Set tones - HTC Excalibur

Hi, I would like to know how do I put a sound that I have on my Memory Stick as a tone when I receive a msg?? I just can see the option to set it as ringtone... Also, when I go to the profile and I edit it e.g. Normal, just defaul tones appears, how do I make all the songs I have on the memory get to that part????
Cheers!

Changing the text message tone

Is there anyone out there who can tell me how to (if possible) I can change the text message tone on the MDA Vario. I cannot stand it at the moment. Am I stuck with it for life?
go to start - settings - sounds and notifications - notifications and then choose the tone you want to change from the drop down bar... that should do the trick... *p.s. if you put mp3files on your storagecard, but not in a folder, just in the main folder, they'll appear in the list as well..

I think text message tone only use wav files. Ringtone can use mp3 files.
sorry my fault...
adding wav files for messages etc, they need to go in windows dir/folder.
mp3's for ringtones etc can go on the storage card root or storage card My Documents folder...

Contact Pictures?

I have recently upgraded to WM6.1 (kavanna's) and i have put the rinku iconbar on it and the weather sliding panels, kinoma freeplayer and all teh other prgrams that i have seen that work well. Love the ROM, great work to all, but i just have one question.
How do i get pictures and ringtones for my contacts because right now all i have is the number and name listed and i don't have an option for selecting a ringtone or assinging a picture to them. I have been searching throught the threads for 2 days and the most i can find is little info about a program called RINGO and photo...somethin pro and there wasn't much postive feedback about either.
Please help
Thanks
6.1 same as 6
start - contacts - edit
custom ringtones will need to be on main memory if I'm not mistaken
scroll down to select pics or set custom ringtone

Custom ringtones can also be on the root of storage card.
The contact you wish to add these too has to be in the phone mem not sim
You probably don't see the options for pictures and ringtones because the contacts are stord on the SIM. Move them to the phone memory and it will open up those options.
thanks i had them all on my sim card didn't realize i had to move them back to access those options Thanks again

does anyone know the folder structure for making sure, if i store sounds on the storage card, that any alerts are purely for short sounds, and custom rintones selects a folder full of just my ringtones?
meaning:
Custom Ringtones -------> ring tone only folder on storage card
Custom Alerts ------> short sounds only folder on storage card
??? i thought i had it right but my custom ringtones options (all ringtones on the storage card are stored under storage card/my ringtones) ALWAYS brings up all my short sounds too (which are stored in storagecard/my documents).
all my alerts options bring up short sounds only.

Custom Sounds' Folders Question/Help Please

does anyone know the folder structure for making sure, if i store sounds on the storage card, that any alerts are purely for short sounds, and custom rintones selects a folder full of just my ringtones?
meaning:
Custom Ringtones -------> ring tone only (no short sounds) folder on storage card (Storage Card/My Ringtones)
Custom Alerts ------> short sounds only (no rintones) folder on storage card (Storage Card/???)
Custom Alarms --------> ringtones and alarm sounds (Stoage Card/???)
??? i thought i had it right but my custom ringtones options (all ringtones on the storage card are stored under storage card/my ringtones) ALWAYS brings up all my short sounds too (which are stored in storagecard/my documents).
all my alerts options bring up short sounds only. which is ok for the windows alerts, but when i click my top clock sliding panel for alarms, all the alarms sounds that i can pick are just whats in my Storage Card/My Documents folder.
does anyone kind of have this going on their phone in the same way im trying to describe??
.....
lol at myself for that last statement haha
thanks
You should be able to drop everything in the My Ringtone folder on SC. When you are picking the sound clip in Sounds, I think it filters it by extension.

if it filters by extension which extensions are fo rwhich types of files
i.e.
ringtones = .mp3
alerts = .wav
alarms = .???
i searched in this forum and the closest answer i found was a senior member advising creation of a my ringtones folder on storage card. i tried it and it worked fine till i figured i wanted to ge tmore detailed with filtering.
not possible
Unless you rename the wav's
alarm_ding_sing.wav
SMS_ding_sing.wav
In the list it will group them
They should not show up in for being applied to a rington.

Another way would be just put 01. infront of alarms 02. Ringtones 03. alert
Then they will stay in an order.
eg.
01. alarm horn
01. alarm bell

HTC Desire Notification Tone/Sound

Does anybody know if you can allocate your own tone (from sd card etc) to alert you of a new SMS etc....Thanks
There are applications on the AndroidMarket that allow you to do this.
The one I use (alongside ChompSMS) is called "Tone Picker", which lets you use Mp3s as ringtones.
Enjoy!
To do it without any extra programs, create the following folders on the SD card:
/media/audio/ringtones
/media/audio/notifications
/media/audio/alarms
The phone will look in these folders when you pick a new one.
Cheers Rusty !!! Spot On....Thanx

You don't need the media/audio path, so just
/ringtones
/notifications
/alarms
will do

you can chop mp3 to ring tones on the desire with the inbuilt app, from the music player hit the menu button, select set as ring tone, you then get a menu pop up and select trim ring tone, once you have it trimmed you can copy it to the notification as above.

add ring tone

Hi All,
This is a really simple one.
Can I paste a ring tone or an alert (mp3) into the phone or SD card memory and then select it?
I tried but the phone doesn't find the file - where do I need to put it?
Cheers.
Create a folder called ringtones and it should then pick it up
What about alert?
people say to create a folder called media on your sd card with sub folders called ringtones, alarms, etc so you can do that
