I have installed probably all of the available (English) roms here. After upgrading to WM6, I was very disappointed that M$ Business Contacts for PPC would not install on WM6. THIS I THOUGHT WAS TOTALLY INSANE!!!! However, I've got good news guys. It installs and works perfectly on all the WM VI BLACK roms. I don't know what is different in the OS to LSVW and XDA etc. Maybe the geniuses in here could figure out, what is taking and will take M$ the next mobile release (WM7) to solve. Then sell the info to those MF M$ over-payed programmers. Keep up the good work.

Considering all WM 6 ROM's out right now aren't "official", I wouldn't worry too much if something doesn't work right on WM 6. They're all hacked and cobbled together from other sources. Until HTC actually puts out an official WM 6 release for the Hermes, you're going to see all sorts of weird things, no matter who creates the ROM.
Remember that WM 6 shouldn't really be used on production or critical phones. It's just out there to play around with right now. It wouldn't be a very good idea to put it on a phone you rely on for business purposes.
dear guys, i know you are the best in upgrading our smartphones, do you know if there is, or soon will be an upgrade to wm6.1 for s620???
tnx
Not yet.. but I think that soon it will come to S620.
We are all waiting for this update
I actually got to play with a Windows Mobile 6.1 Dash but it still seemed to lag a fair amount. Just had a flashier home screen. Everything seemed to be the same. They added Copy and Paste as well.

Oh man that's great news!!! I am excited. At least that confirms that there is a very high chance we will have to upgrade. Hopefully it will become more stable and not have memory leaks.
Thanks Jamerican....
did you check the new PIE how is it, does it have flash???
How about threaded sms like the PPC version has??
i'm actually really curious about wm6.1 too. I know it's out already, so where are the ROMs at? BTW, does anyone have access to HTC's downloads for the S620-621? When I attempted to register my unit with the serial # at their site, it wouldn't let me since it knew it was T-Mo Dash instead.
EDIT: well a quick search on google yielded this interesting result:
http://www.brighthand.com/default.asp?newsID=13800
I guess that's why we're not seeing any wm6.1 devices anytime soon...
even so, here at xda-developers you can see upgrades to 6.1 for some devices, so i guess we´ll just have to wait a little bit, but its going yo be here i´m sure
Google is your friend. Many websites have covered the new WM6.1 features. Basically it comes out to these:
* Threaded SMS - A Chat like function for your SMS Inbox
* Zoom out in Pocket IE - Enables Page overview mode and better navigation
* One Note included in Office Mobile
* Running Programs tab in Settings > Memory replaced to a better Task Manager. (But the previous running programs tab was much simple and easier)
* A new Managed Programs menu
As you can see, no mention of flash incorporation in PIE. Personally, I won't upgrade until it is as fast as the HTC ROM I'm using now. I am, however, really excited about threaded SMS.
wm6.1 does exist for the dash.
Lets put it this way. People have HTC excalibur running wm6.1. 6.1 adds a new home screen, better IE (much better IE), copy & paste, new version of active sync, etc, etc. WM6.1 is also faster. I'm not sure when this will be avaliable to everyone... but it does exist.
Actually I tried it at a M$ event at my school. The lady said it would take at least 10 months for consumers to see it. That does not include carrier customization etc. Pissed me off.

Yup, i'll vouch for this. I have open touch v3 on my wing and love it. Sometimes i like to go out with my dash since its slimmer and wow its like night and day how slow it is. Even with the new HTC rom that was posted...
Am I missing something here? When did the Wing get a system that isnt released yet? I am confused

WM 6.1 is alive and well on the PPC platform. First batch of WM 6.1 Professional ROMs hit the scene about a week and a half ago and I may be wrong about this but I believe the wing (HTC Herald) was the first to get it from our fine chefs here on XDA-DEV. Still waiting on a 6.1 Standard version for our favorite non-touchscreen devices (HTC Excalibur etc)...
Also don't forget that fortunately/unfortunately the touchscreen devices are way more popular than the non-touchscreen devices.
Personally I believe my T-Mobile Dash running the HTC ship rom is way more stable than any other Windows Mobile device I have ever owned, and I've had quite a few as can be seen in my sig.
Thats interesting, I had no idea!
I don't want to waste time flashing my Dash with a cooked 6.0 ROM (HTC ROM) if 6.1 is only a few weeks away. Any estimate from the ROM cookers on a 6.1 release for the Dash?

WM 6.1 for S621, Excalibur?
Official ROM release?
Has anyone managed to get Viigo to run on a 6.5 build?
Cheers

Wondering this myself. I used it on 6.1, and while it seems to install OK on 6.5, it crashes on opening.
Feh...
speaking of things that crash on 6.5: Pocket Navigator 6 & 7.
BUMP......anyone?
BUMP II..... anyone???????????????
Tried installing IE toggle and switched to PIE, no luck (read somewhere this should be the cure)
I MISS MY VIIGO!!!!
why is this in rom development?
this seems to be an application and should be in a different forum.
I love NFSFAN"s roms. He does such great work. I know in his knew v12 manilsa2D exists but, I personally don't care for the 6.5 roms. I'm not a great fan of the start menu system. Along with some other things. I'm starting a bounty with $50.00 to try to convince NFSFAN to update the WM6.1 rom for sprint. Hoping others may feel the same way. Please chime in with a donation, and see if we can get his attention.
Thanks For Looking ..... T M Z
I would be all for it as well. Not a big fan of 6.5 yet. But I think about the only thing that can be updated on 6.1 now is some of the apps. I think there has not been any new 6.1 sys released since the release of NSFAN's last 6.1 roms. I am so used to M2D now that I don't want to switch to a different UI until I get a new phone, and I don't know when that will be.
Exactly, what is there left to do with 6.1? it's a dead end. everything new is with 6.5. why you dont like the start menu is beyond me. the old style start menu is so dumb and is one of the (if not the)number one complaints of WM. 6.5 is where it's at and the future. I'd be tempted to offer a bounty to NOT work on 6.1 anymore as that will stunt the developement and growth of 6.5 and 7 (hopefully very soon).. Most, if not all, the big name chefs have now finalized their 6.1 roms and moved on to 6.5. I would focus your bounty money on working out a custom start menu or whatever to fix what you dont like in 6.5 because it is so far superior to 6.1 it's not funny.
Wow. I hate 6.1 so much that I started using Android exclusively. Can't believe anyone would want a 6.1 ROM let along pay for it. Not trying to be rude. Just saying
I have tried 6.5 for a week and went back to 6.1
Phone was really slow and i find titanium plug-in really useless.
Start menu better in 6.5 then in 6.1 ? Maybe ....i use Quickmenu anyways!
So yea 6.1 rules !!

NFSFANs 6.5 V12 ROM has Manila2D in it. 6.5 is way more finger friendly and has purdy icons too!
If the start menu in 6.5 is so "finger friendly", why do I keep launching applications when I am simply trying to scroll the list? There should be some dead space between the icons in the start menu, IMO. And I still think M2D in 6.5 defeats the purpose of 6.5. Titanium is the new interface with 6.5 and I am not that fond of it. To each his own. This is exactly why there is a thing called variety.
Try reflashing!
If you have problems with WM6.5's scrolling, I strongly suggest flashing the ROM 3 times in a row (wich should be done for any custom ROM to work well, btw).
The scrolling and response of the screen is 100 times better on WM6.5 than on 6.1.
You don't have to use Titanium, you simply take it off the Today screen items and use the built in manilla (touchflo).
The only difference will be that the start menu will have bigger icons (wich is more finger friendly and scrolls just as well as an iPhone) but the interface will look the same as with WM6.1 with manilla 2D. You can even use the reStart app. and organise your start menu just the way you prefer!
You should definitely give it another try! But remember to flash the 6.5 ROM 3 times and also, flash from a original 6.1 ROM and not from a custom one.
Hey guys. I notices i'm starting to get a debate here. That's not why I started this thread. I appreciate some of your guys advice, but believe me I have more than one 6900. One with 6.1 and one with 6.5. I do know the difference between them. The whole reason I started this thread is because my personal prefence is 6.1. I strongly believe there are others who feel the same way I do. I would really appreciate if we could stay on topic here. That is people that want to support and update for the 6.1 sprint rom. I just have to say to all others, if you would like to pm me with other suggestions that's fine, but please don't clog my thread up. I'm hoping toget support from you out there so we might be able to get a 6.1 update. Thanks everyone. T M Z
Sorry if you feel this is polution but the thing is, this thread shouldn't even exist if you understood what we mean:
WM6.5 is the updated WM6.1... They could have called it 6.1b if they wanted to...
Globaly, you should see this as an evolution of Windows Mobile 6. The 6.5 ROM is WM6 and any 6.X ROM is an evolution but is still WM6...
It's like if you told microsoft to keep supporting and improving Windows XP SP1 because you don't like what they did with SP2 or SP3... It is still Windows XP anyways...
Well WM6.5 is still WM6 just like WM6.1 was... You can do exactly the same things as with 6.1, but better.
You can decide not to upgrade to 6.5 if you wish, that is fine , but there is nothing more that can be improved in 6.1. If you want to make your ROM better than the actual 6.1, there is only one option: 6.5.
Once again, the only reason you had a bad experience is from bad installation of the 6.5 ROM. Just try and you'll see! Like my mom said to me: You'll thank me later...
Have you guys read the thread? All those issues with speed and response are solved by flashing to a stock ROM then flashing to NFSFAN's ROM. Ultimately choice is why we are all here so if 6.1 is your cup of tea then knock yourselves out.

And again, your thread makes no sense. Again, what is there to upgrade on 6.1? As has been said, 6.5 IS the update of 6.1. If you don't like the update, then don't do it. Otherwise, make a list of what YOU want 6.5 to be and send that to Microsoft. Either live with 6.1 or go to 6.5, but there will be NO major revisions to 6.1 EVER again. As I said, it's dead and wasting developer time on it is detrimental to the evolution of our WM phones.

I don't see why you guys have to bash him. He wanted to start a thread like this, in the hopes that I update 6.1. I told him that I will update it if it is worth my time, and there is more than just one request.
Neither 6.1 nor 6.5 UI is of interest to me (nor is TF2D) - I layer SPB Shell on top. Given that, I much prefer the stability of 6.1 over 6.5, and would love to see NFSFAN continue to update 6.1 - assuming there are still improvements to be made.
NFSFAN Roms are the best out there!
I mean really is this a community or a mob? Cause I mean, if the guy likes 6.1 better then he does, it's his choice...Personally I love 6.1 more than 6.5 because it's more stable and has a better feel to it
So if you want to bash me as well then go ahead, but I will warn you....you will not like me at the end of it
Winmo6.1 versus 6.5 is not like xp sp1 versus xp sp2.
Winmo 6.0 and 6.1 are like XP
Winmo 6.5 is like Vista
Winmo 7.0 will be like, well Windows 7
Would everyone agree Vista is better than XP??
Yes 6.5 is more finger friendly, personally I like the new start menu, scrolling, and while not the best, the new PIE is a step up as well. I still prefer M2d to titanium and always will. HTC rocks, can't wait for sense or a qvga m2.5.
6.1 was stable, the last Bell 1.31 was ultra fast (dare I say faster than V12???), stable and everything worked. I am not sure if 1.31 has the "latest" or last 6.1 build number but the OS is not always the only part of a ROM. The parts are what makes up the whole. There has since been new versions of RSS, office, adobe, audio manager, camera, and M2D itself. Sure a guy could try and load up all the latest apps after digging all the latest cabs (if available, or cab up the oem's), but a new packaged 6.1 with all the latest updates that 6.5 offers would certainly appeal to some people.
There was a thread in the base Vogue forum called 6.1 or 6.5? Not many people chimed in there. Perhaps all this discussion would be better moved there and we could respect the original posters wishes of having this as a pledge thread only.

I stopped flashing roms after Bell 1.31 just for the exact reason you mentioned. FAST, STABLE AND EVERYTHING WORKED Isn't that all we want? It took NFSFAN a long time of trial and error to reach NIRVANA with 6.1 and it will take a little bit of time to reach that same reliability with 6.5. Until then I will stay with 1.31. I think a lot of people just want the newest 6.5 roms because it is unique and they will sacrifice stability and live with a few things not working yet. I will wait until 6.5 is as reliable as the 1.31 before I flash it.
As for updating 6.1, I can see that it could be tweaked a little but I believe it has reached it limits of perfection.
D.
I'm going to weigh in here too. Like I mentioned in the 6.1 v. 6.5 poll, I stick with 6.1 so I can use my Redfly. I also find the 6.5 interface to be ugly, but like joemike, I use Spb MS3 as my interface. I have used NFSFAN's 6.1 ROM and it worked ok. The bluetooth wouldn't connect with my Redfly and the dialer had serious issues. About half the time I'd go to it, the numbers wouldn't show. The last time it happened was when I was on call and it was 1:30am. The next day I flashed back to the stock Verizon ROM. This is MY phone and MY issues, I don't in any way want to slam what NFSFAN has done! For my purposes, the current 6.1 ROM won't work for me.
Given all that biching ;-) I'd still like to use a custom ROM. My ideal ROM would be very clean, very minimal, fast and stable. I don't want touchflo, manilla, or any "today screen" programs, I use MS3. I'd like the stock bluetooth stack, Office Mobile apps, the CDMA smart dialer, .net 3.5 or 3.7, and that is about it. I don't know anything about cooking ROMs or what makes one fast and stable, but that is where I'd put the emphasis on rather than adding software that gets updated. Since this is my only phone and it needs to be available 24x7 I had to go back to stock, but I'm not done looking for the perfect 6.1 ROM. So far NFSFAN's has come the closest, but I need a couple of tweaks before it will replace the stock version.
However, if I see a new clean 6.1 from NFSFAN, I'll be flashing again ;-)

I beg to differ, vista is horrible.
you can't compare 6.5 to it. haha
Hi All
I made an upgrade yesterday; I previously had the stock HTC rom with Windows Mobile 6.1 & TouchFlo 2.1, and I hard reset, then upgraded to the official HTC Windows Mobile version 6.5.
Are there any other users who prefer the old version? The phone seemed so much smoother before the upgrade, it almost feels as though the hardware isn't up to the job of running the new version. I even preferred the old black and white Touch Flo menu colours, the colour ones don't look as nice. I don't really see any amazing 'must-have' new features on the OS either - as a result, i'll be 'downgrading' my phone, back to the old ROM 1.19.401.1 later today.
I wondered if there are others who feel the same way, or am I just not giving the new OS time to win me over?
Have a good weekend everyone....
LJ
Glad its not just me then...
Same here. I very much prefer WM 6.1. Multitasking on WM 6.5 is a pain and it is slow. Only problem is that I cannot initiate VoiceCommand over Bluetooth on the 6.1 ROM. That is the only reason why I moved to 6.5. And nobody seems to know a cooked 6.1 ROM that enables voicecommand over bluetooth.
Same here. After upgrading, and installing a few programs, I started having stability issues. Nothing serious, but I hadn't noticed that on WM6.1. Also, the battery consumption is higher, the memory consumtion is higher (I've seen it use as much as 85% of memory, which leaves about 40-45Mb free), and TF3D looks like it's half finished.
I've already flashed back to WM6.1. Maybe I'll try again if HTC releases an updated WM6.5, but until then I intend to enjoy my device with the original ROM.
Same here, tho I'll maybe try it again when verizon gets theirs together. After trialing many cooked 6.5's on my old tp I'm not a big fan. I think my tp2 as is, is a very outstanding device.
6.5 was on my TP2 for about 15 minutes. it seemed slower then the Orange shipped 6.1 ROM I've been happy with, but without any benefits. So im back on the Orange ROM.
May I ask how many of you have HardSPL'd to install an upgrade not meant for your device?
I only ask this because most others (including me) have noticed a marked improvement. Disregarding colours layout etc. as they are only personal preference.
I wonder if we are getting back to the old Kaiser/Tilt scenario where people forget the devices marketed for the US are HW different from the rest of the world due to US laws and US operators requirements and US having a different radio system to most others?

You make a very good point. In my case, the device in question is a standard, stock, UK unbranded TP2 from HTC, so I this scenario does not apply in my case, but I have tried it on a Vodafone UK handset which HAS been HardSPL'ed. Most people who are familiar with the Vodafone UK ROM know that it's plain ugly with one of the worst themes known to man
But yeah, it could indeed be the reason why some people are having problems.
I'm glad i'm not the only one who feels this way too though - thanks all for sharing your thoughts. I guess in my case, a lot of it is just down to personal preference - plus, without realising it, the phone already did everything I needed it to, and did it well enough for me - so I don't really know what I thought 6.5 was going to do that would change that.
Just my 2 cents.
Cheers all...
You could always turn off the TF3D and other Win 6.5 stuff and have a 6.1-ish homescreen in 6.5
But I love the new interface, it took me about 3 hours to get used to, and now I'd never go back
I'm a fan of 6.1 but it really sucks that all the new tf3d won't work on 6.1. I've come to terms with 6.5.1. I like that version of 6.5 but the regular interface to me just sucks!!
lol - Snap!
Im not overly fussed about TF versions and what not, the device is plainly slower on 6.5

I disagree, I have been using 6.5 on my Tytn II for ages and when I finally got my TP2 on Vodafone here in the UK I came home, HardSPL'd it and found a cooked 6.5 ROM that I liked (Thanks NRG) I have experienced no problems at all and it gets rid of the ugly Voda theme too.
I love 6.5 and couldn't stay on 6.1 for longer then I did.
Winmo 6.1 v 6.5 on touch pro2
Initially the upgrade was staccatto but a new hard reset fixed that. Wifi turns itself off now but gProfile still works so no worries there. MMS have gone back to early TP 1 mistake of flipping the image by 90degrees for MMS (annoying).
Battery life seems better and the web scrolls better with fingers (or is that me)
Couple of oddities -e.g. Text boxes dont wrap well on web pages. Also i have had to restart more often then 6.1. (tp2 6.1 is the most stable winmo ppc i have ever known)
I shall stick with it for now I think however.
In the end, I believe the phrase "To each his own.." is most appropriate. Some love WM 6.1, some love 6.5 and others absolute hate any official/stock ROM. That's the beauty of the HTC dev community, I think there is something for everyone!
Are they still using that horrible WIDCOMM bluetooth stack/driver on WM6.5 upgrade?
I totally agree with you.
I have downgraded to Orange's stock ROM.... That's the first time I find a stock ROM better than an official or cooked ROM.
It starts using 42% or less RAM
It works "correctly" (stilll has unexplained problems) with BB Connect.
It works fast (of course, there's 58% RAM left for software execution).... and with a few chnages, the GPS is effective.
What I miss from WM 6.5 is just the My Location option that doesn't exist in Orange's ROM.
I'll wait for their official 6.5 ROM and maybe will test it...

So you never really tried 6.1 on the TP2 and don't have a basis for comparison? (obviously 6.5 on the TP2 will work a lot better than on a TytnII, it's a case of apples and oranges).
Will try the upgrade when it comes out. Though I know from the screen shots I prefer the colour layout of TF3D2.1 to the colour icons of TF3D2.5

Power Functions in 6.1
I started a thread, posted in multiple threads, exchanged P.M.s, searched like it was my job and flashed multiple 6.1 variants. The one function, or lack thereof, that was the deciding factor for me was the power saving functionality in the media players response to pressing the power button to turn the screen off to save battery. It would stop the music playback!
My old Herald did this. The Fuze did this. Both on 6.1 Roms. Why the TP2 could not, with the smooth Tmobile stock Rom, I could not understand. I used so many different playes that all worked in the past. My current favorite is Nitrogen. But since I listen to music so much I couldn't have the sreen, even 'dim', for the hours I listen to music. My battery would be dead in no time.
This, ultimately, was the reason for me flashing and sticking with 6.5. If any one has found the magic registry edit or whatever for this fix, let me know.
Do you listen to your music with the speaker? Because my stock 6.1 US TMo TP2 continues to play via headphones just fine after pressing the power button. I'm no audiophile but I could not imagine listening to music on that speaker. Just thinking about it makes me shudder.
