6.5 Roms - speed, stability? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

I'm running a pretty stable, but older version of CRC's rom. I'm thinking about upgrading to one of the 6.5s and have a few questions for those who have been more adventurous than me.
Are the 6.5 roms stable?
Do they seem slow on our long in the tooth hermes?
are there any that have "timed" themes for volume? Example is SPB's solutions that allow you to say "Vibrate" --> for x configured times or any custom time.
Oh - and can these be installed via the SD card method? or direct USB only? I don't think i saw any that mention anything about the SD card. I haven't ever done an upgrade via this method - so don't know if that's been the established standard by now. I do have Hard SPL.
Are there any gotchas?
I've been doing a lot of browsing and window shopping reading through all the different roms threads - but it's just getting waaay too much to try figure out.
any input would be greatly appreciated.

My Hermes has struggled with 6.5 ROMs. Compared to Schap's and CRC's 6.1 ROMS, I have found it to be frustratingly slow.

You can flash them via SD card, no problem at all.
If you want really stable ROMs with everything just working, I'd recommend a 218xx build, which are the official 6.5 release builds. The newer 23xxx builds are more finger-friendly (originally intended for capacitive screens), but still beta and thus have some bugs.

did you eventually roll back to a 6.1 ? have you tried one of the ones based on the 218xx build like livven suggested?

cool thanks!

My experience of sluggish 6.5 ROMs is based on the 23XX builds. It sounds like it might be worth trying a 21XX but I've just gone back to 6.1 and lost my appertite for flashing for the moment.

I've tried many 6.5 ROMs. I found that TAI ROMs are awesome. You could see the screenshot:

Speed & stability is good too.
I prefer the SD method. The easy way. Just rename the rom to HERMIG.nbh and copy it to SD card. Flash it. After finish flashing the rom, hard reset it.
That's it done.

Sorry mistyping, the correct one is HERMIMG.nbh

Manila2D is still somewhat buggy and slows down the device very much, especially the new 2.0 versions from the HTC Mega.
But try it yourself, everyone has different preferences!

what is the stablest rom for hermes???

is the official wm6 the stablest than others cooked rom ???
No, quite the opposite. In most cases you will find that cooked roms included fix's / tweaks that improve the reliability of the official rom.
And which rom is the stablest ???
stability issues normally occur when you start to install 3rd party applications. I recommend you try a few out, customize them and then see which ones you find stable. Obviously the more recent the rom, the more stable they are likely to be due to them including the latest patches etc.
for stability I like vp3g rom
Nobody can actually tell you which is the best because it`s all depends on individual device taste, performance, radio and app preference. So, you need to start reading the cooks threads, do some testing and decide which one works best for your device.
No doubt here.
I have installed nearly all cooked roms, and as conclusion ...
One fail here the other fail there.
Now I'm on last K's rom. For me the most stable and reliable.
More than two month without flashing...
Roms are like flawours, but if you want to flash and rest for a while, for sure K's is the best choice.
Regards
for my choise there are 2 roms:
1) K's Rom WM6.0 Final (I'm using the lite version for 2 months now)
2) Olio's Rom 3.54, also lite
both are smooth, small and really fast
vp3g all way. PLEASE COME BACK!!!
K's Rom for me is the best one. Tried TNT WM 6.1, It is a good rom, but 6.1 has its bugs, which I haven't been used to for months so I went back to K's. vp3g's is a awesome rom also.
Like TNT SE myself.... Dont forget to sim/cid unlock your phone before you Hard SPL it though, could cause problems otherwise.

Faster Dell Axim x51v

I am sure that the answer is here somewhere, but I can't find where.
I have an Axim x51v Mobile 5 rom A12 (official ver)
I would very much like to make the device go faster, as fast as possible.
Please tell me what to do.
Overclocking is not an option that i want to risk.
I have no need (that I know of) for Mobile 6.
Thanks,
Jo
You can try a forum dedicated to the X51v at www.aximsite.com to see what tips and tweaks are available to increase performance.
However, making it faster is relative. WM5 without apps installed is fast even with the stock ROM. Having apps running and installing new apps tends to add to the lack of responsiveness of WM5.
You may not have a need for WM6.1 or want a custom ROM, but for now, that's the only way I've found to increase and push the responsiveness of Windows Mobile--WM5 or WM6.1. Makuu & Lenny have done some great optimization to the OS and I've been very happy with my X51v ever since I've upgraded to their ROMS (tried WM5, WM6 or WM6.1).
Thanks
I have been thru aximsite and didn't really find what I was looking for, meaning a quick and easy way. You are correct that I have loaded it up and that is really my problem.
Where can I find Makuu & Lenny's tweaked OS?
Also, I have seen mention og football's ROM. Is it worth it?
Thanks,
Jo

LennySH ROM

They are all good but with different customizations. All are based off of Football's work. I prefer Makuu's. His edition has all the software I use (rltoday, TCPMP, VGA Mode, etc). Your preference may be different. You can try them all for a couple of days. I use Sprite Backup 6.2 to restore all my programs and settings on every ROM change (I just hate reinstalling everything). I'm sure if I install everything fresh, my Ax will respond better but it's fast enough right now.
Thanks very much.
I will give each a try and see what happens.
Now I just have to have the time to do it.
Greatly appreciate.

Look in Start>Settings>System>Power>Processor and set to "Maximun Performance" rather than the default "Auto". Then you will have 624 MHz speed at all times, rather than throttling down to as low as 104 - at the expense of battery life of course. (If WM5 doesn't have this, then right there is a good reason to go to WM6 - I upgraded to WM6.1 the day I got my x51v so I don't know if this setting is there in WM5)
That was actually the first setting that I set when I got my Axim two years ago.
Thanks
You may have some success by setting the glyphcach value higher in the registry, by turning menu animations off, and a few little things like that. Try the latest football ROM, or Lenny's forthcoming L10 rom. I goofed around with both and compared to WM5 A012 official which I still flash every once in a while to put the awsomeness of the new ROMS into perspective and they were way way faster. If I had never flashed WM6 i would never have believed the device could run so fast!
Upgrading to a WM6 or WM6.1 ROM has a dramatic effect on the speed and stability of my X51V and I speak from using these ROMs since the beginning of this year. Well worth a try, just make sure you select a ROM thats for your specific unit and that you follow all of the directions from the site you get the ROM from.
I went for Lenny's rom and am very happy.
I recommend it.
Though there is one issue,
My battery life has gone down drastically.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Extended Rom Problems after installing Wm6.1 and going back to 6.0

After 3 terrible days dealing with diferent wm6.1 roms from here, I go back to my the old and stable K's Wm6 Final.
My experience with Wm6.1 has been completly awfull. HR, screen frezzes, white screens on load, no GSM, App crashes .... Even installing previously a official WWE rom.
I know that there are people working with 6.1 without problems but in my opinion, if somebody need a sure and confiable hermes phone better to stay away from 6.1.
Regards
Pd.: Wm6.1 Roms Installed: last from PDACorner, last from PDAViet, MRH 5.7, and NiaX ESP (All same problems)

Mmmm strange. I use the CRCs V11 since it is available and waiting for the next Shaps french one. Even if my hermes is "french", all applications are working fine (TomTom, a lot of GPS apps, Basic4PPC, astronomy softwares, PocketCM, Tcpmp, etc...). Even video calls are working fine. Battery consumption is fair (no push mail) with 1.47.00.10 radio rom. Till now i did not miss a call and speed is good (obviously, more you add apps, slower is your pda)
Btw, i always "flash" roms using sdcard method. IMO, it is the only reliable way (no possible usb deconnexion, so easy, PC independent,...)
Give a try to CRC's V11. Who knows? You could find your way through 6.1
Hope this helps
Wm6.1 problem
I agree with you. So far try out so many ROM with WM6.1. Encounter all sort of problems like hang when making calls, network not found, auto hard reset. But only Pays WWE 3.00 Final Full this ROM I never face all this problems at all. Perhaps you might want to give a try on Pays ROM 3.00. Cheers!
i'm using crc v11 till now and never experiencing any problem like that.
Did those roms, pays and crc, have Extended rom or are Big Storage?

CRC V11 stores elements in extended rom (as far as i know). If i can suggest something: As you experienced problems with 6.1, just start first with a rom which seems stable. As a test, it is not so important to be Big Storage or not
I have been using MRH 5.5 for several weeks now with out a single freeze. Works great.
CRC12.1
definitely no problems. Unless you want to run microsoft's live search. The only thing that doesn't go and i haven't had a chance to tweak with s2u2 yet
its just ur device... plus u gotta no which one is best for u..
Cloudyfa 's Shadow_TE 2.1 WM6.1 is a stable ROM.
i had use it for about 4 months
Don't know. It could be a personal problem...
I went back to my well known K's Rom and the problems was still there. Now I'm sure that it is related to extended rom, that from time to time and without reason get automatically erased.
I have flash a well know oficial At&T Rom, as adviced by one of the best cookers here, then install again K's Rom final, and the problem disapeared for two days, but it is here again...
Does somebody know If I can flash just a oficial Extended Rom (instead of the full oficial AT&T Rom) or format the extended Storage with some program (pocket mechanic or some other like it)?. I'm a little tired of repeating the configuration proccess...
Thanks
I have flashed again the official At&t rom, as adviced by Dr. Puthingan, and then the K's Final Rom to nothing.
The problem still there.
When I was installing an App to the Extended_Rom the intallation hangs, and after reset all the contens of Extended Rom have dissapeared.
I found only a FilesToBeDeleted folder winth garbage inside (look at screenshoot)
Hey,
I was in the same situation as you were in a couple of months ago...
I've always wanted to tinker around with WM6.1 but I too also found the Ext.Rom to be unstable...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2228473&postcount=703
I always found myself flashing back to the reliable Shamanix Ultimate 2.0 Final.
Finally, I tried this ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=406111
And, It's been surprisingly stable and no Ext.ROM to deal with.
Again, before installation, you'll have to follow Dr. P's instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1990320&postcount=6
Hope this helps

You might want to try the official dopod rom then back whichever 6.1 you want. I found mine was better after doing that.
Hopefully the problems is solved....
I reinstall the At&T, as adviced by Dr. Puttinghan, hard-spl 7, and then the Faria/Dr. Puttinghan Clean Rom.
Now, all is working without issues..

HD 2 Calendar

where i can get calendar like this?
its look cool..
Any of the beta Manila 2.5 ROM's e.g. Miri v10, Dutty R5, EnergyROM, etc over here.
HD 2 calendar
how do i know what type of rom i'm using?
there is any software that i can installed without changing my rom? because i'm prefer to use current rom and not changing it which it not cause any trouble to me yet..
HD 2 calendar
1 more question, what actually they mean by rom?
i'm new user, quite not familiar with the word.
ROM stands for read only memory. Basically your phone will have come with the Stock ROM (Windows 6.1) but its like a basic version. Now because HTC and the phone companies like Orange, O2 etc are not that forthcoming with updates etc due to new phones being constantly announced, there are some really clever people on here who have taken either Windows 6.1 or the newer 6.5 and made if you will, custom ROM's.
I was quite confused as to how to update to these new ROM's with their being so many of them but its an easy process once you get the hang of it. I have tried about 3 different 6.5 Roms, and at the moment have gone back to Dutty's 3.9 XT which is a 6.1 rom.
Windows Mobile is so customizable, and thats what these Chefs (Rom creators) are doing. Check out the ROM's from Dutty, Miri, NRG etc they have all done fantastic jobs.
Hope this helps.

what spl, and how to change the rom to something else:

ok, thanks. i will look foward for it. does the new rom give any trouble to you?
can you post me a picture of your calendar and home picture?
1 more thing, please give me address to Miri Rev 10 Rom, so i can go direct to it without any doubt. i'm afraid i go to wrong rom.

Well I don't have any troubles but there is always some bugs since most of the roms are not stable yet since (as far as I know) neither windows mobile 6.5 or htc sense is completed. When they're updated rom cooks update their roms also so when you start flashing you might want to flash new one when cooks release it, but you don't have to of course. But I started flashing roms one day after I bought my Blackstone.
The screenshots are from NRGZ28's energy rom photon with manila 2.5. I haven't use Miri's rom but I can suggest you NRGZ28's.
Also you'll need to read Dummies guide: flashing 1.56+ roms [v 2.0] carefully. Good luck and have fun with new roms

if only the calendar could be incorporated into Manila 2.1 *sigh*

Hi..
I have never flashed my Touch HD with any roms before, so i was wondering would i lose my operator details with O2 if i did flash with a new rom.. I would be grateful if someone could help me
Thanks

Just bought a Touch Pro 2 and some rom questions...

Hi,
I jumped from an Xda IIi -> E-Ten G500 -> 2x P3300's (lcd broken inside) -> HD Touch Pro2
Nice phone, hope it will serve for 10 years or more :-D
Some questions : i'm new in the TouchPro2 section, i would like to ask you all :
1> What's the fastest rom at the moment?
2> What's the best looking ?
3> What's the fastest & best looking combination (medium rom, not lite nor full)
4> Is rom flashing easier than with the P3300 (is there "nouspl" stuff needed? or problems with 64bit versions, had to flash on my friends 32bit pc)
5> I just flashed the latest radio and worked directly! Did not need anything like nouspl
Cause I heard the 6.5 rom is way slower on this device than previous 6.1.
Thanks!
Cheers,
Innovator
Best rom is stock 6.5
Honestly ive been flashing roms for about four months without finding 1 perfect yet they all have flass the best i found is Energyrom Pheonix2 the best looking is Energyrom Leo however I have had issues with dropped calls, landscape mode not working, and freezing. Not to mention every time he revises his rom you need to re-flash and sut your phone up all over again so i decided it was too much of a hassle and i went with the new tmo stock rom and i turned off that htc sense crap and and i just tricked out my ms titanium screen

I agree. NRG's roms are quite fast, especially the latest one, but i had been having issues with his others i moved to a stock eu rom, which i liked because of the general stability. Now i'm using Timor v0.9 and i like it. Stock look and feel but generally fast, with stock stability. All in all it depends on what you want. Pretty much just flash away and see.
Generally, threads about which ROM is best are locked, because there are too many ROMs and everyone has different preferences. I, for example, like EnergyROM Leo 21885, but someone else might like the Cell Pro series or the Valkyrie series of ROMs. It's really personal preference, and the best thing you can do is flash all of them and decide what you like best. It may seem daunting, but it's the only real way, though it helps to look at people's signatures where they often post their ROM.
As for your other questions, I've never owned a P3300, but flashing a ROM on the Rhodium is very easy. First, you put HardSPL on your device, which is a modified bootloader which doesn't enforce signature checking on ROMs, allowing you to flash a custom ROM. Then, there are a few ways you can flash, using your SD card or your PC with CustomRUU (64 bit does work, I can confirm). You can find the full instructions on how to flash a ROM and install HardSPL here.
My Faves
Here is a list of my personal favorites that I have tried and would recommend to any one who wants to flash.
WM6.5 Josh's PerfectBlack 1.7-FINAL!, Sense 2.1
This ones light and fast. and stable I must say. Three versions to this. I prefer the LIGHT.
WM6.5.5 AthineOS 23518, Sense 2.5
I have to agree this really is the fastest and smoothest when it comes to Sense 2.5
Jackos Hybrid ROM (V4) WM6.1 21048 + Sense 2.1
I am currently latched on to Jackos Hybrid. Works pretty much the same way as any WM 6.5 ROM with Sense, well at least for me. Meets all my requirements and I have to say it is the fastest with the most amount of free memory with Sense.
Not a very big fan of Energy ROMS as they tend to use up a lot of memory, but are smooth and fast too.
Finally the choice is up to you.
Cheers.
