Hey guys,
I have noticed that my email notification sound cuts off the last second or so when the phone is in standby. Does anyone know what is causing this or how I can fix it? It is really annoying.
Thanks
I now know this isn't just me. A friend with the same device also has this problem. It is very irritating. Surely we aren't the only two?
Know what's more irritating? Spontaneous no-ring tone (silent) incoming phone calls. That's some bull****.

Ouch, that sounds terrible. I haven't experienced that yet, luckily. I only experience the broken up email sound when in standby. It doesn't occur when the phone is charging, however. So annoying.
are you using a custom sound for e-mail like an mp3 file and is it on your sd card?

No. Just one of the built in alert sounds. To be exact i am using the "Alert-Guitar2" notification sound which is on the device itself, not sd card. I have also noticed that when I bring the phone out of standby, the missing few seconds of the alert are then heard.

Today, I did my cardio but had to take a call. During the conversation, however, the earspeaker started to pop a few times and then I did not hear anything anymore. I must say that I was sweating heavily and the call lasted about 20 min.
The phone works as usual except I do not have any sound when playing media (mp3, youtube). Ringtone for calls, ringtone selection and sms work (ring), whattsapp doesn't. Re-installing whattsapp and flashing the new aosp build did not help here.
Should a new earspeaker do the trick or is there more possibly broken hardware?
I was talking about the built-in speaker, not about some headphones.

Try taking the battery out and sticking it in rice. It probably won't help, but at this point it might be worth a try.
I think you have the exactly same issue as mine =[

I know this is an old thread, but I had the exact same thing happen to me today. I was working outside, and was sweating while I was talking on the phone. All of the sudden, I heard a slight pop, then nothing. My earpiece will not play any sound at all. I have to use speakerphone when I am talking on the phone.
Did you ever find a solution to this? I'm thinking that I might need to replace the speaker.
Thanks
Now i'm having this really weird popping or crackling sound all throuhout using the phone (Not only though music and videos), if i unlock the phone, i hear the unlock sound then a pop, if i get a notification sound, i get a weird pop after it, sometimes when i type, and if i leave the phone on the desk and get a notification sound and vibration i hear it then some random pops or crackles afterwards ... anyone else suffering from that problem? and please help.
I also have this problem on most fresh installs of CM roms

I have long suffered the same issue that the OP is talking about. It is a seemingly random pop/crackle noise that happens AFTER touching the screen or after a vibration. It is very strange, almost like static buildup that is then played through the speaker. It doesn't matter if haptic feedback is on or off, or if the phone volumes are turned off. It also doesn't happen every time, or can happen multiple times in a row.
Someone mentioned at one time that it might be NFC related, but when having the problem I can toggle the NFC on and off and it doesn't fix it.
However, it has magically disappeared over time on certain roms, and I have managed to keep the same "data" backup that I reflash after a fresh rom install. A fresh install of nearly any CM-based rom has the problem. It leads me to believe that some setting stored in the data partition causes/fixes the problem. I would really like to figure out what it is so that I can actually do a fresh install without carrying over junk files from ancient rom installs. Does anybody have any ideas?

The crackling and pop sound is when you hear the DAC being muted after its not in use, This is totally normal, to reduce this effect try disabling any equalizers you may have or anything else that would modify sound in any way.
curious to see if anyone has heard any sound coming from their Moto 360? I ask b/c I have not heard anything aside from the vibration when receiving a text/e-mail, and I see a "mute" option when pulling down.
thanks!

Good question, maybe the mute is for when you have bluetooth headset or to mute notifications?

It has no speaker, so it makes no sound. The mute option keeps notifications from showing on your watch screen.

As above. It has no speaker. Muting hides the cards you see on your watch so you always see the clock face unless you tap or swipe up.
thanks for the responses all - I guess if I wanted to mute the cards, then I can do so via the app on my phone. just thought that if you show a picture of a bell, that usually means a sound of some sort.
i guess it's interesting that the watch has a mic, but no speaker.

Well it vibrates, so you dont need a speaker, and since it's tied to your phone your phone could always make the sound. You wouldnt want them both beeping would you?
Well, I don't keep my phone on me at all times. I often times leave outside my bedroom.

i do. especially when using timer/alarms. would be nice if they included a basic timex-style beep/bloop for stuff.

right - plus it's not unprecedented to have watches emit sound.
Are all these phones quite or is it just mine? Alarms are quiet, can barely hear ringtones and notifications. Vibration is weak as well, which causes me to miss calls while in pocket. Don't get me wrong, I love this phone. But my HTC ,10 had loud ringtones and mortifications.

Might try that.
Agreed, the external speaker volume is dismal at best. I could not even hear the phone ear piece until I flashed Elemental X which allows for ear piece gain... However no gain for external speakers yet.
i have recently had this problem as well. get it replaced. theyll send you a new one overnight if you got one through verizon. mines would be loud initially but after a while it was quite.
My problem is that there is one volume slider for both the ringtone and notification sounds. This is quite limiting (I feel like this was not linked in earlier versions so either they are taking features away or are simplifying things).
Does anyone have any magic tools to un-link these volumes so I can make my ringtone max and notification volume at 50%?

No, that is how stock android is. Other devices, like a Samsung may seperate them. But google leaves them linked by default.
As far as changing that... I really don't know. I leave my phone on vibrate all the time because I have a smart watch that vibrates on my wrists and I can check messages without even taking phone out of pocket.

Yes. I had an issue where if you continuously press the home button it would start out as a decent volume and then decrease. But when any type of audio would play it was super low.

I found a solution to this problem... Volume Butler! It's great, and does exactly what I need it to do (without even buying the "pro" version).

My sounds were all too low for me, i downloaded some iPhone MSG / alarm sounds as well as a Air horn sound and all those sound that i downloaded are much much louder then the default sounds
for me it seems that its something with the software because the speaker is very loud but, for example i download a song, listen to it and it plays very loud but if i set it as ringtone its very low when my phone rings. i was searching in the settings if there is anything to disable but cant find anything
Vibration power on this phone sucks.
I've had the 32gb and 128gb and they were both the same.
I setup the Moto X Pure 2015 for a friend last week.
I used it a half-day to ensure all was working fine.
And realized how much I really miss a proper vibration out of a phone.
Can't stand missing calls in loud places because I didn't notice the phone vibrate in my pocket.
As for ringtones - there are louder ones out there.
I attached a couple of loud ones in the zip.
I setup a Tasker profile to change to one or the other when I'm at parties or other loud places.

Thank you for posting them. The standard Pixel XL ringtones wouldn't wake up a light sleeper on the loudest setting, and most are tunes are kind of dreamy and sleepy. Its been so annoying finding replacement sounds, I installed Alarmy just to get louder sounds and of course soon after my network log starts spiking like crazy, with Alarmy opening multiple connections to facebook/google/etc sending off my data. Out of the entire Pixel XL forum your post was the only one I could find with links to sounds to download that I can load into the standard clock.
Many many tanks, now can get rid of another 3rd party crapware that slurps data like crazy.
I as well as many other previous Nexus 6p owners have been noticing that ringtones / notifications only come out of the bottom speaker of the Pixel 2 XL. The irony of this is that any app besides the "Settings" app has all sound coming out of both speakers. Is there a program / workaround anyone knows of? I don't care if I have to root my phone; I want to use my dual front facing speakers!
Thanks,
~Mike
Too bad this apparently is not considered a bug, its just how its suposed to work. In my opinion its pretty dumb not to allow both speakers on incoming calls/notifications from Google.
I'm getting sounds out of both speakers when my phone rings. Not sure if this happened before I updated to 8.1, but I don't think so. Tested it with more than one ringtone, stock and custom. Now, my problem is the screen won't come on when the phone rings. I hope an update to the phone app fixes this soon.
Yes my also only the bottom one firing. Any solution?
Bumping this up, any solution?
Can someone please make a mod to enable dual speakers for ringtones?
Currently.. i am studying about sound mod on pixel 2 oreo 8.1.
My main objective is to fix the crackling issue.. btw.. i will look into this one too

I use a Tasker profile to get around this issue. Basically, I monitor the status of calls, and when the phone is ringing, I play my ringtone as media. Then as soon as the call is answered or ignored (offhook or idle), the exit task stops the media. I just set my actual ringtone in settings to "none". Other than that, it behaves exactly like a ringtone should. My task also matches the media volume to the ringtone volume while ringing, then restores the previous media volume setting. That way, if your phone is on vibrate, it won't still ring out loud. I can do a detailed write up on how I did it if anyone needs it.

Like I said in other posts, sound does come out of both speakers with calls and notifications. When you're choosing a sound in settings, it does indeed only come out of the bottom speaker. I can't believe I'm the only one who has sounds coming out of both speakers when a call comes in. I've tested it with multiple sounds, too.

Confused with what you are saying. Are you saying that when you choose a ringtone in settings you no longer have it coming out of only the bottom speaker?

Yes. It only comes out of the bottom speaker when I'm picking the sound. When someone calls, I hear it from both speakers. I've tried this with both custom and system sounds.

Thanks a lot! I've only used profiles and tasks in Tasker before, but your project imported just fine. All I had to do was change your task's ringtone to mine and set my phone's ringtone to none. Now to wait for someone to call me.

ccoulterjg1 - please provide detailed instructions on how to get tasker profile to resolve the issue of the ring volume using the ring speaker configuration instead of the media speaker configuration, which should resolve the issue, as media volume is quite loud and ring volume is not (I need to be able to hear my phone ring when I am sleeping, and on-call).
