Is it advisable to leave the location service to "ON?" As opposed to 911 only like it comes default. I use google maps and I need to set the location service to on. But I usually turn it off to "911 only" after I use google maps. What happens to the battery usage if I just leave it set to "ON?" does it drain more juice? Does it matter?

I am having the hardest time figuring out how to create a profile for a certain task.
All i want to do is have Wifi turn on when im home. So when i reach a certain GPS location, i want Wifi to automatically be enabled. When enabling Wifi manually, it auto enables Wifi calling so you can see how this would be beneficial. I have no service in my apartment :\
Can someone tell me the steps to creating that type of profile or better yet, send me the profile XML??
Use State > Cell-Near function
I have been experimenting with this feature using the Cell Towers. You will need a pair per location - one to turn WIFI on and one to turn WIFI off.
Add a new Profile and select State. Then select Cell Near and click the Scan button to find which Cell Towers are near your current location. Check the Invert button. Add a Task to for WIFI and set to Off.
Duplicate this profile and uncheck Invert and set WIFI to On.
Confirm Cell Tower IDs
You can confirm the Cell Tower ID by downloading one of these free Apps:
Antennas
Cell Tower Locator
You will want to use the BSID number listed in one of these Apps in Tasker for Cell Near.
in the settings i see that i can set my gps location manually? I am norwegian and i think it says "Allow simulated location" in english, and when i use apps like maps it is waay off when i am inside my house and wondered if i could set it manually where i am, for example i want to make a location where my house is on facebook using locations and then it must be over my house and not 1 km away

Can someone please explain to me in details what's the effect of the "Enable power efficiency" setting in the phone please?. i.e. does it turn off wifi or background data? and if so how often then it turns itself on to update data etc..
I am still really confused
I think it moniters your batt ,when it drops under a certain % it auto shuts down those features which cause heavy drain ie wifi mobile network bluetooth and auto sync ,just gives you a little extra time if your not in a place were you can recharge.

As it self says, it will stop the auto sync for the applications like facebook, mail, google, HTC sense etc. when you are on device 3G mobile network. It has nothing to do with your wi-fi settings. Rather than using Auto Sync on your Mobile 3G network you can alternatively use "sync now" option in Widgetsoid app or plan when do you want to sync your data.

So what's the difference with me turning off "Background data" manually?? If this is the case, this function is pretty much redundant.
its only automatic function. You can set which will be disabled when battery run low. you can fint it in options.
From what I observe at least with Desire HD & the recent 2.3.5 update, this option also affects the way device uses WiFi.
I do not know what exactly are the gradations of shudown for wifi physical or higher levels protocols, but apparently with this option enabled wifi is not so much "instant on" as it is without this option -- if the device is kept off ~10 (approx.) minutes and then switched "on", wifi connection appears only after some time.
Also (I guess as a result of the above), I observe that the device with this option enabled (being switched "off", e.g. during the night), brings up cellular data connection every ~40 minutes or so, I guess to service some data needs (this correlates with com.google.process.gapps activity). Apparently that's because it sees that wifi is really "off", and thinks it's more economic to use cellular data. I would say that average current draw does not change much due to that -- normal "always on" wifi does not take much power anyway.
I think I remember an app it was called Tasker. Where it ( I believe ) used your location to set certain settings. True? If thats the case, couldn't I set it to change my internet to 3g when I get to work and wifi turn on when I get home? If it does use your location wouldnt that use more battery? Or is a simple toggle the best? Id like an automatic option if possible.
Battery usage depends on how it detects your location. GPS would me the most accurate and use the midst battery. Network is only accurate to a couple miles/km, but uses less battery. I use what cell tower I am connected to wish is more accurate than location, used less battery but can be less reliable as there can often be several towers you connect to, took me a few days to set them all. Also, if towers get upgraded, that can throw things off until you update your settings. I also had problems with wifi calling as that disconnects you from towers all together.
But yes, tasker is awesome.
Tasker and Locale do this, and much much more. Looking to just change networks, other apps like Juice Defender will do it too.
They of course will drain some battery because they need to use GPS and be running in the background to properly work. Of course you could choose to use network location but you won't get as good of performance as far as specific location services.

When I turn off "Use wireless networks" in location services, I can't get a GPS lock. However, if i disable wifi, I get a GPS lock. Is it normal? I'm on Zettajoule+ if that matters.
