Hi I am after some help as i am new to unlocking and have a problem which I am not sure if it is something I have missed.
I have an old O2 XDA Mini S (Think that the HTC Wizard????) that I have unlocked using the lokiwiz2b then after this did not seem to work properly tried the 3a version.
The phone seems to be unlocked as I can put my tesco sim in it now and it is accepted but I can't seem to find the tesco's network (which is based on the O2 one). The phone can find O2 and Vodafone in the area but i cannot make calls on either but the Tesco network does not seem to be seen or known of by the phone? I can't even find it to select it manually?
Does anybody have any idea of how to select the Tesco's network or with tesco using the O2 network does anybody know if the phone should show as connected to O2 or tesco's on the screen? As the actual tescos phone which came with the sim shows Tescos on screen so i am assuming that the XDA with a tesco sim should show the same?
Any help greatly appreciated as I like my old XDA and if I could get it working with the Tescos sim it would be fantastic....

I bought my 02 xda or Wallaby in the UK and it ran beautifully using 02 as the phone network provider.
Now I live in Australia and I can't access the local OPTUS intel provider as the phone keeps asking me for a SIM Lock (unlock code) which I don;t have.
Can anyone help me overome this problem?
Thank you in advance.

I would like to purchase T-mobile MDA-3 for use in the USA and Europe. Can I just put in my US simcard and will it work or does it need to be unlocked? What should I look out for? ANy suggestions would gratly be appreciated?
Most come unlocked. I just recived my MDA III, it was T-Mobile branded when I recived it. Came in a German T-Mobile Box, but my ROM was English. I bought mine through Tiger-Direct.
Do you mind if I ask how much you paid for it? Also, will my current T-Mobile sim drop in and work?
The MDA3 is quad band so you should be able to use it anywhere in the world! So long as you have roaming set up on your sim you should be fine!
Not so sure about the locking though!
I am using it in the US
I have an iMate PDA2K in the US and it works just fine. T-Mobile gets a bit confused when you call tech support and their system can't automatically recognize your device, but I just tell them that I have one of their HP Windows Mobile models that they sell in the US and they seem cool with it. All I did was swap in my SIM card and it started working right away. GPRS, etc all works fine.

I bought an orbit on Tuesday, and I'm using my Orange Sim in it until my number gets ported, so my handset is unlocked.

I have an orbit from an o2 shop. I also have my Orange sim in it untill my number gets ported. Therefore - I'd say they're unlocked!
My experience is that all O2 phones have been network-unlocked. Certainly the last 6 I have had were.

I would like to differ.. The XDA2i I had was locked to O2. I bought a XDA Exec in July. That is unlocked out of the box.. Seeing the discussion on the thread, it seems that O2 have adapted a strategy of leaving their phones unlocked for some reason..
Mine was open on all networks as I am using my T-mobile sim in it!
Playing around with a spare Virgin Mobile simcard with O2 sourced phones:
Orbit unlocked
XDA2i locked
Exec unlocked
Mini S unlocked
iPaq 6915 unlocked
Nokia 6280 unlocked
Motorola Razr unlocked
Well I've put a Virgin SIM in mine straight out of the box from O2 and it works so it's definitely unlocked. The only problem is that it says T-Mobile on the screen for network - odd!
^^They all do that sir
IME unless the phone is Virgin branded it will display T-Mobile (who Virgin lease their virtual network from).
Hi. I have just purchased a "brand new sim-free unbranded" HTC Desire, however, when I inserted my o2 sim card and switched the device on I got a message that a different sim card was being used. I also had to select between three carriers being o2 contract, o2 payasyougo and Tesco Mobile.
Basically, my question is how can I check that my device definitely is sim-free and unbranded and not previously locked to a network?
Sorry if I am being vague or not supplying enough information. I otherwise love the phone and still trying to figure it out haha.
Many thanks
Scott
Your phone is working so its unlocked and it was just setting up your gprs settings
Don't know why anyone would pay out for a sin free phone. Because almost all pda phones you can unlock for free and debrand them as well

Unlock for free!?
I'd love to know how you network unlock the Desire for free?!! I've failed miserably despite buying a code.
I bought an HTC Desire HD recently from the UK and it was sim free.
I live in Japan and I am a regular Softbank user with a different phone currently. I went to the softbank store today to get my old sim card changed over to the smart phone sim card, the guy said it would cost $25 to change to the smart phone sim.
But when he put it in to test it didnt get any network connection at all in my new Desire HD.
He did a check on the phone and he said it was because the phone is not from in Japan and that the Japanese sim cards at softbank are locked.
Is there any way to get my new UK Desire HD to work on Softbank Japan?
Can someone please help? Thank you.
The phone is already rooted and has Radio-off and S-off done. Don't know if that helps.
Anybody have any insite?
Please.
Hi samusx.
did you manage to get it to work?
I'm going to japan in a few weeks, and would like to use my dhd with a softbank SIM.
I had the same problem with my SE X10 before, but I thought it was something else.
I can't imagine a provider locking their sim cards to their phone? Is that even possible?
