New to Windows Phone - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Hi all, as the title states, I'm new to the windows phone fam. I just found this place and it seems to be an awesome source for all kinds of things. I'm just a little overwhelmed with all the different things available. I want to do a few things with my phone (like different themes and apps) but have no idea how to even go about installing them on the phone. I tried to find somewhere that said how to add them but no luck. Is there a previous thread here that shows how to go about adding apps from this website onto the phone?
Also, I know that the tilt 2 comes with a built-in youtube viewer but I can't find it for the life of me. Does anyone know if ATT took it off the phone or am I just not looking in the right spots?
Thanks in advance, hope to learn a lot from everyone.

Welcome!
The best starting place is the 'read first' thread. It'll point you to the search feature (works very well) and the Wiki, where useful info a plenty can be found.
The link for youtube viewer is in the \Windows folder, just copy the link (it's a .lnk file) from there to somewhere in your \Windows\StartMenu\Programs folder.

Thanks for your help, got it to work just fine!

I'm going MAD!!!!

Hi everyone.. I'm going really mad!
I can't find cabs!!!
For days and days I was browsing theese forums and I've read a LOT of useful posts (along with useful cabs to change/add/fix something)
IE.. one for that damn 3g ico, one for wpa2, one for keyboard fix, the smsbackup, the dialer, the voice command and so on..
NOW I've flashed (again) a new os and I need all those fxxxxd cabs.. I can't find them (well..someone of them) with the "search" function!!!!
To MODS: Why don't we create a wiki page with the direct links to every useful cabs?? Or a sticky thread here with a list for every cab?

Why didn't you save the first time you banana head. Also you can create a wiki page too, don't need any moderators assistance.
Why don't you bookmark the threads or the posts when you found. Don't blame us cause you decided to flash. You found them once, use the search button to find them again
Some of the stuff is on the Extras wiki page so you might like to start there.

Banana head...buhwawa! Very correct.
People...save your cabs. on your SD and on your lappy or pc or mac or whatever you use. who knows when you'll need to handle up on some cab business.
Also don't complain...the wiki is there for everyone. You wanna see something on the wiki then wiki.

Why don't you click on the "attachement" icon on the sticky thread to check if there's any cabs you are looking for? As the others suggest, use the SEARCH option.
I have a few cabs in my sig.
It's True!
You can never get a cab when you need one.

the wiki can be edited by any member.. if you find something that is much needed then put it on the ftp (as long as it dont violate any of rules) and add it to the wiki with a link to it.
i also went ahead and made a hermes wiki page for carrier settings cabs.. Anyone feel free to edit this and add files
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_provider_cabs
Not more f'n stickies, there is already a larger list than on the main hermes sub, of crap I gotta scoll through every page, and Im sure Im not the only one who browses the forums mainly on their device.
Also, I got this idea a few years ago from someone when I first started messing with PPC's. When you find a cab that you will use again. Make sure you save it as "read only" that way is does not get deleted when you run it. I keep a folder on the storage card with a file labled cab's and back it up frequently. I must agree, It's sometimes difficult to find what I'm looking for when I do search. I love the fun of creating an interesting subject heading, but that does not help someone doing a search if the subject is inside jargon. Your subject heading will help no one down the line looking for the same info, even if you are pointed at the source for cab's in this thread.
If the guy doesnt even know how to save the damn cabs file on his computer or storage card, I'm wondering how did he manage to flash the phone to begin with.

I know how to download a file but no-one WANTS to save each "this could be useful someday" cab.. It is an UNUSEFUL THING and lead to confusion, requires maintenance (to always keep the latest version) and so on.
Everyone does backup his cab (if he uses, have used, or he's sure it will use them).
FTP each cab (and edit the wiki accordingly) IS a LONG operation to do now that could be avoided if MODS forbid to have post attachment.
Do you want to share a cab? OK.. put it in FTP, edit the wiki, and post here both links instead of attaching directly the file.
Hard Drive space is cheap and you should never count on someone else to make sure you will have the resources you want or need.
I have more Cab Files than I can count and don't plan to stop saving them.
Mods are here to moderate not rule over the users. This place is a community effort.
If you see a need then do something to fill it. You want a Wiki Page with useful Cab Files, start it and upload the cabs you do have as a beginning.
This discussion is going nowhere so I'm closing the thread.

How to get these.....

Alright I have loaded ROM's onto my phone but I am still pretty new to this, I am wondering if anyone can take the time to walk me through of how to get Home Screen's like these (the first one and the red one on PG1)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=378000
Thank you very much for any help you are willing to give.
P.S. what ever help I get I will be more then happy to give to other begginner's.
The big clock is called HTC Home and that's fairly easy to find, just make a simple search for it. The tray on the bottom looks like PHM Trays which you can get from PHM Tools.

Did you bother reading the thread or are you the type to look at pics and ask for help, right off the bat?
Actually I did take the time to read a lot of the post's but as I said in my first post I am pretty new to this stuff and a lot of the talk was quite confusing to me because of the short form's and such so program's and stuff like that.
Like I said before, I am just looking to see if some one has the time to help me, not looking for people to chirp about how new I am and such. Thank you.

Alright so I have read the first like 11 pages and no where in there have I found how to get those 2 Home Screen's running on my Dash?
Please help
As for the Red Carousel theme....go here.
Download the needed cabs in the bottom of his first post and read his install instructions.
As for the HTC home, if you READ where to get it from its in his first thread also...
- HTC Home
http://depositfiles.com/en/files/3306160
Download that cab.
Once you've downloaded the cabs...you transfer them to your phone using Active sync. Place them in your documents folder. Using your phone Resco Explorer program direct yourself to the My Documents folder and click on the cabs to install them.
If asked where to install them, pick Main memory (phone itself) not the memory card.
DO NOT UNZIP or UNRAR the CAB files.
After the cabs are installed. REBOOT.
Once rebooted, Click on start->settings->Home Screen->Home screen layout
Once there, choose which home screen...you'd like to have.
Done
Thank you for the help, I have one question though, I downloaded the courosel theme and unzipped it to a folder and then I copied to my from through My Computer (I'm not sure if that matter's?) but when I selected the Courosel theme in Home Screen, the text messages and voicemail stuff look's all messed up? Is that because I unzipped the file?
Another question came up....
I dled the LCD clock and unzipped it, copied the folder to my phone and then went to Resco Explorer and clicked the Setup.xml and it did a bunch of stuff, I thought it installed but then when I rebooted my phone nothing happened?
DO NOT UNZIP or UNRAR the CAB files.
Jesus man
the lcd plugin is a CAB
If you need help anymore this member (Gixxum) is the man to go to.
Alright thank you very much, I didn't realize that that was a cab file since I have never worked with a cab before.
I installed the cab. and got a message saying that I may need an older version of WM?
I then rebooted and the LCD clock was not there?
I couldnt edit again so I has to do another post, the problem I was having was just that I didn't go to the background image and change it to courosol.
thank you.

No matter how big or what colors we use people seriously have selective reading. lol
actually I read that a few times but I was not sure what a cab file was.
Funny how much you care about the mistakes I made instead of helping haha.
Thanks everyone.
alright I have one more question and I thought I would post it here instead of opening another thread. When I am using txt messaging and I sent a txt (I will use this as an example) at 8:01 PM and some one sends me a txt back in the same minute it will say that they replyed at 7:01 PM. It always says one hour earlier for replys? I have searched through options but I cannot seem to find where to change it?
Thank you ahead of time.
Are you sure your time is right? Go to settings --clock & alarm-- and scroll to where on earth you are. Do a reset try that.
I checked the times man and NOTHING! this is kind of brutal, it's not like it's a huge problem but it's just ******* frustrating, any ideas guys?
Whats the time difference on the clock?

Help, How do I make Custom Manila 2d Themes?

Let me start by saying that I have googled, and used the search box for XDA. I haven`t been able to find a clear guide, or even a hint on how to go about making a custom theme for manila 2d. The only things I can find are lots of link to themes others have made and other unless information. It`s like it`s everybody else`s big secret or something. I just want to be able to make my own theme that I actually like, and contribute to the Pocket PC community. I`m not exactly a noob when it comes to PPC`s , but I`m certainly no expert. I just want to learn how to do things myself, instead of waiting to see what others come come up with.
Enough with my sad plea though, if any one can help me out I`d appreciated it. I`m not asking for a 20 page detailed step by step guide or nothing just maybe a explaination of how the stuff in the theme fits together, what types of files and extension, the basics.
Whenever I make custom graphics for apps, I do this. First, take a look at the files associated with the app. If you have actual graphic files, than it's just a simple create and replace. Some apps use .dat files, which are protected sets of files. Like with Spb apps, you have to rename "file.dat", to "file.zip" and extract with the password. If after browsing through the files and find nothing, PM someone about how to change it.
I used M2D once, but never really looked at what it included. I suggest downloading a theme that is not a .cab file, and see what's included. If you still can't find your answer, PM someone.
Wish I could help, but I have only used it for a grand total of 10 minutes.
Well, in my whole 5 minutes of looking into this, the quickest way i can see is to download a theme from someone like - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=448326...
Then modify to your liking, and extract to the windows folder on your vogue.
Hope this helps.

I was wondering the same thing on how to make the custom themes. Did you have any luck pknyo?
From what I've seen on these you can take the elements you like from several themes and combine them.
If you open one of the .ZIP files, you'll see a structure. All of the icons that are needed are named and there's a bunch of them.
You can also open and check out the .XML file at the end it has the sizing criteria for the themes.
If I am incorrect here, feel free to correct.

CPR File editing

To start off, I want to say I have used the search function. I have been google'ing and searching the entire xda forums for well over 2 days, and i just can't find anything. Maybe i am google/searching incorrectly.
Anyways...
I was wondering if either someone could describe how the CPR file works in terms of tags like FORM, LAYER, etc. (not those two because they are self-explanitory, but along those lines). Also does anyone know what all the possible tags that can be used in that file are? I am sorry if this is a dumb question, but I have searched for tutorials, sdk notes, CPR file structure, everything i can think of, and I have yet to get an actual guide (although I did find a couple of cool Apps to use for customizing CPR files visually)...
Thank you in advance

guess i need to get better at my searching skills.
Thank you again
Happy to help
I think you get used to where things are too "didn't even search for it"

Another Discovery

So, you know how you can send an error report by turning on report logging and pressing the button combination (ALT + SHIFT + Y)? Well, I did that, sent it to myself, and opened the attachment that came with it. Here's what I found: a ton of clg files. the attachment is attached to this post. I'll work on opening these files and seeing if they're useful or not.
First: No offense but this is old news its been looked at and tried many times. Most recently by me. Your welcome to go over it yourself and if you find something we missed great.
Second: You have good ideas but look deeper into these things before you post them.
open them with notepad
Have you tried opening them with notepad? Try that and see what you get. It's pretty cool, but I didn't have enough space on this post to paste what I got.
Yeah, we've already looked at the log files in Notepad and other text editing programs. If you find something useful in them, feel free to tell us what you have found.
Here:
http-//technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc721962%28WS.10%29.aspx
...is an explination of what a .clg file is. Basically from my understanding it's a binary file that contains what state your phone's settings are in. So it's definitely a one way street but there is still a sliver of a chance of finding some interesting stuff in there.
