Hey all. I've done a few searchs and read through a bunch of ROM threads (god, the dutty ones are full of stupid posts by stupid people), but haven't found any real answers.
How do we disable auto rotate / landscape mode in the new v3 Manila?
Is there any way of getting back the old notifications functionality where you click any of the icons along the top, and it brings up a screen with bigger icons for Notifications/Sound/Connections.
Use the old pop up menus? I am aware there's a tweak to make the 8 item menu into a 10 item. Can that hack be extended to 15 items?

If you use Dutty Extreme, then you had to enable the landscape rotate in the first place! In which case, to turn it off you just uninstall the "Dutty Enable Landscape" cab from "remove programs"

Nope, which is a real shame because the new notifications screen is USELESS! the "new text" is not the only thing that's useful to see! You can, however, disable the new notifications menu by going to the Task Manager (built into Duttys Extreme - sorry I can't help with where in the start menu it is because I've moved everything around to my own taste!) then go to Services and change the Notifications thingy to be "manual"

The thread that tells you how to get to 10 items actually meantions that these settings were just how that person had arrived at something that used the whole screen height perfectly. He explained which values change what and you should be able to adapt that to get whatever height of menu you want!
Hope that helps!

I'm using a different ROM now. I'm using the Lite one to try the speeds and the auto landscape is already cooked in. I was reading Dutty's because his ROM was the first to have it. I searched the thread where I got my ROM, but no one seems to dislike the auto rotate *shrug*. I don't mind it except in bed when I'm on my side.

I've tried that I believe, but doesn't really help. Oh well.

Ok, I guess I'll modify the registry. Was hoping to disable it altogether as I don't find it all that pretty and it's simply bloat. On many apps, the new menus don't fit the theme at all.
Thanks for your helpful suggestions!

In that case, I suggest using AE Button to map one of the volume buttons to "rotate screen", then you can over-ride the auto-rotate on a case by case basis by rotating the screen manually. I've got it set to long press of volume up and down for rotating each way, so if something gets stuck, or as you say I'm lying down, then I can over-ride whichever way I want.

I've tried disabling the auto rotate for all programs, and while it works, it interferes with some other rotation programs. I use kaisoft's screen rotate, and when i rotate something, the orientation gets forced back to portrait a few seconds later.
I've gone back to Dutty's 1.7 ROM as it suits my needs better. I'm finding auto rotation with the new manila has not improved any more since the old gsen/gyrator days when people had tonnes of problems. It's still a hassle controlling what you want rotated.
Thanks
try this which i found somewhere in dutty's thread:
HKCU\Software\HTC\HTCSENSOR\GSensor
Change the autorotation key to 0
this is the only thing changed, i've not tried the above reg.
it stopped the auto-rotation for me and also solved the photo orientation bug while in camera
opera will still rotate
it works!

I've noticed that my phone stays on a little longer at the lock-screen with the occasional icon at the top popping up (it looks like some sort of eye? There's a setting called "Smart stay" in the Display settings, so I assume this is what I am experiencing?
edit:
Guess that doesn't really help much, but it does extend it for quite a while if you can keep eye contact with whatever is tracking your eye motions? XD

Thanks but I don't like smart stay. I used the app called " Screebl", it's way better plus it works on staying on based on the angles your phone is at. I like to read news and sports so I want the screen to stay on until I'm done. Screebl allows you to adjust to the lowest time out setting, but it seems the lock screen shorter than 15 sec. The lock screen time out doesn't seem to be tied to the system timeout

That's pretty neat! Now that you mention it though, I too was unable to keep my screen on longer than around that same time o3o can't imagine why I would need the lockscreen to stay on, but I hope you find a solution d:

Quick question, I have seen a couple of places how to remove the white frames from around the icons.
Should be Settings > Display > Icon frames.
However in my new T-Mobile Note 7, that option is greyed out. I can't click on it to change the settings.
Has anyone else seen this? I would love some assistance.
Thanks in advance!

I think this option only works if you don't have a custom theme applied. If you switch back to the default theme, the option should be available again.
I've noticed the same thing using default thene.

Thanks for the reply. I haven't added a theme. the phone is brand new. I tried clicking on the default theme again just to make sure.
Icon frames is still unavailable.

Maybe just download a frameless icon pack you like.
Having this problem too. Wonder if it's got to do with the system update that got applied on the first day?
Same possibly here. I'm on T-Mobile with default theme. I would like to remove the frame.
I have only been able to change this setting whike in easy mode (which i don't like). It is greyed out for me in standard mode as well.
Ok, I figured it out. I'm using Nova Launcher and Sammy doesn't like that. I changed to touch wiz for my launcher and suddenly Icon frames are available to change.
I changed back to Nova again afterwards, and the change stuck, so it seems to be a reasonable workaround.
Let me know if this works for you.
I don't have a custom launcher but I do have a theme. I deactivated the theme and it worked. I guess the theme locked the borders on. Sucks.
Yeah so I don't think it's launcher specific but rather theme based. Once you apply a theme it seems to lock in whatever the icon choice was. So I went back to default theme (which opened up the option again), changed to icon only, and then applied my theme again. Now it's locked again, but as icon only.
I have no theme and stock launcher and it is still greyed out. Switched to easy mode, made the change and went back and all is well now.

Has anyone had any luck removing the frames and using the Google Now Launcher? I can turn it off in TouchWiz and Easy Mode, but as soon as I switch back to Google Now Launcher they come back and the option to turn them off becomes I unavailable.
I might not mind these damned circles if it was consistent, but it only affects about half the app icons and the other half are normal. It's crazy to look at...
Yeah it seems like the only way to get them to stay TRULY off is to use touchwiz, using the standard them.
I know everyone is saying you can switch to off, then go back to what you were on - and it is "locked in off". I agree that it looks this way in the settings.
However the icons clearly have the frames around them still.
I have stuck with touchwiz for how smooth it is, but I think I am going to give up on it.
Also, the only reason why I say its smooth is because my initial setup was with "good lock" (needed to download an apk for that as it doesn't show up in store) and google now launcher and stuff - but there was a decent amount of choppiness and also the battery was not performing to my expectations. So I did a factory reset (which some people say fixes stuff like this) and sure enough, things got better. Battery better, smoothness better. However I have stuck with normal touchwiz since then... been afraid to change it since everything seems better now lol.
I hear you.
I had to try several different icon themes but i found one (that i like) that doesn't leave borders on the rest of the icons. I think it's some sort of default setting that goes unchanged when custom themes are created.
Trial and error. Good thing the Samsung theme store has a preview option. It reduces a lot of hassle.

Same here. I ended up going back to TouchWiz mostly because I couldn't stand the weird frames on some of the icons. It's not as good as the Google Now launcher, but it's good enough.
I've been searching for this answer for weeks, finally I found it, nearly started to think my device was faulty.
My option is unavailable and I have stock Rom and launcher.
But this option was available but not anymore. Can't understand why???
Hi, I've recently observed a floating screenshot shortcut (not bubble) which annoys me because I normally maybe take 1 screenshot a month only. It is basically useless and when it floats when using my camera it is actually really disturbing. Any suggestions how can I get rid of it? I think I've checked some options, but they do not work.
Sounds like some kind of accessibility setting, but I haven't found it, and haven't seen that myself. Does it come back if you reboot?
uff, yes it did, I wonder for how long.
I'm really ashamed of not remembering the first rule of tech - turn it off and on again
I like to keep things snappy and always set all of the three animation settings to 0,5 from developer settings.I see that the animation speed is resetting to default after a while, then you have to change it back and forth to make it fast(0,5) again... Anyone else?
0,5 works for me fine.
The settings should not change by itself.
That said, why do you need to change these Settings in modern phones? They are too fast already, and animations actually look good.

Yes, but when you are used to the fast animation speeds and snappiness for many years, the normal animation speed looks and feels sooooo slooooww.
The actual setting keeps the same and won't change, but the animation becomes slower. When I tick the animation to anything else and back to 0,5 it is fast again... I notice it when pull down the notification menu.
Maybe a factory reset will fix it.

I too was using 0.5x. Then I asked the same question to myself and switched to default 1x. I'm now used to this default setting and it is quite good.
I've set it to 0.25 via SetEdit. jOnePlus Tools unfortunately can't be installed.
And I also have a feeling this setting doesn't survive long enough.

They are not, difference between 1.0 and 0.5 is a night and day.
Just going into developer menu and going back and seeing the sliding animation duration on 1.0 and on 0.5 feels like it is just slow on default settings.
As always, it is a matter of personal preference.

That was a setting to make your phone feel faster, snappier. Today's phones aren't slow or laggy like before. And the animations look good at the default setting.

No, this was and is setting to adjust various animations durations as per description.
The result is quicker, snappier or slower, more fluent feel in corelation to settings applied but as you point yourself, not for everyone this option is needed.
For you its quick, for me the default animation length is slow and I prefer 0,5 multiplier.
And for everyone else it is a personal choice whichever option suits them best.

I agree. Although I prefer 0.3x multiplier. 1x makes me impatient, particularly managing the notification tray when in a hurry.
Bro I also faced this issue a few weeks ago, no one faced this issue similar to me. Animations were getting reset to 1x after a while. I accidentally noticed - if pocket detection is enabled, and you try to unlock device with upper portion of the phone covered, you get "pocket detection" warning. That's when animations get reset, at least for me that was the trigger point. Check if you have the similar issue and disable pocket detection

I have the pocket detection enabled with 0.3x animations functioning even after reboots. Maybe something is going on with some of your software, guys.
