Hi, is there a way to force Internet Explorer to show normal internet sites, instead of automatically forwarding to a mobile version? for example, www.google.com goes to www.google.com/m
I presume this is something to do with Internet Explorer, rather than the network.
Cheers
It's to do with the site. Your browser forwards information about itself to the site, some sites have code to detect this and offer a mobile version.
The way to stop it is to make sure the browser doesn't forward this information, something that's likely very hard to do with pocket IE (if it's possible at all).
mmm... yeh i did wonder if it worked like that... oh well!
opera is able to identity itself as a desktop browser, try that :_)
ok cool. Thanks
Is it the Opera Mini (Java) ??
-edit- THIS PROGRAM IS AMAZING!
Hi,
No, he is talking abot the Opera v.8.65 for PPC where you can set the Browser to send another browser identification to the requested site. But you can use Sktools as well to change the identification of the internet explorer.

Ok thanks
I used the registry hack to do that but I wouldn't recommend you to use Pocket IE for viewing the desktop versions. Use Opera, Minimo (awfully slow!) or Picsel browser. Picsel Browser is the best but can't be downloaded really 100% legally since it is owned by Samsung and is licensed for Samsung phones. If you don't care then you'll have a very nice browser.
hello.
i have htc s630 and the IE goes very slowly and sometimes i have to do soft riset for it.
i want to install opera mini but the device doesnt let me do it and show an error.
i installed opera mobile[8.65]and its shows the webs not nice and it very old.
my question is-if there is a good browser for smartphone?

First why don't you do a search, it would help you a lot.
IE is slow because WM Smartphones can't close running programs directly (they are only minimised), you have to go to task manager and to close a running program. Now when you start IE it will eat like 5Mb of your memory not to mention media player (10Mb). In onther words your device will freeze instantly. To avoid this you need a program called "Oxios CloseApps" a freeware wich will help a lot as it will stop all running programs and retrive lost memory. There is a cab containing that program here at the forum, but to find it you need to do a search so you can develop searching skills.
As for the other problem that you could not install a program read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=432946 - apllication unlock
Cheers
its not the problem..
first,thanks for the advise.
but the slow is not from the ram memory.
its from the open webs
do you know a browser ?
due to many problems with OPERA I want do change de default setting for internet from OPERA to IE. Does any guy knows how to do this on TP2 ???
Rather than mess with registry settings, why not just remove the Internet tab and add a link to IE in the start menu?
Also, Pocket IE is such a piece of crap. I think most would agree. What problems do you have with Opera that can be solved by using IE?

Most links dont open with Opera. IE will work fine - specially links from RSS Hub open with Opera and mostly dont work. So I copy the URL to IE and it will work fine ... (bad workaround)
Is this xda developer forum firefox only?
How cam I cannot load the images correctly if I am using chrome? (Actually IE doesn't work too, but I don't care about IE)
Works fine for me in Chrome. Try reinstalling chrome?
It might be your internet connection, or the speed of your pc.
flyboy
working perfect in Opera too
IE8 works for me.

IE7, 8, Opera & Chrome all working like a charm
Haven't had any issues using either IE, Chrome, Opera or Firefox. Currently using Firefox as IMHO is the best.
Chrome still has compatibility issues with a number of things, but works fine with XDA. Ensure that you haven't blocked images or anything else in your Chrome settings
I've viewed this forum through Chrome, FireFox, IE, Opera, and Safari on both Windows and my Mac and haven't had issues. Ironically enough if I tried to load this forum via WinMo and Opera my phone crashes. But that's WinMo for ya
Opera Mobile 10 final: XDA pages browsing perfect too

Working normally on my Touch2's inbuilt Opera 10.
All my touch pro 2 Roms work fine with XDA
Hey guys, so as far as I know, most people use the Opera browser and that the IE browser is really slow. But I also found the Skyfire browser, but I have also seen mixed reviews on that. On my PC I used Google Chrome (which I love!), anyone know if Google is going to come out with a WinMo browser? (Yeah, I know that they have their own OS but thats not the point). Thanks!

They seem about the same to me. Though I can't get opera to work when on wifi.

Yeah, It used to work great for me about a year ago on my BlackJack II, But over the last year it seems to have been getting slower and slower, and buggier to boot. I thought maybe it would work like a breeze on the tilt2 having a faster processor etc... but seem to be the same old mess. Sometimes it loads up really fast, others it times out, tells me no connection, or just forgets its loading a page. Seems to be pretty hit or miss if people still have a good experience with it.

No, they are not. They only did that for windows desktop to pull people into the google experience on the desktop so they will be more willing to switch to chromium OS. It's the same "marketing" strategy that apple uses when they force safari and quicktime on you when you install itunes. But Google plays nice and doesn't install itself behind your back.
I pretty much just use Opera 9.7. Seems to work as well as anything. If you're looking for something like Skyfire (compressed proxy based browser) Opera Mini works pretty well, standalone version linked.
Opera 9.7 for me too. I prefer the scalable zoom over the 2 fixed zoom levels of Opera 10.
Once in a while, I will use Skyfire. A few sites seem to render better on Skyfire then Opera. But its Opera most of the time for me. Opera seems to be faster, and has a better zoom control.
IE is amazingly slow on my phone.
Skyfire FTW!!!
Opera 10 is working awesomely for me
Opera Mini 5 with the embedded Java package that someone here on XDA put together.
Mini is SO MUCH faster that Opera Mobile. Not even close IMO. It also seems to render most webpages better.
Skyfire is ok, but I tried an older version which was a bit buggy, not sure if their latest releases are better.
If you want to see flash then Skyfire for sure. For other things I use Opera 10.
@ those using Opera 10: anyone successfully got the zoombar working. I thought I read somewhere about people working on this? I find 10 faster but as previously mentioned, control over zoom is needed.
I've been using SkyFire for about 6 months and I have loved it, BUT!!! the past couple days it has been total crap. They say they are fixing it on their forums... We will see... Opera it is for now.

Opera 10 only have 2 zoom levels built-in (no scalable zoom), so the zoombar isn't going to work. I don't believe a hack is possible, since there is nothing there to hack (no scalable zoom to link the zoombar with).
Thanks for all of your opinions. I might try Opera Mini out when I get back home. But ill probably just play it safe for a while, in regards to Skyfire.
opera is a nice browser but it's pretty slow in my opinion. I have yet to try opera mini so I may give it a try. So far my fav is skyfire because it's the fastest that I have ever used. I think MS should just buy skyfire and put it in their windows mobile. It may help them to sell their windows mobile phone>
anyone know if our zoom bar can work with opera mini? One of my problem with skyfire is the zoom bar not working with it.
