my room mates phones does this cool little feature to where the ringtone they have set to the person calling will also play if they text, so im wondering if theres a way to do this with the dash?
I believe this can be achieved by going into the Contacts data on the phone.
Navigate to the contact, then click on them, then edit their info. Inside there there should be options for pix and for custom tones.
I am not positive though, I don't have my phone around me right now.
just checked and no.
i want a different text tone for my contacts, not just one for when they call

This is how you do it, but the contact must be saved onto your phone. Also, if you put a whole length mp3 for someones text message tone, the whole song will play.
There's an app called Ringo that does it. Google it.

Hi,
Maybe i'm missing something. How do I disable the caller ID from saying the callers name (simply not loud enough), and just set it to the ringer tone I orginally had? I ran a search and came up with 1000 hits . I know there is a simple solution but maybe i'm just blind.
Update: I don't know what is going on now. I managed to get the ringtones to work, but the call ID girls talks at the same time.
What do you mean by that ?
Do you mean to PhotoContacts that can choose ringtone per contacts?
or MS voicecommand ?
MS voice command has nothing to do with it. I mean when a caller calls me, the default ringtone (set to oldring.wma) and the girl's voice telling me who the caller is and where, come on at the same time. I want to disable the girl's vioce altogether leaving me with only the default ringtone.
What I find mysterious is that I have two versions of Caller ID's in the /Windows directory, IA-P_Contacts.exe version 1.17 (build 16895) and PhotoContacts.exe Caller ID version 1.20 (build 17975). When I customize the setting on either version and a person calls me, I can see both custom animated images pop up. As well as the girl's vioce and the ringtone I assigned to a caller.
As of now, I don't know how to turn off the girl's vioce and I have no idea why two custom animated images are showing in the pop up when a caller calls.
I think both IA_contacts and Photocontacts are thesame program but in different version.
If you want to disable one ,you can do it by delete it from \Windows\Startup.
Firstly ,this is an easy way to stop this problem.
In my suggestion, IA_contacts is older version and it cannot assign ringtone per contacts. If you need to use only default ringtone ,you should pick its.
But in Photocontacts which is newer version ,You can assign ringtone per contacts.
Secondly, in your Ext Rom, It may have Two version of CallerID.
To eliminate this problem, You need to edit your Ext ROM and remove one of this.

Thanks for the tips tumtum. This is what I entually ended up doing. More or less per your instructions.
* In Call ID Options (old version), I disabled/ unticked all the available boxes.
* Disabled/ Removed IA_Caller_ID.lnk from the /startup folder
-- reset --
Results: pop up with no images, caller ID girls still there, default ringtone is audable.
This is what I wanted, but is there a way to remove the Caller ID voice girl? The reason why I want to do this is that it the voice and the ringtone cancels each other out in most cases.
PS. It seams that when you go into the Caller ID options, without changing anything, the pop up doesn't want to show anymore and the ringtone isn't audable anymore as well. But the Caller ID girl is still there. It takes a reset to get the functions back.
Man do I want to break up with her. The sooner, the better. :x

I can do something better. I recorded it with my Sony Ericsson T610. The trick was to convert the amr file to mp3 format because I don't know whether or not you have a player that plays amr files.
When you play it, you will notice a girl telling you who is calling, according to your phone book, and at what number. I want to remove the girl talking.

That's sound like "Microsoft Voice Command".
Because I had used it before.
I'm pretty sure that's MS voice command.

I need you to check something
At Start > Setting > Personal, Do you have voicecammand icon?
If yes ,you can set it by clicking it.
And set option at Phone to Disable speaking the name of Contacts who calling.

OMG! You are so right tumtum 8) . I just didn't realize it was a simple solution. It has been a while since I registered and installed my copy of MSVC and I didn't bother to check the command settings.Man, I sure appreciate your feedbacks on this. You have made a freind for life.
Now, to get back my old setting again. Glad I made a Sprite backup everytime I installed a cab file . If there is any way I can be of service, hollar at me.
Best regards..
Glad to hear that.
I can do as best as I can do. Because We are friends.

I am a user who likes to keep track of everything that ever happens. I struggle keeping all my texts (I wish I could back them up on the computer in a viewable archivable form - but that's another request).
Is there any way to automatically record all calls that are made? This would be a great help. I have the current recorder, but it's not realistic to have to manually record every call.
Thanks guys
Try ACR. I use it currently, I am not the writer, but I found it on here somewhere. It is fairly easy to configure, and it can store the calls to the sd card.
One thing i really like is the fact that the file name for the recorded calls is the date and time of the call, along with the caller-id information.

I use Microsoft's My Phone service to keep my texts. Not as cool as when I had used Jeyo's Mobile Extender to back up all texts into Outlook but a heck of a lot more reliable.
As a journalist I use Vito Audio Notes - the touch version - which has an option to auto record all telephone calls. Really, really helpful if you want to play back a phone interview!
i use Vito Audio Notes too, works well.
I also use ACR and it work like a charm.

Thank you, I will try this soon.
Resco Audio Recorder for Pocket PC (v4.62)
Resco Audio Recorder for Pocket PC (v4.62)
This doesn't have anything to do with recording calls but keeping your sms in order, you might want to give google voice a try, if you set it up it'll keep all your sms in your gmail account as well as like 1000 other great features.

I'm not sure if it requires an invite, but if you're interested in trying it out shoot me a pm and i'll send you one.
All,
Can you please tell me of a software where I can make different call profiles/groups on my phone like in Nokia phones, where I can define different profiles/groups with contacts and set up call priorities?
For example: I make a profile/group for family and when I activate it only the contacts under that group can call me. If any of the contacts outside that profile call me my phone wont ring or beep.
Is there any such software out there ???

None that I can think of as that would require alot of different permissions from different apps. I know you dont want a temp one, IT was just my way of explaining what you want. you want to be able to Blacklist (so to speak) all other calls except for the ones in the group that you define.

oh Sorry that I misunderstood ... Well lets just wait and see if anyone else replies with some other idea or maybe if someone else knows of any such software.
Thanx though man ... appreciate the help ...
First of all Good Day to all.
The reason I'm here is out of frustration. I have read this site for a long time, but never joined. I'm coming here because there are a lot of very knowledgeable people that may have the answer that I have been looking for and up until now can not find.
I NEED an app that seems to be impossible to find, at lease for me. What I need is an app that will allow a selected group of people to call AND text with notifications without other notifications sounding. I want a "set it forget it" app that once set it will do this automatically every night.
The Note 4 has a "Blocking mode" which would be perfect if it would allow both SMS notifications and call notifications to come through for a selected group of people without having to check all notifications to come through.
I have sons that seem to never call and only text when checking in. I set my phone to go silent at around 12 and come back on at 6am. With this, calls will come through for my favorites but in order for text sounds to come through I have to allow all sounds to come through which defeats the silent mode.
Is there such a thing? Is this impossible to do? Am I doing something wrong in settings?
Can you please advise? Thanking you in advance.
Google tasker block calls and text. It may work for you. Did a quick read and some had made profiles that of you weren't in contacts it would block them, or send to voice mail... hope that helps

I needed something to allow text and calls through not block them. I wanted a simple app that I could set a time to turn off all sounds at night and then turn them back on in the morning. In this time frame I wanted to allow a group of people to be able to either text or call me and it would ring, blocking all others contacts and notifications. There is a ton of apps that will allow calls to come through but not too many that will allow both calls and text to come through.
I just downloaded an app and I will give it a try. It's called. CritiCall Pro. This isn't an all inclusive app so I will use it with the "Blocking mode" that is installed in the Note 4.
Thank you for taking the time to answer my question.
Try the app Do Not Disturb from playstore. It lets you control messages and phone calls during quiet hours and any other time of the day that you choose. There is a trial version and paid version.
Try automateit. It's not specifically for this but you can set triggers to silent certain numbers or silent all numbers except the ones you want to go through.
Maybe blacklist is the one for you

I just downloaded this and it looks like just what I wanted. How I missed this is beyond me since I have been looking for months. Thank you so much. Now crossing my fingers that it works as describes.

Call blocker... native to the Note 4... will do what I think you want it to do. You can turn off sounds for a specified time, yet allow specified callers to call or text and have the notification sound work.

Yep. Native blocking will do it. No need for third party app.
Good luck...

The Note 4 native app is great if I only wanted to allow/block calls, I want it to be able to allow text and calls from a group and in order to do that I have to a not block notifications and by doing that it allows all notifications to chime through email, calendar etc. If they would separate notifications and text alerts there would be no problem.
So far the "Do not Disturb" app is doing what I need it to. It allows both Text and Calls to come through from a group without all the other notifications that I don't want. I will continue to see if this works out without any hiccups.
I found a way to get the caller's name to be spoken -- but I guess there is no built-in way to get this to happen for a text message? I would be nice to know who is texting without having to look at my phone.

I found a way, but it's not built-in and I think you'll need root.
I installed 'text to speech' from the play store, typed in 'messge from .........' saved all the names I wanted and transfered them to system/media/audio/notifications/sound theme/calm (root needed?)
Then chose their name as the ringtone, works in whatsapp aswell.
i did something somewhat related as well. i went into a text to speech website and created both a ringtone and an sms tone for specific contacts only. so say if i'm driving and the sound comes "liam calling" or รค message tone of "sms from liam", that will be from my son which i need to address as it might be urgent. but if the generic tone "sms" or my usual ringtone comes up, i don't address it right away. i went one step further for the other notifications. i created ones for teams, messenger, office email etc.. so say when the tone "front door" sounds, this is the camera in front detecting a person.
