backup program... where's Sprite these days ? - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

when I bought my first ever WinMo phone (T-Mobile Dash... WinMo 5.0) about every other post on XDA and Howard Forums contained a mention to "Sprite Backup".
I bought it and have used it for years - even on my Dash replacement (a HTC S630).
I was about to load it on my TP2 but stopped; mainly because I had just realized Sprite isn't being mentioned like before; almost absent from mention.
Is there some reason I shouldn't use Sprite on my TP2 ?

It actually has been mentioned and suggested and works without any real problems that I've seen. It actually comes free with HK and SEA models (you have to download it from the webpage using your serial number).

Some issues reported here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=541595&highlight=sprite+spb+resco+backup

I'm using sprite since day 1 of my TP2.
Used it many times to restore and never had any problem.
So you can use it safely.

thanks !
I knew the XDA crew would come through with some good info.

Sprite works brilliantly for me - I have been using it to backup before flashing a new ROM - then restore (level 2) and I have a fully working phone with (virtually) all my settings immediately. It makes flashing a breeze.
When I bought the latest version there was a special offer on the Sprite website for HTC users as well....

T-Mobile MDA III

I see all these posts of o2, Qtek etc updates to radio rom etc etc but never any mention of T-Mobile updates even ringing them to find out where updates are or maybe comes back with a blank.
Do any of you know where these are or maybe if any are ever developed
Many thanks
T-Mobile is trouble.. I also have the T-mobile MDA III and have flashed it with the normal qtek ROM. It's just taking to long. They say there will be an update (t-mobile germany has released one) But the rest not.
I think it will take at least a month if not more for an update.

I found that one with a Google, but as for leaving it in German for sad old me who only speaks english I don't think I'll be taking that chance searched the UK site high and low nothing why are we always the last to get anything ?
To be honest with you, T-Mobile are probably just sitting waiting for a stable rom to come out.
Despite the numerous releases by Q-tek, Imate et al, it would appear that you still have to run an abundance of patches on top of the rom to get to a semi-decent state.
O2 have only released one patch thus far, a bluetooth one which seems to solve some issues, but not all.
Problem is the numerous different suppliers. If it was one product and wasnt rebadged or branded or anything, then we could probably set up a pressure group to get something done about it.
I take it T-Mobile UK arent helping? If not, then email them weekly for updates, thats what I intend on doing with O2.

CarlnAdele,
You say you backed up before applying the German ROM, does that mean you have a backup of the UK T-Mobile MDA III ROM? If so I would be greatly in your debt if you could provide a copy!
Kind Regards, waiting in hope, JDH

Yes I have a backup on my PC, basically I used the Backup ROM to SD Card method detialed here http://en.pdamobiz.com/en/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=151&PN=1
Which means when you copy it back to your pc using http://www.tamiminet.com/othman/ntrw.exe its the size of your memory card which in my case is 1Gb I could write this to DVD and post it to you.
Or if anyone knows how I can convert this to the .nb1 or what ever I'd be happy to do that and upload it.
Fantastic!
If you don't mind, could you compress the file with WinRAR or similar to see how big is it? if it's a reasonable size < 200mb I would be more than happy to provide a download site or perhaps it could be put onto the FTP for this forum? (although I'm not sure how that would be done)
Cheers, JDH

I'll have a go tonight but its unlikely to compress that far, I'd do it now but I cant get to the drive its on at home from work where I am now.
So we still wait on an appropriate Tmobile UK MDAIII ROM
In spite of the now famous BA_WWE_BelDT_12200_557_10602_SHIP.exe ROM file using the BaUpgradeUt.exe bat file upgrader software in conjunction with the GetDeviceData.exe modification software to input the proper switches for T-mobile UK MDAIII devices, we are better off waiting for more stable hacks or even official releases in order to solve the BT and other problems? And I just now was getting to a point where I thought the fixes were at hand. Oh well, any advice garnered through experience would prove valuable as gold here. Cheers, guys...
Willfarr,
I have applied most of the ROM updates as they have appeared on the forum and happily they seem to have helped; particularly with the low level mic issue.
The only reason I'm after the original ROM is that reading elsewhere on the board it seems that only the earlier batches of MDA IIIs (such as mine) have the yellow hue screen issue. As such, I got in touch with T-mobile and they have agreed to replace it under warranty, I just don't want to send it back with a hacked ROM in case they notice and refuse to replace it!
If you're having any software issues such as the mic problem it's probably worth trying the updates, just make a backup first!

Just uploading the zipped file now
ftp://xda:[email protected]/BlueAngel/MDAIII/XDAIIs.zip
You also know you'll need a 1Gb SD Card don't you and this program I have also uploaded
ftp://xda:[email protected]/BlueAngel/MDAIII/ntrw.exe
And to write the uncompressed zip file back to the card you do the following:
Type ntrw write XDAIIs.nb1 E: (using a dos windows where "E:" is your drive letter for the SD Card

Tom Tom Navigator 3 for UK only £6.50

Someone has Tom Tom 3 disks for sale for £6.50. Ive bought one and they work just fine.
s1nn0n.
hi
are they origanal ??? or copys ???
who cares if its orig or not lol.
6.50 is abt all its worth anyways.
Check the user's feedback, very unlikely to be originals...
considering u can only use your key twice it highly unlikley they are originals but hey there are ways
And whilst it's one argument using pirated software it's another one entirely to pay someone for it!
I wouldn't bother. I wasted my money on one and basically couldn't get the keygen to work. Just kept saying not valid. But then what do you expect buying copied software off a Welshman via ebay. I am going to wait until version 5 comes out and buy the original. In the meantime I will carry on using the version I D/L'd from Limewire for nothing which works really well.
Make sure you put the device code into the keygen in CAPITALS - else it won't work. I've had no complaints with TomTom 3 (downloaded 3.01, activated using keygen + upgraded to 3.07 + patched it). Have it with all "safety" cameras in the UK, and full postcode search. now when I'm lost, I can give my exact location to the poor bugger I call 4 directions!

One handedness!

Forgive me if this has been discussed before!
I am seriously considering getting the Xda Orbit, but am slightly hesitant because of the lack of keyboard. My pda background is Palm, my current model being the treo 650. I have never owned a PPC/WM5 device!
I have a dislike for using the stylus to 'poke' the screen for input and have often shied away from apps that require stylus input. Clearly I am going to have to overcome this 'illness' if I get the Orbit
I know its early days, but can anyone tell me to what extent can I expect to avoid stylus use with the Orbit? I am thinking in terms of when I have to send sms text and the odd email plus quite a lot of appointment entering usage. I guess this boils down to how much 'One handedness' there is in WM5.
TIA
Hey I am exactly same as you. I hate poking with stylus as I am more used to using Nokia phones.
I love Spb software based Full Screen Keyboard this allows me to use my fingers to type.

There is Phonepad for you to use.
My XDA Orbit arrived 2 days ago, works like a charm, but..... i cannot find the "phone pad" option for inputting. The Prophet had it, but not the Orbit.
Does anybody know if this is just the Orbit? or does the HTC version have the phone pad missing as well?

I can tell you that after a couple of weeks of use, the battery is lasting one full day. You need to perform 3-4 full cycles charge and discherge to get full capacity but now is more than acceptable.
I'm using it for business and I do not loose any call.
The UMTS 3G data is perfectly working as well as all the others features it promises.
Fully recommended froma myself... but I'm not an expert.

So I got a ZP200 and updated the firmware to the latest 20120508 one. Now pressing search button in home screen doesn't bring up Google Search any more. It vibrates a bit but nothing else. Long press still brings up Voice Search, though.
The new firmware enables the full 1GB of RAM. It's pretty nice to be able to switch between many apps.

It's from Zopo's site: http://www.zopomobile.com/xiazai.php
No, it's not ICS. Still 2.3.6.
So I figured out why the search button stopped working after the update. The new firmware is missing GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk in /system/app.
I installed Google Search from Play Store. Then made a copy of com.google...googlequicksearchbox-1.apk (can't remember the full name) in /data/app. Uninstalled Google Search in Play Store. Moved the copy to /system/app. Renamed it to GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk. Changed permissions to rw-r--r--. And I now have a functioning search button!
Of course you need to root it first. All the file operations (copy, move, etc...) were done with AntTek Explorer (File Manager) but I think any root file manager will do.

Hi stephen,
After being messed about ordering the dami y5 i have took plunge and paid for the zopo 200 as only brought the gphone merely for iphone lookalike, but now i wanted a bigger screen and more reliable phone.
Anything i need to know as regards does it come rooted? if not will superoneclick do the job?
I know only some things from having the gphone f27 but the zopo will be a newbie to me.
Looking forward to this thread and mostly my phone.
I noticed you mention something as regards get the full 1gb unlocked, why is it not already functional?
have you been able to get a protective case for yours?
Also what phone is the zopo 200 version a copy of as i see the 100 is copy of the htc evo.
I will be playing and trying things out when i get it and anything i can help with i surely will
Best wishes

It doesn't come rooted but rooting it is real easy: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26268246&postcount=3
The phone was shipped with a kernel that limits the memory access to 512MB. The new shipment in China is now with the new kernel. I don't know what you will get. If the build number is ZP200_120508 or later than you have the latest.
Personally I HATE protective case. No phone is thin enough and I don't need to make it worse.
I don't know what it's copied from. Don't think it (or ZP100) had a specific target for that. They both look really generic.
Wow them cases have got to you, you want to talk about it?
I was thinking about the thin rubber type just for the back only to protect from scratches, tyre type design one like for the ipod, iphone as i got my 2 boys one for their ipods and and gphone, nice and slim and perfect for the job.
Think one's your HATING are the ott chunky one's, which i agree are pointless.
Thank you for link, i have read full thread already and saved everything and will follow carefully, read twice then act.
Really looking forward to it's arrival.
Did you get 2 batteries with your's or had to go and buy another spare as from what i read, only downside to this phone is battery life.
Best wishes

The battery life is the number 1 issue with this otherwise great phone of value. It was originally designed with an optional add-on battery in the form of a back cover. Unfortunately, the add-on battery caused so many problem (flickering screen, for example) they canceled it after the first batch.
Zopo is working on a new higher capacity (2000mAh) replacement battery with a thicker back cover. It's scheduled to become available by the end of June. It will increase the thickness of the phone from 12.5mm to 14.5mm. http://bbs.zopomobile.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=13248&extra=page=1
I don't know if it will become the standard battery but my guess is it will. We will have to find a way to get the replacement parts from China somehow. And it's obviously having an impact on the case design. Zopo had some cases for the existing one, but they will have to redesign them along with the new battery.
The phone surface is tacky enough for me. So no case needed for me.
---------- Post added at 08:26 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:24 AM ----------
And BTW. Hero H6000 is identical to ZP200. The official firmware update files from Zopo even have the name H6000 in it.
Some good reading there stephen.
Interesting on battery information, i wonder if i maybe get the newer one? doubt it as they need to sell the current stock.
I used translator to give me an idea on what they are upto.
Have you got gps working?

Yes. That's the same one I have installed since the first of the month.
The latest news from Zopo forums is 4.0 is almost done but they are stuck on bringing in 3D functionality. I was guessing that's the holdup since no other MT6575 phone is 3D capable. I wish they will just release a version without 3D first since not many people depend on that anyways.
On other MediaTek related news: It seems the new dual-core MT6577 phones are near their release. There's really high anticipation over there in China for this low cost performance platform. No clue if Zopo is working on one but the first couples of them will be by Huawei and Lenovo.
If anyone is looking to buy a MT6575 phone and can wait a bit, I'd advice to wait for the MT6577 phones. In addition to the obvious performance advantage, they will come with Android 4.0 installed. No update or wait needed.

How many of you still use Blue Angel

Hello
I am curious how many users here at xda still use (I mean use, not just have) a HTC Blue Angel.
For me it is a great device for daily usage, much better than the new Android phones, which looks all the same (only screen).

Flash WM5 or higher and you don't need a internal battery
I use it with my work sim
I use mine as organizer, multimedia player and gaming console (sometimes), and it's my only actual phone working. It's really tough and almost 8 years old...
I use mine occasionally for surfing at home or if i need internet access when i've got a stall at a fair.
It looks like the device is still alive, huh?
my BA is still running, i installed many apps that very useful to my activities....love it :good:
I use it as my only phone every day... that explains why I can't wait for d-two to release new Android builds that are more adequate for daily use

Hello
I am curious how many users here at xda still use (I mean use, not just have) a HTC Blue Angel.
For me it is a great device for daily usage, much better than the new Android phones, which looks all the same (only screen).

I use it on regular base as backup phone, in case my sony XP z fails . Until today everything was fine, but now the backup battery has seased . I ordered a new V18HR Battery to replace. Hope this will work out for the next 10 years...

Still use it 2 fully working and 2 ordered to refurbishing
I still using my BA. August 2016.
