on screen qwerty keyboard... - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

ppl who have the tilt 2 or touch pro 2.... how is the on screen keyboard? is it big enough to type on? ppl were saying that the pure's keyboard was too small to type on. so what is ur feedback on the on screen keyboard...

Having had the phone for about a week now, its pretty easy to do a quick message.
responds very well to fingerpresses, i rarely mis a key stroke...

really? thats awesome. thanks for ur input! another thing... do u have to have the keyboard out to have it on landscape or does the accelerometer kick in when u turn it?? i would love to have that feature to use it on landscape without pulling out the keyboard...

To echo the above the on-screen keyboard is pretty nice and easy to use. I miss having a ctrl key, but that's my only gripe. As for the landscape, I think it depends on what ROM & Manilla version you're using, but you can easily install a little app called Gyrator that does it for you.

Use Gyrator 2 to enable g sensor for rotation in all apps of your choosing. You can also enable it in TF3D.

post the best onscreen keypads for artemis

hey guys..
i was watching a Television Ad on blackberry storm recently..
was very impressed with the onscreen keypad for the storm.
i would love to have such a soft keypad for my artemis as well.
i am sure our artemis fans will love it as well..
so if any one has any links or even the cab files..
please upload it here in this thread..
thanks
What is wrong the diamond keypad available for our phones? It sports the same modes as the blackberry one, keypad, small qwerty and full qwerty.

diamond's keypads are awesome to look . . but bb storm's keypad in horizontal version looks very good.. coves 3/4th of the screen and will show what we are typing.. its transperent as well..
Why is this diamond keypad not working in my Artemis touch 4.02? Full QWERTY is not working? How can I make it work, please?
Did you install a language pack? It doesnt work without one for me.
do us a favour..
can u please paste the working cab files or even the links to the exact cab files to be installed to have the qwerty black diamond keyboard which works on artemis
thanks
Just go to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=426281

I used the BB storm, its a horrible device. There is an innovation for feedback, so you have to PRESS and not TOUCH the screen for clicks, although focus does shift with simple TOUCH of the screen. Now its fine for menus and all, and maybe even dialing. However, its a pain to type, you have to retract your thumb away from the screen to depress it before you can press the other thumb on the other location. Comparing it to BB Bold, E90, or HTC Fuze, the storm is horrible for typing nothing beats a physical, and the camera shows a blank screen about 2-3 seconds before it can show a preview of the image which is SLOW, there is no WIFI in the Storm as well. So I think install Seven mail (community) for free and avoid the blackberry storm.

on screen keyboard vs keypad

Hey,
What are you thoughs on using onscreen vs querty keyboard? I want to use phone more for internet/msn/emails so lots of typing
Any opinons are good but best if you have actually used both so can compair!
There are alot of phones i possibly like better but all have onscreen, do u get use to it? can u type as fast? dose having the screen free while typeing made a diff?
Cheers!
i dont like on screen keypad. i write things very very faster on the qwerty keypad. so if you write long e-mails for example the qwerty keypad is realy helpfull!

Yes, i agree, i like using the keyboard as well. much quicker then the on screen one. I always type the wrong words on it. The only down side is that I have slide it in and out too often. If you don't mind sliding you keyboard out a lot, especially during messaging. Then you will fine. Sometimes I couldn't be bothered and just use the on screen option. The good thing is, you have the option to do so.

Physical QWERTY wins out for me every time, simply because of the tactile and ergonomic feedback that physical keys give you. The onscreen keypad is fine if you have small fingers and can get accurate very quickly without having to 'feel' for keys.
If I'm writing anything of significance then I always used the QWERTY. But if it's just a quick reply to a text like "ok", "see you there" etc then I use the on screen. I like having the choice.
i use the hardware keyboard all the time. Also keeps my screen tidy, as i don't have to wipe all the fingerprints from it
My last phone was the htc p3300 and it had an internal keyboard.
The internal keyboard on this phone is nothing like my old phone - making it virtually useless.
i use internal keyboard for an sms like "ok" or so... but for a larger message I always use a physical keyboard! bless it!
the screen is ok when you get used to it.
the problem comes when the top protective layer comes away from the touch sensitive screen beneath and you have the gap...
I'm pretty sure you'll all get it after a while - I don't think this will be just my problem
you got me confused with the title, I thought u were comparing on screen QWERTY keyboard and on screen KEYPAD
One of the main reasons I got TP2 is the phyical QWERTY keyboard, if not, i would go to D2 instead
I use the hardware keyboard until it starts going crazy on me, like pressing Fn+? doesn't produce the question mark or it types CAP letters without CAPS on, then I switch to the software keyboard (works like on the iPhone) until the next reboot and the cycle begins again.

D Pad Software

Hi Guys,
Ithink everyone would be up for this!
is there any exisiting software that could create a onscreen dpad for the TPs -right where the onscreen keyboard button is would be perfect for landscape use of the phone...
im not clever enough to code anything like it.. is this sort of thing possible ?
That would be great.
The default keyboard has directional arrows similar to an on screen d pad. I wonder if that can be used to start with?
Yeah is does, would be nice to have something that just took up a small amount of space on screen!
I miss the rotating wheel on the tytn II as well! used to use that loads!
BUT - the TP2 is alot better overall..

Modifying keyboard keys?

Hi all,
I love my phone but I've come across an annoyance that I would like to fix. My thumbs are retarded and I constantly hit the period key instead of the spacebar. Does anybody know of any other keyboard or a way to adjust the size of individual keys? I'd like to make the spacebar wider and period key smaller, or get rid of the voice button and move the period key to the otherside of the spacebar. And yes, I have tried to adjust the way I type with it and re-calibrate the screen as well.
Thanks in advance.
I had the same problem. You can change keyboards. I'm currently using the Droid2 multitouch and I'm pretty happy with it once I got used to it. I think you'll probably need to be rooted but I'm not sure on that. Just look around and find other keyboards that are ported to the Incredible.

[Q] Home button sensitivity -> spacebar :(

Is there any way to reduce the sensitivity of the home button?
I cant compose a single email without accidentally hitting the damn thing, which is getting very frustrating.
I'm in the same boat... without the swipe capability, typing would be tough...I might reroute the home action to a different key.

Urgh! I might try a swipe keyboard and see if that helps, because this is driving me nuts.
Previous phones had physical home buttons, so never had the problem before.
I have resorted to typing in landscape mode, but that cuts off the message thread in email/sms/whatsapp, and the labels in most web forms.
I am suprised there are not more people reporting this issue.

Having even come from phones with soft home keys, this is an issue for me, as well...You're not alone :good:
If space bar and home button are too close together, possibly adjusting keyboard height may help. Go to Apps/Settings/Language & Input/ASUS Keyboard/Preferences/Adjust keyboard height. Also ASUS Keyboard has a feature like swype. To do this just enable 'trace input' in the same path as above.

Setting the keyboard height to the higher setting helped a little. Still definitely an issue. Basically my only issue with this fone... I've KIND OF gotten used to it, but it still happens daily.. just not as bad as before..

I rarely run into this problem using the Google keyboard since there is a row of quarter inch of space between the bottom edge of the space bar and home key.

Oh thank { deity }!
Yes that makes all the difference.
Adjusting the ASUS keyboard height may well have the same effect, but i'll stick with Google Keyboard for now.
It annoyed me and I adjusted SwiftKey height and now no issue.

Haha, I'm just using an Xposed module to remap the homekey to a double-tap gesture. I really like the stock keyboard.

How did you do that? Care to share? The lack of a physical home key and hitting home by mistake while typing is the thing stopping me from buying this phone. I have the same problem on my Asus Fonepad 7
If you have xposed, activating the soft nav keys (via GravityboxLP) is a good way to avoid this frustrating problem. You can also set expanded desktop mode so that you can then hide the soft keys at will.
There was also a flashable zip to enable softkeys in the Themes & Apps Section
