chad, you already asked this noob question in another thread you needlessly started. This is BASIC and has been covered a million times. Please do not waste space with a post like this. Read the wiki or do a search (google is your friend- "your search" site:xda-developers.com)
Maybe it should be good to start new sticky thread in this section with common WM6 upgrade problems for ignorant noobs that do not read wiki...
But I do not know if they would be reading it...It is so much easier to just start a thread and wait.

eh, I say forget the noobs. Ignore their topics or link them to the wiki.
noobs need to learn to READ on their own.

thanks i found it before..
it seems like everyone on here is dicks when you ask something.. do you not remeber asking when you first started doing ****. I COULD NOT FIND IT IN THE WIKI..
so maybe you should start a thread and pin it.. of if you upg your device heres simple fix's liek cab to fix keyboard layout adn cab to fix media net settings that way we dont have to goto pocketpcaddict where they have all the stuff thats frequent for noobs to ask for giving us direct links to the crap on here that yall are too busy to reply with instead of a smart ass remark.. honestly in the tiem it took yall to say **** you could have posted the link that the 1st poster posted and left just like he did!!!

Actually I searched the WIKI and found this... I also posted the necessary cab in the other thread you started where you asked for help.
For someone with 6 posts to their name I'd be careful of who I called a ****... that is if I ever expected to not be treated as a ****.
on the top of what Dr Puttingham said there is one more location in the wiki where you can find it - right on the first place here. Do not blame us for your inability to search for information - that is basic skill for everyone online. And yes your question is being asked every two weeks on average...

ok well im not "blaming you for my inability to search for information"
im simply asking someone for help with something that i couldnt find anything on. imagine how youd feel if you just did something to your phone and couldnt find what happened and why its doing something its not suppoused to. you would be asking people too whats there to do if you couldn't find what was out to fix it.
all im saying instead of saying H0LY FUXZ0RZ R34D TEH WIKI JEW FUKN N00BZ
post the actual section its in and say this is in the wiki in this section so we can click on it and see it in the wiki
I'm sure the poor grammar, spelling and lack of punctuation had no bearing on the lack of search results. I've found an answer to every question I've had without having to be spoon fed every step of the way.

Total noob question here

Hey guys sorry to be a total noob but we all have to start somewhere. I have preordered the evo from RS and this will be my first smart phone. I really have no exp with aps or what these phones can do.
I guess what I am wondering is what is rooting and why is it useful.
Thanks again in advance. I apologize for my ignorance on this topic.
great post for the Q&A section.
someone will correct my terminology, but "root" gives the user access to the base level of the system files so that they can be modified by the user and allow us to do things like flash custom roms and tweak settings, and much more.
This goes into the Q & A section not the devlopment section!
People thinking before hitting the post button!
sorry bout that
Sorry I thought I was in the Q&A section my mistake sorry will repost there.

well, welcome to the fold. Rooting an android device will allow you to use certain programs that will allow you to make backup images (in case something happens to your phone you can restore it to how it was), and run costumed ROMS (new flavors of Android usually taken from bits and pieces of other devices to make one super device lol ) I'm sure I'm missing other things but that's the main part, you will also be able to do functions of your phone *cough* tethering *cough* that are usually disabled by default.
Thread moved to Q&A.
lol @ this thread for fun

Virtuous 3.1

anyone with this rom installed...........what radio are you using ??? i'm using 2.15.00.07.28 from when i had skyraider installed, but do i need to update for the virtuous rom ??
thanks
#1 - stop posting questions in the wrong forum.
#2 - search for answers first, almost every question you have asked has already been asked. You would easily be able to find the answer if you would use the search button.
#3 - If you are asking a question about the rom, don't you think a good idea would be to post it in the thread for the rom?
Having said that, no you do not need to update, but you do need to learn how to search.

ok sorry !!
No need to be sorry, you aren't the first and def won't be the last. But that search button can be your best friend 95% of the time... (the other 5% you will want to beat the button down lol)

#1 You waste just as much space as he does trying to be the self appointed savior of question space saving LOL
#2 If you dont have an answer then shut up and dont write MY GOD LOL
#3 Let the moderators do their job and stop a posting that is in the wrong section.
#4 and most of all LOL GROW UP there are much more important things in life then a question posed in the wrong area LOL

Dislike or Thumbs Down to Posts

Ok, awesome for the thanks feature. Thanks to that.
But, if we could also get a feature on the other end of that stick, that would be really great I think. A dislike, or thumbs down on posts that are just useless to the topic, then be able to set in your USERCP, any posts with -3 or more get auto minimized (clicking a + would open the post).
It seems more now a days than back in the day, there are more 'noob's on this site than ever. And they just cant seem to read. Or care to read. Or know how to read, the english language. So, they spam DEVELOPER threads, with 'does this woK?' 'eta on xxx' 'how to install this'....when, its ALL in the OP! Constantly, do I respond back with READ THE OP! Like they should be doing. + The stickies with tons of good guides in them.
So, I know the dislike/thumbs down wouldnt resolve this problem completely. But, it would help clear a huge thread (some with 1k+ posts) down so some of us that 'arent' noobs can go in and actually see comments relating to ROM, not the installation, or partition sizes (non-rom relation).
I understand, this could be abused. I really hope it wouldnt be. But, youtube uses a similar feature, like/dislike, and still use it. I am just throwing this out there, because a great thread (HERE if curious) is being BASHED with TONS of stupid questions. And damn, its very aggravating to see people not read, and im not even the dev...
Tried not making this a rant post. Just trying to see if there is 'some' solution to this 'on-going' problem (not JUST that thread, every thread has repeat questions). And maybe if people start seeing -10 on their posts or -50, they will know they are doing something wrong. Instead of me replying, wasting space I will hit the dislike instead .
Thanks for reading.

Should be in the About XDA-Developers section, and if you had read there it's already been suggested and a beta was implemented in a GNex thread. This isn't HD2 related though so I'm reporting this thread to be moved
Oh and yes, that thread is being completely messed up by noobs.
EDIT: Lol posted this before your edit
Yeah, I understand the logistics of a forum, just wierd xda posted it in the other page I had open I guess (had hd2 forum open in seperate tab). I really dont know what happened.
Anyway
Ok so looking back 3 pages I found this topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1547887
I looked 2 pages, I guess shame on me for not looking further. But in anycase, it doesnt appear to be in the gnex threads anymore. So, just trying to get more support for them to bring it back I guess, hopefully in full scale. It would really help I think.
There was an experiment of this in the galaxy nexus forums... I believe it will now be improved based on what we found from that test

You will get rid of image as soon as you get enough valuable post.. and see my sign and read the 2 threads once.. it will help you a lot to become good member.. and don't create threads just for this.. do some reading of sticky threads in this section..
