I have a couple of 2.35 AR movies that were converted to 800 x 480 mp4 files with Touch HD Video Converter. When I play them in Coreplayer, they are in the proper aspect ratio with black bars on the top and bottom. However, they stutter so badly they are unwatchable. They play smoothly in WMP and HTC Album. However, in both players, the full screen image is cropped on the side and zoomed in to eliminate black bars. HTC Album has almost no configurations for video. WMP has a video settings tab, but nothing I did there fixed the issue.
Anyone else encounter this problem?
It changed a little with the 6.5 ROM's so what I am going to say applies to them. If you are using the HTC album if you press the "fullscreen" icon (to the right of the stop control while playing) it should cycle through three settings. One of them seems to be "original size" so cycle through them and see if one of them fixes your problem (there are only three so you'll see if this fixes your issue almost right away).
I would like to add to solsearch's comment:
When you play a movie in HTC player, you can see the video size icon to the right on the control bar. Like he said, 3 settings. First should be fill screen, second is forced 800x480, and last is normal.
However, some converters crop your movie so you can't use option 2 and 3; they fill the screen and remove top and bottom. This isn't a problem for you I guess since they are normal in Coreplayer ) So yeah, just use the size selector in HTC album player...
After trying out a few converters, I have ended up with Videora's TP2 converter. It's quick and it doesn't mess up the movie. And you can queue converting.

was experiencing the same with coreplayer... click options>video> and click "raw"... worked pretty good for me...

There is no way to *append* or *enqueue* songs to the Now Playing list, so you must create a playlist which will then lets you append - but not whilst it's playing - you must re-load the playlist (and possibly lose your place if you decided in the middle of the list that you wanted to extend it with another few albums). This is no major problem, since you can re-queue and navigate to where you were...
HOWEVER:
Once in the playlist screen when you choose "Add songs" from the Menu button and then choose the Artist - it displays *all* the artist's songs alphabetically (!) Very odd behaviour. Why doesn't it show you their respective albums as it does do if you choose to queue up a single album without first going into the playlist?
Sure you can add an album directly by going to the *albums* screen (from within the playlist), but it won't tell you who they're recorded by, so with a very large connection you simply have to know who your albums are by if you can't make out the thumbnail album cover...
Secondly, and most annoying of all is that if you choose to add songs to the playlist straight from the artist/album screen without first going into the playlist and choosing "add songs", it queues the albums' tracks in alphabetical *not* track order. All my tracks are MP3s and have clean v1 and v2 ID3 tags (with embedded album art) so I know they're not at fault - especially since if you add the albums from within the playlist, it orders them correctly.
Are these problems HTC's or Androids responsibility? It's difficult to tell if the player itself is a Sense app or native Android one with Sense mods since the Desire is my first foray into the Android OS.
I've tried almost every other highly rated free player in the market - MixZing, Museek, Vanilla, MortPlayer, Meridian, Cubed and they all either share some of the above behaviour or are just plain ugly and/or counter-intuitive.
The actual look/function of the built-in Music player is clean, simple and running in native resolution with no silly coverflow/3D effects - just regular browsing which I like, together with the excellent iPod Touch/iPhone-esque "drag/drop to reorder songs" feature, and I love the lockscreen widget (although its response time is sluggish to say the least when pausing a track).
The only other player I've found that allows proper enqueuing (it even gives the choice to append to the end or insert into the middle - thumbs up) and correct album/artist browsing and track ordering is Museek, but its interface is frankly pretty ugly and simply not as clean/efficient as the Desire's own - plus it lacks the lock-screen widget.
Does anyone know of any other (if only there were an Android version of IMO the very best Linux-based player - Amarok v1.4), or if there are rumblings of any of these "features" of the Desire's player being fixed?
Who should I be reporting to for bugfixes/feature requests (Android or HTC)?
I hate the stock Music player that comes with the EVO, I think its slow, and not easy to navigate around.
I tried Mix zing player, but it looks ugly, the graphics are made for a 480*320 screen and haven't been updated for the WVGA devices like the EVO.
So I downloaded the AOSP stock ANDROID Music player, the one on the Nexus one and the Droid.
The issue is, that when you are on the main screen where it says albums, artists, songs, and playlists.
And you are in the songs category when you scroll through the lists using the grey wheel on the right that helps navigate through letters, it is not accurate at all.
For example i will be at the top of my song list, I have 800 Songs BTW and I will scroll down a little using the grey bar and the bar will bring up W, then R and V to show the letter of the song names, but it doesn't even bring up the right songs, see for yourself in the video and please tell me why it is doing this or if their is a fix.
I know their are plenty of alternatives, but I really like this music app aside from this problem. I am thinking it has something to do with the FPS issue with the EVO and or some HTC Framework or app that is causing a problem.

anyone, Theres got to be a fix for this
It's probably listing the songs alphabetically by file name, and displaying the songs by ID3 Track Name field.
Download doubletwist, problem solved. Best music player for android devices by far.
hi there
i have a lot of small media clips and most of them start with black screen so when i open gallery I see all the clips as black thumbs so i dont know which one to choose !!
is there a way to solve that or i'll have to live with this stupid gallery !!!???
You say small media clips that start with a blank screen, as in a video? If so, why not just open the video player app? It shows the name of each file and a thumbnail (though that will still be black)
I cant view videos transferred from PC in Mobo Player. There is videos folder in Mobo but cant see video in it. It shows in stock gallery and from there can b played with moboplayer. But how to view and play from moboplayer.
Hi techpal
In moboplayer, you have to first go into settings and add which folders you want to add. Its the folder looking icon on the left bottom once you hit the settings key. Everytime you add videos later on you will need to refresh it by clicking settings button and then the round arrow key (refresh) to refresh it to see all the new videos you have added
I posted a screen shot.
1. Points to where you click to add the folders of where you have videos located
2. Click this refresh button when you add new videos and want Mobo to see those videos (just like how your phone does a media scan for Gallery)
U no I want a small transparent MM style song name, not a garish N type white rectangle.
After long searching I found a way . A music app. Have barely tested it sonically speaking, but it has a good black amoled setting so far so good.
musicolet

What did you think it would work right? Beware this app plays the wrong artwork for MANY of my artworks. Though I checked and it don't seem ta be overwriting the correct art. It just don't see it right.
Here is the typical lock screen with music on bluetooth and musicolet app.

Click to collapse
I use USB Player Pro. Full screen artwork on lockscreen as well. The wrong artwork means the file tag is incorrect. You will need a tag editor like MP3Tag to edit the file metadata.
Looks like it may be the folder structure setting. I have a lot of folders inside folders. I just set folder structure to heirarchical instead of linear. Too bad it does the scan without Progress bar. Still might work out, has options for rescan and update metadata...
It is slow though. And glitchy. I can't recommend the app beyond the notification solution. At least with VLC I know what the app is doin. This app is either scanning and having problems or loading and having problems loading. Unresponsive at only 21000 songs loaded. Freezes.
Wonder what happens with a 29000 song share?
