:
LVSW WM6 RUU_Hermes_WWE_3.30.0.1 [FIXED]
Hard SPLv7
I used the cingular setting cab found from the WIKI
I am using radio 1.40.30.00
Band setting under phone are set to auto

I've stumbled on a strange issue.
If I switch the Desire to the Airplan mode when the Data connection is off (I use the appropriate HTC Data connection widget to do this), when I switch back to Airplan mode off, the phone is no more able to restore the data connection.
The only workaround found is to restart the phone.
Has anyone got the same experience?
Two questions.
1. When you say you switched off data connection, are you talking about syncing, wifi, mobile network, ... etc?
2. Why do you want to switch off data connection and turn on Airplane Mode? Doesn't Airplane Mode cater for shutting down all wireless?
1. I'm talking only about the "Data connection" option on "Wireless and networks" menu, that is switchable via a special HTC widget. Switching this option off, the phone is no more able to access to the GPRS provider. I often keep this option off to save battery life. I turn Data connection on, if I need to sync and access to Internet.
2. This is not the matter, just it happens. Eg. When I go to sleep, I turn the Airplane mode on, doesn't matter if the Data connection is on or off (it is possible that it is on) in order to avoid any disturbs (calls, sms, etc.).
I just wonder if this issue is a true bug of the phone:
1. Switch off Data connection
2. Switch on Airplane mode
3. Switch off Airlplane mode
4. Try to activate Data connection (for me it seems it's not possible without a reboot)
Had a similar problem which I wrote to HTC about: after the phone has been data connected via wifi and I leave the wifi network it often will not connect to data via mobile network (GPRS/3G), giving the message "connection failed" if I try to manually connect in the "mobile networks" section of the "wireless & networks" settings page.
It seems to have fixed itself now, and I think it's because I've since ticked the option to "enable always-on mobile data", which I had turned off to save battery. Give it a try.

Thanks yurikg, but on my phone the "enable always-on mobile data" option is checked, anche there is no mobile network connection problem coming back from a Wifi connection.
The problem I shown is probably caused coming back from Airplane mode.
The other possibility is Juicedefender which apparently is known to cause problems recovering a mobile data connection (recent update may have fixed this):

I've not juicedefender on my Desire...
I've in plan to do some other tests...
I have a problem with my Desire reconnecting to a mobile data connection too, but not when I come out of 'plane mode, its when I leave a Wifi covered area. It could be the same problem, triggered by anything that disables and then reactivates the data connection?
I have no solution yet, and I have contacted HTC support about it (still no reply). There is some discussion here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=656192
I seem to be having this problem too when coming off WiFi connection, unfortunately restarting the phone has not righted the issue...
I'm also having this problem with the connections. Fine on the wifi at work and at home but not switching over to the mobile network. Apart from that the phone seems awesome! Soooooo much better and more fun than the HD2.
OK, my phone appears to have no network connection whatsoever in fact...
Have the same problem as well. Coming from Wifi and to mobile network only - I do not get any data coverage. This is for the Desire and I had the same problem with Legend.
I hope this will be worked out ASAP.
Well, my problems all sorted. Turns out I had to manually input the APN for internet, took me by surprise since no phone I've owned since 2006 has needed that...
Just had to put in the settings manually too. Seems there is an issue with some of them. Would put a link here but as i'm a newbie not allowed Just google vodafone apn settings for htc desire and hey presto
Same problem here, my Hero had it too. I found it did work when you switch to gsm only and back to 3g/gsm... Would love to hear good solutions.
Im also having the same problem.
If i try switching my connection from wifi to mobile data, my mobile data connection fails to work. A power cycle fixes the issue but if i try switching connections again, the problem returns.
Can I suggest to anyone still having problems getting their phone to switch to mobile data when leaving Wifi to view the following bug report on Google Code and to star it to help raise the priority with Google:

Hi Guys,
Had my Desire a week now and loving it, but have a small by very frustrating problem. Sometimes and I have yet been able to reproduce this consistantly, the conneciton swaps to data from Wi-Fi while asleep, when I wake it up the phone works fine and uses the data connection but wont re-connect to the wireless.
In settings it list no avalable wireless networks, if I turn the wireless on and off it says its connecting to my network for a second and then gives up and says not in range, there are 5 other networks that should be in range and it list none of them. I have tried an app from the market that scans wireless and it has the same problem nothing is listed as seen. If I set airplane mode on and off the wireless jumps back into life lists all networks and connects back to mine. This has happened twice at home (uses WPA/PSK) and once at work (uses WEP).
As I said I cant reproduce this all the time and its fine to use the data connection but dont know why I have to airplane mode in order to get it back, do you guys think its a hardware or software problem am I rebooting the wireless hardware when I toggle airplane mode but not when I turn just wireless on/off? Should I try factory reset or send it back for repair? Has anyone else ever seen this?
Edit:- Sleep policy is Never.
Thanks for any advice.
Dan.
BTW- Stock T-Mobile ROM, not rooted.
Try a factory reset first and see how it goes from there
Hi All,
I am still lumbering on with an old HTC Desire running CM 7.07282011-Nightly and have had no real issues up until a couple of days ago.
Whilst in France (not that that make a lot of difference) the Wi-Fi access stopped working and the phone stopped being able to see any Wi-Fi networks. Basically, it switches itself off after around 30 seconds and cannot pick up any networks. In addiiton, the WiFi MAC address shows as unavailable although teathering via a WiFi hotspot works fine. I was switch between teather and normal Wi-Fi when the problem occurred.
If I go into Settings --> Wireless and Networks -->WiFi setting, then switch on the Wi-Fi, I get the "Turning on" message but then a Sorry warning saying "Application Settings (in process com.andriod.settings is not responding" and I can either "force a close" or "wait". If I wait, the Wi-Fi will simply switches itself off after about 30 seconds.
I did read in another post that this might be to do with the Wi-Fi sleep status but I tried all 3 options (from the menu in the Wi-Fi setting page) but that didn't do anything.
The issue appears to be that that phone has lost the Wi-Fi adaptors MAC address (says unavailable). However, I can still use Wireless Tethering and connect to to the phones WiFi hotspot. I think something has go screwy with the Wi-Fi tethering and Wi-Fi access (as I was switching between both when on my travels), but I need some help in trying to fix it.
Any Help Welcome
Chris
I tried updating to cm-7-20130301-NIGHTLY-bravo (whuch was the last release version), but still no joy.
Any help welcome
Well, after trying pretty much everything, I had to run a factory reset on the phone. Finally, my Wi-Fi is working again. Of course I now have the ball aching job of setting the phone up and re-installing all my apps again. Google restore is pretty rubbish
Looks like there must have been a config setting that got screwed somewhere. I did take a backup of the ROM and if anyone knows where this might be resolved, I wouldn't mind restoring.
