I've searched the whole forum but didn't find anything that helps.
Every WM6.5 build I've tried has the same problem, they all minimize instead of closing apps.
Does anyone know if it's possible to close apps with x-button at all or is MS holding that function until 6.5 is done?
\m/
I thought that was a standard setting in task manager?
HTC Task manager does this for WM 6.5 if it is set to do so. If you have the drop down icon on the today screen where the "X" should be, click it & than click on settings. This doesn't work if you are using a 6.5.1 Build though. I believe from what I read Showcase Task manager does though.
Hi
It works well in all versions of WIN 6.5 along with Pbar, WKTASK etc.
But in newer versions of WM6.5 like 23053/ 2047 wher the start menu and buttons are placed in lower bar, these task manager fail along with HTC taskmanager.
Pbar somehow with double tapping closes the program, but confusion because of zoom top bar is still there. Unles these taskmanagers are updated to close the progs from lower bar, the problem is here to stay.
PLEASE use search. This topic has been discussed to death! MS never has and never will include app closing with X button. They have a built in memory management system that closes apps when memory is needed. All X button apps are 3rd party and will not work with 6.5.1. You can use the task manager or similar app to close your apps.

Didn't I write that I already tried searching the forums but didn't find anything conclusive?
I appreciate the info, but the tone in your reply was unnecessary.

Yup there is nothing conclusive for the newer 6.5 builds. Use showcase older version, and it should close just fine by tapping on the left upper corner.

There actually is plenty conclusive, including quotes from the MS developement team. This topic is discussed in the main release thread in the Development and Hacking forum, in my ROM thread, and on MANY threads on XDA and other sites.
Don't tell me there is nothing conclusive. There is nothing inconclusive about this topic other than people not understanding how WinMo works and not reading about the sole workaround solution (Showcase) or a task manager like the built in WM one. This is one of the most asked and least searched about question of WM 6.5.1. If you search and read you will see everything I stated in the first page of a google search.
READ!
Anyhow, I am now unsubscribing from this thread, so you won't have to be annoyed by me anymore.
Wow, what an A¤&¤%#&%hole..
The first google hit brought me back here...

I could not find any threads about PocketCM, although that seems very strange to me so I must be missing them.
Until then, here are my few questions:
1. Can i add, or is there a version with, an x button in it? I can't close the app without taskmanager.
2. When writing a text, even if i have the keyboard out, the SIP automatically pops up when i start writing. Can i disable this?
Thanks.
I noticed pocketcm threads at development and hacking...maybe some luck there:

You should also try his website at www.pocketcm.com. As for the x-button, the latest version has it, and in that version you can also select "No SIP" which will solve your second problem.

Awesome thanks for the quick help guys.
Haha i knew there was a thread somewhere.
Better get my eyesight checked
I found this Contact Manager just today while I was browsing online.
http://pocketcm.com/index.php
It works great on my 8525 and is all touch activated, kind of resembles the iphone. Works nicely. There is also a keyboard program that copies the iphone as well.
Just thought I would share with the community.

I like it also, but I find it difficult to scroll precisely. Sometimes it goes 10 contacts ahead, sometimes 100!
And it is a litte difficult to really close it.
The keyboard I really like.
There are big threads running in the General section.

Sorry I didn't really know where to post it. I guess I should have put it there.
What I figured out is that if you want to close it, you just hit the hang up button and then it closes like with any other program really. And if you want it to scroll slower you just move your finger slower. I've been playing around with it all night and seems to be working out. Remember this is just a BETA version of it. So it has a lot of potential and it moves pretty fast.
There are threads already for it. Please research a bit before posting, Please read rules before posting http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=221545

Easy way to close it is to take it out of fullscreen mode. Then you can hit the x-button to close it like any other program.
thanks!
I just want to say big ups to all of you guys. I just recently completed some customizations on my (once boring) 8525. The pocket cm is wonderful and the pocketcm keyboard is a nice touch. I do have one question.
It seems that i cannot send sms' directly from pocket cm. Is there a way that you can sms your contacts directly from the pocket cm?
Thanks
just have to press and hold the send button in pocket cm for like a 2 second count and it sends.

PocketCM it's great, but about keyboard I think that "touchpal" it's better.
link for touchpal is http://www.cootek.com/intro.html
I would like to assign device lock on windows 6.1 to one of the buttons on my Hermes...is this possible?, Where can I find the sctivating program within the file system or is it built into the o/s and unaccessible?
Hopefully somebody can help me with this!
Before you say...I know there are many 3rd party locks like s2u2 that are excellent but i just need to save memory wherever possible and dont want device lock on the screen!
Thanks in advance
I used that program a while ago:

tried a search first but like i said, I dont want 3rd party software but to use the existing windows device lock and asign it to a hardware key.
How else can I get a hearing ear without a new thread but still no result!
Three things ive noticed since updating to the new Tilt 2 official Rom. Every time the device starts up, the "Backlight and Power" SETTINGS screen loads, as i said, every time the device starts up. Its pointless, undesired, annoying, and has done that from the start.
*(2) On the SMS tab of the new "HTC SENSE" (newer version of touchflo pretty much) whenever you get a new SMS and go over to the SMS tab, the newest message isnt ever at the top of the list (waiting for you right in front of your face) on the previous official ROM the newest SMS was always placed/focused right at top of the list for you to see instantly. Not the case with this new ROM, you have to scroll through your old messages, to the very top to read the new SMS, instead of it being right there.
*(3) Why the heck did they get rid of the task manager in the upper right corner next to the clock? Are you kidding? That was just too easy to terminate programs, and switch focus to them if youd like. They got rid of it!? Ridiculous.
Tweaks of any kind are welcome and appreciated, im sure by a few people. I am an advanced user so i would understand. If anyone else thinks of gripes with the new ROM please post here!

Try this. i have not tried it yet so i cant tell you if it works but people have said it works on tp2 w/ sense!
Thank you, i will definitely check that out. i appreciate the helpful input, instead of being told where and how to post like a lot of other people seem to like to do. I sincerely appreciate your time and efforts. Looks like a good suggestion by just checking out the screenshots.
There's already several threads going regarding this ROM in the ROM Development forum (where this belonged and has been moved to). Had you taken a moment to look you could have found them and posted your drivel in one of them instead of having yet another thread on the same subject scattered around the forums. Your Task Manager gripe is among the most well-known and easiest to fix as a cab is posted in those other threads for it. Forums have certain etiquette that members are expected to abide by and not searching and starting superfluous threads will make others call you out on it. I was not rude to you in any way.
not sure why you posted the same question.
in two different sub-forums.

I think it`s very useful to show other stuff instead of recent apps only. I can adjust brightness and sound volumn on an ipad. any suggested apps for customizing the home key behaviour?
Install a decent launcher like LauncherPro then you can have it open whatever you want.
Not long-press, it's a core OS function.
@theOP: you may not be able to change the function of a long-press like iOS but, unlike iOS, you can change the function of a short-press, so it kinda evens out.
google should have open it to other apps for replacing or adding new stuff, just like the home screen....
Hi,
I dont like opening older posts, but better than post another new one...
So I undestood, that a home long-press is not possible to redirect as another button (e.g. Search) or to execute some bash scripts?
I am still looking for some task switcher on hw button dependend and with posibility to call it from everywhere (all tas managers using search button, which is not present on X10i). Currently I am using PreHome with home doubleclick, but it is not so good as long press could be...
Or - one question - is it possible to redirect long press on Back button? I Know, that on Camera is this possible...

I think what XperienceD want to say, he like the idea of opening old threads instead of opening new threads...If everyone did that we would not have 500 thousand "my battery is at 0%" threads.
Hi I`d like to reopen this topis
Tomorow I found, that Cyanogenmod ROM`s are able to do this natively!
Anyone using any of these ROM?
I am trying to find out what is this button menu related to migrate this function
