I think everyone here who has a Rhodium/TP2/TiltII knows what the virtual keyboard looks like. I'm having a problem with mine, and hopefully someone can help me figure it out.
I was at a party last night, and had my phone in my pocket. Someone texted me, and I didn't feel like pulling the whole keyboard out, so I chose the virtual method. Well, some little draw pad came up instead of the keyboard! I'm so confused. So i just pull out the keyboard and type what I had to type.
Checked my phone a little while later, and had some more texts. I hit the virtual keyboard this time, and I have one will REALLY small letters.
Does anyone know how to set it back to the HTC keyboard? TIA!
Hey man not to worry, you can download some different keyboard styles. I just got my Tilt 2 yesterday so I can't really point you in any direction but it's doable. Try searching around the section for different keyboard's.
Good luck.
Thanks for the reply
I figured out what happened though!
In case this happens to anyone else:
If your keyboard looks a little different than usual, hold down the up arrow next to the keyboard icon on the bottom of the screen, and it will show you your possible input options
Oh right, sorry I forgot to mention that.

Hello all. Is it possible to pair the Apple Wireless Keyboard with a rooted EVO? Of course, a ROM supporting HID would be necessary (CM6?). I would love to use my EVO to take notes in class. I know that there are keyboards such as the Freedom Pro, but I already own an Apple Wireless and would rather not buy another keyboard if at all possible.
Thanks!
I don't see why not. The Ctrl key won't work, and neither will the Apple-specific keys (Option/AppleKey/Whateveryouwanttocallit).
Great to hear. Every time I've attempted to root I've come across various annoying errors (mostly "Main Version Is Older") so I gave up for a while. Hearing that the Apple Keyboard works gives me the motivation to try rooting again.
Thanks
This is exactly what I am thinking of doing. Especially with the kickstand of evo and the larger screen I would be able to take notes in class with a portable keyboard instead of an iPad or a laptop. The quesiton is, does it truly work or will I have issues...
I do have CM6 and apparently HID is enabled so I am hoping nothing goes wrong. I will report back.
Holy ****, I am in love. Got my phone rooted (with CM6) and am currently typing this on my Apple Keyboard.
I am nerdgasming everywhere right now.
Please go in details on what works and what doesn't. Perhaps a video?
I haven't had the time to fully test it, but it works for the most part. You have to get used to the idea of the keys working as if it were a physical version of the on-screen keyboard (things such as pressing shift twice goes to caps lock). One annoying thing is that option-delete won't just backspace through the previous word, but instead will delete the entire row of text. Obviously, all mac-specific keys don't do anything.
Lastly, the arrow keys are mapped differently than you'd think. I think it's "up" to scroll backwards through text in one line (changing cursor character by character), "down" to scroll forward through text in a line, "left" to scroll to the next line of text, and "right" to scroll to the previous line. Bit confusing tbh.
Right now it's very usable, but it'd be really great if someone could find a way to change the keymappings for the little nuisances.

Does that change depending on what your screen orientation is?
Good call. You're right, the arrow keys work correctly when the orientation is in portrait mode. Unfortunately, the kickstand makes it so much more convenient to keep it in landscape.
Any devs think it could be possible to whip up an app to fix this?

My evo doesn't seem to pair with the keyboard. Any steps?
0000 as the password?
Type a passcode on your EVO, then type that (followed by Enter/Return) on your bluetooth keyboard. It took me a couple attempts, but I got it to work using either 1234 or 0000 (I forget which).
I took notes in my math class today, using VerbTeX (a LaTeX for Android application). It worked really, really well for the most part, except for an annoying bug I noticed: everything seemed to map correctly except for the less-than and greater-than signs (that is, SHIFT-, and SHIFT-.) The keyboard types ";" for shift-"," and ":" for shift-".". Frustrating...

Anybody else having these issues? (incorrect mappings for the < and > keys, and the arrow keys in landscape mode)
For those unsure of how to connect mac bluetooth keyboard to EVO. Its similar to actual set on the mac. You have to key the passcode in on your EVO 0000 or 1234 then initiate the same sequence on the keyboard itself and press enter. It will then confirm you are connected to a HID device. I'm using CM7 wish I had a mouse pointer right now.

You wanted a video? Here you go. I'll be updating the vid here soon as I've been using my Evo in the "Desktop" config for a week now and have harld touched my regular PC.
Got a quick question that i'm hoping you guys can help me with:
Is there a way to completely disable the slide out keybaord on a Tilt2?
I recently woke up to my phone sitting in a puddle of water all night and promptly started freaking out. Fortunately the phone is ok, for the most part. The only issue is the physical keyboard. Water must have damaged part of the board because now when I go to send txt messages, it starts spitting out random characters as if some of the buttons are stuck in the down position. Same thing happens when i go to make a call.
I've narrowed it down to the top 2 rows of the keyboard not functioning, and the characters that on the top 2 rows are the numbers and letters that keep repeating any time I try to enter text into a field.

To disable the keyboard, just don't slide it out and use it. It's that simple. lol
Yeah unfortunately it doesn't seem to matter if the keyboard is out or not. Thats why I am trying to disable it completely.
I saw another post where someone had the same problem. The solution that came up was to change the keyboard's registry value to 0. But it didn't work for me.
I actually really dig the stock keyboard since it has a row of numbers (my thumb keyboard doesn't have that!), but one thing that drives me absolutely nuts is how while I am typing away I some how knock something to go into "one-handed mode." It totally throws me off. I then go to settings and manually uncheck it, but is there a way to stop it forever? lol.
Bro, tell me about it. This absolutely drives me nuts. I find that it happens when I hold the UP arrow.
Let me know if you find a fix.
Same here...wtf...I dont understand and can never reproduce the issue
Theres to places in settings that I could find that may be causing this for you.
Settings -> One handed operation
Settings -> Language and input -> Samsung Keyboard settings
I have it off in both places and its never switched once for me.
I randomly had the same issue and couldn't figure out how I did it or how to undo it. Finally, I went to settings》one handed operation, and unchecked everything. PROBLEM SOLVED LOL!!!

Both my settings have been set appropriately since day 1 (I dont like one-handed operation). Apparently, on the note 10.1, you can pinch the keyboard to change modes. Is this just a glitch in our phones because sometimes it does toggle the tiny keyboard on my note 2.
very random, super annoying...pleaseee samsung fix this issue, give us multi-touch, and pleasee autocorrect my damn messages already. those are my only 3 grievances. oh, and the slight delay with the home and/or power button when turning phone on and/or returning to home screen. am I asking for too much??
edit: fixed home button delay by disabling s-voice via double click... noticeably faster and well worth disabling
While it's not a real solution, the best option IMO is to switch keyboards entirely lol. I prefer the Gingerbread Keyboard and have been using it since my Epic 4G.

I'd be fine with switching the keyboard if I could get a number row like the stock one. I own both Thumb Keyboard and Swift keyboard and I don't see the option for either
Im so glad im not the only one this happens too I hate it but I love the keyboard with the full number row

I have unchecked everything like you mentioned. The kb still changes to one hand operation while typing.
I think to reproduce, you have to press t and v at the same time. To change it back to normal layout, press L and A simultaneously.
It does not work all the time tho.

Does anyone have a possible fix/explanation for this? It's really frustrating and would've switched to a different kb if it weren't for the number row

It has to do with the pinch shortcut to goto one handed mode.... you can do the reverse pinch to go back to two handed mode... but its hardbto do..
I guess its when two fingers hit at once and it thinks you are pinching...I hate it but can not find a.way to disable it..
Yes. Let me DITTO this. All settings turned off but it's the "pinch" gesture or whatever. SUPER ANNOYING.
Please, I need to be able to stop this completely.

I was suffering from the same issue and after reading all these posts I found that a simple pinch to zoom action on the keyboard area will quickly fix it but permanently disabling I don't know
works by pinch zooming
I can change back and forth between keyboards by pinch zooming in and out. Galaxy Note II on AT&T
Im pretty tired as well of this... you type away super fast, come too close, and BOOM the f***er shrinks... pisses me off. Try to un-pinch it 8x before it goes "oh, hey go big again..." If there were only a keyboard out there that looked stock but had the top row of numbers to switch to... I hate this feature and need it GONE!!
One Handed Keyboard
I was having a problem getting the one handed keyboard turned off. I just figured it out. Open up a text & bring up the keyboard now click on the setting icon that is next to the spacebar. Unclick the One-Handed Operation & it is done!:good:
HI all,
I'm so confused about this. I know you can go to settings (both one handed operation and keyboard setting) and turn on/off one handed operation, but how do you toggle back and forth without going into settings?
Apparently pinch to zoom on the keyboard works for some people. It does NOT work for me.
others saying you need to hold shift, then press space then "L", again never worked once for me
I've also seen people saying use 2 fingers to slide left or right. Not working for me.
Some saying it switches on its own while typing (which annoyed them), but they are not sure how it happened.
Does anyone know? One handed is useful in some situations, but going to settings to change it just seems too hard.
Thanks,
You are not alone with this problem. I first read about the pinch toggle feature in a forum post and decided to try itiimmediately. No luck. No luck. No luck. Success. It was just as hard to toggle back to the normal keyboard. I had the most luck pinching my fingers together near or on the spacebar.
I personally use a wierd but brilliant keyboard called "messagease". I have the 4.2 android keyboard installed, SwiftKey Flow, Keymonk and Samsungs stock Swype keyboardbut I still end up using messagease for 90% of my writing.
Hi everyone!
I have a Samsung Galaxy S III on sprint, its running the stock ROM and needs to stay that way. The problem I am having is that the phone will NOT let me turn off swype. The option to deselect it is greyed out. This is VERY annoying because while typing a text message, I will sometimes role my finger a bit to one side, or i wont pick my finger up all the way. This results in massive typos and makes txting take about twice as long as it took me on my HTC Evo 4G. I have attached a screen shot of the screen showing the greyed out selection. Any help with this huge issue would be amazing!
Also, has anyone noticed an error where when typing a txt, the phone will offer you a word and if you take that suggestion and tap it, sometimes it deletes almost your whole txt message and you have to start over? I have had this happen way too many times for this not to be some strange programming error.
Anyway, thanks!
It looks like you have your default set to the Samsung Keyboard, I think that's about as much as you can do. I don't seem to understand your problem, if you're not using Swype why do you need to disable it entirely?
If you're using the Samsung Keyboard make sure you turn off the "Flow" setting. Tap the little gear at the right of the keyboard name. Or switch to a keyboard that doesn't have a "flow" setting like AI Keyboard or Thumb Keyboard. Whatever you do, don't use Swype if you don't want one finger sliding typing.
Yep!
Yep, you figured it out! Thanks mordbane! That was what fixed it! This is why I like xda and have been a member and coming here for so long, you guys have never failed me. I have attached a image of the setting I had to deselect! It was the T9 trace! No more badly messed up txts and typos! I just tested and now I can txt at a high speed with out any typos at all!
Seriously though, thanks again!
