Best ebook reader?

Hi,
I used mobipocket in my kaiser, but now in tilt2 is nos so comfortable to use due to the lack of keys. Does anyone recommend any ebook reader. It has to be:
* fast
* able to read different formats
* well integrated to tilt2 low amount of buttons
* able to remeber where you were reading when you close the app
* have dictionary lookup
Thanks a lot in advanced!!!!
I've found Freda to be excellent. However it doesn't read many formats - reads ebub, but you can convert other formats using Calibri.

Ebooks help?

Does anyone know how to get books that you can read on your android? What book readers are best to use etc? Where can I download books off the net for use of reading on the dhd? I particularly want Jonathan strouds the amulet of samarkand (the bartimaeous trilogy) thanks in advance

Hi! i'm definitely no authority on the matter, but here's my experience so far:
firstly you'll have to get an ebook reader, If I remember correctly there's one already on the phone made by HTC (though I may have downloaded it from the market myself) it's just called Reader, and comes with a few books built in (Alice's Adventures in Wonderland etc.). I believe it's meant to be more of a portal to an online store where you can purchase more books. I've not tried it myself yet, but have heard you can add ebooks of a certain format (epub I believe) into a folder on your SD card (you have to name the folder Digital Editions if I remember correctly) and it'll find them and add them to your collection.
I also understand that there is an Android version of Amazon's Kindle software, but have no experience with it. It looks to be available here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/feature.html/ref=red_lnd_shrt_url?ie=UTF8&docId=1000423873
The other ebook reader I have downloaded (from the market) seems to have a good reputation is Aldiko. Again this comes with a couple of books built in, and again you can import your own epubs.
both seem quite usable.
When it comes to ebooks the seem to come in many formats - .lit, .epub, .html and .pdf to name the few that I know. These can be DRM protected, to prevent piracy / sharing. Also there is software available to create your own or convert one format to the other, I recently used Calibre on my PC which seemed to work well.
As to where you can get hold of the books, there is obviously the official channels - using the stores in Aldiko, Reader, or the Kindle app (I'm sure there are many more). Then there is the shadier, less legal way - if you wish to go down this route I would advise you to be careful and that google is your friend.
Good choice with the Jonathan Stroud books, they're great fun.
I hope that helps,
Good luck,
Grim.
For ya books, get aldiko then have a look at this website, www.drinkmalk.com, the Johnathan Stroud books you are after are on there, this is not a pirate books website

I have loads of books in pdf and txt formats, any readers that support them? Adobe Reader ofcourse for pdf, but it,s not as user friendly as the readers...
Yeah, I like Aldiko too. Although I originally wanted something as nice looking as the iPhone app. I intend to have an ebook reader section or page when I get around to it on that site and an Android User Interface section.
If anyone recommends any - I'll add them to the pages.
Official Aldiko link.

I agree. The best Adobe Reader experience I had (as far as perfect scrolling was concerned) was with Windows Mobile 6.1. (WM 6.5 wasn't as good for some reason on my ROM/phone at the time.)
Even on the Desire HD, the Adobe Reader experience seems low par.
I too would be interested in a better and especially smoother Android .pdf reader.
.Epub
Make the following folder on your HTC Desire HD: Digital Editions.
Make sure your Ebook files are .epub format.
Place the .epub files in the Digital Editions folder and after that you'll find them on your bookshelf of your Reader from HTC.
That simple
The thing I don't like about aldiko is that even if you set the margins to 0, you still have the side margins in portrait mode, whereas with fbreader and moon+ reader you can have books full screen

Superb that did the trick

Best reading experience I ever had was iSilo. I used that on my palmpilot IIIc up through my winmo Touch HD.
Nowadays, everything seems to come in .epub format. Best readers I've found are fbReader or moon+reader. I prefer fbReader due to it not using resources/battery if you tell it not to use the accelerometers (which moon+ stills seems to use and drain battery doing so), even though moon+ is a nicer reader (and has a library which doesn't crash).
There's also an iSilo for android, but I just don't use it anymore.
There's also a great chm reader (just search for chm in the market).
As for pdf's ... exPDF wins by a MILE. Adobe just sucks for pdf's, on any platform (which is stupid, as it's their format to start with! They just can't make a half decent reader, let alone a reader worth using).
As for where to get your books: Project Gutenberg, BEan Books and any other place which publishes pdf's, epubs or pdbs.
Fbreader and Feedbooks a winning combination in my book (pun intended)
Good news for anyone wanting to read books in PDF format! Aldiko just released an update that added support for PDF, works extremely well! The whole app also got a lot better! I've been waiting for this!

Google Currents as Google Reader replacement

I was hoping to use Currents as a replacement for Reader on the GN but it seems Currents is not designed to read aggregations of RSS streams, it only lets you read streams from a single source at a time, unlike reader which lets you read streams that combines all the sources you are subscribed to. Has anyone able to figure out a way to get Currents to combine multiple streams into a single list to read? Or is this just not possible in Currents?
Personally, choosing one source at a time to read articles from is exactly why I much prefer Currents over Reader. I never really got into Google Reader but I love the design of Google Currents and use it all the time.
Not possible. Currents is a Flipboard style app. Turns RSS feeds into a magazine style reading. So you select a feed and you read the stuff.
If you want to combine stuff, use TAPTU. Awesome RSS reading. You can combine any feeds you want into a custom feed. I have an Android feed and in it are like 8 RSS feeds of various Android sitrs.

Google Currents can read feeds, but it wasn't designed for that. Google has a vision attached with it: Digital publication (magazine, newspaper etc) delivery which is beyond normal feed reading! See the differences:
Feed publishers don't have control of content display in end app, but Currents publishers do have. They can divide their currents in sections, sub-sections. They can decide the layout of this digital magazine etc. Its not just nice looking magazine interface.. its more than that. Feedly, which sync with Google Reader, also provides magazine interface, but its not really a magazine. Think about your real-world magazine reading experience.
Currents can be premium. Current publishers can charge you which is not possible with Google Reader. While there's a concept of premium feeds (which is rare), Google Reader can only subscribe it. But, Google Currents can be marketplace for that.
Google Currents can't replace Google Reader because its different thing. If you don't have special interest in those hand-created digital publications, go for Google Reader. You can use it on web, Windows, Mac, Ubuntu etc along with tablets and smartphones (all in sync for read/unread status, starred items). You can have thousands of interface choices thanks to Google Reader API. And yes, you can always mix feeds in Google Reader to create your own feed DJ (which is not possible with Google Currents).

[Q] Which .EPUB Reader

Google Play Books and Aldiko are available for .EPUB files
Which reader do you prefer or use, even if none of the two
Moon Reader the best
FBReader!
What does FBReader or Moon offer beyond the Google Books app ?
I just use Google books since it leaves everything in the cloud, works across all devices.
Haven't found anything better than Moon Reader.
Aldiko
UB reader
Mantano isn't bad either. But moon reader is the best
Aldiko Book Reader
FB Reader.
Sent from my LG-V500 using xda premium
Mantano is a good visual, show page numbers, but the principal problem is that this app import books to internal memory 1 Mb/book. Another inconvenience is the lack of synchronisation with drive ou Dropbox.
Moonreader isn't visually attractive, don't show page numbers but have the option to import books to external sdcard and synchronisation with drive or Dropbox.

Default PDF reader

Hi, within Samsung email on my Galaxy s 20 ultra I choose Adobe Acrobat reader for Samsung to be my default PDF reader. It doesn't seem to hold as a setting. I'm able to choose drive PDF another apps and they will set as default but for some reason Adobe reader will not. I also tried doing this from within Gmail and could not set reader as a default. I could set other apps as the default for pdfs. Any ideas?
Thank you
If it doesn't work, just use another one. Install a PDF reader from the Play Store then open a PDF file, you will be prompted to choose an app to open the file (in case you have one more app that can do that). Select the reader of your choice and check the box to make it your default app.
A few apps I can recommend from the Play Store are, Cam Scanner, DocuSign, Librera, MiXplorer Silver, but there are so many more good ones. You can make any of these your default PDF reader, so just choose the one you like the most.
