Display "File as" in People Tab - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Is there a way of tweaking the People Tab in Touchflo to display the "file as" field of the contact in the text, rather then the contacts first name. It was one of my fave features of SPB Mobile Shell.

I think it depends on how you have your contacts entered in your address book. Mine are all synced from Outlook and the File As is set to "First Last", and that's how my People tab shows it. If you open up the MS contacts app on the phone, edit a contact, there should be a File As drop-down. I think by default it's Last, First or possibly just First if you don't have a last name entered.

Yeah, I have fileas set to First Last too, but for certain contacts in Outlook, such as buisness addresses, I don't put anything in the name fields, just the buisness field. Outlook then automatically sets the Fileas field to the buisness name instead.
At the minute, Touchflo just looks for the entry in the First Name field and shows that - I want it to show whatever is in the Fileas field instead. I'm currently using version 2.5, or Leo I think its codenamed.

Ah, yeah. I ran into that issue too. I ended up just having to copy the business name into the First name field in Outlook. Not the best solution, but it worked for me.

Aye, SPB used to be able to do it, so its not a fault with Windows mobile itself - there must be someway to tweak the registry or reverse the polarity or something.

Contacts name arrangement

Hi,
as it is, contacts stores Last name, First Name.
I would like to change that to First Name, Last Name.
Maybe some registry hack?
Thanks
WM6, TMOBILE
i think you can do that on Outlook... Display as FirstName LastName
its a per contact thing. edit a contact and change "file as" to how you want it. I remember easily changing all my contacts in outlook on the pc and then syncing it to the phone.

How to manage contacts with multiple mobile numbers?

some of my contacs have multiple mobile numbers, i.e. work, private, car mobile.....so, how can i manage them since wm6 doesn't allow me more than one mobile number for every contact. i know thta i can use inesoft address book, but using this software, once i have choosen my contact,i cannot directly send an sms to the contact, or at least i haven't understood how to.
have you got any suggestion for me.....i'm really bored with this issue, my nokia n70, symbian 3rd edition can handle multiple numbers for avery contact.....
maybe there's no answer to my question?
you cant
heck you cant even do that in Microsoft Outlook
You'll have to make multiple contacts for a single person
John 1
John 2
for each mobile number
Anyway, you'd have to manually select which mobile number to send a SMS to That'd be faster to have multiple contacts.
Otherwise, if it's just for voice call, then just put anything (house, work, etc), doesnt matter.
Try out pocket informant 8, in the contact list it will show multiple chooses, maybe it will fit your need, they have trial version so you can take it for a test spin for free .
It will take some time to get use to but the one handed operation is great to look up contacts and click to dial, blows the contact list in WM5/6 out of the water.
I have used several versions of this, very stable and works great and it will sync with outlook.

Hmmm you cant save multiple entries for the same name in SIM no matter what phone you use.
In wm all you do is create a new contact, and when you do that create the contact as outlook contact...that way you can add multiple number, email, address, etc etc...
I know how you feel; it's a pain to have several mobile numbers for one contact when you want to SMS (voice dialling is fine)
Here is how it can work while maintaining only one contact in Outlook:
- Enter additional mobile numbers in Outlook under pager, car, other (or whatever you fancy)
- When you want to create a new SMS, do NOT start typing the name directly to get auto completion, click the To: field instead (or go through Menu -> Add Recipient)
- This brings up your contact list, and you can now choose your contact and select any of his/hers numbers to send the SMS to..
Hope this helps
I'm not sure what you're aiming for exactly. WM6 has a lot of options for multiple mobile numbers, and AFAIK, Symbian S60 v3 has fewer options, at least on my N73 ME it does.
you can do this by adding the number under another option e.g. home, create new text then select contact through the contacts option rather than typing their name in the to box, you'll get the option then to choose either phone number or email address.
never tried before, i'll test it, thx for your suggestion
it is a real silly problem, in PC outlook you can add private fields, but you will not be able to synchronize it with your ppc. hope we can find a good real solution for this.

How to import contacts without breaking first/last name?

I exported my contacts from gmail and imported them into Outlook (I'm attempting to sync the contacts from my Android phone onto my Windows Mobile phone), however when I bring them into Outlook, anyone who's name was split up (for example "John Smith") it refiled as "Smith, John" so when I then sync that to my phone, it's displayed everyone with their last name first. This makes it impossible to find anyone and I want them to all show with their first name first, ie. "John Smith" but the only way I've found to do that is to click on each contact individually and change it.
Is there a better/faster way to make all of them just show up with their first name first? If not, let me know if you're interested in buying a Touch HD, because it's pretty much useless if it's gonna rename all my contacts every time I sync.
Try Shubaroo Contact Changer, it doesn't change anything except the "File As" value so they all appear First, Last.

Exchange first-last name in contacts?

Hi all,
I have just observed that my contacts are wrong, and I need to change between first <-> last name in them (they originate from a sony-erricsson phone).
Is there a tool to do the exchange automatically? Either in the phone, or inside outlook?
There is always the option to do it manually, but they are around 130 contacts...
hi petasis
i had the same problem and found the solution in MSoutlook (2k3)
go to Tools > Options > Preferences tab > Contacts Options button
there u can change how your contacts are displayed and saved
You can export your contacts from Outlook as a Windows CSV file, then modify that file using Excel and import it back to Oulook after deleting all old contacts, so they don't duplicate. The disadvantage

Yes there is.

Thank you for all your replies, but I don't want to simply change the "file as" (how the contacts are displayed). I want to change the actual contacts, as the first name field contains the surname (and the opposite).

new outlook 2010 and contacts sorting problem

hi there. i was using ms outlook to edit my contacts, first last name sorting, with a small addon program for outlook called FileAsSorter, but it seems to work only with ms outlook 2007. all i want is change the last and first name order, to be first last name on my phone. is there any other way?
thanks.
Cant remember the name of the PC side app i used for this a while ago, so wouldn't be able to tell you if its compatible with outlook 2010 or not.
But there is a mobile side cab floating around that does this. You have to tap and hold on your contact then when the menu appears, tap on file as: first last. I recently had to do this after switching exchange servers. I just turned a movie on and went into zombie mode and did it for all my 540 contacts in one sitting (actually when faster and easier than i though it would).
