inbox keeps poping up after unlock? - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

i upgraded to 6.5 a few days ago - had the TP2 for a couple days than... now the device keeps opening the message-inbox after i unlock it (s2u2)! i can't remember that it did it with 6.1!
is there a tweak? am i doing something wrong? i just want to understand that lil thingy!

You can't solve that. Its a "feature" Microsoft introduced in 6.5.
Memory management is more aggressive in 6.5. Outlook is fighting for priority on environments with little ram available. Sometimes it loads the inbox, sometimes just the bottom and the top bars. For me that's so annoying that i downgraded to 6.1. Anyway, it is also known that s2u2 causes this "feature" to show up more.
Good luck.
I wish i bought the HD2 because it has more ram and that problem does not occur.

Mmmm.. i don't have this problem, when I unlock my phone, its show the home tab.. not the inbox ^o)
I'm not on WM6.5 but WM6.5.1. Perhaps should you try it.. ?

Inobx popup
this has been noted as a fix in this forum already. In task manager, set your email client to exclusive and this will stop it from popping up randomly, as you are granting it use of the required memory all the time, so the popup ceases.
I posted fix for this already earlier.
Procedure:
Open your email, and without closing it, open your settings menu and navigate to task manager. Press and hold to select the email client, (tmail.exe) and set it to exclusive and the problem will go away.

thanks mate... will try!
and thanks for the repost...

Official TMO WM6 Problems

Just thought I would start a thread for problems/annoyances people have noticed with the upgrade to WM6 (RUU_Excalibur_TMO_US_1.22.531.4_4.1.13.34_02.79.90_Ship.exe)
Here is a start for me:
- The memory leak problem is just as bad as the beta I installed over a month ago.
- The homescreen reverts back to the TMobile Default Blue on a soft reset (you must rename to fix)
- The registry hack to disable the beep when you initiate a call doesn't seem to work (didn't work for me in the beta either)
Not sure what you mean by 'memory leak', but I found deleting the Voice Command shortcut from the startup folder frees up a lot of memory. Personally, I find the number 1 feature of Voice Command to be frustration, so I don't need it loading at bootup.

Try renaming the tmobile default blue homescreen xml to something else, or delete it outright. Im pretty sure thats the homescreen that defaults back when you restart the phone. I would like to state for the record that I have octrotalk installed, and have customized my homescreen with octrotalk. It essentially creates a new homescreen with all the plugins from the current and adds octrotalk to the new one, setting it. When I restart my phone it always comes up as my octrotalk screen, regardless of how the restart was done (battery removal, smarttoolkit restart, whatever.) Additionally I don't have any memory leak issues. I run quite a few apps at a time, word, excel, IE, octrotalk, outlook, a few games in and out, occasionally zatelnet, and the filemanager. I also generally close all apps Im not using anymore, but when I close all the apps I opened to run, I usually recapture around 12megs free ram. When I start up from fresh boot, Im at just under 15 megs. Atfter closing apps in the default wm5 tmobile rom, I would usually end up with 9-10 free megs.
Unless someone else can confirm that the official rom does this same stuff, I feel like you may not have upgraded your rom.
I'm having problems with mail since upgrading to WM6. I can only reveive my .mac mail, I can't send out. I've tried everything to fix it, changed the ports on the smtp setup on the Dash and still can't send out mail. This is so frustrating! I didn't have this problem in the WM6 Beta or WM5.
I'm getting absolutely no email on my wife's dash after this new ROM. I try to set up the email and at first I get a warning about Roaming (I'm not). And then it just refuses to connect to download her emails from our POP3 account.
It' so strange these email problems we're having. I am not having any problems with gmail, or aol for sending and receiving, only my .mac mail (I can only receive, not send email). I rely on this as it's my main email client. I never had any problems before the "official upgrade".
Are you all using the T-Zones plan with the jury-rigged proxy settings? That might explain it. They're moving towards T-Zones being available via the WAP browser and widdling away at other features being accessable without paying for different service levels...
im just so glad there is a forum for the dash/excalibur here instead of mixing it with the MDA like HowardForums.
Over there there is about 2million "official" threads thare are never official to begin with. lol
If I use T-Zones button and go through the wap browser and go to my email I can send and receive fine within the t-zones wap browser. The problem is with the messaging app itself that won't let me send out email with my .mac account. Even if I have the phone turned off and am using WiFi I still get "the message cannot be sent" errors.
What else can I remove from the running programs to free up memory?
I don't use the voice command either. I would like to use the live messenger but it takes up so much memory.
I wish I could just take memory off my memory card and use it as phone memory.. Or even have a option like pocket pcs do and use the program memory as system memory...
Grrr I hate havin a laggy phone, reminds me of XP on a 266mhz computer..

I use PowerControl+OMAP from http://mobile.surrealnetworks.com/DashApps.htm to overclock my phone. It overclocks the processor to 240mhz when its in use and throttles it down to 180mhz when its in standby.
There is another issue with Windows Media Player and streaming Video (e.g Orb, Videos from Windows Media Mobile, etc) where the screen rotates 90 degrees when you zoom the video to full screen.
It's been tracked on this tread:

What you describe is how T-Zones work -- if you pay more, you can do mail within the messaging app. If you pay $5.99, you can do mail via the WAP browser. Which service plan do you have?

It should have nothing to do with me having the T-Zones $5.99 plan I can send and receive with aol, and gmail with the plan, only receive with .mac, I can't even send out mail using WiFi. I was on the phone with T-Mobile today and they tried troubleshooting. They said that for some reason the smtp is getting blocked with my .mac account, they think I should call Apple. I even asked if it had anything to do with me being on the T-Zones plan, and the rep said no, it should work through WiFi since I'm not using T-Mobile's network.

The "Problem with the homescreen reverting back" is not a WM6 problem, it's a My Faves (My 5) feature. Basically, every time you turn your phone on, the My5 service detects whether you have MyFaves and changes your homescreen to the proper setting. The settings for this are saved in the registry.
The location is:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\My5\Homescreen
There are two values, On and Off. Just change those to your homescreen, or try removing them altogether (haven't tried that yet).
You could also try removing the My5MsgCenter.lnk from the startup folder, but I don't know if that's the one that reads from that registry key
ha, for some reason chaznet takes every opportunity to bash the 5.99 tzones plan. i have it now with wm6, i can go to every website, i can check my hotmail by going to www.hotmail.com, and the internet seems even faster than with wm5. so it still works, and it doest seem like its going away anytime soon

Help with sms inbox

I noticed that everytime i open and close the messaging sms inbox, it takes a little bit of time(about 2s) to open.
I heard that i can manage to make sms inbox always opeend in the background,(make it work in background like the vibration icon, mobile shell2,alarm, all running hidden in the background and up running since start-up)
ive been told this can be done using MemMaid v2.0, but didnt understand how.can anyone help?
Any suggestion or help isappreciated!!!
Im running Pays WM6.1, v3.05. Maybe Pay can give me a heads up.THX
What do you use to "really close" the applications? I use quickmenu but whatever you use there should be an option to "ignore" certain apps. This means that instead of closing, pressing the ok button will just minimize the program.
oh, i do use that, this shows in the task manager.I was asking if i could integrated in the background, in a way, IT WONT SHOW IN THE TASK MANAGER.this way,i dont close it by mistake by pressing CLOSE ALL. thx though for trying to help

Slugishness and inconveniences with Manilla 3D

The title is a bit of a provocation to attract people to the thread
To start with: animation, menus, etc... are quite fluid (Though less than on my M2D custom Rom on my Hermes, but that's not my point here, secreen def is much higher and it's 3D...)
My problem (that mya have I fix, at least I hope so) is quite specific:
In some menus accessing to data is VERY slow and I dont understand why
1. When accessing to a contact (So clicking from the lists of contats) it takes several seconds to have the contact details appear. This is VERY annoying. Does it come from my numer of contacts (900), I dont think so... It looks a bit like something is being downloaded, or some extra info put in memory... difficult to tell but anywya I would like to kow if you have the same problem
2. When accessing SMS from Manilla 3d... it takes ages to open the first SMS in the pile or to open "All messages". It's quite weird: if I swap through the task manager to the SMS application... it switches in an instant. If I have the SMS application already open and try to access it through the manila 3D...
(I have quite a lot of SMS, but less than emails, or which it is less slow)
I noticed some similar slowlyness in some otehr parts but just cant remeber where
Otherwise to bith about about Manilla 3D (that I do still really like... at least froma "look" point of view): too many important menus are missing compared to WM6.1 original menus. Like choose which folder you can activesync within your email folders, or save a phone number from a newly received SMS into an existing contact (Can only sve in a new one...). Etc, etc...
Anyway to chose which original WM6.1 menus are prompted / not prompted ?
To address your pts...
1. I think the lag has to do with the new "People-centric" contact card. It take a little time to gather all emails, calls, and messages with a particular person. You probably won't experience this lag if you use the default Windows Mobile contact app.
2. What I mentioned in 1 applies here too. So, I never click the messages directly in TF3D because this actually opens the contact card. I keep the messaging app opened at all times. Just click All Messages to quickly see the threaded conversation if you have to. If you use "Reply" from TF3D, the composing window will also open faster (if you have the messaging app opened already)
1. Agreed that's what I suspect... But I dont have the proof. Yes the default Windows Mobile App is much faster
There must be a workaround like starting to open what is immediately available for the contact while loading the rest in the bakground
Unfortunately this may be a litle too deep and needs a different code --> not fixable with some regedit
Hopefully we are wrong. The "people-centric" thing is on of the reason why I like the TP2 (Definitely not the only one) and if this means waiting 3 to 4 seconds to open a contact, HTC just ****ed up on it (It's not acceptable when you need to open several contacts)
2. Yes I use already only "All message" since clicking on the message takes ages to open
BUT even "All messages" is still very slow compared to open the messaging app (I do always keep the messaging app open)
All in all it's nice to offer good looking features, but if the price is such a sluggishness I think there is nothing to be proud of
Luckily HTC will improve this with time (But still, it's really annoying)

Haha, you must be exaggerating. Just to keep things sane around here, the time lag is about 1 second to open the unified communications contact card. This is compared to the approximately 0.5 seconds to open the contact details in the default WinMo contact app. If you try to open the SMS or Email section of the contact card, it does take about 2-3 seconds...

Not sure what you mean on this part. Doesn't clicking "All messages" in TF3D open the default messaging app?
Then I must have a problem with my device (or my ocntacts (I have nearly 1,000). I just tried one contact right now from the list of all contacts: 12 seconds (Yeah befoire I was just giving an estimate...). I tried anoterh one , 17 seconds... (Piture or no picture doesnt change anything)
These figures is rom opening a contact from the list of all contacts in TF3D
I guess you understand how annoyd I am... And cliking on "Back" to come back from the list of contacts to the main menu (WHer you see "Add favorites") takes 5 seconds
I really hope to find a solution...
For the last part, sorry my mistake it's when I click on the messages tab that it takes around 4 seconds to have the messages menu and I na click on the bottom left menu "All messages" (Then after it's quick)
I have a serious problem with my TF3D...

The very interesting thing is if I open the same contact by clicking at its name from let's say an email, it's nearly instantaneous (like half a second)
What's wrong with my phone ?? Anybody with the same issue ?
your insane amount of contacts are prolly slowing everything down.
a 1000 contacs is normal, i have more than 1500 on my TP2
its true that TF3D sometimes slow, i mean, those things sometimes happen also to me, but not always, only sometimes, maybe when the TP2 processess a lot or memory almost done for
1000 contacts is alot but this is a business device so that really shouldnt be a problem imho.
Though I doubt WM uses any kind of clever database method for storing them, not like SQL Server mobile is installed on the phone with Intel QuadCore, so I think some slowdown is to be expected mate tbh
Yes it's a professional device 1,000 contacts should not be an issue (Actually it's mostly friends, but let's say that for a geek I enjoy quite a crazy social life)
Anyway it was handled properly on my Hermes with Manilla 2D. I am very disapointed it is not the case with the TP2
Again the very strange thing is if I open the contact by clicking on name in my emails title, I get the contact file to open nearly immediately. If it's from the list of contacts... 10 seconds at least. This doenst make sense
and I hate the fact that you have to "slide" to accept/reject the call. I mean come on, it's cool and all that but it's not user friendly!
So many times my calls got missed because a friend didn't understand how to accept the call for me (it was too late whenever they read that "Slide to Answer/Ignore" text)

Ha! you don't necessary have to slide to "Answer the call". You can always just press the hardware Answer button (left answer call key) to answer it. That will solved your problem

disable replog appRunAfterTimeChange to stop ActiveSync

don't know why the tweaks that worked for my other phones is not working here.
I have WKTasks task manage tabbed to see what's running/easy switcing. Like all WM ppc, I see ActiveSync popup every minute, and I disable it. Using WKTasks to make it invisible is just like sweeping the dirt under the rug, i.e. useless, so with other phones, my solution has always been:
fdcsoft task manager3.1 disable replog appRunAfterTimeChange to stop MSActivSync from popping up.
However, the fdcsoft setting is having NO effect in my US TMO TP2. Is there another program I need to install to make these tweaks stick?
I asked the same question in another post re: can't disable aGPS. schaps's adv config 3.3 settings are not sticking either, so I'm missing something obvious here, I just can't find it.
look @ this > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4246210&postcount=217
i found no other way to disable repllog.exe(acitvesync)
greetz
^ Thanks, yes, that is a solution and I'd come across your post in my search, but didn't use it because of:
there are 3 repllog.exe in Notifications. Two of them are actually useful, like having ActiveSync wake up when usb/serial cable detected, or when manually pressed. The 3rd one "appRunAfterTimeChange" is the MSexchange one I can't disable, which was easy to do in my other devices, Herald/Kaiser/TP1. But with the TP2, the changes are not sticking, and the rom overwrites the changes as soon as the screen blanks.
I know I'm missing some kind of application unlocker or sdkcertificates to make the changes stick, and I don't remember doing anything else in my other phones.
The only way to prevent repllog from popping up again after every n min, is to create a fake activesync connection and set both the schedule (peak and offpeak) to manual. This is on top of removing the time changed notification. I did that and I dun have the repllog popping up all the time. And that bugger drains quite a fair bit of battery.
Thanks all, unlike the other devices, I had to do ALL 3 THINGS to stop ActiveSync from popping up on the TP2:
1. disable repllog.exe appRunAfterTimeChange notification using fdcsoft task manager3.1
2. create a fake ActiveSync server
3. "uncheck" the automatic time zone under Phone Settings.
here's the solution from the Kaiser.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=459851&page=2
\End Thread
What's wrong with activesync popping up? I never had it pop up while using the phone for no reason only when I connect it to the computer when I need to use it.

Phone keeps hanging with 'Messaging' menu appearing

Hi All,
I'm a long time lurker and first poster - just want to say initially thanks for all the helpful hints, tips, software etc I've picked up from the forum.
However, I've recently got a problem that I can't seem to crack and wondered if anyone has any ideas. I've tried searching but to no avail.
Randomly (and often when browsing) 'Messaging' appears on the top bar (with 'Delete' and 'Menu' on the softkey bar (as if it had suddenly shifted to an email page) but the main portion of the screen remains frozen with whatever was going on before (i.e. the webpage, today screen or whatever). It'll happen a few times then Opera crashes, but it also happens with the phone on standby (not sure if Opera was still running).
If I hit 'Menu' then 'Reply' it comes up with the latest message from my Hotmail account. I'm running Windows Live as a push account I think it may be that triggering it when it starts to sync. Perhaps some sort of problem with Opera and Windows Live when they're both running?
I've not got any serious mods installed and didn't have this problem until recently. I've got the latest versions of Opera, Windows Live and have recently reflashed the ROM in case that was the problem but no such luck.
I'm going to disable the push email and see if it still happens then try uninstalling things to see if that stops it but any suggestions gratefully received if you've had a similar problem and have managed to solve it.
Brief spec:
WinMo 6.5 (latest official HTC ROM)
UK O2 network
Opera Mobile 10 Beta 2u (Ninja Duck enhanced, but it happened with the Opera official version too)
1% Battery mod
FInixNOverBatteryIconsOnly battery icon mod
sdkcerts for above
SmartPhone tracker (disabled - going to uninstall to check)
ive got the same issue with my stock att branded tilt2
hope someone knows whats causing this...
I'm now thinking it may be a memory shortage issue - last time it did it I checked on task manager and it said memory usage was 95%
It's only about 59% when I reboot so I can only assume that Opera or something is using an inordinate amount of system memory. No idea if that's it, though
HTC Imagio Too
Same problem with my HTC Imagio. Messaging just pops up randomly and for no reason. I believe, too, that it has something to do with the Hotmail push email, but it has not always done this, which is the real mystery.
I'm having the same thing happen. But when I hit the reply button, it just brings up a blank email with my address in the From line. I haven't noticed any increase in RAM though. To me, it's nothing more than a nuisance.
Same here, tmobile stock rom wm6.5.
But when I touch the center area the message tool bar goes away and I resumewhatever I was doing just fine, so I normally ignore this.
May have something to do with checking email. I don't have push (push for gmail still not good IMHO), but the phone is checking my two gmail accounts every 15 minutes.
I have this problem too, and can't stand it. Have push Hotmail via Windows Live, Sync "as items arrive" from 7am to 11pm.
I've also downloaded the HTC hotfix for SMS freezing (in case this is related somehow).
I searched for it and can't believe this hasn't been solved yet.
Same here.
I have had this problem since day one, about 5 months ago on my Tilt2. Grrr.
Same issue here.
I also have this issue.
I have observed this occur with 65% memory usage.
I can also confirm this occurs with POP3 email. I have 2 POP3 accounts and no push accounts.
It does not seem connection related, happens when connected via EDGE, 3G, & Wifi.
I am running an NRG wm6.5 ROM.
same problem here. was hoping to find a fix on here.
Same here, Verizon TP2 when I hit the messaging image, it just goes away. Using stock WinMo 6.5 rom with about 8 apps from OpenMkt. Device is pretty stable and other than above and very slow opening mail sometimes.
everyone has thais problem and no replies :-( I also have this problem
my phone freezes a lot when opening a new txt. I downloaded the hotfix sms fix from htc and when i go to install it it just says the hotfix is not compatible
I have a problem with mine regarding opening TXT messages in windows messaging app, not in the HTC txt app. When I close it, it just freezes then I have to hit the side button to reset....Anyone have a fix for this? Im running TMOUS windows 6.5
Same problem here. Although mine happens on both emails (pop and windows live) and text. Whenever I close any of them the messaging will pop up 5-30 seconds later.
Hopefully if we get enough people with the same problem someone will eventually find a solution!
EDIT: I'm running stock Verizon ROM with a couple minor mods (nothing that screws with messaging, other than the disable SMS sent popup)
Me 2
I too have the same issue with stock tmo 6.5 rom. I never noticed it with energy roms. I wonder if maybe he knows what could be causing this issue? Just an idea.
