Control Panel Location - Windows Mobile Software Development

My undersatanding is that the Windows Mobile Control Panel is made up of 3 files: "Ctlpnl.exe, Control.exe, and collection of Control Panel (.cpl) files"
Code:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa932174.aspx
I have found dozens of articles saying how to link directly to a Control Panel item, but not directly to the Control Panel itself.
How would I create a shortcut directly to the Control Panel?
Thanks.

EDITED:
SORRY, I misunderstood your question. You want to run complete control panel, not just specific item.
Well, there is ControlPanel.exe on samsung omnia i900 that do exactly what you want: opens the complete windows control panel.
I could upload it if you want to try it.

unfortunately I do not have a Control Panel.exe. I have searched the windows directly for something that even looks similar. No dice.

Here is ControlPanel.exe from omnia. Try it.

wow! No shh#%. That worked! Thank you so much!
Edit: Thats odd. It opened once and not again. It attempts to open but doesn't do anything.
Edit: soft Reset has it working agian so far. Will post back if it doesn't.
But thank you so much for your help with this! You saved me tons of headaches.

Kavana's OS and HTC Quick Notes for Smartpone, General ?

Guys, I running the aforementioned OS and if you go to Celetask and hit (1) A and then (7) New Task and then Path and scroll down and select TextNotes it launches HTC Quick Notes for Smartphones which is awesome and I was able to put a shortcut in Start Menu via Resco Explorer but when I try to use Chome Configurator to setup a new panel via Application Launcher it does not show up, this is driving me crazy, crazy, crazy, and I even found a killer icon to setup a Sliding Panel but I need someones expertise on this matter, I would greatly appreciate some tutoring on this issue. Check out the icon below, isn't cool hi-res from www.iconspedia.com
I dont understand how you can not create a action url to text notes.
Create a new page under settings or any another panel.
\Windows\textnotes.exe
I've tried but it does not show up in the listed applications under Chome Configurator, I double swear ! but you can teach me how, please
Thanks, I got it, I did not know you can use the other options to select whatever you want.

Google Maps Panel (auto load version)

hi,
I have made a simple panel that opens up google maps (only tested on uk rom) But i have only been able to run the program after u press on a button to start up.
Does anyone know the code (html) to make a program autostart on open up?
I have attached the panel for anyone who wants it
ps. this panel should be able to run any software on the phone as long as u have the path to the exe (change code in the source file)
Also is there a way to have a option menu in the panel manager for panels made with the html generator?
Added V2 with autoload
Nice...I'll try it...give you some feedback...care for a screenshot?
Thanks
added pics
the panel manager screen capture did not get the whole screen but u can see it top middle
Great contribution !!
Adding to the panels library
Keep up the good stuff !!
Maybe it will be useful when it can autostart. As it is now, I'd rather have a shortcut to start the program than a panel.

Click to collapse
<body onLoad="extended://app:start?app=Program Files/GoogleMaps/GoogleMaps.exe">
Edit:
Well, that didn't work at all, so I guess the HTML Panel thingy doesn't support that parameter.
Tried <meta http-equiv="refresh" content="5;url=blah blah"> too, but no go. I'm out of ideas I'm afraid.
yh, i tried lots of different code lines (even tried to add flash code as the new panel manager works with flash in panels) but did not work.
but there must be a way as the over panels auto load.
I have a cab extracter software and going to see it i have extract the panels software and then add my own code to it.
but im not very good with the development side of things
Couldnt you just ask the guys that made the youtube or navigation panel?
Or maybe look at what the code says

What Software Would U Like As A Panel

Is there any software on your x1 that u would like to have as a panel?
If there is please post a message with the path to the exe and i will try and make a panel.
If u can find 2 pics (one portrait and one landscape to match the software it would help.
ps. with a bit of luck some of the will turn out like my Google Maps Panel V2
(I will try my best but some may not work, and its only standard software, not plug in or UI)

Have Fun
An offer I can't refuse!
I'm not looking to have a specific program Panel-ized, but rather I'm interested in a panel that can disable TF3D upon entering(unless TF3D is turned off when you switch panels I'm not sure) and shows you a list of installed games or 3D apps. I Like to play games on my phone in short bursts and only when I need to kill a minute or 2, would be nice If it was a bit quicker to get right to the game rather than having to navigate several menus to disable TF3D and then opening programs and running the game.
If This is possible I would be greatly appreciative, also if it were possible to add/remove apps from its list either thru the panel or thru reg edit or editing a file that can be changed simply by adding a line with a link to the program I desire, that would be fantastic.
PS: I realize this is slightly different than what you are offering, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask.
should be possible to make a panel that opens your games folder (showing all your games, or to open a game (solitare etc).
not sure what u mean by add/remove list? do u mean the uninstall menu?
I will see if i can make a few panels for games, see what u think.
im using a standard rom, i dont know if your rom has a different path to the exe's, but will try and u let me know if they work on yours
im having a problem making it open the folder, for some reason when u tell it to autoload a folder it activates opera and shows u it as a page.
should be able to make any game autoload if u can give me the path (eg. program files - games -solitare).
still looking into the uninstall program (cant seem to find the exe in windows, if any one knows please let me know)
i will keep testing
sorry, I didnt mean uninstall, I meant have the ability to add or remove a game from being listed in the panel since I hope to add more games to my phone in the future, but if you want to just have it open a folder with shortcuts to my current games I suppose that would be easier and you could just use the current windows\start menu\programs\games folder which should be the same for everybody. All I'm really looking for with this is to be able to push panel button select "game Launcher" panel and select a game while having TF3d disabled while this panel (and subsequent game) is in use.
Again thank you for taking the time to help me and I'm sure anyone else who wants to play 3D games with this panel.

thanks for the proposal,
for me, I would LOVE to have the abililty to have the alarm clock, strait, and not having to goes to setting for activating an alarm...
I would like to know how, to create a path, for say, some folders who are located in the microcard, and we could goes on and on...
Thanks you...Also, very often when I try to install a software, even, when it tell me the software was beautifully installed, I never truly know, where it is, and, very often too, I can not see or use it....I do wonder if this could also be related to the size in pixels of some applications...?
I was thinking for my perfect panel......
Some thing like panel manager, but with the running apps.
Could you catch me????
I I have 2-3 or more apps (usually 2-3) running at the same time, if I press Xpanel button, the panel launch icons of the apps running, so i can touch the app I want to focus.....
Could be Possible????

look in the romove program settings, see if the software is there.
could be lots of reasons why its not working:
it may not be made for wm6.1
it may have to be installed in the phone memory not sd card
(dont think its the size of the screen as it would still show up as an icon but would not work when u start the program).
is it the built in alarm u want or a different program (eg spb time)
to get the path i need just go on the file explorer and list the path from the device to the alarm.exe (eg = sd card - program files -handy alarm - alarm.exe).

i dont think its possible to do without knowing serious programing. it is possible to make a panel that u press on that has still pics for each app (3 apps = 3 still pics) that u can press on to send u to the app u want.
for this i need the path to the 3 or more apps (program exe files) to make this happen

New Touch Pro2 Owner with a couple of questions

Hi guys-
this is really a great forum - thanks for the great work! Excellent help for a TP2 newbie.
Touch Pro2 impressions: I just upgraded (vzw) from my ancient (and yet incredibly reliable) Motorola Q, and this thing is truly awesome. I used a Touch Pro almost a year ago, and returned it because it felt sluggish and a bit buggy. I think the 2 is a major improvement. Very responsive, great phone and speakerphone, great wifi and bluetooth and gps, great keyboard (but no tab key?), better battery, surprisingly inexpensive.
Questions that I couldn't find answers to in previous threads:
1. Reminders: I see that the calendar reminders do not allow any option for changing the snooze time - it is just 5 minutes. Weird, as my WinMo 5 Q would let me choose a range of time, from 5 minutes up to a week, as I recall. This is disappointing. But even more disappointing is that when it is attached via usb to my pc, synched, and a reminder pops up in Outlook (2003), I can snooze on the PC, but that snooze does not synch with the TP2. Any ideas or suggestions? This is actually very frustrating.
2. Calendar: I have seen screen shots of the day view that has weather, even for future dates. I don't have that - anyone know how to enable?
thanks in advance for any help!
This worked for me to get the snooze options back:
Start a registry editor and navigate to key:
HKLM/System/Shell/Notification/OEM
Change the value of CustomUIDLL from NotificationLayout.dll to NotificationLayoutNew.dll
Just add New, it won't find that .dll and starts the old interface, with the snooze option.
Don't forget, after the registry change, turn the TP2 off and back on to activate.
Regarding your question about the weather forcast in the calendar day-view, you need to set your city in the World Clock screen (ie, tap the large clock on the Home tab).
There's a great hack (cRaCKwHoRe's Snooze Options) which gives you the snooze options back.
Also worth looking at are "InboxExtender", (allow read all, delete al options) and "Smaberg X1 Powerbutton 12 icons actionscreen" (12 options on holding the power button down)
You guys rule!
@itm - reg fix works great - thanks
@ohyeahar - that's it, thanks
@en_croute - I will try it as soon as i get some time, sounds useful, thanks

I just noticed that the current weather is not shown for me either.
I do have a city selected. In the "day" view on the calendar is just shows the single appointment I have. If I change to yesterday. I do see a weather picture. I went to the TF3D weather tab.. it was initially blank.. it updated and showed the current weather. I went back to the calendar view.. still nothing for "today". Only yesterday. Any ideas?
What is a good registry editor?
Never used one before and I need to find one so I can get my battery icon back after doing Battlevel.cab .

PHM_Regedit or Total Commander are the two most recommended ones here.
PHM is a little easier to navigate/use (mostly due to visual elements), but Total Commander also has a full set of file-explorer functions that PHM does not. Both are free.
Thank you so much sirphunkee. I was beginning to think nobody talked to newbies on this forum. I'll definetly be looking both of these up.
Okay I looked at both of them and downloaded the PHM_Regedit. Now I can't figure out if I should use MyMobiler to drag the Zipped cab file over or if I should unzip it first? When I unzipped it it did not look like a cab file. Does this work on a Sprint phone? Some of the cabs don't work on a Sprint phone. I'd hate to do another hard reset to get it to work like it is.

Hey there, no problem...we were all new here at one point, and asking the same types of questions
I'm not sure what source you downloaded it from, so I'm not entirely sure how it might have been packaged, but I would have guessed it should have just been a regular .cab file inside of a .zip. Either way, you can just download and use the cab I've attached here, I can confirm this one works just fine.
You can use MyMobiler to drag the cab over to your phone (it drops it in your "my documents" folder by default), and it will start the install automatically for you. Once you have it installed, you'll just find the icon to run it in your regular list of programs. And yes, it will work just fine on the CDMA (Sprint/Verizon) versions of the TP2...it's specific to what type of processor your phone has, not what type of radio.
Now, if you're not entirely familiar with registry editing, it's a good idea to read up on it a bit...it's very simple to do, but also very simple to create issues by doing the wrong thing. Also, it's always a good idea to create a backup of your registry (PHM can do that for you, just store it the backup on your SD card for safe keeping), in case anything goes wrong, you can just revert back to the working version

Link to the Control Panel

Hello guys,
After a long search on the web I can't find the answer to "How to create a control panel shortcut on Windows Mobile".
Out of the box, our Rhodium are packaged with a "Settings" shortcut in the start menu which links to the Settings tab of Manilla. I find this annoying, if i want to go to the manilla settings, i use manilla not the start menu.
So I want a direct link to Windows' control panel. I've seen many ways to link to a specific applet, but not the whole control panel.
Anyone can help ?
PS : Also I'm looking for the HTCSettings.exe file stored in every Rhodium (WM6.5 version)... I've accidentally deleted it :/
Thanks !
I am not sure I understand the question, but I think what you want is to be running TouchFLO instead of Windows Default.. If that is correct, the solution is simple. Click Start>Settings>ToDay>Items>TouchFLO 3D>OK>X and you should have it. What you want is to be running TouchFLO instead of Windows Default.
Hope that helps.
what he is saying is that he wants to got to the control panel or "settings" from the start menu, when you hit start and then settings it takes you to manilla settings
What annoys me is that the Bluetooth and Today screen prefs are ONLY available through the Windows CPL, things like QuickMenu don't see them..
You got is cs400, that's what I'm looking for.
Someone can send me the original HTC Settings.exe (Located in \Windows\Start Menu\Programs) ?
Okay guys, I figured out how to solve this problem by hanging around in the registry !
How to change the "Settings" icon in the Start Menu to make it open WM's Control Panel rather than Manilla's settings panel ?
- First go to \Windows\Start Menu\Programs and remove (or move) the file HTC Settings.exe
- Then go to the registry \HKLM\Security\Shell\StartInfo and change the value HideSettings from 1 to 0
- Reboot your device, it's done !
I am trying to change the 'Settings' button in the Start Menu to open the WM Control Panel instead of the Manila settings, however, the \HKLM\Security\Shell\StartInfo key does not exist in my registry. Is there another way to link to the Control Panel? Thanks!
WM control panel shortcut
I would appreciate anyone telling me how to make a shortcut that links to the WM Control Panel.
Thanks!

Thank-you a million times! Just installed something that crashed my HTC Sense, and couldn't for the life of me work out how to get to Remove Programs so I could un-install it! I now have my phone back, without having to go down the hard-reset route which I'd feared was my only option.
you could do as htc intended and clicked "all settings" on the settings tab for those manila doesnt cover.
Which would have worked brilliantly....had I been able to get to the settings tab in the first place.
With Sense freezing, I had to run the 'change my background' option from 'Getting Started' to get into the Today options and disable Sense. Then use the tips in this thread to get the Settings folder back on my Start Menu. Normally I would have used the All Settings option, but couldn't in this case, and it's funny how much you don't realise is missing from a start menu....until you need it!
