Hi folks
I've been using WM devices for some years now but I've never gotten into the upgrading side of the operating system. I recently got a TP2 on T-mobile and I'm wanting to jazz it up a lil with fresher icons etc. Can anyone reccomend any good upgrades/updates that are easy to install?
Many thanks!!
Do a search on this TP2 forum and you'll find a lot of upgrades for the icons
Go to the Rhodium apps, themes, software, etc sub forum & search. lots of stuff there. also the PPCGeeks forum has a lot of themese
look up HDwall. you can use it to make background cab files and slider cab files. the .cab files just make it easy to install. copy to device and run.
try here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=529576
Flash HardSPL and load NRGZ28's Genesis WinMo 6.5 rom. It is fantastic. You won't regret it.
Plus, WinMo 6.5 is MUCH more finger friendly.

I have just upgraded to the new WM6 PDAVIET Rom which is great, but I was wondering if we could try and figure out what the perfect rom would contain. For example TomTom, TCPMP, T9pad, or whatever. I would like to see AEButton plus which I find really opens up a realm of one handed operations.
I am just beginning to learn about rom cooking and maybe some day I'll make my own perfect rom but until then what suggestions do you have for the contents?
I'd say that perfect ROM would contain NOTHING .... meaning no extras, apart from those that are part of WM6 officially and most of HTC Applications .... a clean and mean machine.
The rest we install manually .... each to his/her own likings.
I agree. To me the perfect rom would not only not contain favorite programs and extra today themes but also would be stripped of all the other non-essential stuff like emoticons, templates, ringtones (all but one), empty folders, extra audio files, etc. All that junk could accompany the rom download in a separate folder to be added as one sees fit. In fact, my perfect rom wouldn´t contain ppt.exe, a program I´ve never once used but that takes up whopping 2.59mb.
I think I might be inclined to agree with you, but I like the idea of not having to install anything, I spent hours yesterday messing about, installing stuff copying serials and then fiddling with all the settings, I just got bored and wanted it right quickly.
So is it easy for advanced devs to build a totally clean rom? Is it possible to just package stuff up to only upgrade the ext.rom of a clean rom? so we could just choose rom, radio and ext,rom separately to individual tastes.
To get it PERFECT... make it your OWN!
Hi!
I totally agree, to make it perfect you have to make your own, but how?? I download the ROM kitchen for artemis from this tread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=310076) and it seems quite simple to cook a ROM with default packages, but how do I make my own packages from my favorite apps? Say I want to add Tomtom and Spb Mobile Shell in my ROM, how do I do that?
Regards,
PK
Yes, veeeeery good idea!
I want to do this too but the tutorials for that seem to be hidden really well or non-existent. It really sucks to install all the programs again once you've updated to a new ROM. And I don't want a WWE ROM, I want to use my own language.
If there is a way how to find out where or how to extract .cabs to the right format then it would be possible to include them when building the OS. Maybe we have to start a big thread called "Beginners Tutorial for cooking ROMs". I'm very familiar with my computer and hardware but finding out which program to use for what and which parameters I have to enter takes up a lot of time. A few months ago I tried to install something on a server and finding out how to do this and how the program works took me two weeks, now I can do it in 30 minutes. Now I don't know much more than after those two weeks but I know how to do it faster.
We should work on this too, it's not that there absolute computer-newbies in this forum, they just don't know how to use the tools correctly, including me. But I'm willing to learn and share my knowledge.
Guys i'm looking for clean wwe rom with wm 6.5 and manilla 3d 2.5 .I'm looking for some few day already and I couldn't find one. Please recomend me one . tnks in advance
me too, .
I am also looking for a ROM that isn't loaded with unwanted applications. I have tried four so far and each one has an app that I can't update or remove. I just want to be able to pick what I want and just what I want. So far my searches have come up with nothing, are there any roms either out there or in development that are just the OS and nothing else?
I agree. What I seek is a straight and clean stable build of 6.5 with no frills or HTC customizations.
so , i see i'm the only one who wants to use clean roms. Is there somebody who can cook already cooked rom but without odd programs. Just the programs which are included in original HTC roms and may some with help the devices to work proper with new manila 2.5.
6.5
Hello,
As far as I can see, there are some modern, clean 6.5 builds without HTC customizations, see the forums.
What we are looking for here is a 6.5 build with Manila 2.5 and its associated HTC apps just if It was a recently bought new terminal.
If the HTC pictures seen those days are real, I think they have RTMed with 6.5 builds and not with 6.5.1 buils (see start at the top and thick bottom bar). I think this is more convenient for Manila...
Regards
I think if its possible to make something like categories witch separates different rom types. For example clean, with one kind of nesasary programs and another kind witch are custom made like where are added different themes and additional programs. May be somebody can add a new post where they are discribed and add links to the post where the roms are added. So , if somebody wonders witch one to choose will have them in one place and will not be forced to search several pages.
Many clean ROMs have "CLEAN" in their thread name. So... does it ring any bells? If you search the "Diamond ROM developement" for, um, lets say the phrase "CLEAN 6.5", and check the "search only in title" (or sth like that), it should be enough to find clean 6.5 roms.
As for the manila 2.5, as i know, it's still in developement (which you should know, if you bothered to dedicate 30 minutes to reading the only two threads including "manila 2.5" in their title), and there are ONLY TWO (2) roms with manila 2.5. One is 6.1(Sun.Y) and the other is 6.5(Sun.X).
Oh...and yes..there is a search function on this forum Did i point that out already?
EDIT: Oh...and there is Eugenia rom, which actualy uses work from the Sun project...as far as i know. Correct me if needed..
I'm sure not only me and the others used search and read the forum for nice rom . But the most roms even clean ones have program witch are not useful for some of us and use additional memory. Otherwise I totally agree with you - there is still i think a lot of time until we see proper manilla 2.5 working on our diamonds. cheers
Well. My advice on searching roms is: Look only in the first two or three pages, beacuse those roms are actively updated. When it says [FINAL] in the rom topic title, that's even better. If you are looking for a stable and fast rom, try to avoid BETA releases (altough, some work pretty well). As for ram consumption... 6.1 roms are (from my experience) more ram friendly than 6.5 rom. BUT a 6.5 rom with titanium enabled is more ram efficient than a 6.1 rom with Manila 2.1. Also, big ram consumera are non-WM default dialers. They can take up to 10-12mb of RAM. You can disable them, and enable the default WM dialer (search the threads...it can be done via CAB or AdvancedConfig), but that brings problems while using manila 2.1 (and 2.5 i think). Don't worry too much about "unuseful" preinstalled software on [CLEAN] roms, beacuse well they can take up some space on your phone memory, but usualy don't eat RAM, unless you run them.
I actually don't use CLEAN roms, beacuse i find some medium loaded roms more usefull (see my signature). With my rom i have no problem running IGO8 or listening to mp3(s2p) while surfing the net with opera. And that is while i get around 74% used RAM after a day of usage (62-65% on clean boot). RAM is meant to be used, and don't get frightened if it sometimes jumps up to 80% (a friend of mine has 11mb of free ram on an Ipgone 3g, and that thing still flies...beacuse it actuall uses ram (efficiently!!)).
My 2 cents. I hope it helps you find the right rom.
EDIT: oh, and CleanRam is a pretty useful app... (on level 2 or 3)
thanks a lot for this full answer mate I hope it will be useful not only for me, but for everyone who needs help about looking for new rom.
I've settled for BsB for the moment (the 6.5 variant).
Greetings, diamond users. Yesterday, I joined your company, and bought HTC 3700.
So, have some questions now:
1. Which radio firmware is most stable on Diamond? Are those x-peria ones better than natives?
2. Is there a reason to install WM6.5 instead of 6.1? I succesfully SPL-ed my diamond, and filled it with 6.1 by Korand, it seems to be ok. But, maybe 6.5 is much more reliable, what do you think?
Sorry for creepy english.

1) It's a question of personal choice... Try some out, see which one feels best.
2) Some people like the UI changes in 6.5, some people don't. Try it out, see what you like.
In general, we don't know what you like, so read threads see what people say about a ROM/Radio, download a few you like the look of, flash them, and see what you like!
I like scrolling better in 6.5 it is much more smoother.
it feels like iPhones scrolling (sorry for cursing )
hehe iPhone scrolling, but yeah it's true, i think that windows 6.5.1 is much more finger friendly than windows 6.1
but still it's a personal choice
i really like the interface of 6.5 (chome / titanium)
but i change rom every week so.. xD
The best ROM I have found so far was DIB Diamond 1.33. The reason for this is that it had EVERYTHING a complete N00b like me needed. e.g. the apps to change registry, customise other menus, the colour changes, and other little bits n pieces to keep me playing on the journey home or when I was bored. But now, i'm looking for speed and plain ROMs so that I can customise to what I would like.
Good luck playing and having fun customising
Hello EveryOne!
I'm here since some weeks now, to look, try and improve everything. This, in order to build a final version of my HTC Blackstone in perfect accordance with my demands.
I mean:
Look, Speed, DailyUse, No Freeze, No Bugs, whatever the program I use. And I won, got the perfect one!
Please see here under:
A) Look:
Screens are in attachment...
Well it is sober, but that's what I like. My Htc BlackStone looks what it is: a BlackStone.
Sometimes, when I see what people ask here to developpers, I laugh and think: "Oh Gosh! Why don't they ask for a washmachine in their cell-phone too?".
B) Rom WM 6.1 Manila 2.1, and Radio:
The ROM is - HTC_Touch_HD_MR_2009_RUU_BlackStone_HTC_FRA_1.56.406.1
and the Radio - Radio_52.62.25.34_1.13.25.24
Why these ROM and Radio? Because they are the official of HTC, much easier for me to customize than some beautiful cooked I found and tried here, as Miri's, Dutty's, KWbr's or Panoshka's.
I tried other official versions, and I honestly don't see a meaningful difference, except that some added programs couldn't work properly.
I think the most simple it is, the best it works... So, even if mixing WN 6.1 with Sense 2.5, or WM 6.5 with Manila 2.1 works, the result seem to me too complicate. As well, making deep changes increase risk of instability, bugs, especially by adding other third party programs.
In fact, if you are developper yourself, you know what you do, then you can fix problems. But if you're not, then it's better to stay on one's level, without pretention or arrogance, and just try to customize with simple things...
C) Added programs, (IN THIS ORDER, laughing!):
01-BS_Rilphone_1_13_25_24.cab
02-NETCFv35.wm.armv4i.cab
03-Tnyynt SD TuneUP.cab
04-IPC_Black_Calculator.cab
05-Black Dialer EN.cab
06-Whiteglow Transparant Clock.cab
07-Glass icons.cab
08-Dutty's NoTopCurtain.cab
09-Diamond_TF3D_Config_Setup.cab
10-HD Tweak 0.5.4_French.cab
11-Celogeek_tweak_20080808.cab
12-mUn background4allpages.cab
13-HushSMS-v0.6beta.CAB
14-ACR Version 1.2.4.CAB
15-Express News 1.0.39.cab
16-DeluxeMoon.cab
17-BattLog0.2.3.130.zip
18-CorePlayer v1.3.6 Build-7427 for PPC.cab
All those programs can be found on the site, except for item 15-Express News and 18-Core player, I found on the websites using "search".
D) My comments:
Well, today, a cellphone can be use for quite everything: as GPS, Radar detector, remote control or...phonecalls!
Mine is fast, stable, safe, and does what I want efficiently:
Phonecalls, contacts, texts, mails, news, websurf, meteo, pictures, movies, music, FM Radio, and the Moon for fun...
I don't need more, and with this config, it is a rocket as fast as the new phones i tried: Iphone4, HTC Desire or Samsung Galaxy S.
I was about to buy a new one of these, to be "up to date", but I don't see the utility anymore!
A good config on a Blackstone is a MUST.
Best regards,
BobbyTrash
Ps: To perfect this look, I was looking for a ".cab" to make Topbar and Bottombar transparent, I didn't found it here. Some cooked ROM do it, perhaps a developper can provide such a cab...
In an other way, a short program allowing to rename and link easely unused tabs, would be useful too, whatever the ROM or kitchen...
mate you haven't cooked a Rom, your just tweeking
Yes, absolutely..
I just did it for people who search for simple customisation, more than for a cook...
I thought it was clear in my post, though! Thanks for your answer.
Bobby
probably should be moved to the themes and apps section
You're right...
How to do that?
Regards,
Bobby
Only mods can move threads
MOD EDIT - Thread moved to Themes & Apps section..........and renamed
do you have opera 10?

does it work in wm6.1? because i asked it here because the rom in this thread is wm6.1
maybe you can ask on that thread, coz im using WM6.5x..
Hello there. I know that WM 6.1 is pretty much dead, but i'm still using it cause 6.5 isn't as fast as 6.1 on Blackstone. I've searched a couple of forums for a decent taskbar, couldn't find something to suit my taste, but instead i found an interesting taskbar for WM 6.5 which fits and works almost perfect, except for the "x" and "ok" buttons which show as a white square, due to the difference between the WM 6.1 and the WM 6.5 OS. If anyone who's a savvy in taskbars could help me and point me in the right direction to edit those 2 files and settings in the cab file in order to replace them with the default ones or any other files, i'd appreciate it. Below i attached 2 screenshots of the taskbar to see what i'm talking about. Thanks
P.S. Modified it. No further assistance needed.

...c`mon man....some basic info....what did you found (name, where, link)...if you succeeded in modding - how, and you might also share...!!!...like so many people here on xda...there are a lot of us using 6.1-you are right about the speed...cheers
Someone from another forum modified it for me. I posted the taskbar for wm 6.1 in Windows mobile themes section. Here's the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1086646
